"Ole Daniel prayed every morning, noon, and night," says the gospel song—one of my favorites.

Hi, David Hill with One Gospel Minute.

A Hebrew prince in Babylon (Daniel 1:3). When in Babylon, do as the Babylonians do, right? Not Daniel. He purposed in his heart not to defile himself. He could have said, "I didn’t ask for this." Jeremiah had lamented the fall of Jerusalem, saying, "Our fathers have sinned and are no more, but we bear their iniquities" (Lamentations 5:7).

In captivity, he and his friends confronted the leader of the world, King Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 3:13). Refusing to bow and worship him, Daniel and his friends made the king furious, putting his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the fiery furnace. God delivered them, and their faith and God’s deliverance turned the king’s heart (Daniel 3:29) to recognize the living God.

Remember the lion’s den? Daniel withstood that too—with God’s help. Think you have it hard? Remember the faith of Daniel. "Ole Daniel prayed every morning, noon, and night" (Daniel 6:10). He overcame—and you can too. That’s the gospel.
