📍 So I was in a group call a while ago and someone put in the chat, "I hear this all the time, that I need systems, but I honestly don't even know what they are." And it was a big kind of sticker shock to me of, oh my gosh. So often as consultants or just experts in our field, we don't realize what might be jargon to us. Like a lot of times we think of jargon as being like the really technical and complex vocabulary of an industry and don't realize that sometimes what we consider basic is still jargon to others.
Like one time I was, I was facilitating a workshop for a group of employees, and they paused and asked. Wait, what does KPIs stand for? That's something that's super common for me and I just assumed that they knew KPIs is a key performance indicator. So today we're gonna break down what exactly is a system and why does it matter?
So let's really break down what exactly is a system and why does it matter for you. 📍
Welcome to Strategy Solutions and Sanity, the show for family run businesses and serial entrepreneurs who are done letting chaos run the show. I'm Sam, business and team strategist and your no Fluff Guide to Making Business Simple and fun. This is a quick cast, a short, sharp dose of strategy and action.
'cause I know sometimes you just need that quick next step to get your sanity back. So let's get into it.
In the most basic, simple sense, a system is just your particular way of doing things. A strong system is going to be a structured, effective, efficient way of doing things.
But whether or not you've really evaluated your systems , you've got a way of delivering things to your clients or creating your content or onboarding clients, or planning out and scheduling out a project. Hiring team members, right?
Every facet of your business deserves a system or has a system. Ideally you want this again to be an effective, efficient way of doing something, and it's something that you can do consistently. It's feasible to do consistently, and it will scale with you. I will often use the term systematic scalability to refer to the idea that you want, whatever structure you have in place to be something that is easy to grow and expand as you grow and expand your business.
You wanna be evaluating for how can I make sure this is repeatable? How can I make sure I can rely on this way of doing things to achieve these outcomes? How can we make sure that this way of doing things is clear? That that's what's gonna make strong, effective, and efficient systems for your business that can scale with you.
So I know that might feel a little rudimentary for some of us that have invested in our processes and our workflows . But there are also those people that haven't taken that time or haven't had the budget to do that and have no idea what a system really looks like.
If that is you, I would encourage you to not get overwhelmed and to not get intimidated by the word system. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs to work for your business. It needs to work for what you want out of your business, and it needs to work for the outcomes that you want it to achieve.
I would also just encourage you while you're not being intimidated, to keep it super simple, 'cause that will also influence the scalability of that system.
📍 So that's it. That's really all a system is it's your unique way of doing things that's gonna be consistent, effective, and efficient and help you to achieve the things that you want in your business.
