đď¸ The Hidden Cost of Success for Business Owners: Lion Counseling Podcast Episode 92
Youâve built something meaningful. People depend on you. Youâve learned how to carry responsibility, make difficult decisions, and keep moving forwardâeven when the pressure is high.
But what happens when that pressure starts changing you?
In Episode 92 of the Lion Counseling Podcast, Mark Odland, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified EMDR Therapist, speaks directly to business owners, entrepreneurs, and other high-achieving men who carry the weight of leadership every day.
From the outside, things may look strong. The business is growing. Youâre providing for your family. Youâre getting things done. But underneath the surface, decision fatigue, accumulated stress, unresolved experiences, and the constant weight of responsibility can begin affecting how you think, lead, and relate to the people closest to you.
At Lion Counseling, we work specifically with men navigating these kinds of pressures. For some men, trauma-focused therapy such as EMDR can help address deeper unresolved experiences and accumulated stress that continue to shape how they respond under pressure. For others, the work may focus more on habits, patterns, stress responses, and behaviors that need to change for leadership to remain sustainable.
The goal is not to force every man into the same approach. Itâs to understand what is actually happening beneath the surface and determine the right path forward. This episode explores:
â The hidden cost of carrying significant leadership responsibility â How decision fatigue and chronic pressure can affect your relationships â Why successful men can struggle even when life looks good from the outside â How unresolved experiences can influence your reactions under stress â When trauma-focused work such as EMDR may be appropriate â Why sustainable leadership requires more than simply pushing harder â How Lion Counseling works with business owners and high-achieving men If youâre building something meaningful but beginning to feel the weight of itâor you want to address the problem before you reach burnoutâthe next step is a Clarity Call.

The podcast is hosted by the founder of Lion Counseling, Mark Odland (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified EMDR Therapist), and Zack Carter (Counselor and Coach with Lion Counseling). Mark Odland:
Hi, I'm Mark Odland, licensed marriage and family therapist and certified EMDR therapist and founder of Lion Counseling. Many of the men who come to us are business owners and entrepreneurs, men who carry the weight of leadership, decision making, and responsibility every day. Men who value faith and family, and men who I often see each year when I attend Dave Ramsey's Entre Leadership Summits. And from the outside, things look strong. Right?
Mark Odland:
The business might be growing. People are depending on you, and you've learned how to keep moving no matter what. You just keep moving forward. But over time, the level of responsibility can take its toll. The pressure doesn't shut off.
Mark Odland:
Decision fatigue builds, and what starts out as discipline and drive can slowly turn into strain and reactivity and even patterns that begin to affect your relationships and your clarity. At Lion Counseling, we work specifically with men navigating that kind of pressure. And for some, the real issue is deeper, unresolved experiences or, accumulated stress that continues to shape how you respond under pressure. And in those cases, trauma focused work can help resolve these drivers and restore steadiness. For others, the challenge is more about patterns, habits, stress responses, ways of carrying responsibility that lead, to behaviors that aren't helpful and that need to shift in order for leadership to remain sustainable.
Mark Odland:
Here at Lion, our role is to help you identify what's actually going on under the surface and match you with the right path and the right professional within our team. If you're building something meaningful but feel the weight and the pressure of and it's starting to affect you, how you lead, how you relate, how you think, the next step is to schedule a clarity call. We'll listen to your situation and, help you decide whether it's because you're already burned out or if you're catching it just in time. Whatever your situation will help determine what the best path moving forward might be. And because success shouldn't come at the cost of clarity, relationships, or your long term stability, by God's grace, with the right work, it does become possible to break free, to heal deeply, to become those lions, those steady leaders that you were created to be.
