we are back after a day off what's
crazy to me is we are to a
spot in this pod that we miss a
day and i get bombarded with dms where
are you what's going on you okay is
everything all right what's happening why
are you why would you want today i
mean she didn't miss the lunch today hey
man like stuff happens
then the people who listened on monday and
i said i got tests i have to
go through i'm getting dms texts saying
hey hope everything goes well all that
kind of stuff and it is it is
awesome that people reach out like that i
just i love that you guys care that
much um that you miss us when we're
gone and that you wish us well when
we're going through stuff
uh when we pick up broccoli salad and
throw out our back people send well wishes
i got so many dude is your back
okay what happened to your back are you
he's back all right you okay
I was like, yeah, I'm way better now.
I appreciate, though.
I mean, I laugh about it, you know,
mostly at myself.
But, yeah, I'm good.
I appreciate it.
It's just funny that you have to tighten
the weight belt before you pick up the
broccoli slaw now.
Yeah, a hundred percent.
I actually have.
I'm actually using my weight belt now.
I snatched yesterday and went and grabbed
my old Rogue one just to put it
on because my son has my one from
MFC, my two-poo belt somewhere in his car.
I got to go get it from him.
Well, I never used a belt ever, ever,
ever, ever.
And then the twelve back procedures later,
yeah, I started using a belt.
Yeah.
It is still not comfortable for me to
snatch or clean in a belt.
No, not at all.
Here's the thing.
I haven't used one for so long that
yesterday,
especially that Rogue belt's a little bit
wider than the Tupu.
Tupu's a lot thinner.
So
um ramirez i'm actually might buy a herd
belt that's entirely possible since my son
has my one that i got at mfc
anyway yeah belted up got it as tight
as i as i could and then was
like sitting there trying to get it in
the right spot so that when i squat
snatch it's not like digging into my back
digging into my back or digging into my
stomach and hurting in either one of those
spots so
It's going to take some getting used to.
Hopefully,
I just have it until I get comfortable
with not having it mentally again for that
extra support because I actually feel a
hell of a lot better.
My physical therapist is a genius.
So I have a,
I have a Clydesdale media to food belt.
Um,
that's it's old and it's just comfortable.
Um, but it,
it always like dug into my stomach when
I was lifting.
Yeah.
I've lost a little bit of weight.
And so it doesn't do that anymore,
which is a lot of weight.
It's really, really, um,
a good feeling to not have that digging
in anymore.
I can't even imagine, dude.
No, but I want, I want to get,
like I said,
I've been toying with the idea of buying
a belt.
I think you could have held that on
for another five seconds.
I probably could have,
but I'm also trying to adjust my pants.
So speaking of holding on, well, first,
um,
Craig Pasley with the great job last night
on the sports show.
Um, I had such a ball,
such a blast.
It's nice getting out of like this niche
of not that we're in a niche anymore.
Like we are totally,
totally off the rails,
but it's nice getting away from like the
CrossFit stuff.
Oh yeah.
Just talking about all my other sports
passions, which are a lot.
Yeah.

Like I said,
I was telling you before we went on,
I wish I could have jumped on because,
you know,
the Drew Brees thing that I sent you
and then some of the stuff y'all talking
about,
like I had other stuff to say regarding
it because y'all were talking about like
my era of baseball when we were talking
about
The Bash Brothers,
which I didn't bring up,
but I was going to talk about Ricky
Henderson because that was one of my
favorite players growing up.
You mentioned Ozzie Smith last night.
That was my favorite shortstop for the
longest time that dude was.
He was an acrobat for all intents and
purposes.
It was some of the catches he made
were absolutely just,
they didn't make sense.
Yeah.
He did the round off back flip to
start the season when he took position at
shortstop.
Yeah, dude.
And you look forward to it every single
year.
A hundred percent.
You know, stolen base King, Mr.
Ricky Henderson.
So here's a fun fact that people, Ricky,
like Ricky loves Ricky.
Ricky talked in a third person.
Yeah.
ricky gone um here's the thing fun fun
fact about ricky is that um he's so
far ahead as far as the stolen base
count is concerned that like any one of
the players i was playing today who might
be no you know known for stealing bases
would have to steal i forget it's like
an absurd amount of bases for the next
twenty years to be able to catch him
Patrick Clark is talking about Ricky being
his favorite player in the wraparound

How much money do you think Oakley made
because of Ricky Henderson?

Nobody made those wraparound Oakleys look
as good as Ricky Henderson.

they had an accounting anomaly come up
where they had too much money in the

It's because they paid Ricky a check for
a million dollars and he framed it and
put it on the wall and never cashed
it.
If I only had that kind of jack
to be able to just frame my million

game because i have a second tv in

We go to town,
but I miss the storytelling.
The announcers back in the day,
like in the eighties and nineties,
would tell all those Ricky Henderson
stories while the game's going on.
And that's what made watching baseball
awesome.
It was like just listening to your dad
tell stories while you're watching a game.

When I was, uh,
as I was getting dressed and get out
of my work clothes,
getting in my gym clothes, I was like,
man,
y'all talking about my stuff right now,

Cause like modern football,
once you get past, you know,
two thousand and probably thirteen or
fourteen i just stopped paying attention
to the nfl college football i'm all in
like i know i know way more than
i probably should have but uh having said
that that's the other thing i was gonna
bring up yesterday if i was able to
hop on was that i am probably going
to at least keep up with a lot
more um with the saints this year and
just nfl football in general um just
because this new quarterback that we have
mr shuck
seems to be the real deal after the
second half of the season like he was
out there doing it and he seems to
actually care about the city um and the
people in there and whatnot and he and
if you're if you're from if you're in
new orleans and you play for the saints
and you even give off an aura of
i actually give a shit about this town
the people embrace you and if the people
embrace you you're going to be there for
a long time especially you know if you're
good or not so good stuff
so i was watching get up this morning
they actually featured the saints in one
of the uh quick rundowns that adam
schefter was doing yeah and the reports
are that the new receiver they got um
his name escapes me right now uh is
killing people in practice yeah
Receiver core has never really been a
problem.
Running back hasn't been a problem the
last five, seven years or whatnot.
We need some defense,
and an offensive line would be fantastic,
just in case you were wondering.
You got a good quarterback,
you're going to want to protect him.

the same thing that Cincinnati has going

Mr. Joe Burrow up there,
you can be the best quarterback in the

but if you're running for your life every

I had my appointment yesterday.

but we got thumped on.

appointment.

I sent Vicki another one I'm going to

But what a what a crazy day yesterday.
and it was just hot down here so
noon i went up to uh get my
test started i was there till five had
chest ct um had i had to sit
in a glass box and breathe through a
tube um and if you remember like six
months ago they thought i might have
sarcoidosis there were masses in my lungs
those masses are starting to clear
And all the interference in the CT is
disappearing.
So everything is going well.
But they found a pocket of pneumonia.
Of course they did.
So I have walking pneumonia.
And the boogie woogie flu.
Yeah.
And so starting antibiotics tonight,
now that the pharmacy has just filled my
antibiotics about twenty minutes ago.
Well,
they were probably trying to find a treat
at broken half.
So, yeah, I guess I can forgive them.
It was a little bit windy yesterday.
It's a little bit of stuff going on
like that.
Well, good, dude.
That is outstanding news.
It is.
And look,
do you feel bad from the pneumonia?
Like,
did you feel like something was going on?
I can tell when I sleep on that
side.
That there's something, yeah,
something's not right.
Yeah.
But other than that, I'm saying like,
you know, walking around, whatever.
The improvement of my lungs is greater
than the detriment of the pneumonia.

So I'm excited that if I clear off
this pneumonia,
like how much better will I feel?
Better it's going to actually be.

That is nothing but good news right there.
I'm a big fan of that.

Scott had pocket jerky right as I got.

i still have not gotten yet so i
don't know if it's coming you know they're
actually delivering it like on a pack mule
with somebody named cookie and whatnot.

I've been checking my mail pretty
regularly.
Like I got home yesterday and there was
a package sitting on my,
on my counter and I was like, Ooh,
that for me.
And Jennifer was like, yeah.
And it was something I'd ordered from
Amazon.
So I was like, Oh, nevermind.
No ma'am.
It has not arrived yet.

I just finished watching Bailey Martin's
recap why he didn't finish top ten.
Hard things happen.
Didn't they have to pass physicals this
year?
They sure did have to pass physicals.
Here's the thing, though.
It was by their own doctor.
Whatever, whoever they're they're they're.
primary care physician is whatever they
could just it's basically we could have
got shanna like if scott's going to the
games he could have got shanna to write
him a note saying hey he took this
physical and he's good to go boom can
i can i say that after going through
afib and kind of the heart thing watching
him i i feared that yeah the way
he reacted to things i feared that damn
I didn't,
so I didn't even know that was a
thing.
So he was, he,
he's thinking he had some like a murmur
or something or.
So if you remember Torian two years ago,
he had to withdraw because of a heart
thing.
Yep.
I think he had an ablation after that.
So yeah.
Wow.
If he had heart things again,
it's going to,
where do you go from there?
No clue.
Gosh, I'm jumping all over the map today.

Someone said to me today,
we were trying to figure out who did
what at CrossFit HQ.

And I said,
their org chart must look like a ball
of yarn that has gotten loose.

hundred percent and and sometimes their
yarn goes over the same person like
multiple times and then it scoots over
here and it looks like that thing from
uh with charlie day where he's sitting in
front and he's got a map with all
the one of those type deals um i
got a
Shannon says he had an anomaly to an
artery feeding his heart, I believe.
Jeez.
That can't be fixed without surgery.
It doesn't sound like it could be surgery.
Wow.
Okay.
I'm not even going to speak on that
because I know nothing in that realm.
And I don't know way out of my
depth.
I'm already out of my depth,
and that's just going to make it worse.
I found out why the money is missing.

So,
this is a thing that is very frustrating
for me and CrossFit HQ.
This is a very, very simple explanation,
in my opinion,
that if they just said it ahead of
time,
Oh, you ask it a lot now.
So, apparently,
and it is not everybody in the world
pays twenty dollars for the open.
There are regions of the world with
certain economies that they get a reduced
rate on the open.
i have heard that like i even heard
that that they get like a reduced
affiliate fee they get reduced like
different costs around the world for lower
income third world countries that are
participating i live in louisiana we about
as low income as you come and i
gotta pay twenty dollars every year what
the hell dude come on twenty bucks
i'm shocked uh james said hq told him
that they did give away free registrations
and discounted registrations that is what
i got as well is okay in addition
to that i did also hear that in
some areas they had to pay credit card
fees for the um the payments but
And I get all that.
If you just say that up front,
that the prize purse will be this minus
our discounted registrations,
our free registrations,
and credit card fees,
now all of a sudden it's not a
big deal.
So what you're suggesting is clarity from
HQ?
Come on, Scott.
But what they did instead was they said,
instead of the two hundred and fifty four
thousand people that signed up for the
open,
we're basing this on two hundred and forty
two thousand people signing up for the
open.
So that doesn't that doesn't mesh.
Not at all.
The two things did not go together.
So,
but I do understand the explanation and it
does make sense.
Just what the hell?
Again, just, just explain it.
Just put it in the rule book,
put it in writing.

Transparency and CrossFit HQ do not go
together.

So we talked about this last night about
the WNBA and the commissioner not being
equipped with the capabilities to govern
that sport as it grows.
Like she was great for them when they
were a smaller league,
and as they have grown in popularity,
she is now out of her depth.
Quite.
I fear that that's where we are with
CrossFit HQ.
There's good people there that are good at
certain aspects of their job.
But as CrossFit grew,
they were then out of their depth on
how to sustain and grow the business.
Yeah,
you're applying the same principles you
were using to run a hundred person company
and trying to use them to run a
ten thousand person company.
It just doesn't work the same.
Yeah.
I mean, in this country,
it's really easy to run a small business,
but a lot of medium-sized businesses die
because the people aren't equipped to run
that size of a business.
Yeah.
Right.
I've heard story after story after story
of people who were very successful as a
small business owner.
And when they tried to expand up,
all of a sudden they lost everything.
And weren't able to recover.
And they were not able to recover.
The shit started getting sideways on them.
Didn't know what to do with themselves.
Got into basically the deep end of the
pool with no idea how to swim.
And yeah, it got away from them.
I can understand that.
The other thing I wanted to...
bring up is Jason Hopper did a debrief
while he was sitting on a plane.
And if Vicky has it and can pull
it up, that'd be awesome.
But it's a multi-slide kind of espousing
about the mentality of being a champion
and always wanting to win and learning
that maybe that isn't what's going to make
him happy in life.
And what I find fascinating about it is
Jason Hopper is kind of known as the
big do-do-do-do guy, right?
I always say I would love to see
him do a spelling bee.

Um, it's definitely worth a, uh,
this is not it, Vicki.

it's really an interesting look at his,

He always wanted to win everything.
Winning was everything.
And then he won and it didn't really
give him, um,
the satisfaction he thought it would,
it immediately became,
I've got to win again.
And how do you like get the joy
back in life?
And as a Christian man,
how does he take that view of doing
things for Jesus and this view of trying
to win everything and how do they coexist?
I would direct him towards one Richard
Froning Jr.
because he's one of the people who seems
to have that figured out.
So Rich's thing was like when it all
clicked for him,
if you've seen any one of the times
that he's been asked to speak anywhere or
when he's talked about it on his,
you know,
on the Fittest in History documentary and
whatnot is that when he figured out that
it's not about me.
it's about you know showing these
god-given abilities to to praise the lord
the bet in the best way he can
and then like if i'm not doing it
for the glory of me i'm doing it
for the glory of god it all kind
of settled into place for it now granted
rich was still winning every single thing
right but that's what it took almost
everything yeah look at the pictures when
he didn't win
Oh, yeah.
He is very much... I get it.
And as a Christian man, we're all flawed.
We all have flaws.
We all are sinners.
All of that stuff.
When he lost the Invitational,
his death stare was...
remarkable when they lost to the team to
that's the only medal that he hung up
in the barn was the second place one
so that he could stare at it and
remember how it felt yeah
I did the same thing.
I got second place at a comp,
like one of the biggest comps over here
in my age group,
and my medal is still hanging in the
gym where I can see it every single
day because it pissed me off.
For Rich, it was maturing,
having a family, kids,
that he learned that.
Yeah.
I think that's about when the shift really
happened for him.
When the true shift happened.
Yeah.
I would say so.
It was starting in the development of it,
I think was before that,
but the real shift happened then.
Yeah.
So speaking on Jason's thing,
or go ahead and beat that one.
Uh, props to Jason for putting this,
that out in public.
Many athletes would not be that open and
vulnerable,
especially knowing how the CrossFit
community can pile on people.
Yeah.
I actually wanted to bring this up and
I didn't know when I was going to
do it.
Um,
Vicki wrote an essay about Christianity in
CrossFit.
Yep.
And I think this is a really good,
why is someone like, so Jason,
Jason talks about his faith a lot.
Sure.
Right.
Right.
he does not take the pile on like
james sprague does when he talks about his
faith no rich never took that on why
is it that james is sectioned off and
hit harder with that than other athletes
colton's talked about his faith jason
talks about his faith
There's a lot of people in this community
that have talked about their faith and
nobody takes the heat like James Sprague
has.
Blows my mind completely.
And here's the thing.
James has led with that.
Forever for as long as he's been around.
So it's not like it's a secret and
all of a sudden one day he was
like this, you know,
plastic Christian or whatever you want to
call it.
Like the dude's been talking about it
forever and he still gets, like you said,
piled on for it.
I don't,
I will never understand that in a million
years.
It blows my mind completely.
Um,
Trent says he's much more vocal about it
and it has been and also not everyone
likes his personality.
I don't get that because,
and I've been saying this for quite some
time as well,
you either love James Spring or you're
wrong.
He's a giant puppy dog for all intents
and purposes.
He is a Labrador retriever.
He has the same syndrome as Noah.
Nobody believes that they're that nice.
Everybody believes it's fake.
Here's the difference.
I understand a thing about Noah because
for the longest time,
it just seemed fake to me when it
came out of Noah's mouth.
It just did.
I don't know why.
Just a feeling that I had.
Nothing personal against him.
I just didn't believe it.
With James, it just feels better to me.
It feels normal.
It feels like that's how that dude is
all the time.
So I don't understand it.
Every event I've ever been to with either
James or Noah.
Noah is always the last person off the
floor because he's taking pictures.
He's doing all the things.
And I've seen it behind the scenes.
It is as genuine as you have ever
seen.
It is...
And James is the same way.
Every time I've been around James,
he is the same individual you see in
public.
They are two of the most authentic people
I've seen in the sport.
Yeah, I can see that.
Like I said,
I don't – and I try to reserve
judgment on stuff like that because I know
how I feel,
and I've never actually met Noah.
So it might be, you know, like,
like exactly like you said,
like I might actually meet him in person
and go, oh yeah, no,
he's just like that all the time.
Okay, cool.
So I, I can admit,
I was just like you,
I was not a Noah fan.
Noah was, you know,
I heard one thing that he said about,
he was gonna be take the mantle from
Rich in and I never let him live
it down.
And then I met him in person.
Then I did an interview with him on
this show and I fell in love with
that dude.
Yeah.
Like, he is such a great dude.
I don't think James tries to be perfect.
I really don't.
I think people expect or think that he's
trying to be some sort of way,
and he's really, really not.
He almost legitimately got in an actual
fight with Jason when they were messing
around that day.
That's a thing that actually happened.
You could see that dude was not okay.
And that's part of being...
That's one of the few times which I
think more people should see that because
that's human.
He lost his temper.
And I think he's got a lot of
temper to lose because it almost happened
again.
He said it himself right then and there.
He said, no, no, no.
That bird, that was real.
He said, that was me being like...
I felt like he threw it at me.
I didn't like that.
So I flipped him off.
Yeah, I...
So I think this is the thing,
and Trent says people like to see that
versus the curated life.
I don't think it's a curated life.
I think genuinely James is trying to learn
how to live the best life he can
to glorify God.
Yeah, I think so too.
Right?
And if you deem that as curated,
that's on you.
Like he's doing that for himself because
even though we flipped off Ricky,
he did also say that I should learn
from that and I should try to be
better about that.
Yeah.
He's also what?
Twenty three.
So like,
I wish I had that conviction when I
was twenty three.
That's what I was fixing to say.
Like for him to him to even had
that conviction or to be that self-aware
to say something happened.
I reacted to it.
I reacted badly or I feel I reacted
badly.
Right.
And to say that maybe I should I
should be better about that at twenty
three.
If you threw something at me while I
was doing something,
when I was twenty three,
you'd be lucky to get just a finger
because I'd probably like it probably
would have been a whole lot worse because
I had I had my temper was out
of control back then.
Now, whatever I, you know,
let it let it fly off the handle.
But at twenty three for him,
that had that kind of just be able
to self reflect like that.
That's outstanding.
If you think about the stuff that James
went through as a child,

semifinals and games level type athletes

is if that's been your thing,
like you just want to win,

Or you set these goals and you hit
them.
You set these goals and you hit them.

After a while,
it feels almost like it's routine.
And so you get to a point where
you go –
I don't even know how I feel about
this because I I've never done anything
else.
Right now, Jason's one he's lost, right?
He was terrible.
His first couple of games,
everybody knows that it's no secret.
Then he came around and won and whatnot,
but to have that kind of,
for him to even have the self-reflection
enough to say,
is it just about winning?
Is it just about being as good as
I possibly can be?
And maybe winning is the side effect or
possibly not because maybe my good enough
isn't good enough, you know,
for him again,
because we all know that for whatever
reason,
Jason gets the big dumb animal tag
attached,
attached to him on a regular basis.
And clearly he's not right.
The dude's not, I mean, he's not,
you know,
sending rocket ships out into space by any
stretch of the imagination,
but he's also not an idiot by any
stretch of the imagination.
Finding out what they were going through
right before he got to the games,
so he's got all that stuff on his
mind, still going through it and whatnot,
and it probably put a whole lot of
stuff in perspective for him.
What does this actually mean?

and now all of a sudden it's gone,
snatched out of your hands.
That's a lot, dude.
I just think it was a cool peek
into what his mindset has been.
And he was welcoming people's thoughts,
which is really interesting.

I believe that they had Reebok in Texas
as well.

I believe Reebok has been a sponsor all
along.

But now they are everywhere.
I believe that Volunteer's got Reebok

Reebok getting back into CrossFit with
Xenon is huge.
Wonder why they are working with Xenon and
not CrossFit.
what I think Barry,
you have to understand is a lot of
the people behind Xenon are CrossFit
people.
It is a CrossFit sanctioned event.
CrossFit is an official partner of Xenon.
Yeah.
As Bert said, they got, uh,
they got Reebok shoes.
Um, and Patrick says they were also, uh,
sponsored the French throwdown.
Reebok has never left CrossFit in Europe.
Um,
They have a lot of European athletes still
on their roster.
Yep.
And I still, you know,
all the flashy new shoes that come around,
like the Strike Movements and the Adidas
and all those,
Reebok still puts out some really nice
looking shoes.
They really do.
I will say that.
If nothing else,
they've never gotten like, I say never,
they've mostly never gotten crazy with
their designs or anything like that.
You can still see a Nano is a
Nano.
You can tell from whoever's doing their
designs,
it's not a wild leap from year to
year.
It's a lot more of an evolution.
I like that.
Ortega,
that is way oversimplifying what happened
with Reebok.
There were lawsuits between CrossFit and
Reebok before it ended.
Yeah, it's pretty bad.
And because of that,
that's why the relationship ended.
There were questions as to whether Reebok
was short-cutting the money that they owed
CrossFit using the Reebok store as the
CrossFit store.
Greg Glassman said things about Reebok and
their shoes that were not kind.
Yes, Reebok brought in a lot of money.
Yes, Reebok dumped a ton into the sport.
It was not a great relationship at all
times.
No.
And I believe that because of that
relationship,
when CrossFit saw an opportunity to jump
at Noble,
they just ditched Reebok and went to Noble
in hopes of a better relationship.
And we saw how that turned out.
I will throw shade at Noble any chance
I get because they make the worst shoes
on the face of the planet.
And I will die on that hill.
I hope what Patrick's saying is correct,
that they're slowly trying to integrate
again instead of just, hey,
here's a gazillion dollars, go with it.
Because that makes a lot more sense.
It's better for them, and honestly,
it's better for us.
Do we need money in the sport?
The sport side, not the training side?
Yeah, absolutely.
But we saw what happened.
It blew up.
right games are on espn blah blah blah
and as soon as that money dried up
got sideways and it happened quickly and
it i mean we've been we've been struggling
for sponsors we've been struggling for
this we've been struggling for that like
it's been an entire thing so i think
it's a lot better if it's okay we
slowly reintegrate ourselves and now we
can do this and then now we can
do that and then now we can do
that until it builds up into a thing
Here's the deal.
Reebok doesn't make money at the games.
They make money at the affiliate.
Affiliate numbers are down.
You're not just sponsoring the games.
You're sponsoring the games to get into
the affiliate.
Those are the numbers you're looking to
capture when you're sponsoring the games.
We need to grow the affiliates to get
the sponsor back for the games.
The numbers are way too low of number
of affiliates in the world for a major
sponsor to jump back in.
Yep.
That's the issue.

Wadapalooza a little bit as the shoe
sponsor?

of things seems to be working out for
them, so good on them.

was like yeah you're in auburn now i'm
like are we though apparently the whole
town is named auburn but
manicured like the, it was incredible.
It was, the place was beautiful.
I've never seen a college campus look
anywhere near that.
And I, and LSU is pretty nice.

we went up to visit Jamie and she
lives in Lansing, Michigan,
and that's the home of Michigan state
university.
So I thought, Hey, we're here, Julie,
let's go over, check out Michigan state.
I cannot say that I had the same
experience you had at Auburn.
