Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
Then the redeemed will be welcomed to the home that Jesus is
preparing for them. – Steps to Christ, pg. 126
“You can put the leaves right there.”
Furrowed lines of concentration etched themselves across my
forehead as my finger pointed to a spot by a flat rock. Bustling over,
my brother deposited his load. Smoothing the last bit of clay onto the
walls of the tiny mud house, I busily flicked the bangs away from my
eyes. My eight-year-old frame took on a scrutinizing air as I stood back
to admire my latest advancement in architectonics.
“Well, the house is done. You can bring it over and put it inside
now. I really hope it hasn’t escaped!”
Eyes wide with sudden apprehension, my brother scampered
over to the hole in the dirt where “it” was. Peering inside, his worried
features suddenly relaxed as he realized that the subject of our
concern was still safely trapped within the temporary confines of his
dirt dungeon.
The frustrated toad glared up at the two dirt-smudged little
faces as we, joyfully oblivious of his disgruntled expression, picked him
up and deposited him in the midst of our masterpiece. Pure happiness
spread over our faces at the sight of our new pet hopping around in
his house. With a big grin, my brother came to a blissful conclusion: “I
think he likes it!”
The careful, loving work that went into building a home for our
pet polliwog is only a faint reflection of what Jesus is doing in heaven
right now. However, unlike the mud-plastered walls that surrounded
our toad, the home that He is preparing will be surpassingly beautiful.
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would
have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2 NKJV). Let
us not miss out on the opportunity of spending eternity with our Savior.
His promise is sure, and His excitement is real: He can’t wait to show
us our new home!
