3 Hamster Boys

In this episode of the Three Hamster Boys Podcast, brothers Alexander and Nick, along with their dad Jeff ("Jeff the dad"), sip their way through moonshine cocktails made with Hilltop Distillery's blackberry moonshine (from Goochland County, VA) while debating the most iconic cars in movie and TV history. Across three drink-and-talk segments, they mix a peanut-butter-whiskey "PB&J" shot, a blackberry lemonade, and a pineapple-chili "Southern Spice" cocktail — rating each along the way — while covering car picks ranging from the Flintstones' foot-powered stone car and the Magic School Bus, to the 1966 Adam West Batmobile, the Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo, Herbie the Love Bug, Stephen King's Christine, the anime racer Redline, the DeLorean from Back to the Future, and the Regalia from Final Fantasy XV. It's a laid-back mix of local spirits tasting and nostalgic pop-culture debate, with genuine father-son banter throughout.

Alexander:

Hello and welcome back to another episode of the three Hamster Boys podcast. I'm one of your hosts, Alexander, joined by my brother Nick.

Nick:

Hello.

Alexander:

And, our father Jeff.

Jeff:

Jeff the dad.

Alexander:

Jeff the dad. Welcome back y'all. Today's episode, we're talking about cars and drinking moonshine. All horsepower. Well,

Jeff:

we figured, you know, with moonshine it would make sense that we're talking about tax evaders and g men and all that stuff. Woah.

Nick:

I feel like we could have

Alexander:

done an episode on like the the most iconic outlaws or something That

Nick:

would be cool.

Jeff:

But so, but moonshine is I always think about, you know, the the moonshine runners from like the Appalachians and stuff like that.

Alexander:

I thought you were gonna say you remember back to the time of prohibition.

Jeff:

Yeah. When I was younger and prohibition was around

Nick:

Well, my my my mind went to like fuel alternatives. Because like the joke is just like, you know, you you know, your tractor runs out of gas, you just top it off Yeah.

Jeff:

Yeah. I mean, all make sense.

Nick:

Yeah. But

Jeff:

as we were talking about this beforehand, we are not car guys.

Alexander:

Yeah. I do think it's important to kinda put prefaces at the beginning of the episode. We are not car people. We're not car guys. We don't know anything about your souped up Maserati.

Nick:

But like, we're not gonna be talking about real cars, but like, our choices will reflect that like, we don't know like what good cars are. Right? I think that might be the consensus. Yeah.

Jeff:

We're gonna be picking things that are interesting not actually Yeah.

Nick:

Yeah. That's

Alexander:

true. I think we all went with like kind of iconic cars in media Yeah. Rather than like the fastest coolest car.

Jeff:

Yeah. We're we're we're not Yeah. We're not doing the Well, yeah. We're not doing a lot

Nick:

of those.

Alexander:

Yeah. Alright. But before we get talking into cars, I wanna start drinking because I think this is gonna be a long shoot especially with what we're drinking. Yeah. So, Nick, lay it down for us.

Nick:

So we took a trip over to Hilltop Distillery and enjoyed many of their fine moonshines and Whiskey. And whiskeys. Their whiskeys were very very tasty.

Jeff:

It's a very very small small place.

Nick:

Yeah. And we had I think the person serving us was the owner. It was the owner. Yep. And she was very lovely to talk to.

Jeff:

And she

Nick:

was the only one. And she was the only one there. And we were the only ones there. We we we caught her at like a a moment of quiet because it sounds like it gets a little busy

Alexander:

gets a little rowdy.

Nick:

Yeah. But they have their moonshine product, which is the Gooch Hooch. It It's because they're in Goochland.

Jeff:

Goochland County. Yeah.

Nick:

And we tried their other a few of their other moonshines, but apparently, the blackberry, which is the one we're drinking, is their their flagship. It's the one that makes the most moves and stuff.

Jeff:

And once again, we confused the heck out of her by going, we don't wanna taste it. We wanna Yeah.

Nick:

We had their blueberry and apple pie and they were spectacular.

Alexander:

I I do think we almost offended her by not trying

Nick:

it in front of her. She was like, you gotta you gotta try it. And we're like, no no no no. Please.

Jeff:

Please. But the I love the blueberry one.

Nick:

The blueberry was so good.

Jeff:

I think you really like the apple pie.

Alexander:

I like the apple pie one.

Jeff:

And the lemon one was really good also.

Nick:

That's right. There it was a lemon it was just lemon?

Alexander:

I think it was a lemon chest.

Nick:

Yeah. It

Jeff:

was good.

Nick:

It was very good.

Jeff:

And the the whiskeys were good too, so

Nick:

Yeah. It was a good time.

Alexander:

Great time.

Nick:

So, I'm very excited to taste this one, the blackberry. Just as you know, I like to start off with a more control to begin with to really try and taste the alcohol itself while not just doing shots well this is a big shot We're we're the the hamster household is on an ice shortage. We would have been drinking on some ice, but currently not available right now. It would have been on the rocks. And what we're drinking is a PB and J cocktail because I'm like, blackberries.

Nick:

So, I picked up some peanut butter whiskey and that's it.

Jeff:

Will tell you, if you look It's at the bottle

Alexander:

little at its finest.

Jeff:

There's not much in there. Yeah.

Nick:

I basically went through the whole bottle for tonight's episode. So Yeah.

Alexander:

We're we're more prepared though. Yeah.

Nick:

We we live through the gin.

Alexander:

Should be on the rocks, but Yeah. So, with with that out of out of the way, as we're drinking here, talking about iconic cars in media. I think we'll kind of push the line of what a car is. We were having some back and forths.

Jeff:

Oh my god. This is gonna be a bad episode. No.

Nick:

Oh, my god. Oh, no. It is really good. I could have made a double for each of us after that one. So Oh,

Jeff:

my gosh. That was extremely good. Initially, you're not sure what you're tasting? No. But then the the flavors are come Yeah.

Alexander:

No. You really do get both the peanut butter and the blackberry and it really does let it does feel like you're drinking a peanut butter and jelly just without the bread. Yeah.

Jeff:

That's that's a with beer?

Nick:

I was

Alexander:

really No. That's incredible. That that is really nice. And unfortunately, lends itself to how dangerous this episode is gonna be. My god.

Alexander:

Because

Jeff:

Oh gosh.

Alexander:

Our our mother had a sip of another one of the cocktails we'll be drinking later and she went, oh, refreshing. That's not

Jeff:

a good sign.

Nick:

Not a bad sign because I knew how many shots I put in that one.

Jeff:

Anyways, that is Oh, god. I'm tasting that peanut butter. That peanut butter is really good too.

Nick:

That is splendid. Yeah.

Alexander:

I Oh, man. That's really good. Yes. I will say, as a as a control, it we maybe should have done shots, because I feel like this blends too well with the peanut

Nick:

butter seamless, unfortunately. Yeah. It's almost I I can definitely get the full blackberry.

Jeff:

Well, one of the things we've said before is that we've sometimes tasted stuff that we thought was going to be a stronger fruit flavor. Yes. And we've been disappointed because we didn't get that kinda like that crab apple cider. We really wanted more of the crab apple cider

Nick:

in it. Yeah.

Jeff:

Yeah. Crab apples in it. This has a distinct blackberry taste to it.

Alexander:

It's true.

Nick:

And I that's what I was hoping Yeah. Because we tried their other moonshine and there was such a like a very apparent

Jeff:

because like the blueberry one, it could have been weak a weaker blueberry, but it was a very distinct

Nick:

Super potent.

Jeff:

Distinct blueberry. Is that's

Alexander:

What what I will also say is kind of on the the tip of my tongue lingers that blackberry flavor. Yeah. It just kinda stays there, which is nice. I I I'm not really opposed to that. It just makes drinking it very nice.

Alexander:

I could see us sitting down and just sipping a glass of this, preferably I think on the rocks.

Nick:

Yeah. But,

Jeff:

I would also be

Alexander:

nice to say.

Jeff:

You could put with like club soda to kind of

Nick:

dilute it making a more bubbly.

Jeff:

Like a spritzer or whatever.

Nick:

Yeah. High ball thing.

Alexander:

Yeah. Do a do a eyeball. Alright. Anyway Yeah. Wow.

Alexander:

Great start in terms of the drinks.

Nick:

A dangerous

Alexander:

Yeah. Yeah. Let's see if, dad, if you can follow that up with a great start in terms of the cars.

Jeff:

Well, since it's the beginning, we're gonna go back to prehistoric time.

Nick:

Oh, wow. Far back. Really really not

Alexander:

the early model t.

Jeff:

No. Not the before that.

Nick:

Before cars? Yes. Before cars.

Alexander:

Before cars,

Nick:

we're talking about cars.

Jeff:

We're gonna be cars. This is Fred Flintstone's car.

Nick:

Fred. Yabba dabba doo.

Jeff:

Yabba dabba And I as a child So number one is to think about this. This was a cartoon that was not a Saturday morning cartoon. This was What? A regular cartoon that was done like The Simpsons. Oh.

Jeff:

This was an adult cartoon that was during regular time. So this show was not meant for kids.

Alexander:

It was meant for adults.

Jeff:

Meant for adults. Oh. Simpsons.

Nick:

Interesting. Yeah. So, that's a lot of times with people because it's like family values kind of thing.

Jeff:

It's in the sixties. Sixties. It was in So, it was kind of, you know, Brady Bunch was also at the same time.

Alexander:

Yeah. Wait. So when did it play like late night?

Jeff:

Yeah. No. It did like so For yeah. From eight to eleven is prime time. Oh, That's when it was on.

Jeff:

Was on during prime time. So the so think about that. But anyways, we got a chance to stay up and watch it. It was in the eight to 09:00. So if you're It was it was crazy.

Jeff:

On the way the three networks did is from eight to nine The three networks. Was for everybody. From nine to ten, it was a little bit more adult and then after 10:00 it was really adult. The Wild West. Yeah.

Nick:

You have you have

Jeff:

things like Dallas and Hill Street Blues that were more adult

Nick:

shows. Never.

Jeff:

Fucking crust. Anyways, so the reason I picked this one is because when you're a kid this is how you drove all your buggies, know. You had your feet down there doing it and they got to do all this stuff and I'm just like, he's wearing he not has bare feet. He's doing all this stuff. Yeah.

Jeff:

He's running around and whatever and I just said for for total ludicrousness of it that you have this stone car that's being pushed by feet that are like going all over the place and whatever.

Alexander:

I will say it it is very iconic Yeah. Too in the fact that like when you say the Flintstones car, you immediately think of like the gag of them like, alright gang, let's hop in the car and then they all put their feet down, stand up and just run.

Jeff:

The worst part about is that as it as the show got longer, it added more characters.

Alexander:

Yeah. The worst part?

Jeff:

Well, the reason I got not the worst part, but the reason what what all these sitcoms do is that they add characters on it. So, you end up having like the not a minivan, but a microbus Yeah. Car Right. They have

Nick:

to expand.

Jeff:

The station wagon and all this stuff.

Nick:

Yeah. So Yeah. Think is also

Alexander:

a fun idea. Does the Flintstones car have a name or is it just the Flintstones car?

Jeff:

It does not have a name. Okay. I tried to find one because I was like, there should be a name for yeah. But it was so they they did so that the microbus or camping bus did have a name. It was like the flastonium or something.

Alexander:

Oh, okay.

Jeff:

But but other I can't remember exactly, but they That one did have a name, but I but I decided not to pick that one.

Nick:

Yeah. Okay.

Alexander:

They went with the classic family

Nick:

sedan.

Jeff:

I figured we'd start off with, you know, simplest of cars.

Nick:

The stone age.

Jeff:

Yeah. The stone age.

Alexander:

Alright, Nick. Are you bringing us into the bronze age You know, I think era wise, I actually don't, you know, I I The Flintstones are the sixties. Right? Sixties?

Jeff:

Yeah. I

Nick:

then this must have been the eighties. I'm I'm choosing a another classic American show. So one that in classrooms you probably participated in the spectating of for educational purposes while the teacher just did whatever they wanted to or the sub was in. I'm of course referring to miss Frizzle's magic school bus.

Jeff:

The awesome I feel like

Alexander:

we haven't talked enough about the magic school bus on this podcast, and I'm happy you're bringing it in.

Nick:

I think we mentioned We've mentioned it a couple of times. When we

Jeff:

were talking about your

Nick:

Oh, we were talking

Alexander:

about the the submarine episode. Yeah. The the aquatic vehicle episode. Yeah.

Nick:

Gotta gotta bring it back for, you know

Jeff:

this is a normal trip.

Nick:

Yeah. Yeah. Please, Chris. No way. God, it's such a classic and, know, as we stated, we're not car people.

Nick:

So, a bus is a car. A bus counts. For for the for for tonight. Yeah. And if you don't believe me, drink a bottle of the the blackberry.

Alexander:

Yeah. Have a couple of shots.

Nick:

And then, I think everything will be okay. I know, I think the the Magic School Bus is is such a wacky and wondrous thing. I think it it does capture like this air of like, especially like as a kid, like those early cartoons where you're just like, man, if if that was real or like if if I was in that, you know, kinda kinda state, you know, because you're, you know, it's very fantastical and it's like, it can time travel, it can shrink and you know, it can go anywhere you can imagine was like the thrill of it.

Alexander:

It it it does kind of bring a sense of wonder to field trips Yeah. In the fact that you're like, oh man, I wish our field trips were like that. That would be so cool.

Nick:

Let's say we're going to Jamestown. Yeah.

Jeff:

Well, or like where we live, in order to get anywhere, you're be on a bus for two or three hours. Yeah. Unlike the magic school bus, it's like

Nick:

Well, they cut the black.

Alexander:

And I

Nick:

was about to say, there's there's a couple

Alexander:

of historical landmarks around us that you can get to real fast.

Nick:

Yeah. Monticello.

Jeff:

But I mean, if you're going to like the Washington

Alexander:

Zoo Right. Yeah. I mean, that's gonna

Nick:

be You're hanging out for a while. Yeah. Playing on your DS card.

Jeff:

Yeah. No. Your Game Boy.

Nick:

No. No. Well, your Our DS because we're going those local lobbies and everyone's a shy guy except for one person. Yeah.

Alexander:

Wow. That's nostalgia. Holy cow.

Nick:

It's that era, you know?

Alexander:

Alright. I'm I'm keeping up with the theme of kind of older media, which I think is strange for us. Normally, we're doing a lot more relevant Yeah. Or up to date media. But of course, I'm referring to the 1966 Adam West Batman.

Alexander:

What are

Nick:

we doing?

Jeff:

Not the tumblr.

Nick:

Not the two thousand and eight, nine. No. Not the Nolan.

Alexander:

Yeah. No. Not the Christopher Nolan.

Jeff:

And not the the the long sleek one that the first of Batman.

Alexander:

Yeah. I I know what you're saying. And here here's what I'll say. I I I wanted to talk about the Adam West Batmobile because it is so different than a lot of the Batmobiles we think about.

Nick:

Isn't it like a convertible?

Alexander:

It's a convertible. Yeah.

Jeff:

It is a convertible because it's so they could jump in and out of it when it

Nick:

convenience thing, I get it. It's based off

Alexander:

of like a a Lincoln some car. It's I don't know. Again, not cars. But, it it is a convertible. It does have the black and it's got kind of like a red trim.

Alexander:

Yeah. It just looks so different than what you really imagine the like

Nick:

two wings on the little

Jeff:

rocket out the back of it. Yeah. But it it fit it fit the character and the mood

Nick:

Absolutely. Everything

Jeff:

about the show.

Alexander:

Oh, yeah. Well, absolutely. And I think you can talk about the representation of the Adam West Batman versus our more modern interpretations of Batman and where it's been in, especially in visual media here. But I think the the big thing, the reason why I wanna talk about the Adam West Batmobile is the fact that it looks so different. Because when we think about the our modern kind of recreation of Batman, it's this very utilitarian, very sleek, very like tank almost in the fact that it's fully covered.

Alexander:

It's gonna be bulletproof, missile proof. Sometimes, it can turn into a jet too at the same time.

Jeff:

I think it's it's also we often talk about DC not keeping the darkness of the comics a lot of time. Yeah. And I think that when the Batman movies have been successful, they've had that darkness. And I think that this the TV series went the exact opposite way on that. Yeah.

Jeff:

It said, we're just gonna be totally outlandish about all of this.

Alexander:

Yeah. I will say, sometimes the campiness really comes through and it's really endearing. Yeah. Like Arnold Arnold Schwarzenegger as mister Freakiest.

Jeff:

Oh, with

Nick:

Batman forever George Clooney. George Clooney? Yeah. Is that George Clooney? Yeah.

Nick:

Yeah. Or was it the Michael Keaton?

Jeff:

Michael Keaton was the first two. So bad.

Alexander:

But I I will say that sort of campiness, I think is a little endearing.

Jeff:

I just thought it was mixed up.

Alexander:

Yeah. But I'm okay with something like that, where it's not too dark. Like, it's not trying to be super dark Right. Detective comics. It's trying to be fun, campy, superhero movie.

Alexander:

Cameo. Yeah. With cameos and you're like, this is just silly and I'm having Critics

Jeff:

hated that movie.

Nick:

Yeah. They don't like it. They don't like anything that like doesn't fulfill their rubric. Okay?

Alexander:

Yeah. That's right. But even even in that movie, right, that Batmobile is still in this sort of, you know, tumbler kind of like Yeah.

Nick:

Yeah.

Alexander:

Look to it.

Jeff:

It's the long sleek.

Alexander:

The long cylinder sleek. Yeah. Pitch black. Yeah. The pitch black.

Alexander:

Minimalist, lack of color. And then, when we look at the Adam West version, it's colorful, it's loud, it's a convertible. Yeah. Like, it is silly and it fits what the TV show was going for. And I kinda love that, honestly.

Jeff:

I I do too. Mean, I think that the reason Adam West is still in our vocabulary today is because of how unique

Nick:

and how different it was. Think Adam West is still making it in my top three Batmans. Like Yeah. You know?

Jeff:

I I I think so too, just because he played it so straight. Yeah. And it was just so Here's

Alexander:

the thing. For every comedian, you need a straight man. Yeah. For every like comedy, you need a straight man. And if you are the straight man when the world is the comedy, it's perfect.

Nick:

Yeah. It's great.

Alexander:

It's true.

Jeff:

Yeah. And he did he did a great

Nick:

job. And it fulfills like the Batman like stoicism that he always has. Yes. But the he's just like in la la land, you know? It's just like, you know?

Nick:

He's the he's the one person in the town that always sings that doesn't sing. Right. You know? That's like how it is. And it just feels very magical.

Nick:

Like, everyone is like, you know, vibrant colors, boy wonder in red and yellow and green, and he's just like pitch black. You know, and he's just like, of course, it's in my utility belt. You know, it's it's just like, you know, I think it it's so charming for what they do.

Jeff:

Yeah. I Yeah. I agree. It's just awesome.

Nick:

Yeah. You know, I I was trying to think of

Alexander:

another kind of like DC or like Batman related sort of vehicle that would be interesting to bring up. And I feel like no one really like has even like superheroes in general, like when we look into the MCU, and I don't really see anything that's like unique or or interesting.

Nick:

It's just like the Wonder Woman invisible jet. Yeah.

Alexander:

Invisible jet.

Nick:

But like other than that, like no one really has like a a vehicle.

Jeff:

Right. Well, I think you If you look at some of like the secondary ones, they have unique

Nick:

Sure.

Jeff:

There there's like Also, I also think that the villains have the funniest

Alexander:

was about to say, you know, sometimes Harley Quinn's got some some fun rides

Jeff:

Riddler has What does the Riddler have? Yeah. What what does the Riddler have? He has He had a What was it? It was like a three wheel cart or something like that.

Jeff:

He's got a trike?

Nick:

Yeah. Tricycle?

Jeff:

It was like really Yeah. It's really strange or I don't know. It's If you read the comics because in the seventies, I was reading all these comics.

Nick:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff:

And you would see them and you go, that's a that's a weird car for him to drive. But Yeah.

Alexander:

Yeah. The only thing that I could think of was in more modern kind of iterations. The first Suicide Squad, Joker had that purple Lamborghini and they made a whole song in the album for it. That's true. And that's it.

Alexander:

But I didn't even think that was that interesting.

Nick:

No. No. Like, think

Alexander:

the song was the best part of the

Nick:

vehicle. Rick Ross. Yeah. Exactly. I think the songs were the best part.

Nick:

No.

Jeff:

Yeah. The songs were the

Nick:

best part of the movie. Yeah.

Jeff:

I did like that soundtrack. But anyways.

Alexander:

Yeah. Well, yeah. Our drinks

Jeff:

I can't believe we finished that.

Nick:

Oh, my god. That was I really had to push through.

Alexander:

Yeah. This is gonna be this episode. Well, our drinks are empty. We're gonna get our second drink or second cocktail and talk about our second cars. We'll see you all in a second.

Alexander:

Don't go anywhere. Later. Hello and welcome back. We have got more drinks in front of us and for our audio listeners, this is the correct way to drink moonshine, I think. We got them in mason jars this time.

Nick:

A lot more to drink. There is a lot more to drink. I'm trying to keep everyone hydrated. Yeah. So, first one was a lot less liquid but a lot more alcohol.

Nick:

This one is a lot more liquid and less alcohol. So, this is just our wonderful Blackberry Moonshine with lemonade.

Alexander:

That sounds nice.

Nick:

Just supposed to be a very refreshing, easy to drink thing. And I I've been saying this since I was mixing the cocktails. This blackberry just melts through everything color wise. Like, every one of our drinks is just red Yeah. Or like darker.

Nick:

Yeah.

Alexander:

We were saying while you were pouring it, we could have done a a vampire episode Yeah. Instead because of how red a lot of these drinks are.

Nick:

Looks like we're drinking a lot of blood tonight.

Alexander:

Very watery blood. Cheers. Cheers. But yeah, I think the other thing that we were saying while we were transitioning was how much the blackberry really stains your mouth and stays in your mouth. Even after a short break, I'm still tasting that blackberry in my mouth.

Jeff:

Your mouth will be refreshed. My God. Strong.

Nick:

I put two shots in in this thing and filled it up with lemonade and the blackberry still cuts through I

Jeff:

mean, get the tartness of the lemonade. You can feel that tartness, but the blackberry is not shot.

Nick:

It's so apparent. I could have made this one the control as well. Yeah.

Jeff:

I am missing the ice cubes. Yeah.

Alexander:

No. But, this one for sure. You're sitting out on the back deck on a hot day. This of this. Yeah.

Alexander:

You're just drinking through this.

Jeff:

Yeah. Unfortunately, two drinks and I'm halfway

Alexander:

through Yeah. The Mason You

Jeff:

you down Don't give me a straw.

Alexander:

I know.

Nick:

One of those small cocktails

Jeff:

Yeah. This this is Yeah. I will definitely say that, once again, this one just hits the spot. Yeah. I think, this this blackberry, she said this was her best one.

Jeff:

And I am I love the blueberry and I know you love the apple pie, but Yeah. Man, this is

Nick:

The apple pie would have been fun to play around.

Jeff:

Yeah. I agree with that too. But this is really beyond my expectations for what I thought the blackberry was gonna be like.

Alexander:

Yummy. No. It it it is delicious. And yeah. And like you said, the lemonade, I assumed it would would be a stronger taste in this drink.

Alexander:

Yeah. But you really get the the tartness of the lemonade. You get a little bit of that that taste in the beginning and the blackberry just kind of like shoots through. It's good.

Jeff:

It's good. It is easy to drink.

Alexander:

It it is very easy to drink. It Yeah. It is scary to think that there are two shots of moonshine in here. Yep.

Nick:

What is the proof on this by the way? 40?

Jeff:

Yeah. I don't think it's that much.

Nick:

Yeah. 40. Oh. So, it's 20%.

Alexander:

Oh. It's easy.

Nick:

But the whiskey was 80. Alright.

Alexander:

Yeah. We we started with the bang and now we get to kind of like coast through.

Nick:

Yeah. Teeter off a little bit.

Alexander:

Yeah. Perfect. Alright, Nick. What is your second car here?

Nick:

I think I will stay in that era of classic American cartoons.

Alexander:

Oh,

Nick:

gosh. Another one that we have talked about and is as iconic, if not more, I will be talking about the mystery machine from the Scooby Doo series. I think it that is a vehicle that has seen everything, you know? Yes. And I think what's really charming about it is we talk about all of the redesigns of the the the back of the Batmobile.

Nick:

Uh-huh. Like how they always like change up the iteration and like, you know, there's so much like expression on like how they handle like what what it looks like in, you know, each Batman. But for every single Scooby Doo, it's the mystery machine always looks like the mystery machine.

Alexander:

The forever constant.

Jeff:

Truly. That in the Ascot. Always there. But I mean That

Alexander:

is true.

Jeff:

And it's a design that truly is depicts the era of the sixties. Yeah. Yeah. You know? But, you know, it's it's stuck through, you know, sixty years now.

Nick:

Yeah. It's got those psychedelic markings. It's got the wheel on it and it otherwise, it's just like a little like angular. Yep. And then two seats and an open back with nothing in it.

Nick:

It's great. It's perfect. It's perfect. You know, I think I think a lot of kids were just like, that's the car I want when I grow up. You know?

Alexander:

I mean, that's definitely the car that I wanted when growing up. Especially when I was like, man, you could camp in your car. Right?

Nick:

It's like Or you could just sleep in the back

Jeff:

of It your

Alexander:

really is one of those things where it's like, it would be nice if I had a mystery machine of my own.

Nick:

Yeah. I mean, it's it's like supposed to be one of those like vans. Right? It's like

Jeff:

a utility van.

Nick:

Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff:

That they customize it. They're just cool.

Alexander:

Yeah. They're just cool.

Jeff:

I mean, you know, nowadays you

Nick:

see van life where they're taking sprinters and whatever. Yeah. It's true.

Jeff:

So this is just what the vans look like in the nineteen sixties.

Nick:

I I will

Alexander:

say, yeah. This is like one of the few cars on the list that's like doable. Like you could have your own mystery machine if you wanted to.

Nick:

And people do. And people do. Yeah.

Jeff:

I watched this guy and he always would would help people buy cars.

Nick:

Okay.

Jeff:

And so he would show them three cars and then the person would decide what they want.

Alexander:

Oh, it's like property brothers Yeah. But with cars?

Jeff:

With cars. And this guy's a comedian but he collects cars. And he had borrowed the mystery van.

Alexander:

The mystery machine?

Jeff:

Mystery machine. Sorry.

Nick:

From Warner Brothers?

Jeff:

Yep.

Nick:

The What do you mean no? From Freddie? From Shaggy?

Jeff:

This is a they had designed one for the series.

Nick:

For the live action?

Jeff:

Oh. For the series.

Nick:

What series?

Jeff:

The cartoons.

Alexander:

Oh. So they made a real van for the cartoon series.

Jeff:

As like a prop. What? To advertise. Anyways

Nick:

with the production. Yeah. How do you clear that? Why? Yeah.

Nick:

It's like, budget team. It's like, oh, the animators are asking for a real life van to customize.

Jeff:

Anyways, he he was in California. So, he drove it to a shop. No. And was like handing out Scooby Snacks out

Nick:

of the shop. Sure.

Jeff:

Yeah. So, it's like, it just it's iconic.

Alexander:

Yeah. It it really is iconic and I think a part of that is the show has been long running for so long. Yeah. It's everyone's childhood.

Jeff:

Yeah. How many generations of children Right?

Nick:

Exactly.

Alexander:

Batman to an extent, but with the push towards making Batman darker and darker Yeah. You don't get that to the same extent.

Jeff:

I mean, you think about this. The cartoon came out in the sixties. The first live action was what? Nineties? 2 thousands?

Nick:

For

Jeff:

It's for Scooby Doo.

Nick:

Like the movie?

Alexander:

Yeah. Yeah. It's like early two thousands

Nick:

or

Jeff:

early So two thousands. I mean, think about that. It took forty years to do the live action

Nick:

on Which crazy.

Alexander:

Actually, will say watching it from like a fan perspective going from like the cartoons to the live action. Terrible. Bad experience.

Jeff:

Well, okay. We've about live action in But

Alexander:

what I will say is revisiting it as an adult who hasn't really been watching Scooby Doo, great experience. Yeah. It's fun. This goes back to to like the campiness and like the silliness of a movie not taking itself too seriously. Kinda great.

Alexander:

I like it. Alright. Yeah. Alright. I'll I'll go next.

Alexander:

Still sticking with an older piece of media, which is insane and

Nick:

I I don't know for it. We've never done this.

Alexander:

Maybe newer media just doesn't have cars. That's not true, but That might

Nick:

be true.

Alexander:

It doesn't hit the same. But, I am of course going with everyone's favorite lovable VW bug and that is Herbie.

Jeff:

Another sixties thing.

Nick:

Yeah.

Alexander:

Wow. Well, okay. I will say sixties, sure. But I think when I watched it, I watched like the 2005 rendition

Jeff:

Lindsay Lohan. Yeah.

Alexander:

Lindsay Lohan. Yep. But, yes. There are older renditions

Nick:

of it.

Jeff:

I mean, because I remember watching Herbie in a drive in in the early seventies.

Alexander:

Which is great. I love that for you. That's cool. No. That that feels like the most appropriate place to be watching a movie about a sentient car.

Alexander:

Yeah.

Nick:

In a car.

Alexander:

Is in a car in a drive through. And then you're you're getting back into the driver's seat going, are you gonna

Jeff:

Are you at me, Harvey?

Nick:

Are you mad at me?

Alexander:

But yeah, everyone's favorite sentient car. One of those other kind of pieces of media that spans over multiple generations. I think there were three total renditions of Herbie and it was like sixties, eighties, two thousands.

Jeff:

Yeah. But the original one I think had three versions also.

Alexander:

Okay.

Jeff:

It's like Herbie, Herbie rides again and then Herbie goes to France or something crazy like that.

Alexander:

Oh, they're doing the air bud series with Herbie apparently.

Jeff:

This was in the sixties.

Alexander:

Right. Yeah. So Yeah. Very iconic car. I think the fact that it's a sentient car, but not a robot alien monster.

Nick:

You talking about transformers? Like the transformers. Yes. I thought about transformers.

Alexander:

I was thinking about it too and I wasn't A

Nick:

little disingenuous.

Alexander:

Oh, I wasn't sure if it fit because they're like an alien race. They just look like cars.

Nick:

They can just camouflage. Yeah.

Jeff:

Well, so, what are you When you think of autonomous cars, there's also There was a thing called Knight Rider in the eighties. You guys are gonna pick it out or not. But this was I

Alexander:

don't think I've seen it.

Nick:

It's a Yeah.

Jeff:

We would

Nick:

do that.

Jeff:

It's a Trans Am that has this light that goes back and forth and the car talks to the driver David Hasselhoff.

Nick:

Oh. Great. Wait. Can't believe they actually have seen this. Never mind.

Nick:

There's actually a chance.

Jeff:

But anyways, but that was the you know, all of the sentient cars actually come from the Herbie thing.

Alexander:

Yes. Yeah. It does feel like Herbie's that that beacon of sentient cars.

Nick:

The progenitor.

Alexander:

Yeah. The the progenitor.

Nick:

Well, when when did Stephen King write

Jeff:

It was in the eighties.

Nick:

Hey. Alright. Yeah.

Alexander:

And I think

Jeff:

But that'll come up in a second.

Nick:

Oh, no. I spoiled it. I apologize.

Alexander:

What I was gonna add to Herbie is I think out of the cars on the list here, the fact that it's a VW Bug means it's like one of no offense to Bug Gunners, one of the ugliest cars on the list here. It's not really one of those like very attractive cars and that's part of the storyline is being like

Jeff:

Nobody loves me. Yeah. Mean that's what it is. It's like the way the original one started was that no one loved the car.

Alexander:

Well, yeah.

Jeff:

Junkyard and the characters like, oh, this is wonderful. And they're like, the junkyard deals like, oh, you can have it. Nobody likes those cars. Because initially when they were made, the VW Bug, it was a cheap, easily deconstructed and repaired car that Volkswagen, the people of Germany could use. But it was reliable, but it was simple.

Alexander:

Was this entire franchise just an advertisement from Volkswagen to sell more bugs?

Nick:

Oh, so did you choose a real car? Sentient. It's alive. You gave me a brand.

Jeff:

It's it's alive. Yeah.

Nick:

Because I'm gonna pick a real car.

Jeff:

No. It's not real.

Alexander:

Anyway. I thought Herbie was far enough from being a real car because the the selling point of Herbie is that Herbie is the car and it's alive and it has feelings and thoughts.

Nick:

But it's a VW bug. Yes.

Alexander:

Alright. Alright. That's that's enough about VW bugs. I think I've said that several times. What dad, what what's your what's your last

Jeff:

So, I get to pick the next real the real car. So, we're just talking about Stephen King wrote a book called Christine. And the reason this is funny is because my wife, their mother is named Christine also. And as all Stephen King books are, they're not upbeat and pleasant like Herbie Anyway Lot of parallels. Yeah.

Jeff:

Of your mother and the car?

Nick:

Oh, no. No. Between her

Jeff:

and Anyway, so this is a 1955 Plymouth Fury that supposedly has evil spirits in it.

Alexander:

Oh. And he Very classic Stephen King.

Jeff:

And the car falls in love with the owner. So, there's this connection between the owner

Nick:

The owner Jeff.

Jeff:

The owner Jeff. Yeah. I don't know what the guy's

Nick:

name was. So, it could be Jeff. It could be Jeff.

Alexander:

There's a That'd be weird. Steven King wrote this book about you and mom.

Jeff:

So, anyway, so what ends up happening is the in its need to protect and and is jealous of the owner whenever he dates someone, the car kills her.

Nick:

Okay. That's an issue.

Jeff:

Or if someone bullies him That's an issue. If someone bullies him, the car kills him.

Nick:

Oh, okay.

Jeff:

So, the car is very protective and in the end, the guy can't get out of the car because the car wants to keep him all the time.

Nick:

Right. Yeah. The original Yandere.

Jeff:

Yeah. It was so what was weird about it

Nick:

was this is So, this is the original Yandering.

Jeff:

So, there's there's not At this time in the eighties, there wasn't a lot of Stephen King novels that were coming out as movies.

Nick:

Sure.

Jeff:

But this was probably not a a well known Stephen King novel that ended up being a fairly successful movie I

Nick:

was gonna say, I didn't even realize

Alexander:

they made a movie about it.

Jeff:

Yeah. I mean, I read a little bit of Stephen King in the beginning when he first started putting books out, but this was not one of the ones that was on that I'd that I'd ever heard about. But anyways, it was fairly popular. Very weird. You know, very

Nick:

it does feel a little outlandish for the current climate.

Jeff:

Yeah. It You had so many weird movies in the eighties that this was kind of It fit into that kind of idea.

Nick:

Yeah. But, I feel like it could have been like thrown away to like the b movie wayside with like a lot of those kind of things.

Jeff:

Yeah. I I think it it it I I would consider it a b movie. Mhmm. The only reason it has any kind of sachet I guess is because it is a Stephen King

Nick:

But

Jeff:

in general, would say that this this is a movie that I don't even see it on streaming networks right now, you know. Don't see it. I've never seen it replayed and it hasn't been in the, oh, this is the same as it or whatever else from Stephen King, you know. So this is one of those ones that they made because

Nick:

Cause they could.

Jeff:

They could.

Nick:

And they Someone thought it was a good idea. A director went, I wanna script that.

Jeff:

Yeah. I mean Yeah. So, a 1955 Plymouth Fury becomes sentient and evil,

Alexander:

you know. Just weird. So, if it's inhabited by evil spirits, does that mean the car itself doesn't love him? It's just the evil spirits inside that I

Jeff:

was I only watched it once and I was like, this is not worth

Nick:

Yeah. Catching.

Alexander:

Okay. My second question then is, does the car kill these other women in creative ways or is it always just like

Nick:

They get hit by a car.

Alexander:

Yeah. She's walking down the street.

Nick:

She gets hit by a car.

Jeff:

You know what? This is what I always think about.

Nick:

Christine pulls a gun out. Stuffing them in the trunk.

Jeff:

The lens The headlight comes down and it's a machine gun.

Nick:

Oh. I saw Jason double o seven. It's a James Bond car.

Alexander:

I am surprised we haven't heard a James Bond car.

Jeff:

No. We talked about it in the Submersive true. I I stayed away from James Bond. But anyways, but the We all did. But anyways, but I think because of the error and what was acceptable for a movie, it's more like Alfred Hitchcock where the car revs and then the next scene is

Nick:

The implication.

Jeff:

The lady laying on the pavement or whatever. Unlike today where you would see, you know

Nick:

Yeah. Got impact.

Jeff:

Full And all that stuff.

Alexander:

Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff:

But, anyways, it was it never was intended to be a good movie. I think it was just intended to be a car slasher movie.

Nick:

Yeah. One of those thrillers.

Alexander:

Car slasher Yeah. Movie is I I mean, that's kind. Yeah. Truly.

Jeff:

But anyways, yeah.

Alexander:

Alright. Well, our drinks are not quite done except for Nick who just downed his.

Nick:

It was good. I talked first, so it was easy to

Alexander:

are good. And I I think the conversation is is running dry. So.

Jeff:

We will do one thing. End of the second part.

Nick:

Oh, he loves it.

Alexander:

Oh, yes. Yes.

Jeff:

Of course. We I'm

Alexander:

gonna drink mine while you're talking.

Jeff:

Yeah. We love to hear ideas from you guys. So please comment anything that you'd like us to talk about. If there's a a distillery, brewery, winery in Virginia that you think we should try, go ahead and put a comment down there. Also, like and subscribe.

Jeff:

Whether it's in your podcast stream or whether it's in YouTube, we would love to hear from you. Love to see that you're following us. But anyways, that's what I've got to

Nick:

say. You did this plug in.

Alexander:

Well, thank you all so much. We are headed to the third and final segment. We'll have one more cocktail and one more car. We'll see you all in a second. Thanks.

Alexander:

Welcome back to the third and a final segment here. Hope you had a nice intermission. Maybe got some snacks in the meantime. Just kidding. We're editing it all together, so you have break.

Alexander:

What

Nick:

are we drinking here?

Jeff:

Hold on. Before you go, here's what's crazy about this. We talked about that this was staining things, So the glasses were rocking a little bit. It actually looks like lipstick on the side

Nick:

not from Yeah. I don't think that's from

Alexander:

the the drink itself. Think it's from the garnish. Yeah.

Jeff:

Oh, okay.

Alexander:

But it also does kinda look like tannin if you're drinking a red wine.

Nick:

Yeah. A little bit. For our final cocktail. This one doesn't have a name. It just was like an assorted.

Nick:

I just looked up moonshine cocktail and it's like boom, moonshine cocktail. So I'm calling it the southern spice. Oh, I like that. Because it's got a little bit of a surprise garnish as we were just talking about. We have our lovely moonshine.

Nick:

We have some pineapple juice. And then it's topped off with some club soda to give it a little bit of that bubbly that we were just saying could go well with it. And then for the spice part, some chili powder.

Alexander:

Oh. Okay.

Nick:

A little bit of a dash of chili powder. Just to give it give it something, you know.

Jeff:

Give us some some. Kick

Nick:

have no idea what. I I think you can be a little bit liberal on what you sort of kick you add to it. I did just did did a chili, but I'm sure you could do another one. Maybe like a habanero. Might be an interesting, but some sort of

Alexander:

Wow. That's great. The

Jeff:

the blackberry and the pineapple goes so well together.

Alexander:

They do.

Jeff:

I just think that that tanginess goes together and although the chili powder is not overbearing No. I am feeling it tingle on my tongue

Alexander:

Yeah.

Jeff:

As I'm talking. Yes.

Alexander:

Will say, I do think I thought that the lemonade and the blackberry would go well together, but the blackberry and the pineapple juice have really gone together. Wow. You got a little bit of that bubbliness from the club soda a

Nick:

little flat while we're recording.

Alexander:

It has gone a little flat, but I honestly like it this way. Where it's not too bubbly. I can still kinda drink this real easily. And then, yeah. Like you said, you get a little bit of that that kind of like spicy tingle on the tip of your tongue.

Alexander:

Yeah. But it's not it's not too much. It's not overpowering.

Jeff:

You almost kind of if you were gonna if you really wanted it to impact you, you could do like Szechuan peppers, where you get the numbing sense.

Nick:

That'd be crazy.

Alexander:

That would be insane actually. Hold on.

Nick:

It would like it would make it feel like you're you've eaten a lot of pineapple. Yes. You know, you get that like acidic you know.

Alexander:

I was gonna say like some jalapeno or you mentioned habanero. Yeah. That could be nice.

Jeff:

Because this is just straight chili powder.

Nick:

Yeah.

Alexander:

Or, I mean, like, you used chili powder. Yep. Cayenne. Cayenne. Could've could've gone well in here as well.

Alexander:

Yeah.

Jeff:

Or my chili powder with lime.

Alexander:

Sure. You know? Or that too.

Nick:

Adding more citrus wouldn't hurt.

Alexander:

Oh. Yeah. Actually, lime might go well with this too.

Nick:

Yummy. Wow.

Jeff:

Yeah. There have been no losers in this

Nick:

never is.

Alexander:

I didn't anticipate honestly. I will say, props to Nick here, but I think all of the cocktails we've had have been phenomenal. It's only when we try something that's really weird and out there that we're like, oh, that was not it actually.

Nick:

I think for the cocktail, I'm like, I get a little bit of a feel. Like, I'll like look at the ingredients and be like, no. Yeah. No. We're not doing

Alexander:

that. Yeah. No.

Jeff:

No. But I think you've got a really good eye for how it's gonna taste.

Nick:

Yeah. I you know, I I always try to make a variety, know, to like push it a little bit. I think I've I've gone for a lot of refreshing drinks. Although, honestly, the PB and J was the most out there because I'm just like, this is just alcohol. Yeah.

Nick:

Oh my gosh.

Jeff:

It's a martini.

Nick:

Oh, yeah. Honestly, yeah.

Alexander:

Yeah. But I will say the flavor profiles were all very different. At least, they they were all like easy drinking and refreshing, but you got like that p b and j with the peanut butter in the beginning. You got like a spiked lemonade in the middle here. Now, we've got kind of like a club soda drink with a little spice on top.

Alexander:

Yeah. I think all of those were different ways to kind of accentuate this blackberry

Nick:

But for real though. This that that blackberry just cuts through everything. Literally everything. Like, I don't know what I would do to actually truly cut through it, you know. Because like, I'm not using weak flavors.

Nick:

I used a peanut butter whiskey. Yeah. I used lemonade and then I've used pineapple juice. Yeah.

Jeff:

You could go the other way and do like simple syrup and make like a a blackberry cotton candy kind of I

Nick:

am actually I don't know. I do not think that would be good. I'm not prepared for that. I don't think it I don't think it never I don't think it needs to be sweeter.

Alexander:

Oh, that that's exactly my thought too is, I like sweet things, but I don't think it needs to be sweeter. No.

Nick:

I think it's really good as a more tart, you know, experience.

Jeff:

But that's I mean, that's how you would counteract it.

Nick:

I suppose. Just like lean into a different angle, transform it. I don't even think I wanna think about

Jeff:

that right now.

Alexander:

Holy cow. So instead, I'm gonna talk about my third and final car, and this comes from something we've already talked about. In fact, it comes from a movie I made both of you watch. I mean, Nick had already seen it, but I made both of you rewatch, which is Red Line, The fun anime racing movie that has like very like sci fi intergalactic planet racing, speed racer esque. Yeah.

Alexander:

Like death games while you're driving. And I think what kind of accentuates it more is the main character, sweet j p, is driving a I mean, don't even know. In the show, it's considered a Trans Am 20,000, but it's basically just like a souped up muscle car.

Nick:

Yeah. Which

Alexander:

I think speaks volumes to one, the aesthetic of of this sort of like muscle car leather jacket, big hair, switchblade The Yeah.

Nick:

Like heavy greaser vibe.

Alexander:

Yeah. Heavy greaser vibe. And I think the car kind of sums that up perfectly in terms of really fitting that aesthetic. Not only kind of like the nostalgic vibes, but also just like the the the really that greaser vibe that you

Jeff:

if you look at like grease that that that's the vibe that that you're getting. Absolutely. But then they redo it like with Johnny Bravo.

Nick:

Oh, yeah. Yeah. High Palbindor.

Jeff:

Yeah. So but so but that's not a that's not a young series. I mean, when did that come out? Oh. 2000 line?

Alexander:

Yeah. I think it's 2008, but I'd have to double check on that

Nick:

one. Okay.

Jeff:

Think it's around that. So, it's really not it's not it's not a more it's not a recent one.

Alexander:

Once again No. It isn't a super recent one.

Jeff:

Once again, going back, it's been really difficult to find

Alexander:

Yeah. More more up to date things.

Nick:

Modern cars just don't do it. Yeah. Also,

Alexander:

you know, again, to reiterate, we've already said this. We're not really car guys. Yeah. So They don't

Nick:

know. We

Alexander:

know. They don't know. So I think when we're thinking about a lot of these cars that we that we think are are iconic or kind of like influential, a lot of them have to do with like nostalgic memories Yeah. For sure. Like the the mystery machine, the magic school bus, Herbie, even like Christine.

Alexander:

Yeah. Was gonna say Adam West, Batman,

Nick:

the Flintstones. Yeah. A lot a lot That's Christine Theodomy. Yeah. Christine Theodomy

Alexander:

here. But a lot of these are kind of touching on that nostalgic vibe of looking at a car and going, man, that's cool or that's like really memorable.

Nick:

Yeah.

Alexander:

Yeah. And I think in terms of that, Red Line does a great job of world building these really unique and interesting cars. They do a good job of taking time out of the movie to highlight the racing team, whether it's like a duo that's racing or just one person racing, they highlight them as well as the vehicle that they drive. And all of the other vehicles are wild and sci fi like and kinda out there. Like, one of the ladies drives basically like a boat that's also a car at the same time.

Alexander:

Man, I could have talked about that for the the water one. And some of the other ones, like, one of the guys, he's like literally the car.

Nick:

He is the car.

Alexander:

He is the car. And then one of the duos, they're like using magic which also exists in this world somehow.

Nick:

It's true. That's how they they scouted the planet Yeah. Made the track. Right?

Alexander:

Yeah. Exactly. So there's a bunch of these like really fantastical, really sci fi vehicles. And then JP is just an greaser who drives his souped up sports car and just wants to drive fast.

Nick:

It is kind of like an American made it to space. No. You know, from a What does he have? He's got charger. You know, it's like

Alexander:

No. Exactly. He's got a a Mustang and he's just gonna he's just gonna go. Yeah. And literally, throughout the series, it goes back to this vision of opulence that that JP is chasing.

Alexander:

Yeah. Rather superficially here, where his like idol is just a guy who's got like a fancy fur coat and he's got half naked women on this convertible super long. Yeah.

Nick:

Takes like a fashion walk down the hood to get, you know.

Alexander:

Exactly. But like, it's this this sort of like opulence that he's he's striving for on the surface and that's that's sort of the aesthetic that he wants to is he wants to seem cool. He wants his car to seem cool. His style to seem cool while not being like over the top or having to rely on these other technologies. A lot of the other racers soup up their cars to have like weapons and like safety features and JP doesn't want that.

Alexander:

He's just

Nick:

like pedal to metal, we put a bomb in the bag.

Alexander:

No. Exactly. That's it. And there's something really endearing and very fun about that, where you kinda wanna root for him because he just is that guy.

Jeff:

Just wants to race.

Alexander:

He just wants to race. Yeah. Yep. And I I really like the car too. I think it's a fun car.

Alexander:

It's clean. Yeah. It is clean. It gets blown up so many times in movie.

Nick:

I think the scale of the car is always something to think about as well. Yeah. Everyone's drawing driving like these gigantic like machines.

Alexander:

Oh, yes. That's a good point.

Nick:

And, he's just like this like, it's it's a normal sized normal sized a car. Car. But just compared to everything else around him. It just like looks so small.

Alexander:

Yeah. Everyone's driving basically like Yeah. Yeah. Monster trucks times two. And there's there's several shots where because he's driving a normal sized car, he's like weaving in and out of these these cars.

Alexander:

Like he's driving in between their wheels because they're driving these massive battleships. Like me

Nick:

driving on 81. Exactly. I get it. I know exactly how he feels.

Alexander:

I I get it. He's me.

Nick:

He's me. He's driving and there's all these truck drivers around me. We're all going to Buc Ee's. I get it. I get it.

Alexander:

Cool. So that that's my piece. I think I'll probably talk about red line some more at some point. Yeah. But it's just so fun.

Jeff:

So I'll go next. Yes. Yeah. Please. I've There's a bunch of muscle cars I could have

Nick:

selected. Oh.

Jeff:

So like

Nick:

You're going as a but

Alexander:

I'm not. Oh. So so

Jeff:

like Mad Max, the Avenger that Max? That Max drove.

Nick:

Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff:

That was a that's an iconic car.

Nick:

I thought you were gonna say the semi.

Jeff:

No. No.

Nick:

But like With the water in it? Yeah. Yeah. With the water.

Jeff:

But then also it could be like more fictional like McQueen from Cars.

Alexander:

I was gonna say Tom Mader was on my honorable mentions. Oh.

Jeff:

So there was a bunch of people that I could have selected. I decided to go with with my roots of the eighties and I went with the DeLorean.

Nick:

You're just staying in your

Alexander:

He's staying in his lane.

Jeff:

We're driving. So, the DeLorean from Back to the Future.

Nick:

Marty. Yeah, Marty. Marty.

Jeff:

We have to go back. What you guys don't realize is when that car came out, it was it was kinda like the Tesla pickup truck. People looked at it and went, that's crazy.

Nick:

Oh, the Cybertruck?

Alexander:

The Cybertruck truck.

Jeff:

Yeah. And the car never sold.

Nick:

Really?

Jeff:

And the DeLorean actually Didn't have a butterfly doors or whatever? It did have butterfly doors. Never sold. It was way too heavy because it was stainless steel.

Nick:

Oh my god. You'd kill everything else. And

Jeff:

DeLorean, I I believe the way it goes is that he was caught transporting cocaine.

Nick:

In in

Jeff:

the I think it was in the bulletproof. Yeah. So he ended up He getting was getting bankruptcy and he got arrested and went to jail and all this stuff, but the company went out of business literally a couple years after it was done. Yeah. Is that my phone again?

Alexander:

No. I don't know.

Nick:

Just keep going.

Jeff:

Yeah. Okay. Sorry. My my so but for that card to be useful Mhmm. Is contrary to to what it really was because no one had them.

Jeff:

I think they sold like 200 of them.

Nick:

Were they like really expensive?

Alexander:

They were expensive. Think They were stainless steel. I guess.

Jeff:

They were they were way heavy. Just like buy a tank.

Nick:

Yeah. Buy

Jeff:

I mean, was just it was never it was just not something that people were buying at that time.

Alexander:

Yeah. Tanks?

Jeff:

Tanks. Well, I mean, it just

Nick:

it it I guess every car was made out of stainless steel in that area.

Jeff:

Well, Not really. But it was What were they made out of? Aluminum cans. Yeah. But anyways, but I think that it was just so different than what all the other cars were and they never did.

Jeff:

And then to to be used in this movie, that was the joke.

Alexander:

Oh. It was meant not as an ad but more of

Nick:

a like a Look what I got. Yeah.

Jeff:

Yeah. What or like a from the future

Nick:

like this is good.

Jeff:

That's what he says in line. In a DeLorean?

Nick:

Yeah. Okay. So it's it the whole it was like a butt of the joke to start with. Yes. And it's just like, Marty, I made a time machine in a DeLorean.

Nick:

He's like, what are you? Are you you're actually an idiot. You got a DeLorean?

Jeff:

No one else has got these things. Wow. So that was so I think that that's lost when people rewatch

Alexander:

I was about to say, that was totally lost.

Nick:

I don't know the context on that.

Jeff:

So, no one had a DeLorean. No one used a DeLorean. No one drove a DeLorean. Yeah. So, I mean, these are these are basically, you know Paperweights.

Jeff:

Museum pieces Yeah. Really. And that that was part of the joke with it.

Alexander:

You know what? That is that is funny because I think if someone made a Back to the Future style movie with a Tesla truck.

Nick:

With a cyber truck? Yeah.

Alexander:

Yeah. The the joke would be

Nick:

It would be the

Alexander:

same thing.

Jeff:

You know what? Or you could do and you're not gonna get the references, but there was a Ford Edsel in the fifties.

Alexander:

The Edsel. I don't even know what a Edsel is.

Jeff:

So Ford thought this is a revolutionary design for their car. No. It was it's gonna be great. It's like $57.58. Everyone's gonna buy it.

Jeff:

Nobody bought it.

Nick:

No. Oh.

Jeff:

That was ugly. So every time you hear about cars not being successful, the Edsel is a is one of the

Alexander:

It's on

Jeff:

the of

Nick:

it. Wow.

Jeff:

So, but yeah. The DeLorean is one of those ones that just never made it.

Alexander:

Rough for the DeLorean because I think it it became a centerpiece in the back to the Future movies.

Jeff:

Oh, yeah. It was a centerpiece and it was That was part of the joke. Yeah. If you grew up in the eighties, you would you would know that joke.

Alexander:

Yeah. I think the unfortunate thing is and maybe fortunate for DeLorean here is that it made the car seem cool for everyone who didn't have that true.

Jeff:

Yeah. I mean, if you if you're looking twenty years later, you go, oh man, that's a stainless steel car with

Alexander:

butterfly With butterfly doors. Yeah.

Jeff:

And it can go into the future.

Nick:

The past.

Jeff:

I can go go 88 miles. I I

Alexander:

do think the unfortunate thing is that butterfly doors became like a luxury item.

Nick:

Mhmm.

Alexander:

And so people are like, oh, it's gotta be good then if it has butterfly doors. It's true.

Jeff:

Yep. That's I mean, that's why he did it because at that time, I guess it was a Lotus and things like that were

Nick:

when

Jeff:

I did butterfly doors.

Nick:

That makes sense.

Alexander:

Better cars. Alright, Nick. Round us out here. What do we got?

Nick:

So I'm staying in the eighties. Oh, no. No. I'm not. I'm not.

Nick:

I'm not. I am going for the most modern experience. What? I am going to I believe it's 2017. Okay.

Nick:

2017. Okay. Final Fantasy 15. Woah.

Alexander:

Which This one's the last one, I promise.

Nick:

It's not even. 16 came out. Nope. Yeah. I know.

Nick:

Final Fantasy 15. The selling point or or one of the allures of the games, the game was you are in a team of four with You're you're a prince of this like nation and you gotta go meet your fiance and so you're taking three of

Alexander:

your guards and you're doing a road trip.

Nick:

And that's basically the premise of the game. And you do it all in the regalia, which is this super sleek I I looked it up. It's a combination between the Cadillac CL and the Maybach Accelerum. Alright. So it's this like extremely extremely luxury car.

Nick:

You know, the lore is just like, oh yeah, your dad had one of these, like the king of the nation has one of these as well. So it's like the prince's vehicle is is what you you ride around in.

Jeff:

It's air force two.

Alexander:

Yeah. Basically. You

Nick:

you don't know how right you are. Throughout the game, you can customize it into a sleek purple to in ivory white to just a pitch black ebony to a bunch of other things and you get tune ups like the focus is the car Mhmm. While you're doing it. And it's it's like a very it's a luxury car. It's so clean.

Nick:

You hear the engine, it purrs. I really, know, toss my my flowers to the game at the the sound design because it makes the car feel like so immersive in these like very open plains because that's mainly the environment. It's just like roads and then just wilderness and like landscapes that you just drive through. Nice. Like the point of the game what is to just drive around in the regalia.

Nick:

Yeah. And like see whatever. And they they really want you to do it because they have all 14 full soundtracks of every single final Final Fantasy game in the car.

Alexander:

Yeah. You know, not this one, not this one.

Nick:

So, it's like, oh, I need to go listen to Sephiroth's theme from Final Fantasy Oh, actually, I'm moving to Lightning's theme from 13. Yeah. You know, like, you They have it all, and they're all in the regalia. And like, it's it the opening sequence of the game is like the car is broken down, and it's what's what's that song? When the night has come.

Nick:

Right? And it's just you and your three your three boys just pushing the car down this like open road to nothingness. And like the regalia, like you can customize it and tune it up, like you can give it monster truck wheels to put it like like, off road. And it's so it looks so stupid, but you're like, yep, we're doing this now. We're off road.

Nick:

Like, it's like, oh, get back into the car, and you're like, like, reaching reaching up, because it's like it's like a Cadillac frame on monster truck wheels, you know. And it can go convertible and it's really nice and then it's like, oh, also you've unlocked the jet feature. And you can fly the Regalia is so cool. It's it's so That's such

Jeff:

a cool concept. I didn't I have I know nothing about the the Final Fantasy games.

Nick:

Don't worry. This one is different. Basically, none of them have relevancy to each other. You can play all of them in their own space. Mhmm.

Nick:

It came out at like a very good time, I think, for it, where it was just like extremely atmospheric. And like, the characters are really cool. Like, they really like thrived and it's like the four people you're with are the ones you care about the most and like that is the core of it.

Jeff:

I mean, it's the the whole road trip thing has always been kind of Always fun. Always fun. People like enjoy enjoy doing that. It sounds like more of a fun game which is never how I've heard Final Fantasy described. That's like a buddy game.

Nick:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Final Fantasy is I think a lot of Final Fantasies are just like the stakes are at 12.

Nick:

We gotta go. Yeah. And I think 15 was like a very like relaxing change where it's just like, we're just taking a trip and like a lot of it is just like very open landscapes and like a lot of the charmingness is like, oh you have Gladius is the driver. You have Ignis who's the chef who like reads books, know. And you have Prompto, your your guy, who like takes pictures of like all your outings.

Nick:

So, you have like a You have like a journal of all the pictures.

Jeff:

Sounds like One Piece.

Nick:

Yeah. Listen. One Piece

Alexander:

is pretty good. Well, One Piece is pretty good.

Nick:

And then you have Noctis, the character you play, the prince, who loves fishing. It's just like, it's like very vibes based, is is how it is. Because you because Final Fantasy, like every game is all about the scale. Yeah. You know, it's like all about the size of the world and all of the centerpieces and landscapes and whatever is in there.

Nick:

And it's like, oh, we're like driving past this giant, you know, like corpse and you know, skull skulls and just like, you know, like zooming around on the regalia.

Alexander:

Oh. I I like that a lot. I I might look into that. I've been playing Final Fantasy 14, the m m m o. Oh.

Alexander:

I've been enjoying that a lot. It's good time. It's because I rewatched Log Horizon and I just wanted to play

Nick:

an Hop in an MMO.

Alexander:

And I wanted to do some one that had a good crafting and gathering system. And I saw a lot about Final Fantasy 14 having some good stuff there. Yeah. And it's right. I mean, it's got like a class system dedicated to crafting and gathering, which feels nice.

Nick:

That's I think that's the allure for me for for 14 where it's just like, you play as one character, but you can do it all. You can do everything.

Alexander:

Yeah. Oh, you can play a healer, but then you can also just switch to fisticuffs, and then you can also switch to magic if you want. Yeah. It feels nice.

Nick:

Yeah. Centralized.

Alexander:

Yeah. Alright. Oh my god. I'm the only one who hasn't mine. Boo.

Alexander:

Boo. Alright. While I'm finishing this, dad and then Nick, let's talk about our favorite drink of the night.

Jeff:

This is a tough choice, but I will say the peanut butter and jelly is my favorite. I just It just It hit a spot that's so different than most drinks do it. Yeah. I love the lemonade. Yeah.

Jeff:

This one was probably my least favorite but not because of because the other two were so good.

Nick:

Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff:

But I I definitely think the peanut butter and jelly was my favorite.

Nick:

Yeah. I agree. I also think the I don't think we we rarely choose the control to be honest. Yeah. Although, I think we did the mint julep

Jeff:

Yeah.

Nick:

With that that coffee one. That was just so classic. But I I I mean, PB and J and I was just like, oh my gosh.

Jeff:

How did it how did

Nick:

it just like without like any effort truly, just two shots of the moonshine and one shot of the peanut butter whiskey, and I'm like, God, it tastes too good for how simple it is. It's too easy. It just The first sip I was like, how are you actually capturing the feel way closer than I ever could have imagined? But I agree. I think unfortunately this one, it just had no identity, is like how I would describe it.

Nick:

It's like, it's a good drink, but I'm like, I don't know what you're going for.

Jeff:

I I mean, I think that's why we we started going well, maybe Szechuan pepper or jalapeno. Looking for

Nick:

for different ways too.

Jeff:

And I also think that missing the bubbles, I would have I think the bubbles would have helped that out.

Nick:

Made it a little bit more of highball kind of thing.

Jeff:

Yeah. Or you could put Sprite in it to give it

Nick:

like a lemony taste to it. Oh.

Alexander:

But, boys, I got bad news.

Nick:

But, boys, he liked it.

Alexander:

This was my favorite actually.

Nick:

Do want me to

Jeff:

put some

Nick:

of the lime seltzer? I

Alexander:

am intrigued to see what that tastes like. But no, I thought all the drinks were good, of course. I just thought this one had a little more depth in my opinion. Yeah. And I felt like I was tasting a little bit of everything.

Alexander:

I think it could have been improved, but that's what makes me excited about this drink. Yeah. Like the peanut butter and jelly, it's there.

Nick:

Can't do anything else. Yeah.

Alexander:

Like like there's there's nothing else. The the lemonade and the blackberry, don't think you can really change too much here like No. It's just a nice refreshing drink. This one, I felt like it had depth and I feel like you could do more if you wanted to.

Nick:

For sure. I agree.

Alexander:

For sure. And I like that. I think that's interesting and I'm excited to see another iteration of it.

Jeff:

Also, hands down to Hilltop because they did This was a great

Nick:

Yeah. You know? Yeah. Their batch of stuff, they they know what they're doing over there.

Alexander:

Yeah. It is delicious.

Jeff:

I would highly recommend it. It was it was a weird spot because we we tried it once before, right before snowstorm.

Alexander:

Snowstorm. Yeah. Exactly.

Jeff:

But this this is a really really small place. It's really hard to find.

Nick:

Yeah. Yeah. I I would agree. Ran off a random road.

Jeff:

Yeah. Definitely off a random road. But it was it was really good.

Nick:

Yeah.

Alexander:

Yeah. Well, thank you all so much for showing up, for watching. Remember to like, comment, subscribe, and we'll see you all in the next one. See you

Nick:

soon. Bye bye. Bye.
