Shalom Aleichem, dear friends. Today, we delve into Chapter 41 of the Tanya, the fundamental text of Chabad philosophy. Authored by the Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, this chapter explores the concept of Love and Fear of the Almighty.
In this chapter, the Alter Rebbe presents a profound idea. He explains that the love and fear of the Almighty are like the wings of a bird, elevating a person's divine service to higher realms. Love alone, or fear alone, is incomplete. A bird with only one wing cannot fly. Likewise, a Jew who serves with only love or only fear is lacking in his service.
Let's translate this into our daily lives. When we do a mitzvah, let's not just do it out of habit. Invoke love and fear. Love for the privilege of serving the Almighty, and fear of the potential to stray from His path. This infuses our divine service with a depth that elevates it, making it more than just a routine act.
But remember, love and fear are not automatic. They are cultivated through Torah study and deep contemplation about the greatness of the Almighty and our relationship with Him. Such contemplation leads to a genuine love and fear, enhancing our mitzvah performance and our daily life.
To conclude, in every action we take, let’s strive to serve with both wings, love and fear, to ensure our divine service soars to the highest levels. Keep this in mind as you go about your day, enriching your spiritual journey.
Remember, dear friends, every mitzvah is an opportunity to connect with the Almighty. Every moment is a chance to elevate ourselves and the world around us.
