PART 1 FACTS
Jan Hammer Group – Peaceful Sundown
- On this date in 1985, the soundtrack to Miami Vice hits #1 on the Billboard charts, ushering in a new era of importance for TV soundtracks.
- The show is very music centric, debuting In The Air tonight by Phil Collins & other songs from Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, & Melle Mel. This is no accident as the networks were rather blindsided by MTV’s success and are playing catchup with the cultural phenomenon.
- Thus, the directive for the series creators from Brandon Tartikoff was simple: “MTV Cops.”
- The main theme which was wildly popular and seemed to catch lightning in a bottle for the time, was composed by Jan Hammer, who we just heard in an earlier incarnation. Jan grew up in Czechoslovakia before moving to Germany and eventually getting a chance to attend Berklee College of Music.
Hotel Décor – Sunflower
- One of our underdog favorites out there right now, true name Csaba Laszlo is back with this single, which he published independently.
- Getting lots of hype over the weekend and some good blog features.
The Delines – Little Earl
- This is some great Texas soul right here, and is an excellent story.
- The band out of Austin has been on hiatus for the last three years as they waited for their lead singer Amy Boone to recover from having both her legs horrifically broken after being hit by a car.
- The good news is the band is back with their leading lady, and this is the first single to their upcoming album due out February 11 called The Sea Drift.
Morning Silk feat Sur Black & Kolezanka – So Fun
- This is their 2nd single from the New York-based project led by Frank Corr that we’ve thrown on the air, after lead single Don’t Try Hard Enough.
- It says the self-titled debut LP is due out later this year, but I can’t find a date anywhere on this. However, both these singles have been great thus far, so looking forward to this.
daste. – light on
- The Sydney-based soul collective is out with their debut album as of last Wednesday, put out courtesy of Mammal Sound in Australia.
- This is an interesting tune, they’re usually more of a soul outfit, but this one is a slow burning proper ballad. The album is dusk&dawn, available everywhere.

Dad Bod – Tenderness
- As discussed and featured previously on the show, this is a sextet out of Salt Lake City, UT in the US.
- The band also just dropped their debut LP last week called Pastels. The new album is this really great meld of 60’s & 70’s influences, and you can hear the interplay between them as they track & record together, unlike many artists nowadays.
- Pastels is available everywhere now, and once again that’s Dad Bod.
PART 2 SONGS
Endearments – Empress
Louiza - Kind Coincidence
Peaness - Whats The Use?
Mediocre - Give In
Baile - After All This Time
Crayon - Misplace (ft Tora & Gracy Hopkins)
PART 2 FACTS
Endearments – Empress
- Endearments is the moniker of Kevin Marksson. He is an artist currently based in Brooklyn.
- This song is the new single off of his new EP. The is called Father of Wands and it will drop this Friday.
- As the title of the EP suggests, the EP is Tarot card inspired. This new track is called “Empress” which is also one of the cards in Tarot. He says that this song is about asserting independence in a relationship where one partner is very controlling.
- What do you think Danno? Tarot cards, yay or nay?
Louiza - Kind Coincidence
- Louiza is from Oakland and she is a very fast-rising singer-songwriter in the indie world.
- Her sound has been described as a blend of jazz, electro-pop, and a little rock as well. I’m totally feeling it.
- Her vocals kind of remind me of Joni Mitchell actually, but maybe with a little bit more edge, if that makes any sense.
- Anyway, she just released a new EP this past Friday called “White Light”, so go and check that out.
Peaness - Whats The Use?
- Peaness is an indie rock trio from Chester, England. “What’s the Use?” is their very latest and it comes via that band’s own label, Totally Snick Records.
- They just announced that they will be releasing their debut full length album. The album will drop next year and “What’s the Use?” is the first single.
- This track was actually scheduled for release last summer, but ultimately, the band decided to wait for the pandemic to pass before releasing it. Now that it is starting to look like we might see some better days this year in terms of the pandemic, they have a whole tour scheduled and are ready to get back on track with their original pre-pandemic plans.
Mediocre - Give In
- Mediocre is a duo from LA. They are pretty new on the scene. About a month ago, they released their debut track called “Waiting for Your Heart”. It was kind of a late night, heartbreak indie rock / pop kind of tune and their new one kind of follows in the same vein.
- “Give In” is a track that would be well suited for an “after the break-up" montage in a romantic movie. You know, the person misses their ex so much, and is just going through all the typical self-destructive behaviors...drinking a lot and crying themselves to sleep after eating an entire tub of ice cream... that kind of thing.
Baile - After All This Time
- I was trying to find a word to describe this track and the word that came to mind was “deep”. I would say this track is very deep, whatever that means.
- Baile is a producer based in Brooklyn. “After All This Time” is his latest offering and it is the title track of his forthcoming first full-length album, which is scheduled for release before this year is through.
- I got to give it up to Felicia Douglass. She provides the enchanting vocals for this one. Great collab between these two artists for sure.
Crayon - Misplace (ft Tora & Gracy Hopkins)
- This song might be my pick of the week. I love the wooziness of the beat. Vocally, it is very smooth but the glitchiness of the instrumental kind of makes me feel a little on edge... and I like it.
- Crayon is a producer and multi-instrumentalist from Paris and he teams up with Australian band Tora and rapper Gracy Hopkins for this gem of a track.
- The artists were all hanging out at Crayon’s new apartment and they kind of just had a session together and started the song spontaneously. Crayon says that the track is about accepting the dark places you may find yourself in life, and embracing whatever comes out of it.
PART 3 SONGS
Marina - I Love You But I Love Me More (feat Beach Bunny)
Anorak Patch – Delilah
Foyer Red - Blood
Coming Up Roses - All Our Time
Mike Turpin - Blacked Out Love
Jennifer Hall - Why Cut Time
PART 3 FACTS
Marina - I Love You But I Love Me More (feat Beach Bunny)
- What a great title for a song eh Danno? Marina is a vocalist from London and she teams up with Chicago based indie pop band Beach Bunny for this track.
- Actually, this track is a sort of remake. The original version can be found on Marina’s fifth studio album, Ancient Dreams in a Modern World.
- I think Beach Bunny did a great job with this one, I think it was a strong collab for sure.
Anorak Patch – Delilah
- Anorak Patch is a quartet from Colchester, England. “Delilah” is their newest offering and it is a song about leaving the small town you are from for something bigger and more exciting.
- Well in truth, the town referred to in the song is just a metaphor for being in a small and limiting frame of mind.
- This band is definitely one to watch. They are very young. Their oldest member is just 18 and their drummer is actually just 15 years old. Impressive stuff from these talented musicians.
Foyer Red – Blood
- This track is so great. I am totally in love with it. Foyer Red is a Brooklyn-based trio. They just recently released a 6-track EP. It is called Zigzag Wombat, and it comes via Terrible Records.
- I had a listen and the EP is pretty wild. It just sounds so refreshing, I highly recommend it. Blood is my favorite track but in all honestly, each track is pretty awesome.
Coming Up Roses - All Our Time
- Coming Up Roses is an alt-rock / shoegaze band from Singapore. They were previously a quartet, but their drummer left and this track is their first release as a trio.
- They say that this song is about finding forgiveness and a way to move forward.
- Overall, I think they have a very classic indie feel to their music. Very cool stuff for sure.
Mike Turpin - Blacked Out Love
- Mike Turpin is an indie artist currently based in Tokyo. He says that this new track is all about falling in love during a panic attack.
- He admits that it probably sounds like a strange time to fall in love but points out that falling in love rarely makes sense anyway and that people fall in love in unique ways all the time.
- I think this tune is really cool. It definitely has an 80s sound to it, and that pulsing bass is quite hypnotic. Solid stuff from Mike Turpin.
Jennifer Hall - Why Cut Time
- We are going to slow things down for the end of this quarter of the show with a new song from Jennifer Hall. Jennifer Hall hails from Chicago and “Why Cut Time” is her second release of 2021.
- I think she has a great voice and I like the sounds of this new one a lot. She released her debut EP in 2015, and then followed that up with “In the Water” in 2019. I’ve got a feeling that another project is on the way soon so I keep an eye out for any new developments with regards to that.
PART 4 SONGS
Chloe Rodgers – Bones
Creature of Doom - Dead Ringer
Ann Streichman - Smoke & Mirrors
NICOLAS - LEFT THE PARTY
HUSBANDS - Ancient One
Mild Minds - HAUNTED
PART 4 FACTS
Chloe Rodgers – Bones
- Chloe Rodgers is a Nottingham based singer-songwriter. This song was co-written by Alex Starling.
- He explains that this song is about losing someone who you should have kept close to in life. For whatever reason, you didn’t keep them close and then you end up being excluded from their life and also their death... pretty heavy premise there.
- Chloe Rodgers has been releasing music for about a year now, and I think her previous releases are definitely worth a listen so go and check them out.
Creature of Doom - Dead Ringer
- Staying on the darker spectrum of sound, we had Creature of Doom. Creature of Doom, is the moniker of David Baldwin. He is an artist based in LA.
- He released his debut EP, Tears of Joy, last year. “Dead Ringer” is his follow up single and it is another strong offering.
- I’ve got to mention that his music is mixed by Ali Chant, the man behind Perfume Genius, Soccer Mommy, and Aldous Harding. I think the two make a great team, Creature of Doom’s music all sounds very cool, and very well-crafted.
Ann Streichman - Smoke & Mirrors
- After a kind of dark opening to part 4, I want to lighten the mood a bit with some dance music vibes from the very talented Ann Streichman.
- She is a producer and DJ currently based in New York. Every time she puts out a new single, it is always good stuff for sure.
- This new track has a kind of old school Madonna vibe to it. Very cleanly executed, catchy, and ready for the dance floor. I like this one a lot.
NICOLAS - LEFT THE PARTY
- Keeping with the dance vibes we are going to follow that Ann Streichman track with Nicolas’ new tune. Nicolas is a producer from France and just last week he released a new EP.
- The EP is entitled WHAT WILL BE LEFT OF US, it is 6 tracks, and it is very good stuff. The EP is a kind of critique of the fast-paced, disconnected society we live in today.
- It’s a really strong offering, I definitely recommend checking it out.
HUSBANDS - Ancient One
- Husbands is a very good indie pop-rock duo from Oklahoma City. “Ancient One” is their very latest and it is yet another great offering from them.
- I believe we’ve had them on the playlist once or twice already and they never really disappoint; They got a great sound.
- Still no word on an EP or album so I guess we’ll just have to wait it out and see if we get any announcements before the year is through.
Mild Minds - HAUNTED
- Yes, we’ve got a smooth landing for the last track of tonight’s playlist courtesy of Mild Minds.
- Mild Minds is an electronic artist who is originally from Melbourne but who is now based in LA.
- Mild Minds says that this song is about melancholy. He, like many others, spent a lot of time this past year, stuck and home... which naturally kind of forces you to do a lot of thinking and reflecting about life.
- This song definitely has an introspective vibe to it, and that’s the vibe we will leave with all, tonight!
