Welcome to Pacific Time, where host Greg Amrofell—a relentless provocateur who has lived his whole life up and down the West Coast—invites you to imagine bold solutions. We explore how to make the West Coast better if it's undistilled by the faltering American experiment..

Each episode features meaningful conversations with thought leaders, innovators, policymakers, and visionaries. We’ll tackle the big questions of sovereignty, and self-determination, imagining and sharpening the West Coast’s cultural identity, economic potential, and environmental leadership.

Pacific Time is for the intellectually curious, the disillusioned optimists, and the dreamers who refuse to accept that status quo in America is the best we can do on the West Coast. Here, we cut through the partisan noise and welcome transformative ideas from a broad spectrum of iconoclasts. We ask how we can work together to elevate the West Coast and get past the narratives that marginalize us “Out West” on the “Left Coast.”

It’s time to reimagine what’s possible. Let’s ask, “What if…” and find out.

Greg Amrofell:

What if there was a podcast for the West Coast by people on the West Coast that incorporated conversations with experts and visionaries putting forward ideas for how to make this place we love better? Would you feel heard? Would you feel excited? Would you feel hopeful? Hi.

Greg Amrofell:

I'm Greg Amrofell, the host of Pacific Time. Pacific Time is a podcast that's focused on the idea of West Coast sovereignty. If you, like me, have felt marginalized and disillusioned by the national political scene, and you're looking for a way to ground that in this place that we love on the West Coast, this is the podcast for you. Personally, I'm done being angry and disappointed about national politics in faraway Washington DC. I think it's time to figure out what we can do for ourselves to make our situation on the West Coast better and to have fun exploring the possibilities.

Greg Amrofell:

Pacific time is not the time for griping about Donald Trump. This is gonna be a show about ideas and speculation and asking the what if questions that lead right to the optimism and hope that's at the heart of what we love on the West Coast. As someone who grew up on the West Coast and has lived basically his whole life here, I have a deep affinity for this place and the people here up and down the coast. And watching the last three elections where the West Coast vote basically didn't count really irritated me. Watching the country slide toward a set of values and beliefs that I don't think are in keeping with the promise of America or the promise or ideas that people on this coast hold dear, that's why I decided to create this podcast.

Greg Amrofell:

As a listener of Pacific Time, I'm gonna ask you to imagine answers to the questions that start with what if. What if is a super interesting angle on exploring the tensions between growth and conservation, between the most efficient way to transport people and goods and the way that's most environmentally sustainable, The way that can create the industries of the future, but also take care of the people working in those industries. These are the kinds of explorations that we need to really lean into that really are gonna call on our creative thinking and energy. And then from there, we can start talking about how we make it happen. I can't wait to bring you into those conversations.

Greg Amrofell:
