Welcome back to Chapter and
Verse Junior with Dewey and Jill.

This is a fun place for kids
to learn about God, the Bible,

and how much Jesus loves you.

So buckle up for today's story
because this is one adventure

you are not gonna wanna miss.

Let's go

Hi, everybody.

Hi.

We're back today.

It's Jill and Dewey.

Jill and Dewey.

Oh, that does work.

We can- It does … we can sound
the same kind of- Yep … theme

song as me and Kerrye.

Yes, we can.

Mm-hmm.

All right.

Well, today we're gonna
talk about another parable.

We're continuing our little excursion
into the world of parables with Jesus.

I love these.

You do?

I'm learning so much, Ms.

Jill.

I'm so glad.

Honestly, I'm learning things,
too, when we're, you know,

looking at all of this stuff.

I learn, I learn different little
things along the way all the time.

What's the one about today?

The one about-- The one about today.

The one that we're gonna talk about
today is, um, where Jesus talks about

faith like a grain of mustard seed.

What about a ketchup seed?

I don't think a ketchup seed exists
'cause ketchup is a combination

of various ingredients, whereas
mustard is ground-up mustard seed.

What about a sesame seed?

So interestingly enough, mustard
seeds and sesame seeds are

similar in size, but not shape.

Do you like, do you like, uh,
sesame seeds on your hamburger bun?

I don't mind them.

Like, I think I prefer an onion
bun, but- I never had an onion bun.

You should try it out.

They're delicious.

All right.

What's the, what's the Bible, uh-
So- … page we're looking on?

We're gonna be in the Easy English version
again- Good … 'cause Smarty's not here.

So we're gonna go back to Easy English.

All right, good.

And we're gonna go to Mark
chapter 4, verse number 30.

All right.

I, you know, I don't
think we've been in Mark.

I don't think so either.

All right.

But all of the gospels are, are
relatively similar, and they all-- all

of the gospels talk about this story.

Um- Is it talk-- Oh, it's talked
about in the rest of them.

I think so.

It might not be in John.

All right.

But I know it's in Matthew and
in Luke, and obviously in Mark.

So Mark chapter 4, verse 30.

It says, "Jesus said, 'I will tell you
another story about the Kingdom of God.

This story shows what the
Kingdom of God is like.

It is like this.

A man takes a seed of the
plant called mustard.'"

Do you like mustard?

I do like mustard very much.

I like it.

I like all the different kinds of mustard.

I don't know about the diff-
Well, there's like the yellow and

Dijon and- I just like the yellow.

On my hot dog, and I
like it with a hamburger.

Mm-hmm.

And I like it on a sandwich.

Yeah.

Sometimes I just like
to put it on a cracker.

I don't know that I've eaten-
With a pickle … mustard

and pickle on a cracker.

It's good.

I'll have to try it out.

It's good.

I like spicy pickles.

One time my friend got a
mustard packet shot in his eye.

In his eye?

At school, well, you know how they give
those little packets sometimes- Uh-huh

… when you're eating in the cafeteria.

Yeah.

Was Ms.

Kerrye around?

No.

Oh, 'cause, you know, sometimes Ms.

Kerrye likes to explode those packets of
condiments and see how far they all- What?

… explode.

Yeah.

What do you-- How?

How she explode it?

Don't kill me, Kerrye.

But she sometimes will put them underneath
her car tire when she backs out of-

I don't think she really does that.

I don't think she does
that I have witnessed.

And it's great.

It makes the- What does she like it for?

She, she rolls down the window so that
she can hear the sound of the explosion.

Probably- And it makes like
a … probably now we're teaching the

kids to do something they shouldn't do.

Well, I mean, as long as- Unless
they go pick up the litter

as long as you pick up the litter,
as long as there's not cars around

you so that it doesn't get on anybody
else's stuff, it's not that bad.

Has it ever gotten on
somebody's car when she did it?

Not when I've been present.

Hmm.

Yeah.

Well, I'd ask her about it.

So she's been responsible about it.

Anyway.

All right.

Let's, let's keep talking
about the, the mustard seed.

So wait.

Yeah.

I was gonna ask something.

What?

Oh, I was gonna tell you a story.

Can I tell a story about
the mustard packet?

Sure.

It's faith as big as a mustard packet.

Faith as small- But it, no, it was- … as
a mustard seed … it was a sad story.

So, like, my friends were
sitting there and goofing off.

Are you gonna bring the vibe down?

No.

Okay.

It's sad because…

Well, it's not, it's funny to me,
but I guess it was sad to the person.

Okay.

So he was, this friend of mine was
messing with the mustard packet, and

he bent it over, and he was, like,
pretending like he's gonna squish it out.

It wasn't open.

Okay.

And he squished it, it exploded, and
went straight into my other friend's eye.

That's scary.

And it burned him.

I bet, yeah.

And they had to take him to the doctor.

To the nurse?

Well, they- Or the doctor?

… took him to the nurse, and then they
had to take him out of school, and

they would have his eye looked at.

Oh, man.

He's fine.

He's fine.

But I mean, I laughed really hard, and
then I felt bad 'cause he started crying.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Usually we, that's the first thing
our bodies do, is cry when we

get stuff stuck in our eyeball.

Yeah.

I guess mustard- It's just the body's
way to flush it out … has a hot

feel if you put it in your eye.

Well, it, I think mustard can be acidic.

So yeah, I think- What does acidic mean?

Means it is consisting of acid.

Oh.

Well, it sure tastes good.

It does taste good.

But your, I can't taste, so.

Nope.

Anyway.

Anyway.

I thought that was funny.

Yeah.

But he's okay.

I'm glad he's okay.

It's funny because he's okay.

If he wasn't okay, it wouldn't be funny.

That's true.

It'd be very sad.

If he'd lost his eye.

Yeah.

He's fine.

You did kind of kill, kill
the vibe a little bit.

Oh, sorry.

Let's pep it back up and talk about Jesus.

Pep it back up.

Here we go.

All right, so it says, um, "A man takes
a seed of the plant called mustard.

He plants it in the soil."

How big is it?

It's smaller than any other seed
that people plant in the soil.

Is that what the Bible says?

That is what the Bible says.

Oh, I asked it right on time.

You did ask it right on time.

It's almost as if you- how big is it?

It is one to two millimeters.

What are you talking British for?

Oh my goodness.

Millimeter.

Uh- I don't even understand this.

Listen- Why do we even use those?

Because the smallest- Millimeter … the
smallest American increment is an inch,

and it is- Nuh-uh … it's way- 'Cause you
could say an eighth of an inch It's still-

Jill … of an inch Let's talk American
This isn't even, this isn't even as big

as a 16th of an inch or a 32nd of an inch.

More, more importantly,
let's talk Southern.

It's like a quarter of an inch.

It- nope.

It's like the size of a pinhead.

A pinhead?

Yes.

Like a sewing pin?

The head of a sewing pin, yes.

Oh, that's tiny.

Mm-hmm.

How does he even see that?

Does he just put a bunch?

Or did you do one at a time?

You do one at a time maybe, I don't know.

But one seed, um, it, it's tiny, tiny,
but it grows really fast to like six feet.

Okay, so here's another
problem, Miss Jill.

You talk about millimeter.

Uh-huh.

And then you start…

That's British, and then you start
talking American when you say six feet.

Yes.

So why don't you just continue with
the British if you're-- pick one.

Well, I am- Pick one
version … I am American, so

my default is going to be feet.

Well, I like the feet.

Well- I can picture the feet.

Okay.

I can't picture the millimeters, and
what comes even after millimeters?

I don't even know.

After millimeters would be
centimeters, and then meters,

and then- Nobody likes that

kilometers.

I'm gonna say- Kilometers.

I don't know, kilometers … why
don't we just say yard?

How many yards?

Is yards British?

Yards is not British.

All right.

I didn't think so.

Um, so roughly- So how many front yards?

How many front yards?

No.

That's what I'm thinking, a front yard.

No, not a front yard.

A yard is approximately three feet, so
it would sprout up to about two yards.

All right.

I can understand that now.

That's tall.

But I don't think, I don't think
yards is typically used for height.

Yards is used for distance, which
is why it would be feet high.

I can't even follow this.

Well, you started it.

I know.

I started down something I can't finish.

Yep.

But anyway, it's tiny like a pinhead.

Tiny like a pinhead.

And grows up to be an adult man.

Yes.

That's what I'm picturing now.

Very quickly.

How quick?

I don't even know.

It just said very quickly.

Okay.

Yeah.

Here we go.

It says, "He plants it in the soil.

It's smaller than any other seed
that people plant in the soil.

But when it starts to grow, it
becomes bigger than the largest bush.

It will have big branches.

Then the birds will come,
and they will live there.

They will build their nests in the shade-
They like mustard … of the branches."

What if it smells like mustard?

I don't know.

I know that it has yellow flowers.

Oh.

Yeah, that's why mustard's yellow.

Must be.

It's got the yellow tint.

Can't believe you didn't say,
"Mustard," not in a must be.

That was funny too.

You missed it.

Here we go.

Um, it says, "Jesus taught
God's message to the people.

He used many stories like these.

He told the people as much as they
could understand, and he always

used stories to teach the people.

Then he explained everything to his own
disciples when he was alone with them."

'Cause he knew they
needed more explanation.

Yeah.

He knew that the, the disciples could
handle stuff without the stories, but the,

the other people, the people who were not
hanging around him all the time, needed

the stories to kind of break it down.

That's what I need too.

Listen.

So- There's nothing wrong
with needing the stories.

Well, I don't understand how this
has anything to do with faith.

Well, it's Jesus' way of saying that
if you don't need a colossal amount of

faith, you, you can have just the tiniest
bit and he can still work with that.

'Cause it'll grow six feet.

Yep.

In a quick time.

This little tiny, tiny thing
can balloon into something huge.

So I could just have to
believe a little bit.

Mm-hmm, and you can do anything.

A teeny-tiny little bit and-
And God can do it … and God

will take it and make it grow.

Yep.

I like that.

I do too.

I like it.

It lets, it lets me know that we don't
have to do anything ourselves, you

know, that really it's all on God.

So what can we pray for?

Take a little bit of faith.

I do have somebody that
doesn't believe in God.

So I can pray and just
have a little bit of faith.

Yeah.

And then they'll grow six
feet tall and believe in God.

That's why I'm gonna pray.

Well, I don't know if
they'll grow six feet tall.

I don't.

But believe in God, yeah.

It would take a miracle
'cause this person's a puppet.

Oh, goodness.

But I just don't care if he grows.

I just want him to be saved.

And it's not Smarty.

Yeah.

I know that y'all are all thinking that.

Well, we know Smarty is saved.

But it's somebody, it's
somebody else that's not saved.

We should probably not mention their name.

Probably not.

Yeah.

Um- And then, you know, once they
get saved, we can have them come on.

No, all we gotta do is mention his name.

Once, once they get saved, we
can have them come on and tell

their story of how they got saved.

That's taking a…

That's, that's even
more faith than I have.

They're gonna be on a
podcast talking about Jesus.

See?

It's already growing, Jill.

It's already growing.

All right.

All right.

I like it.

I'm hungry again.

You're hungry again?

Do you have- It's been, it's been a
couple weeks since you took me out.

I feel like you're always hungry, though.

I don't know.

I, I can relate.

Something about this microphone
in front of my face that

looks like a ice cream cone.

Yeah.

You just wanna take a bite?

I do.

Well, don't, 'cause it's expensive
and I don't wanna have to pay for it.

My stomach is about to growl.

Okay.

Well, let's see.

Where would you like to go eat today?

It's my treat.

Um

I think I, you know, I've never been here.

Where?

It's a place that has chicken, I heard.

The Lord's Chicken?

You've never been to Chick-fil-A?

No, I've been there, but- Okay.

Um- But it's a competition with them.

Competition with them?

Yeah.

So not Slim's 'cause they're not
in competition with Chick-fil-A.

No.

No offense if you like
Slim's, but I don't.

I'm not a fan.

Okay.

That's- That's 'cause you
know what good chicken is.

Yeah, but I wanna try this chicken, and
sometimes they've had, like, a little

back and forth on commercials about it.

Are you talking about Popeyes?

Yes.

I've never been to Popeyes.

We can try Popeyes.

What do they have besides chicken?

I like the sides.

Uh, biscuits?

Oh, I love biscuits.

I do too.

And then I think they have
beans, but I don't like beans,

so I don't pay attention.

I don't like beans.

But I feel like they, they might
have-- Their, like, their whole thing

is that they're, like, Louisiana,
so I feel like it would be, like,

red beans and rice kind of thing.

I don't like red beans.

Maybe.

I don't- You know, there's
a puddle- I don't like

beans … of liquid worth beans.

Beans, beans the

magical fruit.

Maybe we should wait and not say that.

All right.

All right.

Sorry, parents.

All right.

Well, I like this parable, and
I can't wait till the next one.

Yeah.

It's good.

Yeah.

I like the mustard.

Now, can you put mustard on chicken?

You can put mustard on
anything you want to.

It might not taste good,
but you can put it on there.

I'm gonna try it.

Honey mustard.

Honey mustard is where to
go with chicken, I think.

If you have faith like a grain
of honey mustard seed it's

gonna grow into the kilometers.

Maybe, maybe if you have faith like a
grain of mustard, but it's sweet faith,

you can call it honey mustard faith.

That's our new phrase.

It's our new phrase.

Can we name that?

Honey mustard faith.

This is the honey mustard episode.

Maybe so.

That was brilliant.

Occasionally they happen.

Occasionally I have these
moments of brilliance, but…

I feel like that's a British word too.

Brilliance?

Yeah.

That's brilliant.

Am I just supposed to
say smarty pants moments?

I don't know.

I don't wanna be, I don't wanna be
like I'm taking over Smarties thing.

No.

Brilliant.

Since we're doing the
British theme today too.

We always end up with the British theme.

Yeah.

Anyway.

All right, Ms.

Jill, I loved it.

I'm so glad.

And it- This is an easy
one to remember too.

Yeah.

Yeah.

'Cause everybody likes mustard.

Well, not everybody, but most
people should like mustard.

At least-- Listen, even if you don't
like to eat mustard, you should

have faith like a mustard seed.

That's true.

Did you know that there was a, a
popular time, they probably still

do this, but I haven't seen it in a
minute, where they would actually make

jewelry where they have mustard seeds
in, like, little magnifying glasses.

What?

I want it.

And people would wear it as,
like, necklaces and stuff to

remind themselves to have faith.

Will you get me one?

I'll see if I can get one.

Buy a bit.

Yep.

All right.

Thanks, Ms.

Jill.

All right.

Thanks, Dewey.

I had fun.

Me too.

All right.

Bye.

Bye.
