The Drop with Danno on GFN 광주영어방송

A bit of a wiggle in a box foils a young girl's ingenious plan to meet her heroes, then we start getting it in with all the indie goods that we can fit into two hours with Kat Bass providing the lion's share of the fresh cuts.

Show Notes

As broadcast June 14, 2022 with plenty of wiggle room for your new music tastes.  Tonight we mark a very weird instance in 1966 when a girl shipped herself to The Beatles in order to meet The Fab Four.  However, she was foiled by attentive railway station workers in London, but it is amazing stuff of pure fantasy.  After this, we went through the usual bevvy of new indie just out this past week with Kat Bass doing the majority of heavy lifting, with a new EP from Nurdjana along with cuts from Ruby Red, Scoobert Doobert, and Night Tapes being definite highlights.

Part 1
Earth Wind & Fire – Fantasy
cln feat Holly Hebe – Undone
scott is okay – Split Screens
LITCHE feat Anna – Colour of You
Nurdjana – I’m coming home
Nurdjana – Supermarine Spitfire (for Isa)

Facts
Earth Wind & Fire – Fantasy
- This is a rather amazing story, as it was on this date that employees at a London railway station noticed a large package wiggling, so they open it to discover 12 year old Carol Dryden, a fan of The Beatles, trying to mail herself to the group.
- So, this begs a lot of questions, but the first in my mind is what did this youngster think was going to happen if the package actually got there?
cln feat Holly Hebe – Undone
- Australian producer cln shares new single ‘Undone’ which features the golden vocal sounds of Melbourne artist Holly Hebe, and it’s also just the first taste of his second full-length album which is scheduled for release later in the year.
- Throughout last year the artist gave us three exceptional singles REVELRY, IN VAIN & REDEEMED. Hethen kicked off 2022 witha stunning cover ofThe KidLAROIandJustin Biebersong ‘STAY’, while also making promise of more new musiccoming our way soon
scott is okay – Split Screens
- Faceless (whether he claims to be or not, I haven’t seen his face so that’s good enough for me), enigmatic and effortlessly captivating, scott is okay is an emerging UK talent who is making waves with his unique brand of laid-back lo-fi pop.
- The London-based artist has been bubbling on the scene since 2019, and his sluggish vocals and minimalist soundscapes have emphasised a “less is more” approach that really allows the nuance and personality of the artists sound to shine through.
LITCHE feat Anna – Colour of You
- As highlighted on Acid Strong, Back in December Australian producer LITCHE gave us a very cool song called ‘Bad Connection’ featuring Sydney hip-hop/rap artist YIBBY, which is still on high rotation over here and I am very excited to see he’s coming back to us this week with another stunning slice of atmospheric electronica on new single ‘Colour of You’.
- To me, ‘Colour of You’ represents a dream where one person in a relationship is inspired to take on some of the best qualities and “colours” of the other person’s life in an attempt to grow and become a better version of themselves.”
Nurdjana – I’m coming home
Nurdjana – Supermarine Spitfire (for Isa)
- Big up to our guest artist selector for last Friday, the Canada-based and Netherlands-bred Nurdjana De Rijcke. Out with a new EP today called Coming Home, dedicated to her father who passed away recently, and also many of the songs written by her father Rob before he departed.
- Lovely stuff, big up to Nurdjana for her appearance on the gig.

Part 2
Ruby Red - No Feeling is Forever
Delights - Iris
maxime. - can't you tell?
BETWEEN FRIENDS - navigate
Mr. Little Jeans - Blitz
Hector Gachan - Electric Company

Facts
Ruby Red - No Feeling is Forever 3.31
Ruby Red's most recent project, "Saboteur", is an honest distillation of early adulthood, a "coming of age" spent in isolation during the pandemic. The album is the band's attempt to paint a portrait of the Youth in which they could no longer partake. The songs such as No Feeling is Forever, sound like feverish memories with splattered colors that cannot amount to a picture perfect image.

Delights - Iris 4.06
Manchester based band Delights formed in 2017 while at college together. The band draw their inspirations from an eclectic catalogue of music, influenced both by what their parents played to them growing up and by their own musical discoveries. Merging these influences into a blend of bedroom pop with hints of 70's psychedelic music found the band quickly picking up praise. Iris is a multi track single, including their recent singles Tender and 1989.

maxime. - can't you tell? 2.39
This talent is a self-released, self-published, self-produced and self-engineered creative who makes premium music from his bedroom. Canadian artist maxime. has released some indie gems recently, but new single ‘can’t u tell ?’ is probably the favourite that I've come across so far. Playful yet emotive in it’s eccentric style of production, the song serves as the third taster for upcoming EP ‘rubber checks’ released on 21st July.

BETWEEN FRIENDS - navigate 2.45
BETWEEN FRIENDS is the latest endeavor of brother/sister duo Brandon and Savannah Hudson, along with drummer Brennan Benko. All three musicians were formerly members of indie-pop band The Heirs, known for their run on America's Got Talent, before taking on this new, collaborative project together. Innuendos of drinking, navigate is about a relationship that's never ending and confusing. Aren't all relationships tho?

Mr. Little Jeans - Blitz 3.28
With more than 132 million global streams to date, Norwegian musician Mr Little Jeans releases her highly anticipated sophomore album, Better Days. Better Days plays like a true emotional journey and arrives towards the tail end of a tumultuous few years in which her entire life was thrown into disarray, but, as ever, music offered a path back from the brink. Blitz is the second track of the album, offering us, bliss.

Hector Gachan - Electric Company 4.03
Hector Gachan is Bosnian/Australian artist currently based in Sydney. Growing up in both Sydney and Sarajevo, Hector reveals his journey as a young man in between two very different worlds. In 2017, He shows shades of psychedelia, pop, electronica and alternative rock mixed together backing up his cryptic lyrics which entail his perspectives as a person in between east and west. Electric company describes the feeling of being trapped in the dark and in need of light to see forward.

Part 3
Slowdaze - Transurfing
Scoobert Doobert - Who Am I Really Fooling Anyway
Surfaces - What's Been On Your Mind
Will Joseph Cook - Gummy
Clay and Friends - Chocolat
Stray Fossa - So Still

Facts
Slowdaze - Transurfing 3.25
Slowdaze is the alternative/electronica alias of British producer Alex Fish. Born from a love of records, the music has hallmarks from many genres, sounding familiar yet completely fresh at once. Since beginning in 2019, Slowdaze has expanded into a musical collective, focused on collaboration and experimenting with different genres. Despite the shoegaze vibe the band gives off, Transurfing gives us the beat to really ViBe.

Scoobert Doobert - Who Am I Really Fooling
Anyway 3.09
San Diego based Scoobert Doobert is currently producing the upcoming collaboration between Japanese actor and pop star Shingo Murakami of the idol group Kanjani Eight and the J-Pop band CHAI. His recent rapid ascent as an in-demand producer and collaborator inspired his newest single “Who Am I Really Fooling Anyway” which in his patented chill pop style addresses his yet quickly sprouting success.

Surfaces - What's Been On Your Mind 2.52
Texas-based indie pop duo Surfaces make their return to planet indie pop this week with the release of their latest single ‘What’s Been On Your Mind?’. Serving as the follow up to the super infectious grove of ‘I Can’t Help But Feel’, the new track finds the duo in a more reflective mental state as they ponder how best to help a friend in need.

Will Joseph Cook - Gummy 3.01
No stranger to the fine line between mellow and melancholy, Will Joseph Cook has spent his time so far swinging between pop bops and ethereal, moody moments. His newest album, Every Single Thing' is a love story that radiates an overwhelming romanticism, but Will Joseph Cook and his incredible moustache have the innate ability to pull it off without seeming inauthentic. Out song Gummy just gushes with sweet words, however.

Clay and Friends - Chocolat 3.10
Together the five Montreal based artists make up their band Clay and Friends. Clay and Friends gives you a sound that resonates with hip-hop, soul, and funk. “I don’t think anyone will ever say that Clay and Friends is a coherent and homogenous band,” says singer and multi-instrumentalist member, Mike Clay. Chocolat is their 2nd track to their extended version of their fourth album AGUÀ.

Stray Fossa - So Still 4.16
So Still is the 7th track to Stray Fossa's newest album, Closer Than We'll Ever Know. The album is the indie trio's self-produced follow up to 2021's With You For Ever. Apparently, after their 2021 release, the band was split across continents, hence inspiring many of the tracks to be about the theme Distance. It applies to many subjects as Time, Change, Place, and Movement.

Part 4
Night Tapes - Humans
TOLEDO - L-Train
Yot Club - Priorities
I SEE RIVERS - Your Love
OVAN - Do I Do
carlina - d e e p e r

Facts
Night Tapes - Humans 4.10
Just like their band name says, Night Tapes really knows how to deliver lush and dreamy tracks perfect for a late night drive. Today's song is no stranger to the dark. “Humans” is lyrically about inner psychic landscapes that variously manifest in the outer world. So it’s a personal song about looking at and acknowledging our own inner demons.

TOLEDO - L-Train 3.47
TOLEDO hail from Brooklyn, not the city in Northwest Ohio and get their name from the Spanish city that predates Toledo, Ohio — and from one of two core members, Dan Álvarez de Toledo. The pair, childhood friends from Newburyport, Massachusetts, have released their first single called “L-Train. The song taps into their roots, with TOLEDO leaning on those 90s adult contemporary vibes for a soothing acoustic moment.

Yot Club - Priorities 3.21
Yot Club aka Ryan Kaiser has shared his debut album, off the grid. The new record was inspired by Yot Club’s move and by the ways individuals in a small town go about their days. “While many ache for a desire to explore the art and beauty of the world around us, people in these areas face a lack of opportunity and an illusion of comradery which results in longlasting mental and physical effects as they seek escapism,” says the artist. So I suppose priorities may be lacking here?

I SEE RIVERS - Your Love 2.53
Since their 2020 debut, The Norwegian, Wales-based trio I See Rivers are back with a new song and ready to play their music live throughout the summer. “Your Love” is an anthemic track about trying too hard to make a relationship work. But there is not much sadness here, rather a relief about being rid of something that does not work. Something I'd like to know about.

OVAN - Do I Do 4.10
OVAN to s a South Korean Singer Songwriter who first has his name known through a program called Show Me The Money, a hip-hop contest. Since then he was immediately signed and released 1 album in 2020. Despite trying out at a rapper and showing talent, it seems the artist finds more interest in ballad and indie. I mean, things happen. People find their own taste early or either late.

carlina - d e e p e r 2.09
Carlina is a indie pop artist From Los Angeles, amply influenced by HAIM, The Ting Tings, and Paramore. Her up-beat, outspoken indie anthems are stirring up conversation and challenging societal norms, making her debut concept EP RUBY AND THE DIAMONDS a collective gem of songs impossible to ignore. d e e p e r expresses the feeling of how you're ith close company, but could never get any deeper past the surface.
