Frequently Asked Questions
Are recruitment agencies better than in-house hiring?
It depends. Agencies offer speed, reach and specialist networks, while in-house teams have a better understanding of company culture and greater control over the recruitment process.

When should a business outsource recruitment?
Outsourcing can be particularly valuable when hiring for niche, senior or confidential positions, or when a business lacks the internal capacity or experience to manage recruitment effectively.

What are the hidden costs of in-house recruitment?
Mishires, lost productivity, lengthy hiring processes and the time internal teams spend interviewing candidates can all add significant costs.

Are recruitment agencies becoming less relevant because of AI?
AI can streamline certain aspects of recruitment, but human judgment, negotiation and candidate relationship management remain important parts of successful hiring.

How do you find the best employees for your business? We’re here with Alexa Del Salvera and she’s going to answer that for us. So Alexa, how do you find the best employees for your business?
Alexa Del Salvera (00:14)
Through referrals, targeted sourcing, and proactive engagement with passive candidates. Networks and candidate relationships matter. I’ve often interviewed a candidate knowing they’re not really a fit for one role, but in the back of my mind I’m placing them in a few other roles where they could be a good fit. So it’s about keeping that openness with the candidate and keeping those conversations…
Alexa Del Salvera (00:41)
…alive, to make sure that even though it’s a no this time, it doesn’t mean it’ll still be a no later down the line.
Sasha Damon (00:48)
And where should employers look when searching for high-quality candidates?
Alexa Del Salvera (00:56)
We have the usual: LinkedIn, your industry networks, your referrals, and specialised job boards. But as times are changing, social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram are also proving quite useful for attracting good-quality candidates — and for getting your employer brand out there in places where we wouldn’t necessarily have been seen on specialised platforms.
Sasha Damon (01:25)
That’s interesting. I never thought of that as an avenue.
Sasha Damon (01:30)
How important are referrals, LinkedIn and recruitment agencies when finding top talent? You mentioned LinkedIn and referrals — but what about recruitment agencies?
Alexa Del Salvera (01:42)
LinkedIn is important, and so are referrals, because they provide trusted, high-quality candidates faster than waiting for candidates to apply. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t find hidden gems in the applications either.
Alexa Del Salvera (01:58)
So we have to balance both. But generally, when someone refers a candidate to your business…
Alexa Del Salvera (02:07)
…they’re doing it because they know what you’re looking for and what that other person is capable of.
Sasha Damon (02:14)
And how can employers identify passive candidates who aren’t actively looking for a job?
Alexa Del Salvera (02:24)
By networking, by engaging on LinkedIn or other platforms, and by keeping an eye on what they’re working on or what their passion projects are. I always tend to look at what impact it has, and think to myself: what benefit would it bring to have someone like that on our team?
Sasha Damon (02:44)
What should businesses do when the right candidates aren’t applying for the role?
Alexa Del Salvera (02:51)
Reassess your requirements. I think I’ve said it before — don’t write a wish list, keep it to the point. Broaden your sourcing avenues, or alternatively invest in training for current employees to fill the skills gap.
Sasha Damon (03:07)
Is the best candidate actually the person with the strongest CV, or is that an outdated way of hiring?
Alexa Del Salvera (03:14)
That’s very much an outdated way of hiring. With AI we can get CVs matched to a job description in seconds, so a good CV is just the tip of the iceberg. You need to look for adaptability, culture fit and impact, more than just a polished CV. Conversations and assessments — those show the true potential.
Sasha Damon (03:36)
Thank you so much for those insights, Alexa. We appreciate it.
Alexa Del Salvera (03:42)
Thank you.
