What's going on, Peed Monsters? It is September 20, 2024, and I am in the studio with
Speaker 2:Naomi Salorsano. And Lainie Pettit.
Speaker 1:And I am Jonathan Jackson.
Speaker 3:Yeah. Surprise. You got 3 hosts.
Speaker 2:3 of us. Three times the trouble. Three times
Speaker 3:the chaos. You guys are gonna have fun with our news, sports, and everything we're gonna talk about this episode.
Speaker 1:And today, we will be talking about
Speaker 3:So first up on news, let's talk about the speed bump in front of the commons, which is now no longer there, guys. She vanished overnight. She vanished overnight. And so reasonings on why the, speed speed bump was taken out was because of flooding issues. So we do live in a place where it rains a lot, so a lot of water was accumulating, which caused flooding, which would cause a lot of problems.
Speaker 3:So but one thing I wanted to talk about is a lot of I thought that they took it out because so many people just drove around it. Did you guys ever do that? That's so real.
Speaker 2:I did it probably every single time I ever came across the speed bump without any cars next to it on either side. Don't tell chief I just said that.
Speaker 1:Yeah. I did that too. And it's not like I was even speeding. It's just going over the bump. It's like, I don't wanna experience that.
Speaker 1:I just wanna, like, drive through there.
Speaker 2:No. That's so real.
Speaker 1:Go about my business.
Speaker 2:So real. I mean, nobody wants to go over speed bump if you don't have to. That's true.
Speaker 3:So did you guys think that that speed bump there was unnecessary?
Speaker 2:Oh, no. I think it's so necessary, honestly.
Speaker 1:Yeah. Because there is a lot of foot traffic in front of the commons. So to have that bump there to just act as a little guide, you know Yeah.
Speaker 2:I think
Speaker 1:keep it slow.
Speaker 2:Sorry. I talked over you. I agree though. I agree though. I think, there's so many people walking around the commons all the time, like, because I mean there's 2 there's 2 residential living areas right there, and then you have to cross that road to get to the commons.
Speaker 2:Everybody's in the commons all the time, and nobody ever goes to the crosswalk. That's just something that people do not do. So I think the speed bump might have, might have been a great might have been a good idea, but it's not there anymore.
Speaker 3:So Yeah. We'll see what happens with, like, foot traffic and everything, how they're gonna manage on trying to lessen, you know, possible hits or anything like that. Because I know that that that area, at least that road area, there were there would be a lot of, like, hits or, people hitting their cars and stuff like that. So let's hope let's hope that gets a little bit more better.
Speaker 2:You know, let's let's we're gonna hope for the best in that situation. But for now, there isn't a speed bump, so let's see what's going on. Speaking of what's going on, there's a lot of things going on on Yik Yak as always. How do we feel about it, folks?
Speaker 3:Yik you know, me and Yik Yak have a love and hate relationship. Mhmm. Because I love the the funny comments. I love the jokes. I love whenever like, that meme with the the professor that's leaning on the elevator.
Speaker 2:Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3:That one's hilarious. But then there's always those comments that are unnecessary, don't need to be there. Like, guys, let's let's be adults now, please, when you're not in high school anymore. So
Speaker 1:All you can really do is just report it and move on. I mean, we can try to make a big deal out of it, but, really, it's just gonna bring negative attention to something that shouldn't have attention on it.
Speaker 2:That's real. There are so many things always happening on Yik Yak. I personally don't have Yik Yak because I like to protect my own peace. But I know this past week, there was something on there about somebody wanting to blow up the conservatory, which I thought was crazy. Or not wanting to, but saying that people should just blow up the conservatory because there's nothing happening there, which I'm, like, I'm not actually a music major or anything.
Speaker 2:Obviously, I'm a mass comm major, but I'm in the ensembles at in the conservatory, and I just know that, like, that was a really shocking thing for a lot of the people in the ensembles to hear.
Speaker 3:Yeah. Say that to all the, like, music, people, like, all the musicians there, all the people that are studying actually music. Tell them that. Let's see what happens there.
Speaker 2:Yeah. That's like being like, let's just get rid of Daniel. Like, who needs Daniel Hall? Nobody. Nobody really uses it.
Speaker 2:I personally don't have any classes there, so I know that nobody uses it. So we should just get rid of it.
Speaker 3:That's me with Stuart. What's what's the point for Stuart? Nobody knows. Kapoom.
Speaker 2:Yeah. If only, you know, it would it would make sense if, you know, the conservatory maybe had, like, ensembles who rehearse in there or, like, there were classes in there. Sorry. I'm being sarcastic. There are
Speaker 3:there are stuff going on, guys.
Speaker 2:There's a lot of things going on in the conservatory. We should check it out.
Speaker 3:Yeah. Go check it out. The the ensembles that they have, singers, chorale, anything that happens in those events at the conservatory, you know, they're actually kinda, like, interesting to watch, especially if you have a keen eye for, you know, the music, the classics. I I would say definitely go. You know, the classics.
Speaker 3:Jonathan is nodding his head. He's like, yeah. I love it.
Speaker 2:I feel like that's kind of the issue with Yik Yak though is that there are just so many really crazy wide statements made that are somewhat, like, harmful truly to a lot of different people. There's a lot of bullying that goes on there.
Speaker 3:Yeah. And for people that might feel, you know, any sort of, like, trigger warnings or if they feel like something that they saw, you know, really affects them, we do have counseling services here. We have walk ins. You can always schedule, to talk with our, like, counselors here. They're professionals.
Speaker 3:They're open to talk to you, so we do have the resources in case, you know, whatever's going on on Yik Yak, you need a break from it. Also, be like Lainie. Not have Yik Yak. Sometimes that's what you need. It's just you don't need Yik Yak.
Speaker 3:It's not a necessity. So you can always reach out for resources and as well just not download it.
Speaker 2:From my experience, even if you don't have Yik Yak, you'll hear all about what's happening on Yik Yak anyway. So
Speaker 3:Exactly. So it's not really like you need it. You got the whole community of Piedmont that's talking about it. Definitely.
Speaker 1:Yeah. We'll talk about it on the podcast. So, yeah, talking about stuff around campus. I'm still in my 1st year, so I'm like learning where everything's at. And I've noticed I saw on one of the posters or was like a little flyer or something talking about a voting event coming up on September 25th.
Speaker 1:I think it said at 12 p. M. And it's gonna be a lunch and learn kind of thing where I don't really know what that is. I mean, I can guess by the name that I might be learning while I'm having lunch.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Basically.
Speaker 1:And I've never voted as well. Like, it's my 1st year of college. I've never voted. So I'm gonna go and, I guess, figure out how to cast my vote and have an opinion on things and shape the country.
Speaker 3:Definitely. Sure. And you gotta do it not in an empty stomach, guys. So you gotta get your lunch. Yeah.
Speaker 3:It'll be in the glassed room in the cafe. So it is a accessible place for you to bring your lunch and talk about all the, elections, questions and stuff like that. I know doctor Tony Fry will be the the guest speaker there. So if people I know we we got, like, people like Jonathan. It might be their first time voting.
Speaker 3:It's definitely an event that we recommend to go to if you have no knowledge about how to vote or how elections work or anything just so you can become educated and really feel confident whenever you vote with for whoever you vote for.
Speaker 2:Yeah. That's kinda the thing, though. It's kinda just for this election, especially, it's just important that as a voter, you're educated and know what you need to do in order to accomplish everything you need to accomplish in order to get your vote counted.
Speaker 3:Exactly. Your vote matters. Leo the lion wants you to vote. He told me that Yeah. Personally.
Speaker 1:Leo's so cool.
Speaker 2:Leo's big on exercising your rights to vote.
Speaker 3:We love exercising. And talking about exercising, let's let's talk about sports, guys. Volleyball has a new intermined, coach, Jeff Black. And so this is actually his first time here on campus. He actually they actually had their first game, and it was their first home game.
Speaker 3:Sadly, they did loss against Bob Jones 3 to 0, but, I mean, I don't know if any of you guys went, but our lead players that day I mean, number 24, Natalie Adams Moles. If if I butcher your name, I'm so sorry. But, I mean, she was killing it. Every ball that was coming at her, she was trying her best to save it, hit it. Jessica Sconyers with 8 kills, which number 22.
Speaker 3:Number 2, Katie Hubbard, 9 kills, 1 block. She was doing great. I mean, all all the Lady Lions were doing great. They were just the, leading players that were mentioned for that game. I mean, they really do need in my opinion, they do need to get their Morales back up, though, because I've seen a pattern in within their games.
Speaker 3:They do, like, a decent well for the first time, like, first match, but then as they keep going, they just keep going down and down, and it's just like a common pattern. So hopefully this new coach, Jeff Black, can kinda see that and see how he can work with these girls, and hopefully start winning some games, because I know I know we want our girls to win. So I'm really hoping that this could this season can have a good turnaround. So let's go, Lady Lions.
Speaker 2:Yeah. In other sports news, women's tennis has been at it all day today, actually, against Pfeiffer, all this morning and into this evening too. We're, up 61, so go Lady Lions for tennis. And speaking of Pfeiffer, the Lions are hoping to keep their victories rolling, over Pfeiffer this weekend with men's soccer playing at 2 PM at our very own Walker Athletic Complex against Pfeiffer themselves, hoping to keep the victories rolling for the lions.
Speaker 3:Yeah. They'll be playing, tomorrow at 2 PM. Tomorrow at 2 PM. So everyone show up, please, because they need support. It's their home game.
Speaker 3:And did you guys know that on the, like, website for the athletic, lions, they have, like, their own countdown? I thought that was so cute. It's like counting down as we speak right now. It's like, one day and da da da.
Speaker 2:I'm like, that's so cute. Until game time.
Speaker 3:Until game time.
Speaker 2:It's so cute. Come out and support the lions, everybody.
Speaker 3:Yes. Come out and support the lions.
Speaker 1:Let's go lions. You can. Exactly. Let's support the lions, y'all.
Speaker 3:Yeah. And so I think that's it for today's episode, guys. Right?
Speaker 1:Yeah. I believe so. Yeah. I've yeah. I believe so.
Speaker 1:My name is Jonathan Jackson, and, I just wanna thank my 2 co hosts.
Speaker 2:Lanny Pettit and Naomi Salorasano.
Speaker 1:This was a fun podcast to shoot.
Speaker 2:Absolutely.
Speaker 1:Record, film, whatever. We're doing it all over here in the mass comm department at Swanson. So yeah.
Speaker 2:Tune in next week for who's who's hosting next week's what
Speaker 3:the month? It'll be Ben and Isaiah. So shout out to Ben and Isaiah. Check them out for next episode over here.
Speaker 1:I am so excited to hear what Ben has to say.
Speaker 2:I'm excited to hear what Isaiah
Speaker 3:has to say. I'm excited to hear from both Ben and Isaiah. There you go.
Speaker 1:Have a great
Speaker 2:day. See y'all later, lions. Peace out. Have a good weekend.
