[00:01:01] This week I, officially adopted, my last two cats. I think. last week I talked about how we had some cats. Come over our wall. We have a compound here in Yucatan, Mexico on the beach, and they just showed up. We got one, we got all three, fed medication and fixed, and everything so that we could adopt them out.

[00:01:25] And we did get, the little boy kitten and it was a tuxedo cat, adopted out to a very loving family in nearby big city, Merida. Yucatan and we got him some photos of him with his big brother who's also a tuxedo cat. Shown him all the ropes and as they say, and having a great life.

[00:01:44] So we're very happy, that worked out. The other two, mom and the daughter, are still needing some help, it's now been two months and we've fallen in love with them, so we're not gonna be adopting them out. We are keeping them. So [00:02:00] fostering to a forever home adopting cats in Mexico is, pretty easy.

[00:02:05] You just keep them, here, there's no license or anything like that. We do have a little collar with the names on them, just to make sure that if they do go over our fence, which they can. They're outdoor cats. They don't want to be inside. In fact, the mom really doesn't like being inside. We've tried it and we'll make sure that any of our neighbors know that these are our cats.

[00:02:28] So it has our phone number on it, their little tag, and everything's the best we can do with them. We've been trying to get them used to being inside, but the outside backyard is pretty nice for them. Of course, it's a big, huge patio that's really deep shade. And there's a pool and there's a palapa, and then there's the Gulf of Mexico.

[00:02:49] So they got a great view and they're, very happy and we've just fallen in love with them. And so at this point we're keeping them. I'm actually recording this in Puerto [00:03:00] Adventuras, which is four hours away from where I live over here in Quintana Roo. And we gotta get a pet sitter, someone local.

[00:03:07] They live five minutes away, to, keep tabs on them and the house, and everything as they're staying there, making sure everything's okkie dokie. And, but, honestly, just didn't think the situation would work, for cats. But they're outdoor cats and they like being outdoors. And they are Mexican cats as well, so they're tough.

[00:03:29] My daughter's cats in the US wouldn't make a day probably here at all. A little bit too rough for them. But, these guys, these young ladies, even the mom is under a year old. Are doing just really great. We've been told from, some local friends that, this setup is actually really great for them.

[00:03:49] They're happy and so that's what really want and it for them, and it's just nice to have them around and pet them and whatnot. We live outdoors a lot, we have furniture [00:04:00] outdoors, and everything. We get to, hang out with him. Quite a bit. So I just think living in a foreign country still surprises me six years later.

[00:04:08] More than that now, that something like that would happen. So very good end the story on that.

[00:04:15] Now on to some expat news there of course, now the hurricane season starting here in the Caribbean and Mexico on both coasts of Mexico on top of it, and you get expats who are trying to do the right thing by posting in local expat groups every time there's a numbered system, not even named yet. And it's, irritating. I find it a little bit, annoying because, 99.9% of 'em aren't gonna get near me. And it's just getting a lot of drama for real nore soon. Now. Yes, I have had it happen here in Yucatan. Over in Yucatan, on the coast. I've had to evacuate twice, and go into Merida actually to wait out the storm.

[00:04:59] [00:05:00] And we still got it in Merida as well. But I got a link and you can check out the show notes for all the links here about the National Hurricane Center. It's a US government, agency that has all the satellite images and projections, and I just look at that on occasion, especially if someone mentions it.

[00:05:19] I'll go there instead of read the drama news, about it because they find that quite honestly, a lot of it is just not accurate. So I just go directly and look at the projections by the people that have the supercomputer and the satellites. So link in the description.

[00:05:39] Ecuador has also signed an international agreement for peaceful exploration of space. I find it interesting that all a lot of these countries that really aren't known for that space exploration. Are signing on to making sure space is sustainable and peaceful, exploration of the moon and beyond.

[00:05:58] And then I got an [00:06:00] article someone wrote about the American Dream has moved overseas. A lot of people are moving, overseas, moving to foreign countries, not necessarily over the sea, but next door, like here in Mexico.

[00:06:13] Because they feel like they have more freedom than they do back in the US or Canada or even some parts of Europe. And in some regards that's true. I just don't think a lot of people should do it, without thinking it out of what it really

[00:06:29] means.

[00:06:30] And expat is a way different style of life.

[00:06:34] I, for one, love it and it's one reason I have this newsletter. And podcast. But it was a good article I thought about, how a lot of people are moving overseas to feel more free.

[00:06:46] In Mexico, believe it or not. Mexico has won some wine awards recently. Yeah. There's some wineries here, in Mexico that are extremely old, actually, like 500 years.

[00:06:58] So they have [00:07:00] gotten down to, producing decent wine. And because of that they did win some awards, but, because of that they're gonna be hosting the Wine World Cup in Mérida, which I live nearby. In November, I got a link, to an article about that. It is in Spanish. But that's pretty cool.

[00:07:19] And also due to the US safety downgrade, Mexican airlines have lost a billion dollars U S D, recently. And we've actually noticed some Mexican airlines not being as, not unsafe necessarily, but on time and cutting service if there's not enough people on the plane and things like that.

[00:07:43] And I think that's stemming from this. So just be aware if you fly a Mexican airline that, it can be a little chaotic on whether it actually takes off or not. Just because they're trying to save money, because they're losing money.

[00:07:56] Some people moved to Mexico, for the freedom, like I talked about [00:08:00] earlier, and, and some of them do it, for weird reasons, where they wanna get away from.

[00:08:08] People that are LGBTIQ+ communities, thinking that you won't have that in Mexico. I have an article, where it actually was about 5% of Mexico population belongs to that community. You're not gonna get away from it here. There are people here like that and, maybe even more so than the US.

[00:08:28] I don't really know. But, that's not a good reason to leave and come to Mexico. Moving to another country isn't really gonna solve that for you.

[00:08:41] The super peso, we're getting quite honestly, a horrible, translation rates, from USD to Mexican peso.

[00:08:49] Right now our money is not going as far and they call it the super peso. And I have an article about who wins, who loses, and how long this is gonna last. It's a little, [00:09:00] don't really know for sure, but you can read an article about, about all of that.

[00:09:04] Again, Yucatán once again recognized this is Mexico's safest state. It's also the safest area in Latin America and safer than the US Actually, it's the only place else in all of Americas, that's safer is Quebec, but it snows there and it doesn't here.

[00:09:21] There is an LGBT Tourism Total Pride March in Playa del Carmen, where I used to live. I'm actually pretty close to it now.

[00:09:31] Here in Puerto Adventuras, that is gonna gather roughly 10,000 people. When I used to live there, it was amazing how the town just filled up with a lot of people that were just happy to be able to express themselves the way they are. And so it's growing and growing. It's now up to 10,000 people

[00:09:51] And the UK has issued a travel alert, for 10 Mexican states. Got a link in the show notes to that. And it's areas that, quite honestly, I agree with [00:10:00] them. All of Mexico isn't great. Yucatan is very safe. It's gotten the state and Merida have both gotten, written up for that. But there's parts of Mexico that are not exec friendly and that article list that, and I don't really have an issue with that. They're pretty right on.

[00:10:19] Actually, and that is it for today's episode of Expat News by Expat Rebel. Thank you so much for joining me. I appreciate it.
