Now we get the way back
TaKisha August:Welcome to day two of good with money with Kate Northrop. So happy to see you all here. My name is Takesha August. I'm the head of community here inside of team Kate, and we're so excited for you to join us. Just a little bit of housekeeping again.
TaKisha August:If you're joining us for the first time or even the second, you can minimize or close out your chat if you tend to be a little overwhelmed by that experience, and you can select the little caret at the bottom so that you can hide previews. Also, if the screen, that Kate is sharing during the workshop doesn't automatically populate for you, there's a tab at the top of your Zoom window that'll say see Kate's window or Kate's window view or whatever it says for you. Just click that so you can see her sharing her screen. You can also see her sharing her, her face, and we're gonna get going here. So excited to welcome you all again and enjoy.
TaKisha August:Have your workbook handy, have your pen and open your ears wide. Here we go.
Kate Northrup:Hello. Thanks, Takesha. Welcome back, everyone. I am so happy that we're all here together for day two. I will say, if you are here for day two and you missed day one, you are in the perfect time at the perfect place and you are right on track.
Kate Northrup:So no matter how you are experiencing this workshop, you are doing it right. Can we all affirm for ourselves in this moment, I am doing it right. I am doing it right. Okay. So let's do it right together.
Kate Northrup:I'm going to open my slides, and we are gonna dive in here. Okay. Standby. I'm gonna share my screen, and then I'm gonna do this, and then I'm gonna present, and I'm gonna confirm with our team that everyone can see my slides. So in the in the team chat, can you just confirm?
Kate Northrup:Fantastic. Confirming that everyone can hear me okay. I'm feeling great today. I hope you are feeling great today. And even if you're not, that's also perfect.
Kate Northrup:So let's go ahead and dive in. Oh, here we go. Okay. A brief review. This will be helpful.
Kate Northrup:It's grounding. What we did during day one is the following. We learned why now is the time to heal your relationship with money because of the particular inflection point that we're in oh, I just hit myself in the chin that we're in in history, particularly around women and money, but all conscious humans and money. Things are shifting fast, and now is the best time we've ever had in history for you to be engaging in healing your relationship with money, which is so exciting. We discovered why healing your nervous system is the key.
Kate Northrup:You're not going to hear this other places and you likely haven't before. There were so many breakthroughs around this particular thing. Healing your nervous system has very likely been the missing key around your money life. And we talked about the three things that the happiest, wealthiest, most relaxed, and I'm going to add in most generous people are doing behind the scenes so you can start doing them too. And then finally, we turned location services on.
Kate Northrup:So that was your homework. We turned location services on, and I'm going to check-in with you on that because I know there can be a full wide spectrum of experiences as we actually do the work to start to create safety with our numbers. And that was around your now point. But before we get into that, I want to highlight a few things that came up in the Facebook group, a few things that came up in my DMs, just some stuff in the collective field. What's so cool about doing a workshop live like this is we are co creating this together in real time in the emergent field or the generative field of live interaction.
Kate Northrup:That's why I love doing this once a year live because it's new, it's fresh, and it's on track with where our collective community is going and the leading edge of each of our evolution. So here's what's fresh. This is just like wasn't pre planned, but I popped it in this morning. So if you notice that during the live session last time or during the session this time, or really any time in your life, impatience comes up, judgment comes up, or boredom comes up. These are all invitations.
Kate Northrup:So typically, if we've studied anything about the nervous system, we, have learned the F's, right? Fight, flight, freeze, flop, fawn. And we'll think like, Oh, I'm only dysregulated if I'm anxious, or I'm only dysregulated if I'm overwhelmed. But I want to say that dysregulation and being out of our range of regulation or our range of resonance can show up in some subtle, sneaky ways that we wouldn't necessarily obviously know are signs that our nervous system is responding to a fear stimulus. And some of those ways are impatience, judgment, and boredom.
Kate Northrup:So impatience is a low grade flight response. Judgment is a low grade fight response. And boredom can be a low grade freeze response. And if those things are coming up, the invitation is to know that you are at an edge, and it's a good thing. Those are signs of resistance.
Kate Northrup:Those are signs of dysregulation. And it doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. And it also doesn't mean that I'm doing it wrong. Okay? So I have a tendency, I'm just going to share something from behind the scenes of my life.
Kate Northrup:When things get really good, Mike and I have taken a couple of, like, really beautiful trips. And these past several years have been, things have stabilized the last two years or so. But before then, it was really rocky. And I shared my story last time about some of that. And so when we've taken these beautiful trips where everything goes still, and I'm not tending to kids, I'm not working, I'm not on social media, like things go still, my unfortunate default is to go into judgment.
Kate Northrup:So before I can get into full surrender and expansion and pleasure and enjoyment, I go into judgment, which is a low grade fight response. Now I know it, so I know what's happening, but I can go into this terrible place where I'm suddenly judging my husband for all these things that are just it just feels pretty awful inside myself. And so I want to invite you today, I've had a quick conversation with my dear friend, Sarah Tacey, who is also a genius nervous system healing expert and somatic specialist. She's been working in mind body healing for over twenty years. And she also is our resident nervous system healing expert within our incredible Relaxed Money program.
Kate Northrup:You're going to hear a tiny bit about that, like the slightest sliver later on today, but I want you to listen in when that comes. So Sarah and I were bopping back and forth about impatience, judgment, and specifically boredom. And she shared something with me that came from one of her teachers, Tel Darden, who I mentioned before, T E L E D A R D E N. And it's the invitation to instead of suffer through the edge of, through your edge of growth, to be with that edge. So she came up with a couple of suggestions.
Kate Northrup:If you notice today, oops, I'm, here's my sticky note. If you notice today that you're feeling bored or you're in the replay and you're feeling bored, that can be because in our culture, slow can feel really hard because we've been so conditioned to go fast all the time. And so if you're feeling bored, you could get up. You could keep listening, but you could get up and jump around, right, to use your body and meet the desire that it has. If you're feeling impatient, you could get up and take this training for a walk with you.
Kate Northrup:And if you want it to go faster, you could do the training while cleaning and then re listen to the replay. I saw a lot of people listen to the replay and receive something the second time that they were not able to receive the first time. So that's very common. Or you could to exit while walking. So if you have a need for faster, you get to meet that need while still being with the information.
Kate Northrup:So I wanted to offer that wisdom from Sarah Tacey for you if you notice that you're meeting your edges around some of this material. I want us all to notice if we are feeling like something outside of us needs to be different in order for us to feel okay. When we meet judgment, when we meet boredom, when we meet impatience, we often are projecting onto the external. Maybe you're projecting onto somebody in the Facebook group. Maybe you're projecting onto me.
Kate Northrup:Maybe you're projecting onto somebody on our team. Maybe you're projecting onto somebody in the VIP. Whatever it is, notice if you are getting stuck on something or someone outside of you needing to be different in order for you to feel safe, relaxed, abundant, okay, whatever. And it's not wrong, but I just want you to notice it. When we are in a place where we have decided that someone or something outside of us needs to be different in order for us to be okay, we are giving away our power to them or to that thing.
Kate Northrup:And that ain't the way to relaxed money. That is not the way to good with money. That will not be an effective path. And so that's the time we can just notice and say, Oh, oh, okay. Yep.
Kate Northrup:I'm up against my edge here. And when we're up against our edge, that's a sign of resistance. And it's not a problem. Resistance is not a problem. Resistance is actually a sign that you're onto the solution.
Kate Northrup:Resistance is a sign that the solution is already underway and you've met an edge, which means you're growing, you're expanding. So it's actually good news. However, that's the time you want to use your tools. And I'm going to teach you a great tool today. And when we are noticing we're up at the edge of expansion, and we are meeting our edge, that is when our conditioning will have us want somebody else to change or something else to change, or our conditioning will have us try to fix it with our mind.
Kate Northrup:None of those are going to be effective long term strategies. And so I'm going to teach you today an effective long term strategy that melts the edge, signals safety, and allows you to keep moving forward in a way that's really healthy. Okay, I also want to mention that this came up a lot in the Facebook group. And it comes up a lot in conversations I have with our students about money. And that is folks feel like the solution to their money problems is to find ways to have more willpower to overcome their overspending or overcome their tendency to play small or, like, just need to use their willpower to be more consistent, and ask for that raise and just be more disciplined about my spending.
Kate Northrup:And I am wanting to be actually the bearer of good news. So I want to be the bearer of good news here and tell you that willpower and discipline are actually fairly unsustainable as energy sources Because when we're relying on our willpower, that is a nonrenewable resource. So we, you might have read the, article in the New York Times. It came out many years ago. It was about decision fatigue and the way in which by the end of the day, we have actually run out of our decision energy.
Kate Northrup:We no longer can make positive conscious decisions by the end of the day. So they talk about stacking important decisions in the beginning of the day. But what I'm actually offering here is that you can get what you want in your money life and any other area of your life. You can get what you want without depending on willpower and discipline long term. Maybe you need to front load a little bit of willpower and discipline.
Kate Northrup:However, long term, those are not good strategies. What is a good strategy long term though? You may ask. Long term, the best strategy for getting what you want is to rewire your neural patterning. Good news.
Kate Northrup:You're here today and we're going to work on that. And when you do that, your patterning becomes a match for what you want. And then you don't have to depend on willpower or discipline. You just notice that now you're acting in all these ways that are incredibly supportive to your financial dreams. And then before you know it, you just have your financial dreams without having to babysit your thoughts or police your behavior or use willpower and discipline.
Kate Northrup:So I'd love to know in the chat, does that feel like a relief to anybody? Just go ahead and pop a one in the chat if knowing that you can stop using willpower and discipline as your primary strategy, if that feels like, oh, actually, collectively, can we just let out an audible sigh? So I'm going to invite you to just take a breath in. Yeah. Yeah.
Kate Northrup:A reminder. Emotions come first, then we start to have conscious thoughts and beliefs. And where do emotions come from? Where do does the feeling in our body that we label as anger, or grief, or sadness, or joy, where does that start? Yeah, it starts in the nervous system.
Kate Northrup:That's why we do this work, right? I talked about going all the way upstream to the site of the toxic waste dump. Doing mindset work is like taking a Dixie cup at the delta of a river that was polluted miles and miles up and trying to, like, scoop out the the toxic waste at the delta is is too late. That's going that's going into the ocean. So the nervous system healing work goes way, way upstream.
Kate Northrup:It stops the toxic waste dump to begin with. Perhaps it even shuts down the plant that's using toxic chemicals to begin with. On Earth Day, that feels like a celebratory vision. And it makes it so that the river runs clear and clean. And so by the time you've gotten to your thoughts and beliefs, they are automatically more supportive and you have the capacity to notice them when they're off, to notice when you're thinking something that's not helpful, and you have the capacity to shift it as well.
Kate Northrup:I also want to mention something I had mentioned Tel Darden already, T E L D A R D E N. She also is one of the mentors of Sarah Tacey, who is our resident nervous system healing expert. And Tell talks about the difference between our range of resonance versus our range of regulation. In the nervous system healing world, we can have this idea that calm is always the way we want to feel, like I need to calm down. Then we have this idea that regulated is like bringing us into equanimity at all times.
Kate Northrup:And I know from my own experience that actually what we're wanting to go for is nervous system resonance, meaning the ability to, with suppleness, move in and out of parasympathetic and sympathetic and be able to feel the aliveness of the full spectrum of human experience without getting stuck in a hyper response or getting stuck in a hypo response. So getting stuck in a hyper is like activity, and a hypo is like, bleh, right? So we're looking for resonance and aliveness. And when we cultivate our ability for our bodies to be a conduit of resonance and aliveness, we actually become living, breathing conduits abundance, of creativity, of life force energy, of the abundance that wants to run through our circuitry in all forms, financially and otherwise. And so I wanna really invite us to play around with the idea of resonance as opposed to regulation.
Kate Northrup:I don't know. To me, the word regulate feels very like, Right? Versus resonance is like, that feels yummy. So I want I wanted to put that out there as an invitation to start. And then I know I'm front loading a lot here, so let's just know that you have the replay.
Kate Northrup:Okay? These are gonna be available for an entire week additionally past when I'm when I deliver the the final live session. So just know you have plenty of time with this material. These were all nuggets that came up. Okay.
Kate Northrup:This one is really fun. It feels really good, but we're so often conditioned to not do it. Last night, Mike and I were watching Queer Eye. I don't know who's a fan of the Fab Five. I'm a huge fan of Queer Eye, and it is a show that I watch when I need something that is gentle to my nervous system.
Kate Northrup:And so that's not going to make me anxious before bed because it always is a happy ending, and it always opens my heart. So last night, there was a woman on named Sarah, and she's a single mom of three. And they were talking about with her the importance of celebrating herself. And it was such a block, like it was such a visual block. I could feel I could see her body go into armoring when they suggested celebrating herself for having completed her associate's degree.
Kate Northrup:And we all do that, right? We get to the end of we get to the finish line, and then we just move the finish line. And that's a dysregulated nervous system feeling unsafe with expansion. Because if celebration means we've reached a new level or we've reached a new era or a new chapter, of course, we would unconsciously or subconsciously keep moving the carrot, right? So it's like maybe you have a business and you reach, you got your first hundred ks year.
Kate Northrup:And that would be cause for celebration, right? But instead, we have such a tendency, especially my hyperachievers, my overfunctioners, will have a tendency to be like, well, yeah, but Susie on Instagram is doing 200 k a year. So I just need to put my head down and keep going. Do you see how when we avoid celebration and gratitude and approving of ourselves and of our circumstances, actually what happens is it guarantees we continue to stay in the same limited band of experience that, again, does not feel good necessarily, but feels like home, because that's our money nervous system thermostat bringing us back down to our setting for how much capacity we can feel, we can experience for abundance. Three of the most effective strategies.
Kate Northrup:Four, expanding our capacity to receive more and literally actually have the experience of it being more is approving of ourselves and what already is. My friend, Regina Thomas Hauer, and she's also a teacher of mine, says, The sooner we approve of what is, or the sooner we celebrate what is, what's next falls into our laps. So good. Right? So where do you need some of this medicine in your life?
Kate Northrup:Where do you need more approval? Where can you celebrate how far you've come? Last time we talked about the gap versus the gain and how we want to orient ourselves according to how far we've come, as opposed to always orienting ourselves according to how far we have to go. And then gratitude and the conscious practice of gratitude literally changes your brain wiring. People who practice gratitude experience more joy, more satisfaction, and as a result, more success and magnetism in their lives.
Kate Northrup:It sounds simple. It sounds cliche, but you know what? It works. And the data backs this up. So and finally, there's some beautiful, beautiful, beautiful celebrations of synchronicity inside the Facebook group that I'm absolutely loving.
Kate Northrup:You know, one woman was coming up against an edge around her finances, and then she was willing to do some work on that personally and did a therapy session about it. And then within moments after the therapy session ended, she got an email from someone inviting her to this very workshop. And the universe was just guiding her. Synchronicity is one of the laws of the universe that shows, oh, I just did a little funny little whistle. When we're experiencing synchronicity in our lives, that is a sign that we are in alignment, that we are on track.
Kate Northrup:And I'm going to get into this a little bit more. There's a part of your brain that helps you to sift and sort for what's important and what's not important. So stay tuned for that. But I will tell you now that the more you pay attention to and celebrate synchronicity, the more abundance will flow into your life. So if you've already been experiencing synchronicity in this workshop, put it in the chat.
Kate Northrup:If you've already been experiencing synchronicity during Good With Money, pop it in the Facebook group, send me a DM, email our team. We want to celebrate with you because what we put our attention on grows. And synchronicity is one of the biggest signs from the universe. Hey, you are super on track. Okey dokey.
Kate Northrup:So now you might be wondering, Okay, well, I'm dysregulated, and I want to update my nervous system and my money thermostat. So how do I actually do that? Folks, I could tell we're starting to get really hungry for the practical next steps. And so today you're going to get those. So you are in the right place.
Kate Northrup:A couple of quick housekeeping things. Takesha already talked about turning off the chat if it's distracting for you. You'll notice most of the session, I am not looking at the chat. It's distracting for me too, because y'all are so enthusiastic, and I love that. But I'll pop in there a little bit.
Kate Northrup:And remember to pop in your emoji in the chat if you have a breakthrough. And then everything you need for this workshop, for your replays, your homework, your workbook is all at katenorthop.com/replay. So everything you need is all at that link. Okay, so we had a winner for our first homework prize. So our first homework prize is an Oura Ring.
Kate Northrup:So I love my Oura Ring. I got it specifically because of the way they do their cyclical tracking with the basal body temperature. However, I found the resilience score to be an incredibly helpful data piece for me. The heart rate variability, my HRV, I love knowing that because your HRV is such an important indicator of how well your autonomic nervous system is doing, responding to stress and metabolizing stress. So that HRV is so helpful.
Kate Northrup:We are not sponsored by Aura. I am just a big fan. So we had Kelly Sedwick. So Kelly Sedwick is our Oura Ring winner. She submitted the homework for day one, which was page 19 of Your Relaxed Money Map.
Kate Northrup:So Kelly will be emailing you. We can't wait for you to receive your aura ring. Now for today, at the end of the session, I will get to what your homework is to submit for today. And our winner is gonna get an Ariata BioMat, an amethyst crystal mat. I lay on this thing.
Kate Northrup:We keep it out in our living room a lot of the time. I lay down on this thing, and I just instantly melt. If I'm, like, wound up and feeling like, this thing's wrong. I'm annoyed with my kids. I'm impatient.
Kate Northrup:I'm I just lay on that thing, and I was just like, blah in the best way, in the best way. And so the person who submits their homework today, one winner, I mean, everyone's going to submit their homework, but one winner is going to get the Amethyst mat. And then on day three, I'll tell you later about the Juve red light. We also still have the opportunity for you to join us for VIP. I know we have a lot of VIPs in the chat.
Kate Northrup:So if you've been having an experience with VIP that you want to share, please go ahead and put it in the chat. I've seen you. You've been DMing me. I know it was really powerful for the folks who joined us. But if you want to spend an additional two hours with me in an intimate group coaching environment tomorrow for two hours and Friday for two hours, plus keep the replays of those VIP group coaching sessions for life, then go ahead and you can still join VIP.
Kate Northrup:That's still open and available to you. I'd love to see you in there. It's been really, it's the first time we've done it, honestly. And I love it so much. I love it so much.
Kate Northrup:I hope you do, too. In fact, I know you do. Okay. And then our podcast review giveaway is still open. So all you need to do to check that out is search the podcast Plenty on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and then go ahead and follow the show or subscribe.
Kate Northrup:Leave a review, screenshot it, and just upload that screenshot over at katenorthrop.com/review. All these links are in the Facebook group. We'll also make sure that they go in the replay email, so everything is there for you. And a few people who leave reviews, and we're going to leave the review contest open or giveaway open the entire Good With Money workshop. And a few people who leave a review are going to get a really yummy wellness swag bag of some of my favorite wellness products, plus personalized signed copies of my books, Do Less, and A Love Story.
Kate Northrup:And if you stay until the end, you are gonna get the weekly do less planner spread. You have never seen a planner like this before. It will change the game for you. So who did the homework? Let me know in the chat.
Kate Northrup:I'm gonna open the chat. I'm going in. Who did the homework? Okay. Great.
Kate Northrup:I'm seeing so many of you. Love it. And even if you are listening to the replay and you're like, oh, I totally missed the homework. Do the homework. The giveaway doesn't mean, the giveaway is lovely, but the point is for you to get the benefit of doing the homework, not to get the aura ring.
Kate Northrup:So both are great. However, do the homework, you will get benefit even if you have missed the deadline for submitting it. And so many people are getting benefit already. They're realizing that they're designed to be a money magnet. They're having breakthroughs.
Kate Northrup:One person worked through their resistance all weekend long. Like we're talking intense physical resistance, anxiety, nausea, exhaustion. So they met their edge, they stayed with themselves, they kept returning back. And by the end of the weekend, this is somebody who was really struggling and did not know how they were going to figure out their finances, by the end of the weekend, because they put loving attention on their now point. Not their now point of like, this means it's going to be like this forever, but just their now point.
Kate Northrup:They just turned on location services and did their best to show up free of judgment, just saying, This is a snapshot of where I am now so that I can get to where I'm going. And trust me, today, we're going to talk about where you're going. We're going to talk about your financial dreams. We're going to get to the roots available to get to your financial dreams. And what this person experienced was that out of the blue, unexpected, this had not been something they were cultivating or expecting at all.
Kate Northrup:Somebody hired them as an online business manager for a fee that not only covers all of their needs right now, it also allows them to put some money in savings, and it also allows them to plan a summer vacation with their kids. Okay, that came out of nowhere. And that person is just one of many who's having the experience of abundance showing up, quote unquote, out of nowhere. But what happens is when you change, the world changes. When you change your insides, things change on the outside.
Kate Northrup:We cannot wait for the outside to change in order for us to change. We have to start inside ourselves and be self led, which you already know, because you're here. So breakthroughs are happening. It's really beautiful. Oh, I took my eye off the chat.
Kate Northrup:And then we just okay, great. So what came up for you, though? I am curious, just, you know, what came up for people around the homework? Anything? Yeah.
Kate Northrup:Okay. I'm glad you're saying this. So for some people, shame came up, frustration, terror. It felt like it was too much, confusion. For some people, it was really surprising.
Kate Northrup:The numbers were actually better than they expected. Some people experienced relief. So we have a wide range of experiences here, which is beautiful and makes sense when you take, you know, tens of thousands of people from around the world. And all of it is right. No matter what came up for you around this, all of it is right.
Kate Northrup:And if it was something that didn't feel good in your system, if it was shame, if it was judgment, if it was fear, if it was anxiety, what I have for you today is going to help you to love yourself right across those edges and stay with yourself right across those edges instead of suffering through the edges or instead of backing away from the edges. Every time we meet resistance, all we are meeting is a part in us that feels scared. And I'm going to give you something today that is something you can do every time you meet that part of yourself, every single time. And I hope you see in the chat that you are not alone. Simply knowing that you're not the only one experiencing this softens that edge right away.
Kate Northrup:Remember, I said this already, but I'll just say it one more time. Your resistance in the form of fear, shame, judgment, freak out, overwhelm, confusion, feeling like it's too much, impatience, boredom. Your resistance is not a problem. It's evidence that the solution is already underway. So here's what we have that's more for you in store today.
Kate Northrup:I know we have already done so much. We're receiving so much today, but also I'm going to give you, I'm going to walk you through that practice to signal safety to your body so that you can expand your edges around abundance anytime on demand, anytime you need it. I'm also going to share with you four specific routes to get from your now point to your North Star when it comes to money. So from where you are now financially to where you want to go, there are only four routes to get there. And I'm going to help you choose which one is right for you today.
Kate Northrup:So you'll know that walking out of here today, you'll have that clear route. You're also going to get a visceral experience of what financial safety feels like so that you can Xerox it, so that you can imprint that feeling onto yourselves, so that you can come back to it over and over and over again, anytime you need. And finally, I'm going to share 25 income boosting levers that you can use on demand anytime you need them to bump up your money, and none of them require you hustling harder. Right? Because hustle is where life force goes to die.
Kate Northrup:And that is not what we're doing today. Okay? That's not that's not the game we are playing. We are playing the relaxed money game. And so nothing I'm gonna suggest to you means sacrificing what matters to you.
Kate Northrup:When we make a conscious choice to lean into repatterning our money nervous system thermostat using nervous system healing tools, and I'm about to share one of my favorites with you, what ends up happening automatically, I just love this, so I want to remind you the benefits, is we update our wiring, which updates our identity, which updates our beliefs. We also open up all this space and bandwidth and capacity to learn new skills, to actually learn new strategies. So listen, like stocks are going on sale right now, right? Things are a little wonky in the market, which means things are going to be lower, which means now would be a great time to lean into tools and resources about how to invest your money. The good news is there are those tools and resources inside Relaxed Money.
Kate Northrup:I'll talk more about it later, but I wanted to make sure you knew that that's coming. And when you learn how to use those tools and skills, you can actually get huge benefit. But we can't learn those strategies. We can't implement those strategies if we are dysregulated with a limited narrow band of capacity where we're just like, la la la la la la la la, my nervous system just wants to keep me exactly where I am, and therefore I cannot learn anything about the stock market or how to invest, right? We also find that when we work on repatterning our nervous system and repatterning our neural pathways, feeling good actually becomes more available.
Kate Northrup:If you think about your money nervous system thermostat, think about what it felt like in your upbringing around money. Was feeling good the primary feeling available? Let me know in the chat. I'm seeing a lot of no's. I'm seeing a lot of no's.
Kate Northrup:Okay. So if feeling good was not the primary feeling available, your money nervous system thermostat is not going to be by default available to have you feel good with money. But when you repattern your nervous system and work on your neural wiring, feeling good actually starts to feel possible and then starts to become automatic. Now, when all of these things happen, when we update our wiring, update our identity, update our beliefs, learn and practice new skills and strategies and feel good, we get new results. Money shows up.
Kate Northrup:We invest. Things change. We move towards becoming work optional. All kinds of things happen. It's already happening for people in this workshop, and it will happen for you too as you keep going.
Kate Northrup:Last time we did this workshop, somebody in the Facebook group shared this photo from their morning walk with their dog. And I had to pass it along because it just speaks so beautifully or it illustrates so beautifully what we're talking about. She looked at this tree, and eventually this I'm sorry. Originally, this tree, I'm sure, was plant was planted, and it was like a little round tree trunk. Right?
Kate Northrup:That's how trees are. They're they're not square. But because the container, the space, the capacity that this tree has available to grow is just this little square in the sidewalk, the tree just grew up to its edge, and then that's it. Right? It just was only able to fill its container, the end.
Kate Northrup:Everything outside of that is a concrete block. This is us with our nervous system capacity around abundance. This picture speaks 1,000 words. Okay, you ready to go to our workbook? If anybody wants a little physical reset, just let's take a deep breath.
Kate Northrup:One more. Okay. Switching gears, page 29 of your workbook. It says day two at the top of it. So last time I said that there was some extra credit homework, and if any of you did this, this will be a review.
Kate Northrup:But if you didn't, now's the good time. The question I had posed is, where will you be twelve months from now if you maintain your current money nervous system thermostat setting? So if you maintain what you're set for right now, what's going to happen in twelve months? Where will you be? And I want you to be specific.
Kate Northrup:So write it down in your workbook, but also pop it in the chat. So, we have in the same place, in the same month to month struggle I'm in now, in more debt, frustrated. Yeah. So be more anybody who can be more specific, I'm gonna encourage you to be more specific, living paycheck to paycheck, depending on my mom for support. Yeah.
Kate Northrup:So words like broke and struggling are they are words that might describe it, but I want you to get visceral here. Meaning, the more specific we can describe the result of staying exactly where we are, the more activating that can become to make us realize, oh, well, I need to do something different. And so I love now we're seeing some more specificity here. Yeah, more specificity. Okay, great.
Kate Northrup:Changing gears. Now, where will you be twelve months from now? So April 2026. April '20 '20 '6. Where are you going to be twelve months from now if you update your money nervous system thermostat?
Kate Northrup:Not get specific, like let this one feel good. And I want to give you a warning, which is that many people, I haven't looked at the chat, but I know this, many people will say, I won't be XYZ. So they'll define the specificity of where they'll be if they change by what they won't be experiencing. That's not the way. If we want to rewire our subconscious, we need to speak in the positive, because our subconscious does not know the difference between me saying, I will no longer be in debt, and me saying, I'll be in debt.
Kate Northrup:Right? So our subconscious doesn't hear the no longer. And so I want to have you speak it in the present positive tense. I will be in a much higher tax bracket. I will owe more taxes than I ever have, and I will have more than enough to pay it, and I will feel grateful paying it.
Kate Northrup:That one's great. I love that. I will be able to go to Europe. I'll go to the beach weekly, and I'll have a new car. I'm able to travel four times a year.
Kate Northrup:So great. These are really specific. So you're doing awesome with the specificity. So specificity, actually, there's a reason I'm not just saying this just because specificity activates engagement in our emotional resonance. And when we activate engagement with our emotional resonance, it actually makes it more relevant and salient to our subconscious.
Kate Northrup:So it's part of rewiring ourselves. The specificity helps you to actually feel it now. And what that does in your body is it says to your body, This experience is safe. So it helps you to grow past those edges and soften the edges of your own little concrete sidewalk box and expand beyond by the specificity of your desire. So let it be visceral.
Kate Northrup:And we're going to do an experience about that in a minute. As we get into the jewels I've got for you today, I want to invite you to try on these four questions. These four questions will change your life. You have heard it before. The quality of your life is determined by the quality of the questions you ask yourself.
Kate Northrup:You want a better outcome? Ask yourself a better question. So as we get into things today, today's going to be practical. Today's going to be strategic. You are walking out of here with a strategic action plan to increase your prosperity.
Kate Northrup:That's going to be what you'll have at the end of today. And that might bring out some of your dysregulation and your fear patterning, and that's okay. That's welcome here. All of you is welcome here. And here are four questions.
Kate Northrup:So you can screenshot this and use it anytime. Number one, ask yourself, how could I? Right? So instead of I can't, how could I? How could I?
Kate Northrup:Instead of that's not possible for me or that doesn't apply to me, ask yourself, what would need to be true to make this possible for me? What would need to be true to make this possible for me? Curiosity, it has a resonance. Curiosity has a resonance, and that resonance will soften your edges around your current nervous system capacity. Curiosity in and of itself will dissolve an edge.
Kate Northrup:What would it look like? So instead of like, I don't know how or I'm, you know, people like me don't XYZ, what would it look like if, what would it look like if I was making money in a way that wasn't trading hours for dollars? What would it look like if I was solving a higher level problem and adding more value to a higher level customer? What would that look like? When we ask these kinds of questions, it automatically primes our subconscious to answer.
Kate Northrup:Our subconscious loves a good question. It also loves a bad question. It will just answer the question that you give it. So why not give it a beautiful question and why not use your subconscious as the incredible source of magical insight that it can be by priming it with a beautiful, powerful question. And then where most people will ask, what do I need to do to get XYZ?
Kate Northrup:You're smarter than that. And you now know to ask, who do I need to be? Who do I need to be to achieve financial security? Who do I need to be to be work optional? Who do I need to be to have $100,000 a year in my business?
Kate Northrup:Who do I need to be to be completely financially solvent? You don't even have to answer these questions. Just practice asking them. Okay. I'm gonna turn off my slides for a minute here.
Kate Northrup:And as we get into an exercise, just keep those questions in mind. So wherever you are, I want you to, if you're in a place that you can do this, ahead and softly close your eyes or just have a soft gaze. So I want to make sure as we play this, that we are hearing the audio. I think we are not. So just hold hold the phone.
Kate Northrup:K. Team, are we are we able to have you you can't hear my audio, can you? Because I can't hear my audio, so I can't imagine that you can hear my audio. Not sure what to do about that. So, Takesha, do you mind playing a are you able to just play a meditative song and maybe we can figure this out later?
Kate Northrup:Let me know if you can do that, Takisha. Yes, I know you can hear me, which is great. Thank you so much. And I'm going to invite you to, as we see if we can get some music playing, I'm going to invite you to close your eyes. And Takesha, if you are able to play a little meditation music, that would be great.
Kate Northrup:And if not, the sound of my voice will be perfect. So wherever you are, closed eyes, soft gaze, bring your attention to the soles of your feet. And bring your attention. Oh, there it is. Okay, great.
Kate Northrup:And bring your attention to your seat if you are seated. As you settle in here, let yourself enjoy an audible sigh inhaling up your spine. Exhale. One more time. As you become present to the sensations inside your body, particularly the stability in whatever your seat is touching, wherever you're sitting, or the stability in the soles of your feet if you are standing.
Kate Northrup:Bring yourself to twelve months from now. It's twelve months from now and you have received your absolute most beautiful financial outcome. A year ago, you began investing in repatterning your nervous system around money, And now you are reaping the rewards. You're experiencing the freedom. You're experiencing the security.
Kate Northrup:You're experiencing the relaxed abundance that you always knew was available to you. I want you to notice where you are. You're in a place where you feel so safe, so luxurious, so held. Look around. What do you see?
Kate Northrup:What colors? What shapes? What does this environment look like? Take it in. Now what do you feel texturally?
Kate Northrup:What do you feel temperature wise? How do the clothes that you're wearing feel on your body? What are you wearing in this moment of celebration of how far you've come, of celebration of the healing that has transpired, and of celebration that your money nervous system thermostat got updated. And now this not only feels beautiful, but also feels really normal. Like, yeah, of course, this is my life.
Kate Northrup:What are you wearing? What's the texture of the fabric? Are your feet touching moss, sand, beautiful heated saltwater pool? What are you feeling? What are you touching right now?
Kate Northrup:What's the texture of the moment? Allow yourself to enjoy it. Now what do you hear? What sounds? Is it the rustling of the leaves with a light breeze?
Kate Northrup:Seagulls on the shore, a babbling brook. What are you hearing? The laughter of your guests in another room, your children giggling. What's the sound of this moment? What are you noticing are the aromas in the space?
Kate Northrup:Are you smelling the earthiness, oil? As you walk in your garden, are your roses in bloom? Is it the salt air fresh pot of coffee, hibiscus tea, Signature aroma of your favorite spa. What's present for the aroma? Breathe it in.
Kate Northrup:And finally, what do you taste? Perhaps you're sipping your favorite adaptogenic seltzer out of a wine glass, and it's fizzy and effervescent in your mouth. Maybe it's your favorite fruity botanical tea. Maybe you're at a steak dinner. What are you tasting right now?
Kate Northrup:What does abundance taste like? Favorite. Favorite like you would a warm, juicy, freshly picked wild strawberry at the peak season. Now revisit. What are you seeing?
Kate Northrup:What are you feeling? What are you touching? What are you hearing? What are you smelling? And what are you touching and tasting?
Kate Northrup:Let those sensations imprint your body, imprint your nervous system cells. Expand the feeling. Let it feel good. Know you can come back to those sensations anytime because they are part of you now. Bring your attention back to the soles of your feet, back to where your seat hits the chair.
Kate Northrup:Maybe give your shoulders a roll, your hips a little wiggle. Taking a breath in, coming back to our space together, and in your own time, fluttering your eyes back open. Thank you. A reminder that that meditation is part of this replay. So you're welcome to come back to it as often as you'd like while the replays are available.
Kate Northrup:That felt so nice. I'm just gonna just gonna yeah. Oh, good. That felt really good. Thanks for going there with me.
Kate Northrup:Now I'd love to ask, is there anybody who experienced during that a reason why they can't have what they want? And if you did you can just say me, we don't have to give more energy to the reason. But, and so I'm seeing some people, so if part of your experience, which is welcome, the whole experience is perfect. There is no right way to do this. There is no wrong way to do this.
Kate Northrup:So simply by being here, you are receiving the experience that is ideal for you. And if something has come up in terms of the reason that you can't have what you want, I'm gonna ask you, is that reason Let's pretend the reason was I don't know how. Right? So I want x y z. You know, I wanna have a hundred thousand dollar business.
Kate Northrup:I wanna have ten k months. I wanna have a net worth of a million dollars or whatever it is. Right? And what came up for you is I don't know how. Is that based on the past, the present, or the future?
Kate Northrup:So those reasons that we can't have what we want, is it based on the past, the present, or the future? Mhmm. Great. So for those of you who are saying the past, correct. Yeah.
Kate Northrup:What you just envisioned, you haven't had before. So it makes sense that your past would tell you, I don't know how. Because that's true. In the past, you didn't know how. For those who said it's in the present, correct.
Kate Northrup:Thoughts about why we don't get to have what we want are based in the past, and they are based in the present. And the thing is that we are living currently in a reality that our past self created. So our past self was acting a certain way. They had a certain way of being that then created certain ways of doing things that now has created an experience of what we are having right now, today in our lives. And that was based on the past.
Kate Northrup:So the past self, our past self, and and partially our ancestral programming as well, is creating our present reality. And then we keep looking to the past and the present for what's possible for us, and our past and present self tells us what's possible for us. And then we wonder why we keep ending up with the same money blocks, with the same income ceiling, getting a bunch of money, then finding ourselves in debt again, getting a bunch of money, then overspending, or not able to ever get past a particular situation in our money life and, honestly, in our love life. Like, this is the reason why people find that they keep dating the same person over and over and over again. It's because the reasons we have for why we can't have what we want are from the past and the present.
Kate Northrup:And then we wonder why we can't ever create something new. It's because we just keep Xeroxing the past and the present. Would it be helpful to know a way to interrupt that cycle? Would that be helpful for you? Yeah.
Kate Northrup:Okay. Great. Let's do it now, shall we? I'm going to teach you one of my absolute favorite nervous system healing tools. And this is a go to for when you notice that you're in a habitual thought pattern, when you're impatient, judgmental, feeling anxious, feeling overwhelmed, or even when you've experienced a financial expansion and you want to lock it in.
Kate Northrup:So nervous system healing tools can be used essentially anytime we want to, stay with our edge, anytime we want to metabolize stress, or anytime we want to anchor in something beautiful. So really they can be used for so many things all around repatterning ourselves to habitually operate in the state of being and the state of doing that we desire to be able to have what we want to have. So this one is called the butterfly hug. But before we do it, I'm going to teach you an assessment tool. So we can assess our nervous system at any given time to see its current state of capacity.
Kate Northrup:And one of my favorite ways to do that, and for our VIPs, you got this one early on Friday, but we're going to learn it together now. So go ahead and put your feet, about hip width distance apart and point your fingers in front of you, kind of like you're in that Charlie's Angels picture. And so you're going to point your fingers in front of you and just rotate and notice where you point So do it a couple of times so you can just kind of work out the kinks. You don't want to crank your back here. This is not for stretching.
Kate Northrup:This is just for noticing your current range of motion. Okay, cool. Now keep your feet where they are. And if you're not able to stand, this can be done seated. Sitted.
Kate Northrup:Sitted. Now you're going to take your arms and you are going to cross them over your shoulders. So cross your arms over your shoulders. It doesn't really matter which one is on top or below, but I usually do my habitual side. There's probably benefits for doing your non habitual side, but habitual side is fine today.
Kate Northrup:And then you are going to simply tap opposite side shoulders. You can stay with my cadence. You can do it a little slower. You can do it a little faster. If you feel like you could use a little extra intensity of this nervous system healing, you could close your eyes and just see what that feels like.
Kate Northrup:For some of you, though, that's going to create dizziness, so that would not be a positive response. So you can keep your eyes open if that created dizziness for you. Maybe we'll just do a few more. Notice what happens with your breathing as we do our butterfly hug. Right.
Kate Northrup:Take an integrating breath. Nice. Now let's go back to our assessment tool. Put your arms back out in front of you, your pointer fingers, and then go ahead and rotate and see, did you get any more range of motion compared to before? So was it an increase, neutral, so no increase or decrease?
Kate Northrup:If it was an increase, awesome. That's going to be a supportive tool for you. If it was even if it was slight. If it was a neutral, you could come back to that one another time. If it was a decrease, then but you know that last time you enjoyed the washing machine exercise, I'm just going to finish us off with a second tool for those who had a decrease.
Kate Northrup:It's not the most optimal thing to end on a decrease, so we're just going to do the washing machine again, which is what we did last time. And this one is you would have, so you'll do an assessment again. So I'm just giving you two tools for the price of one. So you can do your assessment here and just do an assessment again. It's really helpful to do an assessment before a tool because it really helps you to see with your nervous system, was this supportive or not?
Kate Northrup:Because every nervous system is different. And an increased range of motion means that you have expanded your capacity in your nervous system because when our bodies are dysregulated, our bodies constrict and armor up. So a decreased range of motion means that your body is having a signal of a fear response of some kind. And so an increased range of motion, especially at a site of rotation, We tend to armor up around our sites of rotation. So when we increase our range of motion in terms of our rotation, it means that we've increased our capacity.
Kate Northrup:Okay. So we're gonna do the washing machine again. And this one was just flopping back and forth with your arms. So we'll do the washing machine a few times. You could add in some audible breaths.
Kate Northrup:You might want to put your feet a little wider. You can keep your face facing forward on this one. Sometimes the rotation requires looking forward so you don't get dizzy. Everybody's a little bit different. Okay.
Kate Northrup:Now let's see how that did for us. So put your pointer fingers out. Let's see. Okay. Increase, decrease, nothing.
Kate Northrup:Amazing. That's a very high payoff tool for me. Doesn't mean it's gonna be for everyone. But now you have the butterfly hug, and you have the washing machine. So these are two excellent tools to put into your toolbox, and you can use them for when you wanna anchor in a win, if you wanna anchor in an expansion, if you want to anchor in a realization or a breakthrough, if you want to metabolize stress and move past a feeling of resistance that shows up in a lot of different ways that we've already talked about, and if you want to just build to learn something new, to show up in a more present way, to transition from work to home, there's so many different ways we could use them.
Kate Northrup:And we get way more into use cases of specific nervous system healing tools for specific moments around your money in relaxed money, but I wanted to make sure you had some to walk away with. Okay, great. So now if you had something come up, remember we talked about something that came up around a reason you couldn't have what you wanted to have. If you are present to that right now, does it feel more true or less true than before? So when I asked you, do you have a reason that you can't have what you want?
Kate Northrup:Okay. So I'm seeing from people that it feels less true. Yeah. Do you see how that works? And I want to ask you, did you change or did your circumstances change?
Kate Northrup:Did anything in your external circumstances change? No. That was, like, five minutes ago. Nothing outside you've changed. You changed.
Kate Northrup:Do you feel how powerful that is? So you had a thought. And, you know, maybe on a scale of one to 10, it was like a six of a limitation, a reason you can't have what you want. It's not helping you out. I promise you that.
Kate Northrup:Telling ourselves why we can't have what we want is not a useful strategy. But instead of going in and trying to prove ourselves wrong and meet our mind at the level of the mind, which can usually lead to us playing mind games with ourself and spiraling out in the land of the intellect and sort of like that, you know, my mind is not a good neighborhood to go alone at night. I think that's an Ann Lamott quote. I love her writing. Anyway, so when we use the mind to try to fix our mind, we often just get ourselves in this little intellectual knot, intellect knot.
Kate Northrup:Instead of, let's signal safety to the body. And then when you revisit the thought, it's kind of like, oh yeah, actually that doesn't feel true anymore. I'm just gonna keep on staying tuned to abundance.fm so I can receive all the beauty and all the goodness and all the gifts that already have my name on them, but I wasn't available to even notice when I was in a state of dysregulation, when I didn't have access to my resonance, when my receiver was not turned on. So doing practices like the butterfly hug and many of the tools that we use for this healing work actually change our frequency so that we become receivers for everything that was already available, right? Like, in this moment, if you had a radio, you could pick up a hip hop station, a Latin station, a country station, a, you know, soft and easy favorite station.
Kate Northrup:All those stations are available in the airwaves right now. We are receivers. There are a lot of different realities operating right now, and they're all available. But we have to learn to tune our receiver to the station we want. And the station I love to talk about, one of my favorite stations to listen to, is abundance.fm, where synchronicity shows up constantly, where you get the right piece of information or the right connection or the right introduction or the right book at exactly the moment you needed it.
Kate Northrup:That happens when we are consistently, every single day updating our wiring through these kinds of practices and through this kind of community. Isn't that exciting? Yeah. Cool. Okay.
Kate Northrup:I think so too. Okay, we're gonna go back to the slides. In a minute. It's a good moment to feel your feet on the ground as I activate my tech muscles. Weird.
Kate Northrup:I do not have my slides anymore, but I can get them back. So just hang tight here with me for a minute. Feel your feet on the ground. Give yourself a little wiggle. Here we are, and I was on this slide.
Kate Northrup:I'm gonna share. Here we are. Great. K. Cool.
Kate Northrup:Team, we good here? Just wanna make sure you can see my slides. Yeah, okay, great. Thank you. One thing that came up for some folks around taking a look at their numbers on the now point in the workbook on page 19 is a feeling of shame.
Kate Northrup:And now that I have worked with thousands and thousands of people around their money and and in my own healing journey, I can tell you that financial shame is common. I've yet to meet anyone who hasn't, at some point and sometimes over again at new levels, experienced some degree of financial shame. And I wanted to offer to you that there's a little exercise that you can do to help dissolve shame. One of them is the butterfly hug and the washing machine and being here in this space. But I also want to offer another, and that is that if you share your shame with someone safe, it does tend to dissolve the shame.
Kate Northrup:Shame is like a big old anvil waiting us down and preventing us from moving forward towards the bright financial future that we desire, and that really is our birthright. And so what shame kind of festers and grows when we keep it to ourselves. But when we share it with someone safe, it diffuses its power and it dissolves the shame, and then we're able to reclaim all this energy to be able to move forward. And so if you have been experiencing financial shame and any shame came up from the numbers that you did on your worksheet, I want to invite you to find someone safe to share it with. Now, sharing it in the Facebook group is not sharing it with a safe person.
Kate Northrup:I'll tell you why. That Facebook group has nearly 8,000 people in it who are all wonderful, you are them, but you don't know them. So that's not actually safe. That's not the exercise. What I mean is to find one person in confidence to tell.
Kate Northrup:I got a beautiful voice memo from somebody in this workshop last week. I know, I know her. Just sharing some of the behind the scenes, and she was feeling some kind of way about it. But she was able to share it with me, and I was able to reflect back immediately, like, yeah, it's common. Right?
Kate Northrup:Like, it's common. And just knowing where you are turned on location services. Right? Now we know our now point. And if we can dissolve the shame by telling a safe person, I was that safe person for this human, because it was a one on one interaction, it enabled her to free up all this energy and be able to move forward.
Kate Northrup:Right? So my safe person was a woman named Janice. She was a woman back when I was in a lot of debt and I originally got clear on my numbers. Was like, Oh, God, I had so much shame about it. And I told Janice, and Janice helped me to feel like, Oh, I'm not a complete screw up.
Kate Northrup:I, this is okay, we can move forward from here. So it was a compassionate space. I'm going to encourage you to tell a friend, tell a loved one, someone you know loves you unconditionally. Do not tell your naysayers, right? Like, don't tell somebody who you've had experiences in the past where they're negative and they say not helpful things.
Kate Northrup:That is not a safe person. A safe person is that friend who you could tell them anything and they will never judge you. So find that person. And the other thing that might be helpful is if anybody here is experiencing financial shame, or has in the past, can you just go ahead and let us know in the chat? If you are don't say what the shame is, but just say like, Yeah, I Yes, yes.
Kate Northrup:Okay, great. So do you see how many people are and for those of you listening to the replay, I just want to let you know, the chat is going wild with people saying me and yes. How does it feel? How does it feel to see all of these other people who also have or are experiencing financial shame? Yeah, it feels freeing, right?
Kate Northrup:That I'm not alone. It lightens it a bit. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So I wanted to offer that for anyone to be able to just dissolve the shame and be able to reclaim the energy that has been being leaked towards shame.
Kate Northrup:I'm gonna go back. Okay. As soon as I click over on the slide, there's gonna be music and a video playing. So I wanna to make sure that I have shared my slides with the proper setting. And then we're going to get into that.
Kate Northrup:One of the places that this can Oh, good, I've already shared. Okay, great. That's so exciting. One of the places that is so powerful around this ability to have community to melt our edges and co regulate is at an event we do one time a year called Relaxed Money Live. And people have a lived experience in forty eight hours of upgrading their money nervous system thermostat to the next level because of the power of getting into the room.
Kate Northrup:What? Okay. Hold on. How did that happen? Okay.
Kate Northrup:Stand by folks. I appreciate your patience with my tech. A lot of windows. Okay. All right, here we go.
Kate Northrup:I'm going try one more time. There it is. Okay, great. So when we get in the room with other people who are also playing a big game and who are committed to healing on this level, it really changes things. So I'm going to play a little video to give you a sneak peek at the energy that happens at this event.
Kate Northrup:Okay. So that is an event that happens in February 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee. No details are out yet, but I wanted to have you keep an eye out for it because it is one of those moments where we can update and upgrade really fast as a continuation of the seeds that we're planting right here today. Let's go back to our workbook. Let's wiggle it out, maybe give it a little bounce, little shaky shake, transitioning, and you are going to go to page 30 of your workbook.
Kate Northrup:So go ahead and turn to page 30, and this is your fill in the blank moment. So this is a very grounding moment. We are coming back to the linear path of the workshop. We are coming back into the grounded activity of filling in a workbook. So money is made up.
Kate Northrup:It is a simple stand in for what we value. Human beings made up the system thousands of years ago. You know, it used to be a barter system where it'd be like, okay, cool. So I have this one cow and you have these two sheep and let's trade. But what if then the person with the sheep doesn't want the cow?
Kate Northrup:What if the person with the sheep actually wanted vegetables from the person down the road instead? So we came up with currency as a way to have a stand in for value so that we could trade essentially the currency, which is the stand in for what we value, not the thing itself. Now money is actually neutral. Money is neither good nor bad. It is a neutral substance like fertilizer.
Kate Northrup:It just grows what you put it on. So if you put fertilizer on beautiful peonies, they will absolutely blossom and grow. If you put fertilizer on crabgrass, it will absolutely grow. And that's a little bit of a hard analogy, I have to be honest, because I don't believe there's like any bad plant. But if you have a garden, you do know that there are the seeds that you planted and the plants you planted and there are weeds.
Kate Northrup:And if you put fertilizer on it, everything will grow just whatever you put it on. So people with more money are not inherently good or bad, but adding money to any particular substrate tends to fertilize and enhance what's already there. So if you add more money to someone who's conscious and awake and aware and has a beautiful, generous giving heart, the money tends to expand their capacity to be that way. And same with the opposite. So what are we tuning our receivers for?
Kate Northrup:And what are we gathering evidence for? In life, we can either be gathering evidence for what we want, or we can be gathering evidence for what we don't want. We actually do have a choice. And there's a part of our brain that is always sifting and sorting. We have like 400,000,000,000,000 pieces of information available to us at any given time.
Kate Northrup:And so our brain needs to do a serious sifting and sorting process to make sure that we're not just massively overstimulated and not able to take action on anything that's coming in. And so it sifts it way down. It narrows it way down through something called the reticular activating system. There's a part of our brain that essentially is looking for salience, like, Is this important? Salience means this is important, this matters.
Kate Northrup:And we can train our reticular activating system to be paying attention for information that proves our desire is on its way, that we get to have what we want, or we can be training our reticular activating system for everything that's terrible, everything that's bad, and why the world is going to hell in a handbasket. Now, at any given time, there's a whole balance of stimulus and information going on around the world. But if we want to be part of creating a more beautiful world, if we want to be part of creating the new earth, it's actually our responsibility. It is our responsibility to be devotional around what we put our attention on. And the cool thing is when you actively put your attention on that which you want to see more of, you get more of what you want to see.
Kate Northrup:That's why I encourage you at the beginning today to begin to celebrate and notice synchronicity. That's your reticular activating system. Because if I'm thinking like, Okay, cool. So I'm really interested in growing my podcast. I'm really interested in growing my podcast.
Kate Northrup:So I'm going to consciously start to celebrate other female podcasters. I'm going to start to look at and start to pay attention to and start seeding my subconscious, which is always sifting and sorting for what it's going to present to me as information and opportunities, I'm going to start to consciously put my attention on successful female podcasters. And I guarantee you, I will start getting more introductions through, you know, the freaking algorithm that's listening to us all the time. They'll be surfs to me. And then we can start to use the universe, use the world, use our external experience as the algorithm that is constantly feeding back to us that which we've been putting our attention on.
Kate Northrup:Now, the reticular activating system is also neutral. So it will sift and sort negativity for you to prove all the terrible things. And it will sift and sort that which is supportive of your most expansive becoming, which I promise. And we talked about this on day one. But when you activate your reticular activating system to be in support of your most expansive, powerful self, you are for sure doing better for others on the planet.
Kate Northrup:You cannot get sick enough, broke enough, or miserable enough to help people who are struggling. However, when you are consciously activating your power, consciously healing, and consciously showing up with your big, open heart, you can't help but a positive influence in other people's lives. And so part of how we activate the reticular activating system is being in workshops like this, being around community like the community in this group, doing the homework and doing the nervous system healing techniques so that when you find yourself in a negative tailspin, when you find yourself going into a spiral, doesn't mean you're bad, it doesn't mean you're screwing up, but it does mean that you need to signal safety to your body so you can build the capacity to come on back to the path of what you want instead of beating the drum of what you don't want. And your reticular activating system is there to support you every single step of the way. So it can do the sifting and sorting for you, but you have to train it.
Kate Northrup:Some of us, actually every single one of us, every single one of us has things we say we want, and then we get a secondary gain from not having them. So for example, four years, I wanted to be in financial solvency. I wanted to stop overspending, and I wanted to dissolve my debt, otherwise known as invoices for blessings already received. I wanted that. However, it took me several years to actually do it.
Kate Northrup:Why do you think that is? Why is it that we can't just snap our fingers and get what we want immediately? Well, you know, we've talked about all the neural patterning, but there's another piece in here that's helpful to begin to understand, and that is called secondary gain. And secondary gain is something that we get to experience and be or not experience and not be as a result of not actually getting what we want. So for me, I and I'm going to keep an eye on the chat here because I want to see if this is a breakthrough for everyone.
Kate Northrup:For not everyone, anyone. When I wanted to get financially powerful and play a bigger game, my secondary gain for not actually doing that so my secondary gain for continuing to spend more than I made was that actually, I didn't have to be a financial adult. So the secondary gain was I got to continue to act like a child on some level. And there was a part of me that liked that. However, eventually, the part of me that wanted to be in my full financial power was able to get stronger than the part of me that wanted to play small so I could not have to take responsibility fully for my life.
Kate Northrup:Is this resonating with anyone? What do you think your secondary gain is? Just let me know. Anybody know off the top of your head? Oh, the chat's actually going too fast for I get to complain.
Kate Northrup:My secondary gain is I get to complain. You know what a sneaky one is? This comes up for a lot of people. Many close relationships, especially in families, are bonded through mutual pain and a connection about mutual suffering. And so the secondary gain that many people have from not healing their financial lives is that there's a connection to their family of origin that comes from the collective experience of financial struggle and lack.
Kate Northrup:And actually, there can be some level where it feels like betraying your family if you go and break that pattern. And that is something that you can signal safety to your nervous system through, because the truth is when we heal our own patterns, we heal seven generations back and seven generations forward. And we know this from the science of epigenetics and the way in which our DNA passes along traumas and joys ancestrally. So we actually are updating our legacy when we do this work in real time on behalf of our children and then also on behalf of our ancestors who did not have the resources, the support, the technology, or the access to education to know this stuff. So if you're feeling like you're up against an edge and your secondary gain is staying connected to your family in the disordered behavior around money or the disordered thinking around money or operating, know that you going out and being the first is actually healing to everyone in the entire lineage.
Kate Northrup:And you get to be the one to be that liberation on behalf of the collective. Some of them will come with you and some of them won't. And that is there is, that's just true. We can get into that another time. Okay.
Kate Northrup:We already talked about that. My friend and mentor Barbara Hewson says our ambivalent relationship with money is related to our ambivalent relationship with our power. Our ambivalent relationship with money is related to our ambivalent relationship with our power. If you're a woman listening to this right now and you're afraid of standing out, you're afraid of being as powerful as you know you can be, you're afraid of being visible, being financially powerful. I want you to know it makes sense.
Kate Northrup:Right? We have a long history that lives in our DNA of women having been unsafe when they are powerful. The witch wound, there's so many layers here. So if you come up against an edge where it feels unsafe to be visible, to be powerful, to really go for it, it makes sense. It's not your fault, but it is your responsibility to do the work to shift it.
Kate Northrup:And that's obviously why you're here. So congratulations, you're already doing it. And every time a woman comes up against her edge of capacity around her power, and then she signals to her body and she that she's safe, and then she expands her capacity, she softens her edge in that moment. She actually not only changes her own life, she makes it more possible for another woman because our bodies are constantly reading the room. So whether it's on social media, whether it's in person, in your networking group, in your office, in your industry, in your family, in your friend group, when one woman expands, it actually through collective mirror neurons, through the process in which when we see another person we relate to, when we see them experiencing something scary, it actually creates collective nervous system imprints.
Kate Northrup:But when we see someone who we relate to going for it and expanding past their previous edge, it actually changes our neural patterning and it makes it more possible for us. So you going first actually shifts everything on behalf of everyone that you touch in your corner of the world. It's so exciting. It's so exciting. But only if we practice something I call financial compersion.
Kate Northrup:I'm not going to tell you what that is right now. I'm just going to leave it there. However, I'm writing it down. And there's a moment at the end of today's training where I'm going to teach you how to practice financial conversion, and we're going to have an opportunity to practice it together. So know that that's on its way.
Kate Northrup:Okay, Every time we want something, but our current programming is telling us we can't have it, because if I go for it, then my family will disown me, or I don't know how, or if I go for it, you know, XYZ thing is happening. There is something that our neural patterning is trying to keep us safe from experiencing. I'm gonna give you a practical example, and then I want you to get clear on your specific example. Years ago, I was thinking about using my voice in a more powerful way and sharing more of what felt true to me publicly on social media. Like, I could tell I was holding back.
Kate Northrup:And I knew that that wasn't possibly the best use of me in this lifetime. I just knew that there was more available. And I had a wonderful coach. Her name is Ra Gottes. And Ra had me actually identify what specifically was the fear of what would happen if I went for it.
Kate Northrup:And I said, Well, I'm afraid of what people think. And she was like, No, no, no, no, no. That's not specific enough. Who? Whose voice is it?
Kate Northrup:And when she pushed me, which is what love can do, love can just lovingly hold our little toesies to the fire. And that's what I'm going to do with you today. She held my toes to the fire and she said, No, no, no, who specifically? And what was so ridiculous is that when I specifically, I articulated who I was afraid of. It was this one rando lady on the Internet who had a tendency to write negative comments on whatever I shared.
Kate Northrup:And I was holding back on my entire expression, not only on social media, but also on my podcast and my blogs and my emails and my programs, because of this one negative Nelly online, who honestly, like, I didn't even respect. I didn't even really care. But I was letting the subconscious, hazy fear that had no name hold me back. It's like this feeling that there's a monster in your closet. Right?
Kate Northrup:And you don't want to open the closet because it's like, it feels scary. But then when you open the closet and you turn the light on, you realize there's no monster in there. And so I want to ask you, what specifically is your current programming keeping you safe, quote unquote, safe from experiencing? Okay. Then I'll put a divide or separation between my husband and I.
Kate Northrup:I'm afraid of what a former boss will think. I'm afraid of what Tony, Donna and Jen will say. Okay, for those who are saying fear of failure, I'm going to come back to you because there's actually more there. Somebody's saying I will be humiliated. Leonardo, I want you to even be more specific.
Kate Northrup:Be humiliated by whom, doing what, like be specific. So for somebody, it's my mother. For other people, it's my mother. If it's not one thing, it's your mother. I mean, that's going to be true for everyone, right?
Kate Northrup:Yeah. Okay. So once you have articulated who specifically or what specifically are you trying to keep safe from experiencing, that can help to dissolve some of the weight of that. Another example from my own life is I realized that part of what was holding me back in my career and going for it was that growing up, when I was, kind of coming into my, like, preteen years, so actually about the same age my daughter is now, 10, 11 or so, my mom got famous ish. And she started being on Oprah and, like, the Phil Donahue show, and her books were New York Times bestsellers.
Kate Northrup:And I started getting attention for my mom showing up all over PBS and all over the place. And other kids teased me for it, and I didn't feel like I had choice about the attention that I was receiving because it wasn't something I had done. And folks made all sorts of assumptions about that and what it meant for me, and it continued on. And it made me feel separate from my group of friends. Like, I always just wanted to be one of the girls.
Kate Northrup:I really wanted to belong. I wanted my mom to be like the other moms. I wanted to just kind of, like, blend in. And all of this experience of my mom's career created a situation in which I felt like I was made to feel separate somehow. And I didn't like it.
Kate Northrup:So I could feel as my business was growing that there were opportunities to take myself more seriously and go bigger, but I wasn't doing it. I was holding back. And when I did this specific exercise and asked specifically, what is your current programming keeping you safe from experiencing? What I realized is that it was keeping me safe from re experiencing the feeling of being separate from this particular group of girlfriends that I was part of growing up that I'm still part of. We are in a text chain.
Kate Northrup:We see each other a couple times a year. It's wonderful. And I was telling the only slightly conscious story that if I really went for it, I would then no longer belong in that group, and I would feel loss and abandonment. And I realized by just opening the closet and turning on the light, that actually what's true is these women love me no matter what. They don't care what I'm doing in my career.
Kate Northrup:I mean, they celebrate it, but that's not why they love me. And for those couple of dinners or girls trips a year, I don't need to hold back my entire career so that I can have some kind of shrinking for those events. Like I can just be all of me, and they love all of me, and I get to belong with them because of our shared history. It has nothing to do with my career or how big I go. So it's so helpful once we begin to do the nervous system healing work to then have, then we have more capacity with our cognitive brain to look at these thoughts and be like, actually, that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.
Kate Northrup:Okay, you know what? I'm not going to hold back my entire career. So during this one dinner a year, I'll have this sense of love that's actually available no matter what. Right? So I know I'm not the only one who has this.
Kate Northrup:And so you're doing such a beautiful job sharing this in the chat, and you can keep sharing it in the Facebook group again, also. As you're reading through, as you're experiencing this, and then after today's workshop, what you're going to see is that what scares you is the same thing that scares everyone else. Being left out, having a sense of abandonment, being embarrassed. Being judged. Those are like, these fears are absolutely universal, which makes them feel less of a big deal.
Kate Northrup:It's like, Oh, wait. So every human being is wired exactly the same? Yep, pretty much. Pretty much. We're all just we we crave belonging.
Kate Northrup:We crave safety. We crave connection. We crave love. Awesome. Okay, cool.
Kate Northrup:So what scares us is just going to be the opposites of those things. And so how do we come up against those edges of fear? We add more love. We add more connection. We add more safety.
Kate Northrup:That's what we're already doing in this workshop. Now for those people who said, I'm afraid of failure, The thing is, we're not actually afraid of failure because you have failed plenty of times. I have failed plenty of times. Anybody out there in the world who you admire, whether it's a filmmaker or a celebrity or an author, every single person has, quote unquote, failed many, many times. That's universal.
Kate Northrup:So it's not the failure that we fear, it's what we are making the failure mean about us. So if you said, I'm afraid of failure, I want you to go a little deeper and ask yourself, okay, well, what would I make a failure mean? You know, in my own life, we've had events that we sold where no one bought a ticket. We've had launches that we expected 100 people to sign up, and we had two. We have had programs just literally where it's crickets.
Kate Northrup:We have had our email open rates tank overnight. We've had tech issues. I have given speaking gigs where I bombed. I have given webinars where I bombed. I have failed so many times.
Kate Northrup:But the thing is, every single time I fail or I just don't get the result that I expected, I have information I've now learned. And if I can approach it with the increased capacity, the increased energetic capacity that we've been working on building, if I can approach it from that vantage point and I can work on my nervous system healing tools and then show up with more peripheral vision to see the truth, what the truth is is that every time we get any kind of result, whether it's what we wanted or what we didn't want or what we expected or what we didn't expect, we are getting great information. So when I do a webinar and I bomb, right? And no one makes us no one buys, I now can go back and say, oh, it's so interesting. Okay.
Kate Northrup:Now I know that doing x y z thing doesn't work. So that's great information to move forward. This is your invitation to view failure as compost. Okay? When I make a meal and my children leave little bits and pieces on their plates, I don't go into a shame spiral of like, I have failed as a mother.
Kate Northrup:I have failed as a cook. No. We put it in the compost bin, all those little bits and scraps, and then all the leftover that didn't get utilized goes back into the earth to fertilize new growth. That is all quote unquote failure is. It is fertilizer to grow new neural patterns, to grow new ways of being.
Kate Northrup:So I hope that that, that invitation and that reframe is helpful for you. We're going to now go back into our relaxed money map. So if you need to just do a little shake transition, we are going to move back. We're going to go to page 20 in your workbook, which is part two. It is your North Star.
Kate Northrup:And this is going to be your homework today. So homework today is going to be page 20. At the end, I'll remind you how to submit it. So remember, last time we talked about if I want to go from Miami to LEGOLAND, I have to turn on location services. And we did our now point from page 19 of the workbook, which was the first part, part one of your Relaxed Money map.
Kate Northrup:Today, we're doing part two, which is your north star, your financial north star. It's where you're going. Right? So I put in LEGOLAND in my GPS because that's where I wanted to go. So last time we did our current location, this time we're doing our desired location.
Kate Northrup:I'm calling it our North Star. Part two, your North Star. So my North Star, Fill in on your workbook, page 20, a specific amount of money that you would like to have in annual income, in your savings, or in your net worth. That's what you're going to fill in on the top of page 20. So it's a specific amount in annual income, savings, or net worth.
Kate Northrup:You will have a tendency to want to put by when. And I'm going to invite you to take off the timestamp. Everyone loves to talk about SMART goals that are specific, measurable, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and time bound, the T. Here's the thing. When we put a time limit on our goals, it often creates anxiety and dysregulation.
Kate Northrup:Why? Why? Why would we add in something that's going to add extra dysregulation to a world that is already a bit dysregulating? So this is not a timeline. This is just, what do you want?
Kate Northrup:What do you want? Okay. So write it down. And if you are having trouble with this, I'm going to ask you a question. And that question is, if anything were possible quickly, easily, and now, and I knew I couldn't fail, and I knew that everyone in my life would benefit and be completely psyched for me, what would I want in either annual income, a total amount of savings, or my net worth?
Kate Northrup:And if you want to put a number for all three, you know, go for it. That'd be great. Now, I'm going to go back to my flip chart, I think. Yeah. So we will have a real tendency to avoid putting down a number because that's our old neural patterning.
Kate Northrup:So our old neural patterning will show up as vagueness. So a lot of people will say you'll say, what do you want with your money? Oh, I want financial freedom. I want security. Well, what would what would you need to have in numbers in order to have that?
Kate Northrup:I don't know. I never thought about it. Right? So vagueness is a way we deflect our desires and keep ourselves safe. Vagueness is a way we stay in our comfort zone instead of in expansion.
Kate Northrup:But the thing is, how will you know if you've achieved financial freedom? How will you know if you've achieved security? How will you actually know if you have the safety you desire if you haven't put a number to it? So what does the number what does freedom the freedom you seek, the security you seek, being work optional, what does all of that mean in actual numbers? And that's what you're gonna put on page 20.
Kate Northrup:So as an example, you would put, I my North Star is $500,000 in annual income. Or my North Star is $60,000 in savings total. Or my North Star is $500,000 in net worth. So that's what I meant by that. Okay.
Kate Northrup:Now when you achieve your North Star so once you get to your North Star, how will you feel? How will you feel? And you can put this down on the side. We don't really have a spot for it on the piece of paper, but you can just write it wherever. So how are you gonna feel when you get there?
Kate Northrup:What would you be able to feel that you don't feel like you can feel now? What would you experience? What would you be able to experience at that point that you can't experience now or think you can't experience now? Right? So I'm seeing safety, freedom, safe, I'd be relaxed, calm, safety, freedom.
Kate Northrup:Everyone says safe and free. Right? I wanna be safe. I wanna be free. So what would you be able to experience?
Kate Northrup:What would you feel? What would you be able to do? What would you be able to do? And what would you have? What would you have?
Kate Northrup:Yeah. Okay. Great. Awesome. So for many of the people who are sharing, the way all of their experiences here oh, I'm sorry.
Kate Northrup:All of the words they're using are not actually, for the most part, things that cost money. Why is that? Because nobody actually just, like, wants money sitting in the bank. Money sitting in the bank is not what we're interested in. We're interested in a state of being that we crave.
Kate Northrup:And what we think is that having a certain amount of money will allow us to feel a way that we don't have access to feeling now. Now the great unlock, the big secret, is that in order to be able to feel the way we want to feel, all we need to do is practice feeling that way now, which is so wild and crazy, but it's true. Let me see if I can find my slides again. I don't know why these keep going away, and I really do appreciate everyone being patient with me. Right.
Kate Northrup:So just keep working on that page in your workbook, and I will pull up my slides over here. K. Great. If you need something to do while I find my spot, feel your feet on the ground. K.
Kate Northrup:Here it is. Alright. Cool. So I'm finding myself sort of adorable right now. Here we go.
Kate Northrup:Alright. Team, are we good? Are we good here? All good now, I think. I'll just get confirmation.
Kate Northrup:So the only way you're gonna get to your North Star number is if you give your relaxed money map, meaning the part two North Star, what it needs by being the person it needs you to be now. So the key to this is, okay, most people look at a number like what you wrote in and ask themselves, what do I need to do? But the truth is if you wanna reverse engineer that number, it is far more important to take a look at, okay, so not what are the people doing who have a net worth of $500,000, but who are they being? Because I guarantee you, if you took ten, twenty, one hundred people who all have the income level that you want, the net worth that you want, the savings that you want, the things they did to get there would vary widely. But the person they were being to become the kind of person who did the kind of things to then have what they want to have would have a lot more in common.
Kate Northrup:So the only way you're gonna get to your number is if you be the person who already has it. That's the great unlock. We think that we don't get to feel the certain way we want to feel until everything in our life is the way we want it to be. I thought that, too. I thought I didn't get to relax until Mike was not sick.
Kate Northrup:I said, Until my husband is well, I do not get to relax. And you know what? That was making me sick, which would have prevented me completely from being able to make income. That would have definitely not been the way to go. So in order to have what we want, we have to start acting the way right now from the beginning, which has to come from feeling that way right now.
Kate Northrup:So if you wanna feel free, if you wanna feel safe, if you wanna feel secure, you need to practice feeling that way now. Because the more you practice feeling that way now, the more those neural patterns get rewired because we get really good at what we practice. You already know that. We get really good at what we practice, yet most people are out here practicing feeling anxious, practicing feeling overwhelmed, practicing feeling annoyed and irritated at the world. But instead, you can revolutionize your entire life by practicing feeling the way you want to feel, which will make acting the way you need to act to have the things you want to have completely inevitable.
Kate Northrup:And you do that with nervous system healing first. When you give yourself permission to feel the way you want to feel now, you'll get to your North Star faster, but it has to start inside us first. You already know this by now. I'm going to repeat it. If you're waiting until your financial circumstances change, then you're going, you're giving your power away to money.
Kate Northrup:If you're waiting for everything to change financially in order for you to feel the way you wanna feel, you are giving your power away to money, and you are saying money is more powerful than I am. And anytime we give our power away to something outside of us, we are letting it have power over us. And that's not what money is for. Money is for us to exchange value for value. It's a currency system.
Kate Northrup:Money doesn't want to have power over you. Money doesn't want to have that much power. That is not its proper use. Money is here to align with our values so that we can make our spending a prayer and create a more beautiful world. So who is ready to stop giving their power away to money?
Kate Northrup:Who's ready? You want to tell me in the chat? Who's ready to stop giving their power away to money? Yeah. Amazing.
Kate Northrup:Okay, I am so with you. So in order to do that, we need to answer the following questions. And I want to know what does having that North Star number get you? What does having that North Star number get you? And what does it make possible for you that really moves you on a heart level?
Kate Northrup:Really moves you on a heart level. And then even further, you can really ramp up your ability to manifest and magnetize when you connect your desire with how that serves humanity, or the rest of the world, the planet, the animals, whoever. So what does your North Star number get you? What does it make possible for you that really moves you on a heart level? What we know is that the electromagnetic field of our heart is like 65 times larger than the electromagnetic field of our brain.
Kate Northrup:So our heart is communicating at 65 times the power of our brain. When we walk into our room, our heart walks in first. When we connect our desires to our heart, there's actually an entire group of nervous system cells in our heart. There's so much evidence that our heart actually has its own consciousness, that our heart actually holds memories. And so activating our heart, the part of us that feels, that connects to something with that sense of this is meaningful to me, this matters.
Kate Northrup:When we add that into our desires, then we're cooking with yes, right? So in addition, we are meant to be conduits of abundance. We are meant to call in divine radiant substance, life force energy, creative energy, inspiration, innovation, and pull it through us, through our minds, through our hearts, through our bodies, and make it manifest in the world. And that impacts other humans, other beings. It can impact the entire planet.
Kate Northrup:My friend Mickey Agarwal is a great example of this. She had this idea when she found out that there's a certain kind of mushrooms that can eat plastic. She went about creating a company based on plastic eating mushrooms because of our single use plastic issue on the planet. And she has created a company with their first product being a diaper that is self eating because it includes plastic eating mushrooms. And it just like literally disintegrates through this process.
Kate Northrup:So cool. That's an example of her connecting her desire, and she she has had multiple 10 exits. She does very well financially. She's an example. She's coming up on the Plenty podcast in a couple of weeks.
Kate Northrup:She's an example of someone whose North Star moved to her much more quickly because she connected into what matters to her and allowed it to be connected to how is that going to serve others? How does that go beyond me and my own needs to the needs of others? And many women are super, super wired this way anyway. But the thing is, we have to understand is we don't want money for money. After our basic needs are met, it's really not a good motivator, and it really doesn't make us any happier.
Kate Northrup:But you want to know what does move the needle on our happiness? A sense of purpose, a sense of agency, a sense of connection, and a sense of contribution. All of those things really bring us tremendous amounts of joy. So let's connect our North Star number to those things, and it will amplify the rate at which that number reaches us. I don't even want to say the rate at which we reach that number because I want you to realize that you are a living, breathing magnet, And that which you seek is also seeking you.
Kate Northrup:And it can find you much more clearly when you connect in to what truly matters, because that is what money is for. That is what money wants to move in the direction of. There are four possible routes that you can get to your North Star. One is you can increase your income so that the difference between your income and your expenses is greater. So you have more monthly cushion, like more leftover at the end of the month, so you can increase your income.
Kate Northrup:Two is you can decrease your expenses, and that also helps you have more left over at the end of the month. Three is you can decrease your liabilities, like your credit card debt, or I like to call it invoices for blessings already received. When you decrease your liabilities, then you have more leftover, right? Because you're not paying the, student loans or you're not paying your credit cards or whatever. Or number four, you can increase your assets, meaning the things that Britt put money in your pocket, by using the increased monthly cushion.
Kate Northrup:So the increased difference between your monthly expenses and your monthly income, when you make that difference bigger, you have more monthly cushion to then invest in assets like stocks, bonds, real estate, businesses, crypto, all those things are assets. That's another conversation for another day. But just know that it's part of our Relaxed Money curriculum to learn how to invest in assets to get your money growing for you. So those are your options. So you can increase your income, you can decrease your expenses, you can decrease your liabilities, and you can increase your assets.
Kate Northrup:Pick one to focus on first. Pick one to focus on first. So this is on page 20 of your workbook. You're just going to check off the one that you are going to choose to focus on first. Now let's say you're going to choose the route of increasing your income because increasing your income is the one thing that does make everything else easier or inevitable.
Kate Northrup:Increasing your income allows you to have more money to invest in assets. It allows you to have more monthly cushion left over to be able to pay off your invoices for blessings already received. So let's just go with that one as our example. So how is money exchanged? Money is exchanged in exchange for the perceived value of the exchange, right?
Kate Northrup:It is also exchanged according to a sense of mutual trust, which is baked into the perceived value. And it is also related to energetic trust and emotional trust. So when you make an investment, like let's say you go and invest in a coach, Okay? You are investing in that coach because of the perceived value of their expertise, their mentorship, and the information or modeling that they can pass along to you. And it's also based on a sense of mutual trust and value.
Kate Northrup:And there's a trust in the energy, and there's an emotional trust there as well. So that's how money is exchanged. I mentioned this before, but money is just a stand in for what we value. Money is just a stand in for what we value. And so if you want to increase your income, you need to add more value.
Kate Northrup:If you want to increase your income, you need to add more value to somebody else's life. And one of the best ways to do that is to start with valuing yourself more. One of the best ways to do that is to work on healing your nervous system, because when you heal your nervous system, you become more present to the truth, which is you are an infinitely worthy, valuable human being whose gifts are unimaginable and so brilliant and beautiful, and that your sheer existence on the planet makes it a better place. And then you can go out and take that feeling to the market in more specific ways, which I'm about to get into. You can make a list of ways that you can add more value in your current business, your current job, or something else entirely.
Kate Northrup:So if you have your own business, there are a lot of ways that you can add value to your current customer and clients' lives. I'm going to get into a list in a minute. If you have a job, if you work in corporate, in a small business, this still applies to you because you can add value in your company. One of our students of Relax Money, Patty Alfonso, came into the program after needing to shut down a, what used to be a multi 6 figure business. Because of COVID, a bunch of things happened, and she ended up going to get a job.
Kate Northrup:In that particular job, first of all, she was able to find herself a job after a toxic one. She found herself a new job and instantly gave herself a $25,000 raise. And because she added so much value in that job, she got her full bonus six months early, and they gave her a 5% pay raise because she was adding so much more value inside the company. So there are so many ways to do this. The questions to ask yourself are, and these are on page 30 in your workbook, by the way, so you don't have to write every single one of them down.
Kate Northrup:But the questions are, what do people already thank me for? What do people already thank me for? That's a way you could add value, right? Because if people are already thanking you for it, you're probably already adding value there. What have they already asked me for advice about?
Kate Northrup:What have they already asked me for advice about? What do people come to me for? Like, consistently, even if it's my friends, even if it has nothing to do with what I do for work, what do people consistently come to me for? What problems do you see in the world that drive you crazy or break your heart? What problems have you already solved for yourself That would be a valuable problem to solve for somebody else.
Kate Northrup:And what transformation have you already undergone in your own life that you could teach someone how to walk through? Those are all going to point you in the direction of how you can add more value. Spend some time with this. You know, if you're listening to the replay, pause here. Spend give put a timer on for fifteen, twenty minutes, like really get in here.
Kate Northrup:There is gold in these questions. Now, you can increase your ability to make more money by doing some of the following. You can go ahead and take a screenshot of this slide. By easing people's path. So for example, I hired a life coach about a year ago because I was having some real energy and digestion problems, and I was getting a fever every single month.
Kate Northrup:It was ridiculous. I knew she had all these online programs that I could have bought for like a couple hundred bucks. But you know what? I just wanted to hire her directly because I just wanted her to give me just the high level stuff that I could do personally. I was willing to pay her so much more money for that one hour of time than it would have cost me to buy her online programs, but I didn't want to go through all that stuff.
Kate Northrup:I just wanted one hour of her time personally to walk me through the most relevant stuff for me. She eased my path and sped up my success, and she also provided me an exclusive experience. So those are all three examples. You can save people time, money, or energy. You can provide specialized knowledge, right?
Kate Northrup:How could you provide specialized knowledge that you have that other people don't have? How could you simplify something for people? Right? Like, we have a relaxed money cash flow management system that simplifies money management for people. It takes a lot of the guesswork out.
Kate Northrup:Could you make something more fun and entertaining to add more value? Could you make it more convenient? For example, a company like HelloFresh. Right? HelloFresh makes making dinner really convenient.
Kate Northrup:They send you all the pre chopped, pre measured ingredients with the recipe, and you just put it all together. You don't have to think through, do I have the right ingredients? How much do I do? What recipe should I do? No.
Kate Northrup:So like bing, bang, boom, bada bing, much more convenient. Making dinner convenient. Can you help people get the results with less stress and less effort? And can you do it differently than other people? Can you how can you do it differently than other people are doing it?
Kate Northrup:A whole other page of ideas. You can screenshot this to save it. You could train people to get the same result over and over again. Right? So instead of you needing to be there, you could train people to be able to get the same result for themselves.
Kate Northrup:You could consult with people, you could provide accountability, you can do done for you services or done with you services. You could provide coaching one on one or in a group. You could offer tools or templates, right? Like maybe you have an amazing template for prompts for AI that gets you incredible results in less time. Those sorts of tools and templates are incredibly valuable.
Kate Northrup:You've done the work, you've put in that groundwork, and now you could offer that because that's really valuable. You can offer people support, you can offer your network or your resources, and you could even apply your skill set to a whole new problem or industry. So these are possibilities to really get you thinking. Now, if something's coming up for you where it says, I don't have any of these skills, this won't work for me, that's where I'm going to invite you to go back to those four questions. How could this work for me?
Kate Northrup:What would this look like for me? How could this be possible? And who would I need to be in order for this to be possible for me? Now as a bonus, this is on page 31. If you're stuck or you want more input, you can text 10 people with the following question.
Kate Northrup:Hey there, can you answer a super quick question with the first thing that pops into your head? Now wait for their response. You'll get a lot more responses if you leave them with a cliffhanger of curiosity like that, which is just a hot marketing tip. Wait for their response. And when they respond with yes, or sure, or of course, you say, what's one way that I add value to the world or your life that you think I probably take for granted?
Kate Northrup:See what people respond with, and there will be some gold in there. See what is in common. I have a warning for you, and that is that the most valuable thing you contribute will very likely be something that feels effortless, and therefore, you'll be likely to discount it. You will be likely to discount it. The fact that something feels easy to you makes it feel less valuable to you because we've been conditioned that in order to make money, things have to be hard and we have to sacrifice.
Kate Northrup:The whole banging the drum of like, hard work is the only way to succeed makes the opposite. When something feels easy, if we're adding value somewhere that feels easy and then we make money for it, then we suddenly start to feel guilty and like that's wrong. And so we avoid opportunities to make money in ways that feel easy. And in fact, when there are opportunities right in front of us, our reticular activating system can't even see them because we've programmed our subconscious to believe that making money has to be hard. So we don't even see all the value we could offer.
Kate Northrup:That feels really easy. Practical example of this, my sister texted me a similar question as the one on the last slide about how she really makes a difference in her clients' lives. And I'm not her client, but I'm her sister. So I've received her gifts many times. And I was able to provide to her exactly what it was.
Kate Northrup:I think she's like an incredible intuitive, but specifically, she has a laser focused intuition that helps people to grab onto the diamond of, like, the thing that they need to focus on that cuts away all the extra distraction and, like, helps them to know to double down on this, and everything else is a distraction. And she asked me for an example of when that had been helpful to me, and it was recent. I was comparing myself to another person who teaches about money, and I was feeling like maybe I needed to be more like him. And I was kind of, like, in my head about it, and I was feeling a little wah wah. And she just, out of nowhere, was like, hey, I noticed that folks who come to your events or, you know, are giving you feedback, give you feedback about how safe they feel with you and how safe they feel and how loved they feel in your community.
Kate Northrup:And I was telling myself this story that maybe I needed to be more aggressive. Maybe I needed to get in people's faces more. But she instantly, with her diamond laser insight, was able to come in and give me the exact reflection I needed to save me so much time and energy and distraction from trying to be a different way. She saved me a lot of time, money and energy. And her reflection was, wow, that's so interesting because that was effortless for me.
Kate Northrup:So oftentimes the way that we can offer the biggest value is going to feel somewhat effortless and therefore we will discount it, which is why we need coaches and community to help mirror back to us what is valuable that we offer. So Annie, my sister, Anne C. Moller, shout out to you. This is called your free space. So your free space is that place where you can offer unbelievable value that you may take for granted.
Kate Northrup:But I don't want you to take it for granted. What is your free space? Texting people in your life will help you. Now there are a couple of levers to help increase the value you provide while decreasing the time it takes to create that value. And this is on workbook page three.
Kate Northrup:I do want to say I made an error on workbook page three. So at the bottom, there's a fourth thing. You can just cross it out. I didn't include it on the slide. It doesn't mean that it's wrong.
Kate Northrup:It just means that doing that fourth thing won't necessarily decrease the time it takes to add that value. The way that you can increase the value you provide while decreasing the time it takes to create that value, meaning not trading hours for dollars, is to solve a higher level problem. So if you can solve a higher level problem for people, they will pay you more. Not for more time, but just for the higher level problem. Right?
Kate Northrup:So let's say I am a health coach, and I know how to support families with kids with celiac to navigate the world in a gluten free way. That's a higher level problem than just like, I'm a health coach for kids, for moms and, you know, parents, right? Very different higher level problem. You'll get paid more for that. You could solve a more specific or specialized problem.
Kate Northrup:I guess that's sort of a similar example. You could solve a problem for a different kind of person that values that solution even more, Right? So in the book, 10x is Easier Than 2x, there's a great example of a freight company that was offering freight services to all kinds of companies. They had a couple of companies that had a type of freight that was really, like, fragile in terms of it required a specific amount of a specific temperature, a specific delivery procedure. It required all this specific, like, highly specialized ways of treating that delivery.
Kate Northrup:And so that company knew that those companies that needed that highly specialized freight delivered, that company knew that those clients would pay more. So they took their attention off of being the freight company to everyone and put their attention on being the freight company for these specialized companies that had their highly valuable, highly volatile freight that needed all these special considerations. So hopefully, those give you some examples to apply to your own life. This whole conversation invites you to start seeing all the possibilities that you can make more money without trading time for it. We're just getting started with that conversation.
Kate Northrup:There's so much more to come, but, I hope that that's opening some things up for you. And that really is the conversation about leverage, which means getting paid multiple times for the same number of hours worked. Getting paid multiple times for the same number of hours worked. People are not, and I'm about to give you a really powerful example, people aren't paying you for how long it takes you to solve their problem or provide their solution. They're paying you for how valuable the solution is.
Kate Northrup:And when you speak to what people already want, this becomes a lot easier. Okay? Here's an example. A couple years ago, I came back from Maine to Miami, and in our condo, the air conditioning was broken. Now, you do not want to be in a condo in Miami in August with no air conditioning.
Kate Northrup:It was freaking hot. So we called in an air conditioning guy. He was there within a couple of hours, and it took him about fifteen minutes to fix the air conditioning. I think it costs, I don't know, $800 or something. I was thrilled to pay him.
Kate Northrup:I didn't think, oh, gosh. Wow. It only took him fifteen minutes. I'm not going to pay $800 for something that took him fifteen minutes. No.
Kate Northrup:I was thrilled that it only took him fifteen minutes. I was thrilled to have hired the best air conditioning guy and pay for all his previous years of experiment not experimenting, of, experience so that I could get cool fast. You can get paid more to deliver a high value solution to the right person at the right time. They do not care how long it takes you to get them that solution. In fact, it is more valuable if you deliver it faster.
Kate Northrup:And when you relate to people from the level of your power, meaning your years of experience, your years of expertise, your years of education, your years of practice and study, When you relate to someone from the level of your power and talk to them, like in any kind of sales conversation, in any kind of discovery call, in any kind of pitch, in any sales environment, when you are talking to a potential customer, whether you are in your own business or you work for someone else, if you relate to someone else at the level of their power and you're talking to them from the level of their power, you will be more likely to make the sale. You will be more likely to receive money. And we so often do this thing where we're like, Oh, I'm going to charge less because that person can't afford it, or I'm afraid that they won't want to pay for it or what, that's you getting in someone else's pocketbook. Get out of their pocketbook, talk to them at the level of their own power and their own dignity, give them the dignity of making their own powerful buying decision and getting the transformation that comes from a transaction that they've consciously decided to make because of their own desire to solve a problem that they're already aware that they have.
Kate Northrup:Okay? We so often hold back our earning potential because we're all up in people's pockets and purses and trying to make buying decisions for them. And honestly, not only is that keeping you financially small, it is also this strange, sneaky way of having this false superiority complex that you could possibly know better about how someone else should or shouldn't spend their money or how they might or might not want to. Give people the dignity of their own buying decisions, relate to them on the level of their power, and get out of their purse. So what do you do next?
Kate Northrup:You're going to go through your list of possible ways to add value. You're going to choose one and you're going to flesh it out. You're going to spend some time with a notebook, get in there, Use a nervous system healing tool, build capacity, and then revisit this. Obviously, after this workshop, we've been here and, you know, this has been a full time together, and we're almost at the end. However, you can take this to the freaking bank.
Kate Northrup:Okay? And then you're going to take the first next step. You'll send the email. You'll make the Facebook post about your beta group. You'll gather the committee in your office.
Kate Northrup:You'll write the text. All you need to do is just the next right thing. We worked with a beautiful human on this during our VIP, and you can do this, too. So an example is we knew that we had all these customers asking us for a course. This was back in 2012.
Kate Northrup:And I kept telling them that they needed to wait until my book, Money, A Love Story, came out, until Brilliant Mike, my husband, was like, Hey, why don't we just make a course so that they can have access to it now instead of waiting for when your book is published, which was like nine months later? And so in one weekend, we put together a simple sales page. We put together the PayPal link. We did the whole thing. We sent out a couple of emails.
Kate Northrup:We monetized before we made it. We made all of these sales. I don't remember, we made $20,000 for the first course. It was crazy. It was a $97 product.
Kate Northrup:And we did that because we weren't waiting for it to be perfect. We were just taking the next right step. You don't have to know every single step. All you need to do is ask yourself, who do I need to be? And when you're being that person, when you're asking yourself, what would the abundant empress or sovereign do?
Kate Northrup:You will be guided. Your subconscious will find the exact right next step for you. Focus on the people who need what you have to offer because more income will often mean more impact. So if you can focus on where is there a need that I can meet, you're gonna be on the right track. Now okay.
Kate Northrup:Now this is I'm gonna play this in a minute. This is the part. We're gonna have a moment to digest, and we are nearing the end of this segment. We're just on the home stretch here. I want you to now practice financial compersion.
Kate Northrup:Okay? This is something I came up with. Compersion is when somebody gets pleasure when their partner has pleasure. Now in the world of the online space and being able to see what other people are doing in the world of celebrity or even the world of your neighborhood, we have a tendency to look at other people and see what they have or see what they're experiencing and be like, oh, nice for you. Must be nice.
Kate Northrup:And go into lack and limitation and let the fact that they're having that mean that we can't. I'm going to invite you to turn on your receptor sites to be available, to open up to receiving and let watching these two beautiful humans be evidence that you get to have it too. And even take it one step further and see what it would feel like in your body as you're listening to Valentina and Sarah's story to feel what it feels like in your body to open up to this kind of abundance and receptivity. That's financial conversion. That is they're having it, and I am too.
Kate Northrup:So I'm gonna play the video. Let's make sure the video Hi.
Guests:We are Sarah and Valentina.
Kate Northrup:So I'm just gonna pause. Did that video did you hear the audio when I played that? Great. Oh, look at us.
Guests:Okay. We are a couple on a journey to redefine our relationship with money. When we joined Relax Money last year, we were off our corporate jobs. We were starting a new business, and we were living over savings. We were anxious.
Guests:Money felt heavy, like something we didn't wanna look at, even scary. Before relaxed money, I avoided looking at my numbers. I thought tracking expenses would make me feel trapped. Kate taught me that financial awareness actually creates freedom. Now we do quarterly financial snapshots and we have weekly money days where we check-in, plan, and make decisions without stress.
Guests:We also learned how to regulate our nervous systems around money. This wasn't just theory. We've been practicing daily for almost a year now, and the impact has been huge. Even during one of the most stressful times of our lives, Sarah's eczema, which always flared up under stress, never showed up. Today, we are in a beautiful place in Colombia, surrounded by nature and abundance.
Guests:Our business is growing, and most importantly, we've learned that our well-being and worthiness aren't tied to our bank account balance. As someone who identifies as gender non conforming, something that really drew me to this program was Kate's inclusivity. Not only in her language, but in how she really able to participate fully in all the offerings, but also ask our questions individually, and it made all the difference. If you are considering Relax Money, do it. It's so much more than just a program.
Guests:It truly is a transformation, and it's one of the best investments we've ever made.
Kate Northrup:Amazing. So you're gonna have an opportunity in the Facebook group to vote on our Relaxed Money case study finalists. So these folks have the opportunity to win a couple of great prizes. One of them is a half day VIP session with me and Mike. Another one is a VIP Relax Money Live ticket, and another is a Relax Money Live ticket.
Kate Northrup:And in the Facebook group, we're going to be posting Sarah and Valentina's video as well as the two videos I'm going to play during the next workshop. So keep an eye on those. Now you know how to increase your income. So we really went into that today. You have a lot to work with there.
Kate Northrup:And I know it's a lot to digest, and I believe in you. I know you have what it takes to take this information and take it to the bank. Jeff Kern, the founder of Pranashakti, for helping me with his dance guidance at the end to help us all digest. So use your elbows, use your knees, just kind of bending.
