You've seen something. Heard something. Felt something you can't put into words. Rae Nowack and Luke Adams want to hear it... live, every Thursday night on 91.1 FM WGEL, Brakensville Community College Radio.
Call in. Tell your story. You're not the only one.
(0:00:00) Welcome in, dear listeners. You are now listening to the Overnight Radio Hour on WGLE 91.1 FM. This is your hour to tell your spookiest and unexplainable stories from all around Brackensville. I'm one of your hosts, Ray. And I'm Luke. The line's hot, so sit back and take a listen because the truth is on the air.
(0:00:33) Devils and genies floating around. Nightmares. Witches and goblins walking on air. Nightmares. Hello, hello, and welcome back into the Overnight Radio Hour. I'm, of course, your host, Ray. And I'm your other host, Luke.
(0:00:51) And welcome back to the show where we tell the spookiest and unexplainable stories in all of Alabama. That's absolutely right. This show is not just about telling stories. It's about something much deeper than that.
(0:01:06) relinquishing information. It's about telling stories, storytelling, weaving a fine tapestry of emotions through a variety of resources and getting us somewhere that we've never been before. So anyone listening, I really hope you enjoy the show and we're going to get right into it. Yeah, what Luke said, definitely. Oh, it looks like we have a caller. Can you feed him in, Luke? Hello, caller. You're on the air.
(0:01:33) Hey Luke. Hi. Oh, it's my friends Garrett and Sam. How are you guys doing? Ew, why are you talking like that? Yeah, you sound like you have a job. What are you talking about? You sound like you're middleman as Willard. You sound like you got a real job. At like, a bank. Capital J job. But like an annoying bank. Like filing cabinet jobs. I hate you, bank. No, I'm still just a DJ.
(0:02:03) Ew, what do you mean just a DJ? Just a DJ? That's all I do. That's your day job. That's my night job. I don't work during the day. So you guys are down for a scary story? I mean, that's why you called in, right? Like you're gonna tell a real one this time? I'll tell a scary story. Luke's boring now. And he has a job! Guys, I...
(0:02:31) Why are you being like this? Friends, friends you know, always taking jabs and everything, even during the radio show. No, it's just me. Everything's going really good. Why are you playing friendship like my little pony? Yeah, why are you talking to us like we met you two days ago?
(0:02:51) Well, it's been longer than that. We're just chatting. We're being friendly on the radio. We have some spooky stories to tell later on in the show, and everything's going fine. What are you guys up to? We're on a walk. You know, a long walk. An eventful walk. Appreciating the greenery. Yeah. You know, Alabama has such beautiful fauna.
(0:03:21) Yeah, a lot of beautiful plants in Alabama. Well, it sounds like you guys are having a wonderful time. And you know what? Great on you. You deserve that time. I mean, it would be cooler if you were like normal right now. Do you know? What even is wonderful? Yeah, I actually want to hear it from you, man. What's so wonderful right now, man?
(0:03:50) It's the joy of living. It's about being around those you trust, and even those you don't. And from that, discovering something... I think Phonem turned into a Buddhist. What are you guys talking about? Dude, just leave your capital J job and come have fun! Luke, do you have, like, a girl in the studio? And you're like, hey...
(0:04:18) This is, like, my studio, and I'm, like, super professional. I listen to Masayoshi at that, too. You talk about Takanaka. You got to talk right.
(0:04:38) There's no girl. There's no girl. There's no girl. Yeah, he's like, hey, Toyin, this is okay, go swear to it. There's no girl. Oh. Oh. That makes it a little less fun. So you're just, like, doing it for nobody? Well, it's my radio show. He's the co-host. Oh, yeah, but, like...
(0:05:05) You know, I kind of expect a DJ to not have such a clear way of talking, you know? Yeah, I don't know. You just don't sound like normal right now. You're kind of ruining my trip, bro. Yeah. Well, define normal. What's normal to you? I don't know. How you were like two days ago. Like, not like this. I don't really know how to explain it.
(0:05:32) I don't know. You were like Luke, you know? You were talking to us like you've known us for our entire lives. Well, not me. I moved here not that long ago. Well, you moved here like three years ago, which is basically our entire life.
(0:05:49) Are you three years old? I'm glad y'all are having fun. Did y'all call to share a scary story or just to talk to Luke? Two other engines! That's four engines in total. Are you still on this? Let me tell you about I had a dream the other night where I was like I found out I was dreaming and then I told this person I was like um hey
(0:06:18) I know this is a dream, and you know what they said? They said, get out! And that's how it happened. That's really cool, man. Unfortunately, we've got to go to break. We have more callers and more stories coming in. Thank you guys for calling. I'm sorry that I might seem off.
(0:06:40) your vocabulary lesson. Okay, that's enough of them. Wow, what wonderful callers. The Overnight Radio Hour, you never know who's going to call in and who's going to make a difference in Brackensville these days. We're just having a wonderful time in the studio. Yeah, they're weird. Well, thank you all for listening. You're tuned in to WGLE, and we got more of the Overnight Radio Hour coming your way. Don't go anywhere.
(0:07:10) to walk around in public. If they can't speak English, just talk louder. There's a lot of different advice around when it comes to going abroad. In their country, all the food feels like chicken, except the chicken. If you pick up another man's dry cleaning, then you have to marry his daughter. When you meet somebody on the street, step on their foot.
(0:07:29) It's a greeting. But use your common sense and get to know about a place before you go. (0:09:12) And welcome back. You're listening to the Overnight Radio Hour here on WGLE 91.1 FM. Luke and Ray here, joined in the studio as always, and we are here on the Overnight Radio Hour to answer the questions, the kind that doesn't fall apart under a few that linger longer than they should. We're here having a wonderful time in the studio, and we have our wonderful Jack calling back. Hey, Jack, how's it going? Hi.
(0:09:41) Hey, Jack. Hey. Hey, thanks for having me again. Of course. The last time I was here, you know, I went back to the woods. Yeah. The last time I got from Sia...
(0:10:00) it was a trap by whoever took her. I handed over everything to the police, even the final text. They were able to find out what cell tower to see his phone was speaking off of, but fortunately the area encompassed most of the park. I organized a small search party to go around town and search, and we also posted it all over social media, but everything came up empty. Last Wednesday rolled around, no taxes.
(0:10:29) The lead, nothing. Word from the police, usual. And then Thursday, each hour that went by without hearing anything, I got a little less hopeful. Several times, I forced myself to look at those three photos she sent me to look for clues, but it made me feel sick. And then Friday happened. I started my day as usual. Checked in on the social media groups.
(0:10:57) looking to see if anyone found anything else. I made some coffee, and I was about to call the police to see if there was any updates, but then my phone rang. When I saw the caller ID, I couldn't believe it. It was Thea. I snatched my phone and immediately picked up. I said, Thea? And my heart was pounding, and all I got was silence. Thea, tell me, please. Just tell me. Where are you? Silence. More silence.
(0:11:28) If this is who took Thea, please, I'll do anything. Don't hurt her. I'll say ransom. I'll do whatever you want. Please don't hurt her. No one spoke. But I finally heard something. Faint, tackling sound, static maybe. The wind blowing through the speakers. I demanded that they say something. My heart pounded. My leg shook. I remember glancing around the kitchen.
(0:11:58) Mine was racing. I couldn't really trace the call. Like, do they need to be on the line? I didn't know if I needed to keep the call on for 60 seconds. I had no idea. I remember asking them if they wanted money. You know, I told them, we don't have much, but I'll wire it all to you right now. Just please, please give my fear back to me. And I started placing a wireless call to 911, and the crackling sound intensified.
(0:12:28) So before I could say anything else, the call dropped. So I immediately told the police and begged them to trace it, do something, but it gave me the same canned response I had for the past several days. So I got in my car, and I drove. I didn't even know where I was going, but then I found myself pulling into the parking lot, staring at the same dark trees and winding trails. I was debating whether I should actually go in when I saw it.
(0:12:59) flume of dark smoke rising above the treetops. I jumped out of my car and ran into the forest, all while the horrible cracking sounds played in my head. Thea. No. Thea, no. I climbed over rocks and sticks, following the acrid smell of smoke. Please, don't let it be Thea. The fire stood in small clearings. Orange flames were licking the air.
(0:13:23) Wow, Jack, that is absolutely fascinating. Brackensville, you guys are just full of mystery and things going on. And we on the show, we're on a journey together, trying to unlock the mystery of the supernatural and dive deeper into the nature of what it is to live here.
(0:13:51) We've been having just a phenomenal time here on the show. Did you hang up on him? The line is so busy. There's so many of you wanting to call, and we can only take a few number of calls. I appreciate everyone talking in and calling into the show. Greatly excited to have you. Thank you. We've already had so many wonderful callers already. Wow. This show. This medium radio. Yeah, Luke. Yeah.
(0:14:21) Just the transmission, the power, the energy. It's honestly kind of powerful. Yeah, Luke, it is. We've worked on this station for a while. Is it time for break? Is that why you hung up on him? Yes. It's time for us to go listen to some public service announcements here on WGLE, but don't turn that dial.
(0:14:49) We got more overnight radio hour spooky stories coming to you next. Don't turn that dial. Yeah. Did you ever listen to a tree? Here, listen to this and see if you can pick out which one is the tree. Could you hear it? Listen again. It's right there. Did you get it? Now listen to the same tree after a forest fire.
(0:15:18) When you destroy a forest, you kill more than trees. Please, be careful with fire. A public service of this station, the Smokey Bear Program, and the Ad Council. At one time or another,
(0:15:31) You've probably heard people say, I'm all for open housing. I just don't want it in our lovely, peaceful neighborhood. This is pretty much the same thing as saying, I'm for correcting social injustice, as long as it won't cost anything. Has it ever worked that way? The community of man, God's Club, be an active member. This message is brought to you by Religion in American Life in cooperation with this station.
(0:16:00) Have you ever turned your radio dial from one end to the other? Currently, it's 34 degrees. A phrase for President Nixon. That's what Sheridan does.
(0:16:15) You know what all those sounds are? Those are the sounds of competition. There are all kinds of different stations trying to get your attention, and that means you have freedom of choice. That's unusual. In most places in this world, if you'd turn that radio dial from top to bottom, you'd only pick up one station, and that would be owned and operated by the government.
(0:16:35) In America, there are nearly 7,000 radio stations, independently owned and independently operated. That means greater freedom of choice for you than any place in the world. We think it's important that you have freedom of choice, the freedom to turn that dial and hear many different voices. Let's keep radio free in America.
(0:17:04) And we're back. Listeners, you're listening to the Overnight Radio Hour. I'm one of your hosts, Ray. And I'm your other host, Luke. And I think we have one more time for a call. And it's perfect, because we have someone on the line right now. Hello, caller. Please introduce yourself. Hi. My name is Regis Goh, and I have a story. This happened to me in mid-August.
(0:17:28) For context, I live with my girlfriend in a two-story townhouse with a set of noisy stairs. Pretty nice. And on this afternoon, though, I had a really, really weird, bizarre experience I can't even explain. And it's been a while. That's what we're here for, is to hear all those stories. I was downstairs making a late breakfast for myself and my girlfriend. We slept in that day, late nights.
(0:17:54) but it was maybe a little bit past 1 p.m., and I had just finished cooking eggs and oatmeal. As I was shooting the food, I played the food, I saw the corner of my eye my girlfriend under the kitchen, and it was so strange. She stared and said nothing, and I asked her if she was hungry, and she nodded. We sat and ate, and I talked to her about how the call was making a funny noise and what a lazy day it was and other things, and
(0:18:21) She just seemed to stay quiet and listen and eat, and I just thought that was so weird. Normally it isn't like that. We usually have very good conversations. When we finished, we both walked into the kitchen and placed our dishes in the sink, and I went ahead of her and walked out the kitchen and living room between where the kitchen and the stairs that lead up are. I saw for a second feeling her eyes were on me from behind, and I had a bone-chilling moment.
(0:18:48) when I heard my girlfriend's voice call out from the top of the stairs asking about her breakfast. And I turned around, and no one was there, but I swear that I had just eaten breakfast with my girlfriend. The hairs on my neck and my neck stood, and I walked around the whole downstairs area a few times to affirm my eyes. And I went upstairs with...
(0:19:15) an obvious look of shock on my face, and I looked at my girlfriend suspiciously. She had genuinely asked where her food was, and I couldn't even explain what just happened to me. She swears that she hadn't been downstairs yet at all that day, and doesn't remember us talking about the car or anything. What was so freaky about it was we both knew how noisy our stairs were. The sounds of
(0:19:42) Our weight on the wood are very evident in our home, and I was standing between her or it and the stairs. I'm only 29 years old, so I don't believe I was having a senior moment, but it was truly terrifying. Seeing your own double is wonderful.
(0:20:00) thing, but seeing and hearing and feeding and conversing with something you think is someone you love is a completely different and sobering experience. That includes my story. I still cannot even explain how that happened. I was hoping you guys may have had some insight. That certainly is interesting, Regis. Yeah. That's a strange experience you seem to have had. I'm kind of coming around here now.
(0:20:30) Maybe. That still bothers me to this day. I mean, how tired were you, maybe? Maybe you're, I don't know, you just were seeing things because you were tired, maybe? Maybe, but I've never been one to hallucinate like that, if that's what you can call it. No history of sleep paralysis or anything like that. Was the food at least good?
(0:20:59) Yeah, it was pretty tasty, but it kind of makes it bland thinking that I was sharing it with something rather than someone. So you think this thing wasn't a human or your girlfriend? I have no explanation as to how it could have been my girlfriend. Does that make sense? My girlfriend was upstairs the entire time. I can swear up and down that I had breakfast with someone that resembled my partner.
(0:21:30) Does she have a twin, maybe, that you don't know about? I hope not. I couldn't explain how they disappeared behind me. Well, that's kind of really weird, and not... I'm sorry you had to go through that. So she looked exactly, or I guess I should say, it looked exactly like your girlfriend? Yeah, it was... Hair, eyes...
(0:21:58) I was completely convinced. And being convinced that you're looking at someone you love when it isn't that person you've come to know and love is almost embarrassing. You're supposed to know your partner so well, but you're presented with this false image of them, and you're sharing all these things that you normally do with your partner, and it's not them.
(0:22:25) and it's something completely different that you can't even understand, it sounds like a dream. It sounds like a waking dream, but I promise you that it's not, and I know it sounds crazy. I don't think you're crazy. I can't even put into words. I'm speechless after that event. It was so odd.
(0:22:52) I wish I had more advice for you, but thank you so much for calling in. I hope whatever that was doesn't come back. Thank you. I really appreciate it. Bye-bye, Regis. Thank you, Regis. Go for calling in. Yeah. That was certainly something. I mean, it kind of makes sense what I've been talking about. Like, it all kind of, I don't know, comes together. You've seen the kind of posters that the city council has put out.
(0:23:20) You're absolutely right. There does seem to be something going on, and we're trying to get to the bottom of this, right here, on the overnight radio hour. What? You're agreeing with me? All I'm saying is that we're starting to see that there's a lot of reports coming in, and we might have something here. We might have something unusual going around Brackensville. Are...
(0:23:50) Luke, are you messing with me right now? No. What would make you think that? Come on. I know in the past I might have had a suspicion or two, but things have changed. And with that change, you start to see that there's something going on. And I've grown a little bit. And I've started to see that maybe there's more to this than I was previously giving it credit. Oh, well, okay, I suppose, um...
(0:24:20) uh yeah it looks like we're running out of time i guess so we'll see you all in the next episode of the overnight radio hour i've been one of your hosts ray and i've been your other wonderful host luke wonderful
(0:24:42) That's all the time we have tonight at Brackensville. Thank you for tuning in, thank you for calling in, and thank you for being brave enough to tell it. I'm Luke. And I'm Ray. We'll be back next week on WGLE 91.1 FM.
