What is The Chimes Weekly?

Bite-sized podcast episodes with your top news stories from The Chimes and Biola.

By Biola University students, for Biola University students. Previously known as Chimes Rundown and KBR Daily News Updates by KBR The Torch.

From The Torch Podcast Network, This is The Chimes Weekly. I’m Matthew, here to start off your week with major headlines and what’s coming up. It’s Monday, April 27.

Biola Senior James Whitman breaks the all-time Biola record for home runs in the same season as breaking Biola’s record in the NCAA era. Whitman has performed all season outstandingly, putting up numbers that show off on the PacWest leaderboards, and has overall shown off the profile of a complete ball player.

The 2026 World Cup is set to kick off all across The U.S., Mexico, and Canada starting June 11. With Los Angeles set to be a host city and Team USA boasting a stacked roster for this tournament, there are many reasons for Biola students to be excited to watch the tournament.

On Wednesday April 15th, President Barry Corey sent an email to Biola faculty and staff announcing the closure of the university’s Marketing and Communications division. Its current operations will be distributed between other departments, including mainly the enrollment and university advancement teams. The change will eliminate a few top administrators including the Vice president Tracey Harrison, and veterans of the department Brian Miller and Brenda Velasco.

Biola hosted a student forum on Thursday April 16, where students could learn about the new School of Arts and Letters, which will launch this summer. The school will combine the current schools of fine arts and humanities, creating a more unified liberal arts experience at the university. The merge comes as Biola is in the process of creating a new core curriculum and is preparing for an anticipated drop in college applicants in coming years.

Biola student-athletes traded their uniforms for formal dresses and suits for a night of recognition at the annual Biola Athletics Gala on Sunday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m. This end-of-the-year celebration brought many awards, old and new, and a time of reflection for the soon-to-be graduates.

That’s all for last week’s headlines. For more information on these stories, head to chimesnewspaper.com. Now, let’s dive into what’s happening this week at Biola.
