It's time for the show, let's go!
Steve: Hey, welcome to CosaCast.
We're here at the 2024 Streamline
Summit just winding down we're
going to be doing takeaways.
We're here with Shannon, Katrina,
Brennan, Wendy, Jeremy, and Scott.
Guys, welcome.
Thanks for having us.
Thank you.
So, we're going to start with Brennan
and the takeaways that he had.
? Well, I liked a lot of the AI stuff.
They've definitely gained
more this year than last year.
They're going leaps and bounds over that.
They're starting to implement some in dev.
With Streamline, we're on their
little beta test with their property
descriptions, and we're adding more
stuff to that that I think they're
going to be rolling out next year.
Leo, their AI, I guess you
could say rental chatbot,
is going to be really cool.
We're working with an internet
provider now to possibly get
that rolling by next year.
So that's really cool too.
I really found a lot of good stuff
with the, I guess you could say self
help or Getting to know yourself better
and how to condition yourself and talk
with your employees and possibly guests
talking about how you can communicate
with them better and rolling with that.
I really like those sessions this year.
A lot.
Great.
Yeah.
Good feedback.
Wendy, what about you?
I'll piggyback off of what Brandon said.
Um, I'm excited about some new streamlined
features rolling out that Leo, the booking
assistant, I think is going to be really
exciting and something to watch for.
And I think what had highest impact
for me was similar to Brandon as
well is just kind of learning.
And remembering, I think the exact term
was to be fully and fearlessly engaged.
Super exciting to know that we
already have it in us without having
to work very hard at it, but just be
intentional on how to engage with with
everybody, with our teams, with our
guests, with our owners, inside of our
franchises and with other operators.
It just hit me when you said
that Leo, Streamlion, that's
where it comes from, isn't it?
Streamlion, they're booking us.
Yeah, Leo, the lion, I get it now.
I'm a little slow to the game on that.
Jeremy, how about you?
I attended a lot of good sessions.
Um, a lot of stuff focused on culture
and team building, and then obviously
Streamlion related sessions as well.
But my biggest kind of takeaway
was on team development.
Streamlion.
com And essentially that your team
is going to constantly change as
members are added and leave your team.
And you have to be constantly aware of
what stage of team development you're in.
And they discussed this kind
of Tuckman method of team
development is what it's called.
And so essentially there's five stages.
The forming stage, The storming
stage, the norming stage, performing
stage, and adjourning stage.
In each stage, there's kind of
different factors and elements at play.
As the team is getting started and
getting together and forming, you
have the maximum opportunity there.
To set a precedent of
culture and to set standards.
And a great tactic is to give an
easily done task to a new team
member just so that they can
get one win under their belt.
And you can celebrate that as a
team and you'd go into this next
stage, which is storming and that's
where the conflict is going to be.
That's where people start
to butt heads a little bit.
And so you have to work through
that to get to the norming stage
where things start to stabilize.
And hopefully you're going to move
into that performing area where
everything's going to start to click.
The systems are going to run together and
be really smooth and you're going to be
celebrating a lot of wins and victories.
And then the last stage is adjourning,
so when a team member leaves, you're
going to go back to that forming stage.
You're going to kind of mourn
the loss of that team member.
Give yourself and your
team time to adjust.
And let that set in and then reset the
clock, go back to that forming stage.
And it's a kind of rinse and
repeat cycle as your team changes.
Yeah, that's great.
It was really good.
I like that.
Yeah.
So Scott, what about you, pal?
I had a few things that I enjoyed the
most and one that I feel as though
it's going to benefit quite a bit
of our partners significantly that I
learned about by being here was now.
Airbnb is going to allow for the
pet fee to automatically kind
of flow in and get calculated.
So that's just alleviating a ton
of manual work that's being done.
So I love seeing when we can give
time back to individuals to focus on.
Other areas, instead of being tedious
within it, but above that, what I really
kind of took away from the streamline
conference is how the saga itself.
Pretty much is going above and beyond.
Many of what a lot of other property
managers are already implementing.
So the tools that we've learned at Sago
university and how we can implement a lot
of the processes is the most important
part because you can have all the
great ideas, but if you don't have the
processes in place to actually execute
your ideas, it's just going to fail.
So I love seeing all
these different markets.
They want to implement
different ideas, but.
They always feel like it's not
going to work because they haven't
defined what that process is.
So, um, seeing what Casago does for
those processes and how we have a lot
of knowledge here with Casago University
and sharing that, it leads me to believe
a lot of greatness is being established.
That's great.
All right, Katrina, what's your takeaway?
Actually, that's a really good point,
Scott, because I wasn't going to
mention this, but I really enjoyed
seeing other operators and people
attending this connecting with.
Our Costco team members in classes
and trying to pick their brain because
I think it's been established that
we are expert users in this system.
And using these tools, people
are starting to understand that.
We also have the piece to back them up.
And so it was really cool to start seeing
people that were engaging with all of you
guys and Stacy picking their brains and
asking questions that made me feel good.
The whole point of me coming here
this week personally was to actually
get back engaged in the tools.
I feel like I'm, I get further and
further away from using these tools
every single day, just in my role.
I'm not in the systems every day.
So I wanted to like, reacquaint myself
with new features and stuff like that.
So I specifically went to classes
and areas that I don't feel.
Very comfortable with the tools.
I learned some great AI stuff.
I went to taxes and fees session
today, which was interesting.
I went to a documents class that
I've been really excited for the
document features that are coming.
Especially because we're working in
Casa Go right now on a really cool new
document process for all of you guys
that will be rolling out at Casa Con.
So that was exciting for me personally.
But the one class that I went
to that I, that really stood out
the most was a branding class.
It was Amber Hurdle's branding class.
And it's not necessarily something that
I felt like maybe our other takeaways
from, but it was one that I felt like,
It gave me ideas and things that I want
to focus on within our branding guide
to make it better for everybody else to
use, to include a lot more information
and really to Show who we are, not just,
you know, the colors we use and the
fonts that we like and things like that.
So I have some really cool ideas
that I want to take back to that and
re envisioning our branding guide.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You mentioned that earlier
that that was great.
I'm Shannon from Casa Go Cannon Beach.
I'm new, so I'm going to have a
different take than everybody else.
It's my first Streamline conference.
It's probably my fourth
conference in general.
I want to agree with Katrina and
Amber's branding was phenomenal.
Just got me super motivated,
excited to push harder on the brand
and get things taken care of the
way they should be taken care of.
It was fabulous, but I would say
my biggest takeaway outside of some
really good, good ideas and ways
to make improvements that I need.
Was I didn't feel like I went into
classrooms where I was getting
a sales pitch from the vendor
who was running the class and I
felt in my last 3 other seminars.
I've gone to I've walked out.
Pretty disappointed in general, because
I just felt like I was getting a tiny
little bite of something, but not any
real good information to operate with.
And it was more so come see us at
the booth and maybe we can sign
you up and actually help you.
So I think.
The streamline did a really
good job of bringing vendors in
and probably making it clear.
It's not sales times.
It's actually time to teach
them something that I take away.
You actually got a piece of it.
So I think that was my, actually
my favorite part about it, but
I didn't feel that pressure.
I need to have to go sign up and
spend money to get something from
that course that I just sat in.
You didn't feel like
it was an infomercial.
Right, right.
Yeah.
And, and just enough to where you
go, What, what, wait, I was here
to learn something and I got enough
to say I still don't know anything.
Right.
Yeah.
And you got a sales pitch.
Yeah.
So I said you actually got
some valuable information.
So that was very appreciative for me.
But there were some great classes.
. All right, Stacey.
So what was your takeaway ? My
takeaway being my first
Streamline Summit was it was good.
I learned a lot.
I love conferences and
getting to visit with people.
It was really great to deep dive
into the software that we all use.
I'm impressed with how much we actually
get over other people in the industry.
With Streamline, with Costco, how
much Pilar and the team teach us.
That we learned from them, because a
lot of people didn't know what we know.
You mentioned that you were
surprised how many people didn't
have the same level of knowledge as
your peers here at Costco, right?
Yeah, a lot of things they were turning
on for people that they hadn't turned
on, which seemed really basic for us.
Whether it was work order
stuff, lists, all the things.
And then also just the fact
that there were some extra
charges for some of this stuff.
That we don't have to deal with.
I think another takeaway that
I learned is just how much
actually robust Streamline is.
There's a lot when I was looking
at different tech that you can buy
at these conferences with vendors.
It was amazing how I kept finding
ways in these classes with Streamline
that we can do it within the system.
There's actually a lot in the system
that I don't even use and that would
make life way easier with work orders.
Learning how to Add notes to the grid.
That was kind of a cool trick.
Change the color of the homes on the grid.
It's kind of cool.
I can see ways that we can use that.
So there's a lot of little tidbits
that you take for granted in huge
Yeah.
That's great.
Guys, one last question.
I didn't prepare anybody for this
question, so if you don't have anything,
it's okay, but what kind of homework
are you guys taking back to your
offices or to your jobs every day that
you think you're going to be doing,
going back, like, okay, I'm going to
go back and Here's a piece of homework.
I'm assigning to myself
from the from the summit.
Does anybody have any of those?
I'll be definitely reaching out to
all the partners I'm working with.
And of course, getting with Jackie here
next weekend, Katrina, and we're kind of
working through a PSM workshop together
to kind of implement a lot of the ideas
that I know we took away from this.
So my strategy is definitely to reach
out to those individuals that couldn't
attend that I'm working with and share
what I kind of learned from this as well
so they can feel and be a part of it.
And I know I've been communicating
quite a bit with polar as
to what I've been learning.
So, therefore, she can start implementing
things at Costco University for
future markets that may be joining.
That's right, I'm going to come at it from
a completely different angle for sure.
What I am going to start working on.
Tonight is just some kind
of introspective stuff.
The reason that Raina and I hopped
on board with Casa Go so excitedly
and emphatically was the community
that it has built around us.
Our market is very small.
It's full of cannibals.
And that has caused me to really
shift my primary mindset to
one that's kind of a fear based
mindset, which isn't natural for me.
And I don't like living there.
I don't like being in that mindset.
So realizing that I Do we do not
just brand and I, all of us as part
of the family have that community
around us and then how to reframe
kind of those conversations inside
our own personal relationship.
But our business relationship as
well was incredibly empowering.
That's right.
Piggybacking on Scott again.
I think that.
The tidbits that I learned in the
classes that were new to me, I'm
definitely going to be bringing it back
and either sharing them with partners
that weren't able to be here or with
other people on our team that work with
our partners on a day to day basis.
I mean, I learned some really cool
things in the owner acquisition class.
I learned great things in the branding
class and all of these things, there
was just little pieces of it that
I just want to make sure that get
communicated and like, And resignate
with somebody else, not just myself.
So that'll be my goal to make
sure everybody gets a little
piece of what I learned.
. Well, I guess I'll finish software . I
think for me, my big takeaway was I
got to sit down with Michael Rubin, the
new GM of Streamline, and spend about
30 minutes, maybe 40 minutes with him.
You know, I was pleasantly surprised.
He listened to my
concerns . He didn't deflect.
He took full responsibility, . They'd
actually gone through our account
and looked at the open tickets.
Where Pilar and the team is trying to
support our partners and not getting
answers back from streamlined support.
And like, we've got work to do and they
made a commitment to work on it and
just a really open mindset to having a
discussion and not a defensive culture.
It was, it was really a pleasant surprise
and I was, I was really happy with that.
So that's my big takeaway from it.
Guys, thanks for joining on the
podcast and being part of this.
Really appreciate everybody.
And yeah, we'll see you guys at VMA.
Thanks everybody.
