Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

Welcome to the Student Activities Online Leadership Toolbox. Today on Inspired Leadership, I'll be talking about staying motivated while motivating others. Start by thinking about someone who inspires you. Picture a person who's positive, engaged, and driven. Now recognize what sets them apart.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

They take action, stay consistent, and influence others through their energy and mindset. Now, define motivation. Motivation is movement. It's action. It's the drive that pushes you forward, even when challenges arise.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

Next, focus on how to stay motivated. When obstacles appear, don't stop. Adjust. Take a step back and refocus. Ask yourself, what is my goal?

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

Why does it matter? And how does this help me and others? Now, find the good. Identify the value in what you're doing. Reconnect with your purpose.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

And use that purpose to fuel your progress and keep moving forward. Next, make your goal known. Share it. Communicate it. Tell others what you're working toward.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

When you involve others, you increase accountability and strengthen your commitment. Now make the process enjoyable. Add energy to your work. Play music. Take breaks.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

Move around. Create an environment that keeps you engaged and refresh. Next, reward your progress. Celebrate your accomplishments. Recognize your effort.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

Reinforce positive behavior so that you stay motivated over time. Now shift your focus to others. Understand that you can't control others, but you can influence them. So start by modeling behavior. Show enthusiasm.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

Bring energy. Demonstrate commitment. When others see your excitement, they are more likely to engage. Now, communicate openly, share information, keep your team informed. When people understand the bigger picture, they're more likely to take ownership and stay motivated.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

Next, build connections, encourage interaction, listen actively, and show respect. Make others feel valued and included. Now use simple actions. Say thank you, show appreciation, and recognize contributions. Small gestures can create a big impact on motivation.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

As you move forward, stay consistent. Lead by example, encourage growth, and support others while continuing to strengthen your own motivation. And that's it. Let's review what was presented. We discussed how to stay motivated by focusing on purpose, setting goals, creating positive habits, and influencing others through energy, communication, and appreciation.

Lucy Bivins-Zheng:

Remember to take action. When you stay motivated and inspire others, you create momentum that drives success. This podcast was presented by Student Activities at Minnesota State University Mankato. Thank you for participating. You can find other podcasts at mnsu.edu/activities/toolbox.
