Speaker 1:

Hello everyone, today we are going to discuss on Galatians two sixteen and hereafter we will discuss on the subsequent verses and we will go each verse by verse into a study on Galatians. So let's dive into it. Galatians chapter two verse 16: We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles. Nevertheless, knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, since by the works of the law no flesh will be justified. This is Paul talking to Peter.

Speaker 1:

I am not going to get into all of that, but there are some very key theological terms here which I want to explain. So here Paul talks about justification. So what is justification? Justification is more of a courtroom language. It means just as if you have not sinned or you're not guilty anymore.

Speaker 1:

So Paul says that we are not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Christ Jesus. So let's go back to what were we guilty of. When we go back into the Garden of Eden, we know that Adam and Eve sinned and because of the sin of Adam and Eve, we were all born in sin. Every single person was born in sin. Then what happened?

Speaker 1:

Over the years, God made a covenant with Abraham and through which Israelites were formed and you saw that the Israelites were given the old covenant which were a bunch of rules and regulations and ceremonies and things that they had to do including the moral law and everything. Six thirteen laws which they had to keep. So it was a performance based system that if they kept the law they were safe. But if they didn't keep the law, they would have a bunch of curses that would come their way. On the other hand, we have Jesus Christ.

Speaker 1:

He came to this earth. He died for our sins. He rose and He's resurrected and He's in heaven right now. So Paul is saying that we have to believe and trust in Jesus Christ that means when we have faith in Christ Jesus we are justified and that means we're just as if we have not sinned. On the other hand, if you do the six, seven and thirteen laws, will you be justified?

Speaker 1:

No! And it says very clearly: by the works of the law no flesh will be justified and it's very clear if you're trying to keep the law you're not justified you're still in sin but if you have faith in Christ Jesus if you approach God saying that God, I have sinned and I cannot do this on my own. I trust you. You're righteous. That very moment, you're righteous by Christ Jesus.

Speaker 1:

You have the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
