Good morning and

welcome to Morning Cereal.

Okay good morning and welcome to Tuesday.

And if your coffee hasn't kicked in yet,

well maybe your gut has

because today is go with

your gut day.

Now that's just a reminder to just trust

that inner compass you have.

But really only do that if your gut has a

history of good decisions.

Well today's quote is from Bruce

Springsteen who said quote,

"When it comes to luck, you

make your own."

And I'll just lay it out for you here.

Success is less about random chance and

it's more about being

proactive with your actions,

hard work, and strategic planning that

create your own opportunities.

Alright well today's news, facts, and

birthdays are for September 23rd.

We're going to start back 1806, that's

when Lewis and Clark,

they returned from St. Louis

from their trip.

Then in 1846 on this date, the planet

Neptune was discovered.

Then moving all the way up to 1957, the

song That'll Be the Day

by Buddy Holly and the

crickets, great band name by the way,

well it reached the number one spot.

And then finally on this date in 1962,

ABC's first color TV

series, which I kind of find

hard to believe but we're just going to

go with it, it was the Jetsons.

Well it premiered on this date, 1962.

You've met George right?

Well happy birthday to

you, today's your birthday.

You share a birthday with Marvel actor,

Falcon, Anthony Mackie, he's 46 today.

The boss himself, Bruce

Springsteen, he's 76 today.

Actor of old Mickey Rooney, he was born

on this date in 1920.

Role legend, Ray

Charles, born this date in 1930.

And good old Typhoid Mary, she was born

on this date in 1869.

You can look it up.

And now the number one song on this date

back in 1990 was

Release Me by Wilson Phillips.

Now this trio, they followed up their

smash debut single, Hold

On, with the Release Me

track and it became their

second Hot 100 number one.

Even though the song sounds a little bit

lighthearted, it's about

yearning for closure and freedom

from well a painful past in this case.

And speaking of letting

something go, people, we did it.

We finished Stephen R. Covey's The 7

Habits of Highly Effective People.

I didn't even let you know yesterday

because I didn't want you

to get caught in a downward

spiral.

But Covey's book, it's often described as

a guide not to quick

fixes but to principled

living.

Remember he frames the journey in terms

of moving from

dependence to independence to

interdependence, right?

It started off in the private victory

with Habit One, which was be proactive.

Covey emphasized between stimulus and

response, man has

freedom to choose, end quote.

And we're not bound by

circumstances, right?

We can decide our

actions and our attitudes.

That's where Habit Two came in.

Begin with the end in mind.

And it was asking us to imagine the

legacy that we want to

leave and to align our daily

choices with that vision.

Then we moved into Habit Three, which was

put first things first, right?

It's time management, redefined a little

bit, focusing on what is

important but not urgent,

right?

Such as

relationships, those are important.

Growth is important.

And long-term goals, okay?

Then we moved into the public victory,

which flows naturally

when you've mastered that

self-discipline, okay?

Habit Four, think win-win.

And it encourages abundance, believing

there's room for everybody to succeed.

Then Habit Five, seek first to

understand, then to be understood.

It's about listening with

empathy before speaking.

Then Habit Six, synergy builds on

differences, not in spite of them.

And as such, we can create results that

are greater than

individuals could have achieved

alone.

And then finally, we just finished up

Habit Seven, which was sharpen the saw.

And it ties everything

together this last habit.

Covey explains renewal across four

dimensions in that,

physical, mental, social, emotional,

and spiritual.

And Covey said, "We must never become too

busy sawing to take

time to sharpen the saw."

Now without balance,

effectiveness will dwindle.

The genius of this book was how habits

build on one another, from

self-mastery to collaboration

through renewal.

And Covey's final reminder was that

effectiveness, it isn't

about hacks, but about principles

that endure.

All right, here's

your last Covey takeaway.

Effectiveness isn't a one-time win.

It's a lifelong journey of growing from

self-mastery to meaningful

relationships that are renewed

daily.

All right.

So today, trust your gut and

take a step toward that dream.
