What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”
John 5:24 NASB2020

This is the verse of the day in the Bible app. today. Normally, when God has not put something on my heart the night before or when I wake up, I start my scripture reading in the Bible app. Most of the time God uses the verse of the day to draw me to another scripture, thus revealing to me what God wants to say.
Today, God said use this verse. Rarely does just one verse reveal so much. It is not very often that one verse can be used without context of the other verses surrounding it. However, John 5:24 Jesus uses the perfect words. He tells us we have everlasting life. All we have to do is believe that God sent Jesus. He says if we believe that, we are no longer under judgment, we have passed from death to life.
John has written down the words spoken by Jesus that He is the savior promised. It is this revolutionary idea that Jesus is the Messiah. John has twice written the words of Jesus regarding Him as Savior, in the first 5 Chapters. First when Jesus talked to Nicodemus in John 3 and then here in chapter 5 when He is speaking to the Jewish leaders of Jerusalem.
Jesus had just healed a paralytic and the leaders in the Temple were upset that Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath.
Jesus takes this opportunity to tell all who gathered around to hear the debate of who He was and what He came to do. The amazing truth, that not only did He have the power to heal broken bodies but He had the power to forgive all sin and give eternal life.
Jesus then tells all who would listen that John the Baptist and others have been testifying that Jesus was coming as Messiah.

When we, as followers of Christ, use the words of Jesus to testify to who He is, the amazing happens. People’s souls are saved, forgiveness and reconciliation occur and lives and communities are changed.
John 3:16-17 and John 5:24 are simple and clear verses spoken by the Messiah explaining who He is, what He has done and what He will do. He has come to heal, save and reconcile us to God for eternity.
Let us share that, which is the perfect Gospel message spoken by our Savior Jesus Christ.

Lord thank you for your simple Gospel message. Help us to share it as you shared it. Help us to humble ourselves and allow your words to work in us. We pray all these things in Jesus Name Amen…
