The government has launched a new occupational health taskforce to help tackle long-term sickness and waiting lists. The taskforce will develop a framework to help employers better understand and harness the benefits of occupational health.
Only 28% of employers in Britain provide some type of occupational health. Large employers are almost three times more likely to provide occupational health than small-medium enterprises.
The Scottish Government is continuing to harness the power of digital technology and data analytics through the next phase of its Seer platform. Seer 2 will use cloud technology to increase access to new tools and technologies with greater flexibility.
Seer is a core part of Scotland’s data strategy, which the health secretary, Neil Gray, confirmed will be updated this spring.
A new study has shown that a digital platform can significantly improve speech for people with aphasia. A six-week study at University College London found that using the iTalkBetter app for 90 minutes a day could help people’s ability to name commonly used items.
Currently, the NHS provides around 12 hours of speech and language therapy for each patient. The UCL study was funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research.
