Clydesdale Media Podcast

Every Day we take a breath from our busy work day to hang out with friends and talk about the world of Sports, Entertainment and specifically CrossFit.  Today we talk about the fact that is seems there was a sale completed is that true?  The WFP finished their Online qualifiers and what does that mean.  What is going to happen with Tour Stop 2 being so close to the CrossFit Games?  Where are we at with the Bear.

What is Clydesdale Media Podcast?

We cover the sport of CrossFit from all angles. We talk with athletes, coaches and celebrities that compete and surround in the sport of CrossFit at all levels. We also bring you Breaking News, Human Interest Stories and report on the Methodology of CrossFit. We also use the methodology to make ourselves the fittest we can be.

what is going on everybody

it is lunchtime lunch with

the Clydesdale so good to

be with you today we're

gonna throw a dart I don't

always remember to do this

we're gonna do it today man

I thought I had it cited in

Monday was optimistic and

we have lost all hope lost

all hope I went way right

way right tonight so

What's going on, Meredith, Jody,

Train to Live, Terry, Barry, man,

what's going on?

So Barry, what is for lunch?

So two nights ago,

I got some shaved ribeye.

And then I grilled some

peppers and onions.

And I made my own steak

sandwich with some keto bread.

And it is waiting for me to

heat up in my panini press

right after the show.

Finding the shaved ribeye was like key.

I cannot wait to sink my

teeth into that again.

It was so good.

So good.

Just seasoned with a little

Worcestershire sauce,

a little bit of liquid amino, garlic,

salt, pepper, and it's perfect.

It's perfect.

It tastes like a Philly cheesesteak,

only better.

It just is freaking amazing.

Barry says, ribeye is the best cut.

Trained to live.

That sounds delicious.

It was perfect.

Perfect.

And then I got some fresh black cherries.

I'm going to have a little bit of that.

And then I have some fresh

cut vegetables that I

always add at the end of my lunch.

So there we go.

Whoops.

Da Bears.

Never heard of shaved ribeye.

It must be new at the

butcher counter at the

grocery store here.

We have a grocery store called Meijer,

and they do this

occasionally where they shave beef.

and um and this time they

were shaving ribeye and I

was like well hell if they

have ribeye I'm going with

that and it I it could not

it could not have been any

better shaved ribeye

grilled onions and peppers

on a keto bun it was

freaking awesome man a lot

of people jumping in the

chat today uh vicky loving

I've been able to make this

part of my lunchtime

routine thank you scott

Uh, Jeremy eats word Bajan.

Cool.

The bears are not, uh, I love Tyson Bajan,

but I also love the bears.

So I know you're a Wisconsin guy,

so I'm assuming you're a

Packer fan and God will

forgive you for that.

Um, so I vindicate,

can't wait to get my Hattie shirts.

All right, man.

Twenty five dollars.

No, no, it was it was nowhere near that.

The shaved ribeye was, I want to say,

probably like in the eight

to nine dollar pound range.

That means it's old,

just like rotisserie chicken,

and they try to get rid of it.

Hey.

Hey.

Tasted good, Ken.

That's all I got to say.

And I don't have the

equipment to shave it down

like they do for the sandwich.

So the one thing I forgot,

I did put horseradish on it.

Every time I have like steak,

a dab of horseradish goes on that.

Best condiment in the world.

Most underrated condiment in the world.

All right.

So glad everybody is here.

There's a lot going on, man,

for being kind of three weeks out,

two weeks out to the games.

We've got a lot of news

circling around the space.

And if you guys,

this seems to be the clue

that everybody is jumping in on.

This was posted on Dave

Castro's Instagram last

night or yesterday afternoon.

It is just move.

There's a little tag down here.

Him and Jada Coons were in

New York city yesterday.

That is where Berkshire resides as well.

They have an office in New York city and,

It appears that they are in

the final steps or stages

of the sale of CrossFit.

The circumstantial evidence

is pointing to the B-Sport people,

Malik and company, buying CrossFit.

We don't have any official announcement.

It's a lot of circumstantial

stuff at this point.

But it appears that CrossFit

is on the verge of selling.

When I was watching Siobhan

and Matt talk about it last night,

I made the comment that my

bet is that there's an

agreement in principle in place.

And now they're trying to

figure out the details of the money.

And so money probably has

not changed hands,

but there is an agreement in principle,

meaning that all other bids

will be taken off the board for now.

And they will work solely on

this deal to try to bring it home.

So my guess is that is where they're at.

I heard Siobhan a little bit

ago say there could be an

announcement today.

So I guess we'll be watching

all the socials for that as

we move forward.

Um,

of course he would have way more inside

information than I do.

Um,

I just try to follow all the tea leaves.

I know that last night he was saying that,

uh,

that he thinks that the new company

will keep on Jay to Coons and, uh, Dave.

And, and then I've watched Amanda Hari.

She said she didn't think

they would keep Dave on, uh,

I talked about Dave being

like so important to the

current group of CrossFit

headquarters because he was

the scapegoat for everything.

And if you remove him from their equation,

then everything falls onto

the CEO and the board of directors.

And Dave has been the good

soldier to kind of take all

the slings and arrows that

have been sent to him.

Someone has to have some

respect for someone that's

willing to do that for the

company they work for.

And so if I'm an outsider coming in,

looking at the situation

and looking at what Dave

did for the current group of CrossFit HQ,

standing in front of all

the bullets and the hate

and taking all of that on

while Don and the board of

directors got off scot-free

with everything that

happened with Lazar's death

and then after,

that's someone I want on my team.

If I am B-Sport and I am

looking at what exists now,

I want that guy who's

willing to stand out there

and take it all on and protect me.

Um, Larry Young says, I don't see a good,

I don't see a good reason

to announce it before the games.

Um, I, I am kind of in your camp, Larry.

If I'm the new company, I don't want to,

first of all,

I am tired of people sitting

in front of a microphone

and a camera giving me half fans,

half asked fluff answers.

am sick of that I would

rather have whoever the new

owner is take some time get

a plan in place and then

tell me the full response

as to what they want to do

not some kind of half-assed

word salad we've had enough

of that for the last few

years five years of that we

don't need any more

I think it would be more

beneficial for them to buy it, sit back,

take a look at what's going on,

put a plan in place, who's staying,

who's going, what are they going to do,

and then make the announcement,

here we are,

and give us what's going to happen.

trained to live,

and Dave knows the ins and

outs of running CrossFit

sport unless they are

trying to overhaul it completely.

He also knows the ins and

outs of the seminar staff,

the seminars themselves.

He has been over education

for much of his tenure with CrossFit,

and I think that is

actually more important

than his experience with the games.

That

That's what they need.

The seminars, the L ones, the L twos,

those are the moneymakers.

Those are the things you're

purchasing when you're

buying this company.

That's the expertise they need.

Barry McOchner.

Didn't they do that with Don?

Wasn't he introduced before the games?

Yes.

They hired him as CEO right

before the games.

They introduced him at the games.

And then we got this

half-assed fluff BS from

him instead of having a plan in place.

Uh, Rosa bought the company and then,

and it was around COVID.

And so his whole focus was just get, um,

just getting the games started,

which should not have been

the priority at that point in time.

The priority should have

been getting CrossFit

stabilized during that era

and the COVID time that's

going on and not about

putting on the games.

And that became his focus,

and that started to decline

right from there.

The Savant podcast, that's a great take.

I hadn't thought of.

He's great at taking public abuse.

That's what he's been used

for for the last nine months, Savant.

He had to be given a

directive from Don Fall and

the board of directors when

Lazar died to go out there

and be the public face of everything.

And then everybody just hated on him.

And that's why the letter

said fire Dave and not fire Don.

or not fire the board of

directors or sell the company.

Everybody thinks Dave's

responsible for everything.

He's the director of the games.

He's not the CEO.

He's not the board of directors.

And they got off scot-free

in this whole thing because

Dave took it all on.

The more I sit back and look

at this whole thing like,

it's almost like Dave should

be a hero for what he did

for the company instead of vilified.

Nobody's even looking behind the curtain.

Everybody's just aiming

their hate at Dave.

When you were interviewing

Ariel and she's talking

about how Luca got put on,

on the broadcast when he

didn't want to be Dave,

isn't the director of the broadcast.

Yet they're blaming Dave for that.

The people at CrossFit made

him the scapegoat and he

played the part well.

And he's the only one to

apologize for anything that

happened last year.

Yet you have all these

haters coming after him

when he was just a small

part of the whole thing.

It's insane.

It's insane.

So... I'm with you.

Um...

Larry,

that I don't think they should do it now.

I think that even if the purchase happens,

they don't announce it

until after the games are over.

Doug Reed, all true.

The weird part is that Don

was who cut the game's

budget yet received no venom.

He is the CEO of the company.

The final approval of

everything that happens

should go across his desk.

And he got no venom.

Jeremy eats world outrage.

Culture found its way into the one place.

You thought it wouldn't CrossFit.

Barry McOchner.

Have you ever,

have you seen the three

people who are Berkshire

partners for CrossFit?

They look like they have no

idea what they're doing.

Doug Reed, imagine if Dave was named CEO.

I want to see B-Friend's

face if that were to happen.

I don't know.

After watching what he did

these last nine months,

I think he's a viable option.

Larry Young.

What's funny,

I'm guilty of complaining about Dave.

Never for his character.

Just want weights, twenty percent heavier.

And I haven't changed for eighteen years.

We all complain about Dave.

That's been the character

he's played since the whole

thing started back in two thousand seven.

He's the one that put us all

through misery in the open.

He's a...

It's been that character,

but things got serious when

someone dies at the games.

And it wasn't just a character anymore.

It was,

here's this guy that was a Navy

SEAL for twelve years,

and they gave him a mission

to go out and take the heat.

And he did.

Because that's what they do.

That's what they do.

And he's done it for nine months.

Andrew Stan,

I wonder if they asked Dave to

bear the brunt of the

criticism or if he said he would do it.

He seems to be able to

handle just about anything,

though you have to wonder

how it affects him.

I think if you've watched

his demeanor over these last nine months,

this has affected him.

But he is born to be a soldier.

He is born to complete the mission.

Whether he was told to do it,

asked to do it, or volunteered to do it,

he went out and did it.

He faced those athletes by

himself out there on the floor,

did what he could do to

move the games forward,

and then took all the heat

that they all had for him.

And he keeps on doing it.

Ahem.

vindicate dave is the only

one on staff who could

handle it I don't disagree

with you at all on that I

think he's the only one

that could have gone out

there and he's the only

figure that has had this

reputation where it's

really easy to hate on him

he's the he's the dave is a

prick he is the guy who

built this reputation as

the guy who put us in pain

every year in the open and

we were we were

raised to hate him through

this right and so it's

really easy for people to

look at Dave and throw the

hate his way it was

actually whoever decided to

make him the face after the

death of Lazar was that was

a brilliant decision

because it was easy to

transfer all that hate onto

him and everybody else got off scot-free

um brock bazette bezet uh

dave said himself there's

no one better or more

qualified to be the ceo

trained to live echoes that

uh said with peter he

doesn't think anyone could

run crossfit better than

him and he was definitive

there was no hesitation in

his voice when he answered

that question no hesitation

Joseph Ramirez,

he accepts it and thrives

off all the hate.

I don't disagree with you,

especially in the early days.

I think this year is taking

somewhat of a toll.

But I think also what it's

made him is want to have

the opportunity to right

the ship in the way that he

knows it needs to be done best.

He made this sacrifice this

year to save everybody else's ass.

And now he wants to write

the ship and get CrossFit back on track.

Turns out Dave is a hero in this drama.

Isn't it funny how that works out?

That the guy at the

beginning of the story that

you think is the villain

somehow turns out to be the

hero in the end.

It's kind of awesome.

Especially if he pulls it all off.

I understand.

I think he's good at it

because he's able to keep

his professional life and

personal life so separated.

Agreed.

And that comes from twelve

years of training.

Those Navy SEALs had to keep

everything separate,

personal and private.

It's probably the only way

they make it through their day sometimes.

So, I'm anxious to hear what happens.

I know earlier in the chat,

it was flying by like a whirlwind.

I saw somewhere,

is B-Sport the Northern Spirit people?

Yes.

They are the Northern Spirit people.

All this goes back to the first...

Matt Sousa show where he got

out his ball of yarn and

all of the pictures and

connected all the dots.

It appears that that has

been the thing the whole time.

And that looks like the way they're going.

If Dave would have been fired,

there would have been no games this year,

and the athletes would have

been complaining.

I'm not sure that would be the case.

I just don't know how it would look.

Shanna Bunce,

I find it hard to call him or

anyone a hero in this

instance without the facts.

We don't have the facts.

I think we have a lot of facts,

and I think that when I say hero...

How do I want to say this?

A hero doesn't have to be a

hundred percent all good.

The hero is the person that

moves the story along.

And you have this tragic death.

and you wish it didn't happen,

and you learn a lot from that.

And as we've noticed this year,

like with what I talked about yesterday,

the athletes got the email,

and then it was released by

Hiller and Barbell Spin

that they got a letter

about safety protocols for

outdoor events at the games,

and there's only going to

be one outdoor event.

If you're learning from it

and you're changing from it

and you're making things

better because of it,

then I think you can twist

into the hero out of tragedy.

I still think some of those

facts have to be protected

until all legal matters are settled.

And I don't know where we

are with any of that stuff

in the background.

Judy Reed, look at David in the Bible.

Yeah, definitely not a perfect human being,

but ended up being a pretty big hero.

Larry Young, well,

I'm hoping after overpaying

for my tickets,

the vendor village is good.

Deadpool type hero.

There you go.

Deadpool, David,

kind of the one in the same.

So the next thing on my list

to talk about is we have

the WFP whose event is

coming up in late August.

Let me look this up real quick.

Um,

tour stop two is coming up and it is

trying to find the dates of

that dog on it.

Anyway, it's a couple of weeks after, um,

August, twenty nine to thirty first.

So you have the CrossFit Games,

August first through the third.

Then you have the World

Fitness Tour Stop two at

the end of the month.

And what did I say?

The twenty ninth through the thirty first.

So about four weeks apart.

What what WFP did to the

French throwdown is now

being done back to them.

in this case you're going to

have people putting it all

on the line for ten eleven

twelve events in the

crossfit games and then

have to turn around and do

the the tour stop two in three weeks

are we going to get subpar

performances from those

people who just beat up

their bodies at the

crossfit games now

competing at tour stop two

And does that mean that it's

inevitable that these

athletes that skip the

CrossFit game season will

have a very distinct

advantage at tour stop two for WFP?

And is it going to be

compelling to watch because

you have people that's

bodies are beat up from the

CrossFit games,

trying to compete with

these rested individuals.

And,

and I think that that's where the

world fitness project has

made a big miss.

the key to competition is

having a level playing

field for everybody.

And that is not going to happen.

And that is not going to

happen with what's going on in August,

because you're going to

have over half the field

that is completely beat up

because the games do that

to an individual.

They really beat them up and

it takes them weeks to recover.

They're just going to be

coming out of that and then

have to compete again.

This is where I think there

is a distinct problem with

the way that the WFP scheduled.

So Jody is looking for tickets.

Larry,

I was just looking at prices this

morning.

And I know she lives just

like an hour away from the

CrossFit games.

So she's trying to get there.

Sarah Cooper,

they will have all just shown

themselves at the games on

a hopefully free YouTube live stream.

No one will care about WFP.

That is really my, my, my thought here,

Sarah is how good is it or

how compelling is it going

to be to watch when people

are just not competitive

because they're coming off

the CrossFit games where it

truly does beat up a body and

There will be a few people

probably not competing.

Or will WFP athletes that

are out of it after a day

or two at the games take

the foot off the gas and

water down the games?

Could be that way, too.

I thought about that, too, Ken.

Well, I'm out of this one.

Might as well back it off

and rest my body for World

Fitness Project.

Tristan Patrick is selling a

ticket if anyone needs one.

Hector Trinta is someone

going to not give it all at

the games to save their

best for the WFP tour stop too?

I don't think so.

I think the way it's going

to happen is they're going

to give their all, not be competitive,

and then take their foot off the gas.

I think that's how it's going to go down.

Hattie does have a, a percent off code.

It's a Hattie.

And I,

and she has an E at the end of her name,

H a T T I E at checkout.

I trained to live.

I get the dilemma when

there's potential money-making involved.

many people at the games are

actually doing both you'd

be surprised there's a lot

of women signed up for both

the men is less so uh

joseph ramirez wt uh

athletes already got paid

but they just need to show

up and give fifteen percent

effort well they do have a

chance to win more money

Just saying.

So, uh,

I did want to pull up the

qualifiers real quick,

just because I was really

surprised at how many women,

how deep the women's field is for this.

And then the men,

nobody signed up for nobody.

Um,

So here is the women's field.

And if you look at the challengers,

now because of injury and pregnancy,

I think eleven women get into the pros.

And so you have Jamie Simmons,

Annika Greer, Ota Ludikvam,

Andrea Solberg, Jennifer Muir,

Sydney McElishan, Ella Wilkinson,

Kyra Milligan, Hannah Black,

Elena Karatala, and Var Thurman-Mo.

Just outside, you have Lydia Fish,

Linda Kiesman, Mathilde Garnes,

Ingrid Tondell, Janie Chevry,

Trista Smith, Lexi Neely, Emily Rethwell,

Paige Powers,

it's so deep the amount of

women that signed up for this qualifier.

And this is all prior to video review.

Um, train to train to live.

Did Jamie end up doing the qualifier?

She did,

but she was coming off a fourth of

July weekend.

That probably wasn't ideal

to then do these workouts.

Uh, so she finished in the fifties.

I think if we go down here, um,

Sure.

There she is.

Fifty eight.

Again, she if you look at the video,

you can see it's definitely

not the best of Jamie Latimer.

She was on a boat all

weekend out in Lake Michigan.

Then if you look on the men's side.

You have Nick Matthew, Tudor Magda,

Enola Kai, Colin Bossard, Miko, Lily Orge,

Jack Farlow, Nate Ackerman, Ty Jenkins,

Julius Kaiser.

And then when you get down

into what would be the challenger piece,

not a lot of names down here.

Fabian Benito, Danny Camacho, Sam Zerlich,

Nicholas Bedden, Roldan Goldbaum,

Tola Morakunyo, Brionne Guillaume,

Thomas O'Pierre, Chris Ibarra.

I mean, there's some names,

but it is definitely not as

deep as the women's field at all.

So.

It's going to be interesting to see.

We're going to see how the

attrition affects all this.

I know Spin did a big thing

about how many people

didn't do this qualifier

that did do the first one

and the drop-off and the

percentages and all of that

if you wanted to check that out.

A trained to live wants to

know where the gooch fell.

Um...

I'm not sure I know how to spell it right.

Shoot.

I am looking.

Gooch, Gooch, Gucci, Gooch, Goo.

He didn't do well.

I must have hit something though.

Ah, vindicate.

Gooch fell in a very good position.

Know what I'm saying?

Oh my gosh, you guys.

Where did Gooch finish?

In Danielle Brandon.

Okay.

Cha-ching.

Do I have the rim?

Oh, I do.

Gooch with a pooch smooching the cooch.

Gooch was distracted.

I knew that was coming all

right I am looking now for

the gooch there we go he

actually finished fifty

second fifty second

He had a forty six fit place finish,

a fifty five fifth place

finish and a fifty first place finish.

OMG, the sound effects.

I've had these all along.

Suze is really good at I

don't even I forget they're there.

Uh.

Okay, there's a lot here.

Where is it at?

The lunch brand is changing slowly.

Yes.

And then Train to Live says

she was sorry for asking.

And Judy reads this.

No, you're not.

All right.

I don't know.

My cheek's red now.

There we go.

So hopefully we've answered

all things Gooch.

And we're coming up on my

time to get back to work.

So the last thing I wanted to,

two quick things.

And that is that Sean

Woodland announced on

Talking Elite Fitness that

he is not going to be doing

the games again this year.

But it is not because of

CrossFit this year.

He was actually asked to do the games,

but he has a scheduling

conflict and will not be

announcing the games.

And so I believe Chase

Ingram is doing the games again.

That was announced on

Talking Elite Fitness.

Just wanted to share that with you.

I'm a big fan of Sean

Woodland as an announcer.

I think he does a great job,

but he will not be doing

the games this year.

It will be chase again.

And then the last thing,

just a little thing.

I'm watching the bear season four,

trying to get through that.

We just watched the wedding

episode last night.

And if you love the first

couple of seasons of the

bear and you get to that wedding episode,

it is everything you love the bear about.

And I had a tough, tough time.

I had a tough,

tough time with season three of The Bear,

but I am really,

really excited now that

we're getting into season

four of The Bear.

The wedding episode is a lot

like the Forks episode from

season two with less drama at the end,

but really, really good.

Daniel Church is on season three of Bluey.

Good luck with that, buddy.

Good luck.

Uh, Shauna Bunce, uh, no Sean bummer.

Uh, Joseph Ramirez, sick show.

I'm starting tonight.

And is mama Clydesdale watching?

She may think she's on the wrong podcast.

Uh, yeah, she is.

Yeah, she is.

Um, hopefully not watching.

She hasn't been watching as much lately.

She's going through some stuff.

She had that stroke a few months ago,

and I really need her to

get into the doctor.

I may have to go home this

weekend and force some things to happen.

So I don't know.

We'll see about that.

Dense updates.

Wow.

Congrats, Chase.

Yay about Chase from Judy Reed.

Yeah, Chase is great.

I like alternative broadcast stuff,

but I like Chase too.

I just like having the alternative,

both options available.

I know that CrossFit will

never do that with the

financial place they are right now,

but I love when Monday

Night Football gives me two

options for announcers.

Because if I'm watching my

Chicago Bears and I just want the details,

I watch Troy and Joe.

And if I'm watching another

team and I don't really

care about the details,

I watch Peyton and Eli.

That's the way it is.

Joseph Vermeer says,

Sean may have talked his

way out of commentating for

the games again.

From what I understand,

he is being hired by

CrossFit to do

post-production stuff is

what he said on Talking Elite Fitness.

This is all from him.

And that they had a great

conversation and there was

actually a lot of apologies

about last year and he is

going to be doing some stuff for them.

It's just not during the

weekend because he has a

scheduling conflict.

And Jenny says scheduling conflict.

Hmm.

So investigative reporter,

Jenny dense updates is on the case.

All right, guys.

Well, I need to get back to work.

I just got handed a big

project before this show.

So, uh, I've got to hit that pretty hard.

And maybe that's a, for a conversation.

Uh,

Haha, I'm not in restrictive.

I train to live.

Enjoy your steak sandwich, Scott.

I am going to enjoy every

bite of the steak sandwich.

Yes, I will.

Shaved ribeye is coming into

my mouth and then into my belly.

Not an investigative reporter.

I'm going to call you that

until you stop figuring all

this shit out.

With that, you know, go ahead.

Let's get back to work to.

I will see everybody next

time on Lunch with the Clydesdale.
