The universe sessions. Now let's get into today's episode. Earlier this week, I heard a line on a podcast that said something along the lines of life is waiting for you. And immediately something in me went, yeah, that's true. But even more than that, I thought, life is waiting on you, Barb, to make the first move. And when I sat with that, I thought about how often we wait or I wait for the right timing, the right clarity for more confidence to feel ready.
00:01:58:00 - 00:02:31:09
Unknown
We wait for perfect conditions. But what if life and business aren't waiting for us to feel ready or polished? What if they're simply waiting for us to engage? A number of years ago now, I woke up one morning and checked my inbox and had this email from a very well known global brand for personal development. They do a number of online courses and in-person retreats and workshops and all sorts of things.
00:02:31:09 - 00:03:00:09
Unknown
And when I saw it, I was so excited. Somebody I know had recommended me, and they were reaching out to see if I would be interested in creating a course with them based on what I do. And of course, that was yes, yes, yes. So I reached out. We set up a time. We got on a zoom call, and as I was meeting with the producer, we were talking about what I could do and which parts of my content they would be most interested in and they thought would have the most value.
00:03:00:10 - 00:03:24:16
Unknown
So we had a really engaging a live conversation. And then we started to talk about dates, and she said to me, okay, I have a window. I have a spot in the next month if you want to take that. They were going to fly me to LA to do the filming and she said, or I have availability, we're going to be filming again a few months out at the end of summer.
00:03:24:18 - 00:03:48:19
Unknown
Now, in that moment, I was so excited. I was this was a full yes inside of me. I felt so lucky. I was, I was into it. And yet in the moment when she asked that question, which I preferred, I immediately started thinking, oh, later is better. You know, I had the thought like, you could lose some weight before then.
00:03:48:19 - 00:04:11:00
Unknown
If I'm being honest, I did have that thought. I also thought that some more time to prep and get ready and really create your content and make sure it's really good. You know, like more time just look like the better option for a variety of reasons. Well, so I said that and I let her know. Well then as life went on, schedules are busy.
00:04:11:00 - 00:04:38:18
Unknown
They have a lot going on that day. Kept getting pushed further and further out. And then the global pandemic happened and all filming stopped completely. Well, that opportunity slipped away. And when I think about it, of course I'm disappointed. And and I also just trust, like if it's meant to be, it'll come back. Right. You know, or there are plenty of opportunities in the world.
00:04:38:18 - 00:05:02:10
Unknown
So I know it's not the only one, but when I think about it, here's what I know in that moment when I got the option to go in, just take advantage of the open window right there or wait. That decision to wait really came from a place of fear and insecurity. Now it was disguised as it'll be better.
00:05:02:12 - 00:05:32:03
Unknown
It sounded rational, reasonable. I mean, you know, the weight thing. I don't really know about that piece, but every other part of it really felt like, yeah, yeah, that's smart. That's smart. But if I had just jumped in, that could have already been done. If I had just said yes and followed that through with action, take saying yes, even though I was nervous about it, even though I wasn't sure if I was ready.
00:05:32:05 - 00:06:00:08
Unknown
Because here's the thing. They reached out to me. They had looked at all of my content. I was obviously ready in their eyes. So that decision really with love and compassion and understanding, the idea of perfect timing, perfect body, perfect conditions is potentially just a disguise for fear. And ultimately, life moves on without us. Opportunities may move on.
00:06:00:08 - 00:06:31:13
Unknown
Inspiration can die out or flatten out as we start overthinking everything. This is what I love about my work and my work with other founders, entrepreneurs and coaches is that business often gives us an opportunity. It can shine a light on our patterns. They can show up in so many ways second guessing, self-doubt, the need to get it right, overthinking, getting too many people's opinion over studying, over consumption.
00:06:31:15 - 00:07:07:04
Unknown
But underneath all of that is perhaps an attempt to avoid feeling the feelings that come with stepping into life, feeling the feelings that come when we step in and engage with those inner nudges or our heart's desires, or those opportunities that can feel exciting but a little risky. Life and business give us opportunities to show up, whether it's in a conversation, saying something that is feels vulnerable or risky.
00:07:07:06 - 00:07:35:11
Unknown
So in those moments when we decide to step into engagement, those opportunities will often wake us up to more of who we are. They wake us up to our own strengths. They wake us up to our creativity. They give us moments to step out of the safety and comfort of old patterns and rather than avoiding a shift, happens and we discover something wakes up inside of us.
00:07:35:13 - 00:08:04:04
Unknown
We evolve. Now, recently, I launched a new four month program called The Call. It's a four month deep dive immersion. It's an opportunity for participants to do some deep listening, some alignment, some clearing, and step into perhaps a new transition in life or a dream. Or perhaps it's an opportunity to know more of what's possible for them. Now.
00:08:04:04 - 00:08:30:17
Unknown
I created this and I was so excited and so inspired, and I put the program together over a weekend. I created this PDF, this thing that I was going to share. It was for invitation only people that have already worked with me because I knew we were going to go deep right away. So I got it all ready, and then it was time to actually invite people to to hit the send button and literally I went from excitement.
00:08:30:17 - 00:08:53:23
Unknown
It was ready to losing two weeks of time where I did absolutely nothing. I did not invite anyone. And now what I want to say is originally that pause looked like a good idea because I was wondering, oh, is the structure right? Did I leave enough time for the opening retreat? Do people have time to get there? You know?
00:08:54:00 - 00:09:28:11
Unknown
And again, it was a lot of second guessing over analyzing and rethinking everything in the disguise of have I got it right? But ultimately what it was doing was it was a how can I say it? It was like a a great way for me to feel more comfortable. It was conditioned patterns showing up and helping me avoid that feeling of hitting the send button, of inviting people to something that felt new to me.
00:09:28:11 - 00:09:55:08
Unknown
But when I realize, oh, I'm just avoiding that feeling, I'm just avoiding the feeling of vulnerability or potentially people rejecting it or, you know, it not working, nobody being interested. So once I saw that I was able to hit the send button. And again, it's an example of where business keeps offering us opportunities to choose ourselves, to back ourselves, to step in.
00:09:55:10 - 00:10:22:14
Unknown
Now, thankfully, I, I did get some responses and we had an amazing four months. We just completed the closing retreat a few weeks ago and it was really special, and I'm so grateful to the individuals that were there and those four months offered all of us so many gifts, and I'm so grateful that I hit send that this time.
00:10:22:16 - 00:10:54:05
Unknown
I didn't let that inspiration die out. I didn't let the opportunities slip away. I hit send and I look forward to offering it again. But that experience of holding that space in that container and giving myself the freedom to teach and move in different ways was such a gift for all of us. In a way, these are all examples that life, business, creativity is interactive, that by engaging and stepping into these things, we learn more about ourselves.
00:10:54:05 - 00:11:31:19
Unknown
We feel more alive. The anticipation, resistance, the mental gymnastics we do beforehand are all just potential ways of keeping us from stepping into the thing we're afraid of, from maybe feeling the feelings of vulnerability, or what it's like to do something that we're more uncertain, or to learn something new. But by stepping in, we experience the rush of life, the rush of expansion, the gift of connection, the gift of having more impact with other people.
00:11:31:21 - 00:11:59:01
Unknown
You know, I often think about the avoidance and the resistance piece. You know, a few years ago I lived in Scotland for a year and I started cold water swimming. And then that led to cold water plunges. And I was always fascinated that the the five plus minutes maybe, maybe much longer. But the time until I was in the water, my mind was all over the place.
00:11:59:01 - 00:12:39:00
Unknown
I was in resistance, like, oh, it's too cold, it's raining. It's windy. I'm tired. Maybe tomorrow would be better. Like, I had lots of reasons not to step in and not to take action. What's interesting, though, is all that noise, all that resistance, all that mental gymnastics. When I stepped in the water anyway, I was filled with a rush of joy, euphoria, aliveness, exhilaration, energy, and that would remain for hours afterwards.
00:12:39:02 - 00:13:29:13
Unknown
And this is the link I see to business and to our creativity and life, that if we let the mind take the lead all the time, we might never get in. You might delay. You might say, I'll be ready later. I'll be better later. Yet once again, if we allow ourselves to step in even when it's cold to step in, even when the conditions are not perfect or we think we'd be better later to allow ourselves to step in, I think we offer ourselves an opportunity to be totally surprised by ourselves, to be surprised by what life has to offer, to see where engagement takes us, where that momentum takes us so we aren't rewarded
00:13:29:13 - 00:13:57:08
Unknown
by waiting, polishing, or over planning. We're really rewarded and filled up when we back ourselves, and we allow ourselves to respond to life, to go all in. So if you've been waiting, waiting for confidence, waiting for clarity, waiting for the perfect time, this is your invitation. Make the first move. Not a perfect move, not a polished move, just a move.
00:13:57:10 - 00:14:23:11
Unknown
And notice what happens when you do. Because life isn't waiting for us to be flawless. It's waiting for us to just show up fully as we are. Thank you. And if this resonate it, please share it with someone who needs that reminder today as well. Now, before we wrap up, I just want to take another moment and invite you to the Inner Sessions taking place on Friday, September 19th.
