Welcome to today's podcast.
Today, Sunday, we begin a new portion, Shmini, chapter nine. Shmini is a rich portion that unfolds over time, especially during the Passover holiday. It's so dense with meaning that we sometimes experience it up to eight times in a single year.
The seven days of consecration that laid the groundwork for the events of Shmini started on the 23rd of Adar, culminating on the 1st of Nisan, a day marked by ten special events, all noted in historical records for their significance.
The Mishkan, or tabernacle, and later the holy temple, stand as beacons of otherworldliness in our reality. They embody the concept of transcending nature, which is symbolically represented by the number eight. This is why the miracle of Chanukah, with its eight days, resonates so deeply within this theme.
On the opening day, the first offering made was a young calf. This was not by chance but a deliberate atonement for the sin of the golden calf. On this pivotal day, every offering was an obligation, a step towards inviting the divine presence to dwell amongst us here on earth.
Thank you for joining today's brief exploration of the portion Shmini.
