A faith-forward podcast for people who love Jesus but also love being honest about how weird and wonderful life can be. Hosts Kerrye and Jill tell stories about the Bible, talk about their faith, and dig into what it looks like to follow God through the ordinary chaos of everyday, imperfect life. Real conversations. Real stories. No pretending to have it all together. Pull up a chair, turn the page, and let's go.
Welcome to Chapter and Verse, where people
tell real stories about faith, failure,
redemption, and those "Lord, I'm gonna
need you to explain this one" moments.
Some stories are inspiring, some
are messy, some are miraculous,
and some probably should have
come with a warning label.
But through every chapter of
every story, God has a plan.
And he's never been
afraid of a little chaos.
We're Jill.
And Kerrye.
Let's turn the page
All right.
Well, we're here with our
good friend Adrian Goodman.
Almost said Tucker as well.
I mean- 'Cause that just popped in there.
'Cause I- Hannah said,
"Oh, Adrian Tucker."
And then she's like, "Goodman."
Yeah.
'Cause Tucker's your middle, maiden name.
Yeah, my parents still call me
Tucker all the time too, so.
Which is- Really?
⦠yeah, it's been funny 'cause there are
some things that like, I mean, obviously
my last name is Tucker, so when Ben and
I have stuff at the church, like we'll
write Tucker on it, and then I know
that, like you saw a tote or something
that had Tucker embroidered on it,
and you were like, "This is not mine."
I, I literally- But I feel like- ⦠did
it again like last week with something.
Yeah.
'Cause I saw a, a measuring cup, a big
measuring cup- Yeah ⦠in the kitchen-
Yeah ⦠and it said Tucker on the bottom.
I was like, "Oh, Jill.
Jill."
Yep.
I was like, "Why is this here?"
Yep.
Okay.
Well, so we'll just start with you.
Just tell us a little about your
life, who you are and all that.
Okay.
Um, well, you already introduced me.
I'm Adrian.
Yeah.
Um, I have two sons.
Uh- Sweet, precious babies.
They are.
Yep.
Levi and Wyatt.
I'm a little partial to them.
Mm-hmm.
Um, we- Can't imagine why.
Um, Levi is five, and Wyatt just
turned three, um, like last week.
Aww.
And, uh, Daniel and I have been married
for- No, I'm wrong, not 10 years.
Eight years.
Okay.
We've been married for eight years.
We've been together for 10 years.
Okay.
Um, and like I thought a lot about how
I wanted to roll into this- Yeah, okay
⦠and so I'm just kinda- You go for it.
Yeah.
Um-
So, and if you had told me six years ago,
uh, that I'd be sitting across from you
guys, uh, giving a testimony um, and that
I would be a stay-at-home mom and that,
like, that part's really crazy, um, and
that I would be serving in the church,
like, I would've laughed in your face.
Really?
That was not on your radar?
Wasâ¦
No, not at all.
Was it, is it the serving in church part?
Was it, like- Stay-at-home mom or
all of it ⦠stay-at-home mom?
Was it- All of the above.
Really?
Okay.
All of the above.
So what did you want, when you were
younger, you know, what did, were
you thinking you were gonna be?
I wanted to be a nurse, 100%.
Um- That doesn't gross you out.
You were a nurse in school, right?
Like, you, you went to school for that?
I did.
Um- And then COVID ⦠kind
of more than once.
Something about COVID?
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
All right.
Um- You know what?
I'm just gonna let you tell your story.
Uh, yeah, no.
So, um, and I'm c- I'm probably
gonna jump around a lot.
That's fine.
Um- Totally fine
I'm, I'm not- It's just a conversation.
Yeah.
I'm not- It's just a conversation ⦠good
at, like, uh, Dana would tell you,
I'm not good at the short version.
That's okay.
So, so it's probably gonna be, there's
gonna be a lot of rabbit trails.
That's okay.
So y'all just bear with me.
That's okay.
Um- We like those.
Yeah.
So, um, I grew up in church.
Mm-hmm.
But not the way that you think.
Okay.
Um, I feel like- Intrigue ⦠when,
when people say, "I grew up in church,"
like, automatically you're like, "Oh,
like, every time the doors were open
you were there- Mm-hmm ⦠and you were
doing the things, and you were-" Mm-hmm.
Like, no, that's not the life I lived.
Yeah.
Um, I did up until I was about 11.
Mm-hmm.
Um, I was in church.
My parents were superâ¦
My parents helped build Dardanelle
First Assembly, like- Wow.
Really.
Really?
Yeah.
Huh.
Um- Okay.
Yeah.
Wow.
And they were really involved.
Like, my, my dad taught a Sunday
school class and, and all the things.
Um, and then somewhere around 11-ish,
10, 11 years old for me- Mm-hmm
um, the pastor who was there left.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and honestly, like, I was a kid,
I couldn't tell you where he went.
Like, I don't know if he retired.
Yeah.
I don't, I don't know what happened.
Like, I don't know if he
went to somewhere else.
Like, I have no idea.
Yeah.
Um, but my parents just didn't like
the guy who came in behind him.
Um- Yeah.
There was some stuff going on
that they didn't agree with.
Yeah.
And so, um, they decided to leave.
And which, you know-
Happens ⦠fine on them.
It happens.
Yep.
Um, but then for a long
time we church hopped.
Um- Mm-hmm ⦠where we were just,
like, here for a little bit, there for
a little bit, like, trying places out.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and we landed ⦠I promise
I'm gonna circle back around to
the nursing thing in a minute.
No, it's fine.
Totally okay.
Um- You do you.
Yep.
But we landed, um, at this
little teeny, teeny, tiny church.
Um, and I'm not gonna name it.
That's okay too.
Um- You can tell us later.
Yeah, I'll tell you later.
Um, but we landed at this little
teeny-tiny church and, um, it was dead.
Mm.
It was just dead.
I've, I've dealt with one of those.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and I, uh, I was
hurt- Mm-hmm ⦠badly.
Yeah.
At that church?
At that church.
Um, yo, I'm gonna try so
hard not to get emotional.
It's okay.
Hey, it's okay.
Oh, we got a box of tissues.
That's good.
We can, we can edit out stuff
too, if you guys need to.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, but There was, there were several
thing, like a couple, y'all, I got
told I was gonna go to hell one time
'cause I read the Twilight books.
Oh, goodness.
I, I read the Twilight series.
We can go on and on about this.
Listen.
And- I, I got admonished at a
church because I was, I was teaching
a Sunday school class that had,
like, five, six, seven-year-olds.
Mm-hmm.
And one of the seven-year-olds that was
there all the time decided to tell one
of the van ride kids, who was, like,
six, that, who was wearing a Harry
Potter T-shirt, that he was going to hell
'cause Harry Potter was of the devil.
And I got admonished because I told the
seven-year-old, "He's not going to hell
for wearing a Harry Potter T-shirt.
Color your page.
Like, color, color your picture."
Leave the kid alone.
Yeah.
Like, he's fine.
Like, he doesn't pick out his own clothes.
Uh-uh.
Yes.
And also, what am I supposed to do?
And they expected me to teach seven, you
know, five to seven-year-olds the occult.
Like, why?
Why, why do, uhâ¦
This could be a whole 'nother podcast, and
when we do on this, we'll bring you back.
Yeah.
We'll just leave it.
Yep.
But- But also, suffice to
say, listeners, maybe don't.
Don't- Just don't ⦠say
that to children.
Don't do that.
Don't say that to anybody.
You're not gonna bring anybody
to the Lord- Yeah ⦠by looking
them in the face and saying,
"You're going to hell for that."
Yeah, exactly.
You're just- Absolutely not.
Exactly.
Um, if anything, you're
gonna drive people away.
Yes.
Because they're gonna go- Mm-hmm ⦠"If
that's the way the people in the
church are- Mm-hmm ⦠I don't
want anything to do with them."
Right.
Like- Right ⦠that was super rude.
Um- Yeah ⦠and I was, like, 14.
Like, come on.
Yeah.
You know?
Um- They will know you're, that
you're my disciple by your love- Yes
not by your hate.
Yes.
Yeah.
Um, but that was not the thing.
Um, the thing was a little bit
later, I was dating a boy, and he
had started coming to church with us.
Um, and when I was like going
to church, like, we went to
church when it was convenient.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Um, by this point, it was no
longer we were super involved,
we were doing all the things.
Like, by this point, we are
there sometimes if everybody
feels like going, then we'll go.
Um, if we didn't stay out too late
the night before, then we'll go.
Like- Okay ⦠you know, so it's very-
Yeah, just kind of checking a box.
Yes.
Okay.
Definitely checking a box.
I mean, you know, it's a good church.
We go.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, so definitely checking a box.
Um, but this boyfriend, he had started
coming with us when we went, and,
um, they had put me in charge of
the, like, two to three-year-olds.
Um- Okay ⦠and by this
point, I was, like, 16.
So me and this boy had
been dating for a while.
We started dating when I was 15.
Um, I was 16, and, um, one day, we
were in the, in the, like, little
room that we had the kids in.
And, um, I mean, it's two to
three-year-olds, so we were-
Yeah ⦠like, we had the lights out,
and we were playing hide and seek.
Mm-hmm.
And we're doing the thing.
We're having fun.
Yeah.
Um, and one of the parents came
and got their kid, and they left.
And I mean, I had like four kids.
Yeah.
Like, we did not have- Yeah.
It was not, you know,
um- Had like four kids.
One of the parents came, got
their kid, left, and I never
thought another thing of it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Ne- never.
And then like the next time that we
were at church, the pastor's wife
called me and my parents and the
boyfriend into like the church office.
Yeah.
And, you know, which the church
office there was a single room.
Yeah, yeah.
Um, but we went into the church office,
and this pastor's wife proceeds to
tell my parents that she walked in on
me and this boyfriend doing the dirty.
And who do you think my parents believed?
Oh, no.
The 16-year-old- Oh- ⦠or
the pastor's wife?
This makes me want to
throat punch some people.
Mm-hmm.
Um, she was never there.
She never came into the room.
She never was- Yeah, she didn't.
She was not there.
How do your parents feel now?
Like, do they- I don't know.
Okay, I was just curious.
I don't know the a- we, we,
past that day, we've never had
another conversation about it.
Really?
Oh, goodness.
Yeah.
Um.
Wow.
Yeah.
Well, listen, they'll probably
listen to this podcast.
Oh my gosh.
I haven't even told them I was gonna
be on the podcast- ⦠'cause I was
like, depending on what I talk about,
I may not want them to hear this.
Yeah, that's okay.
It's okay.
Um- It's okay.
Just remember, confession's
good for the soul.
I know.
I know.
I, and that, honestly, I
probably will tell them.
I'll be like, "Just so you know,
I was on a podcast, and just so
you know, d- d-" This, this came
up ⦠proceed with caution.
Yeah.
Um- Just know I love you,
and we're all good now.
We're all good now.
Yeah.
We're all good now.
Yeah.
You're gonna find some things out.
Sorry.
That's all right.
Um- Can't do anything about
it ⦠so she never really, the
pastor's wife never said, did, she
never asked, "Did this happen?"
No.
She just- She just pulled my parents in
there and said, "This is what happened.
I walked in.
I saw them."
The pastor's wife?
The pastor's wife.
Yeah.
Oh, I thought you meant the l- the parent.
Okay, this, this makes me mad.
Like even right now.
That's why I said I wanna
punch somebody in the throat.
Oh my goodness.
Yeah, the pastor's wife.
And, um, and I just re- I just left and
remember just crying and just beingâ¦
Because my mom, you know, like, we
left and we're driving home, and she's
like, "If there's any truth to that
at all," and I was like, "There's not.
Like, I'm telling you-
Yeah ⦠there's not.
There's no truth to it at all."
Um- Mm ⦠and then, like, fast-forward a
few months, and me and this boy break up.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
And I went to church.
It was, like, a Saturday that we
broke up, and, you know, of course,
Facebook, it's, like, everywhere.
Everybody knows.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And, um, we go to church, and the
very first person to come and try
to console me was the pastor's wife.
And that day, I, I mean, I was 16.
I had drove myself there.
Yeah.
And- And you're like, "Bye"
yes.
Uh-huh.
That day, I, I stood up, I looked at my
mom, and I was like, "I cannot do this."
Yeah.
And I just- Yeah ⦠left.
Um, and actually, I drove to
Russellville First Assembly- Oh ⦠and
I sat my butt in a chair by myself.
Wow.
Look at you.
And I, I sat through the service and,
and, um, but from there, um, 'cause things
did happen with this b- not at church.
Listen.
Well- Not at church.
Yeah.
But things did happen- No hate.
No hate Mm-hmm ⦠with this boy.
Um- Mm-hmm.
And I found myself in this place of, like,
really intense conviction because I knew.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I knew that I was- Yeah ⦠doing
things that I shouldn't have been doing.
And- Yeah ⦠and I remember, like, itâ¦
things would happen, and then
I would come back and be like,
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry."
Mm-hmm.
Like, you know, I'd just be-
Yeah ⦠just like, "I'm so sorry.
I'll never do it again."
And then, and then-
Yeah ⦠it would happen.
And then again.
Yep.
Yes.
And, um- So then, like, like I said,
I've always wanted to be a nurse.
My mom's a nurse, her mom was
a nurse, and so, like, from a
young age, I was like- Yeah.
This is it
this is what I'm doing.
Yeah.
And so, um, I graduated high school at 17.
Mm-hmm.
And I went straight to Arkansas
Tech, um, under a nursing major.
Yeah.
And, uh, I also signed up my
very first semester for 17 hours
of courses, and Goodness, girl.
Wow.
And one of those hours- Overachiever.
Yeah.
Oh, let me tell you.
I was like, "I got this."
You're like, "Psh."
Um, yeah, 'cause- I got it, no
problem ⦠in high school, like, I didn't
have to study or anything, you know?
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
And I was like, I could keep a, a
steady B average without studying.
Mm-hmm.
And so I was like, "Well, yeah,
college- Mm-hmm ⦠it's gonna be easy."
No problem.
Yeah.
No problem.
And one of the hours that
I signed up for was band.
Okay.
And nobody tells you that
band is not a one-hour course.
That's a lot.
No.
That's a lot.
No, it's not.
Big commitment.
Oh my gosh.
And, um, so I went in as a nursing major
and, um- What instrument did you play?
I played the trombone.
Oh, okay.
I just was curious- But- ⦠'cause you
know Chloe ⦠I was on color guard.
Oh, okay.
And so that was like my thing.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Um, and I went into it and That
first semester kicked my tail.
Me too.
Completely kicked my tail.
Me too.
And I was in there, um, you
know, I had broken up with this
boy, and I was sad and lonely.
Mm-hmm.
And so there were other boys.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
And so I was not concentrating on- Yeah
my- It's so easy to, to get into that
situation and to, to allow yourself to be-
Yeah ⦠to focus on those distractions.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yep.
Um, and then I got to the end of
my first semester, and I had a 2.4
GPA.
Oof.
Ooh.
Um, and, uh- That was not exactly the B
average that you were expecting to keep.
No, it was not.
And, um, at ATU, like, you
have to have at least a 3.5,
or at least then.
I mean, that's been- Yeah ⦠that was
2013, so it's gonna be different now.
Stay in the band.
Uh, yeah, I mean, well, no, to, to get
into the nursing program- Oh, yeah.
Gotcha.
Gotcha ⦠you had to have at least a 3.5.
Yeah.
And, um, so I real- And you've
got two semesters to get that 3.5
before- Yeah
you're trying to get
into the actual program.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, your prereqs are over, you're
trying to get into the actual program.
And I was like, even if I got a 4.0
next semester, like- Get in.
There's no way.
Yeah ⦠there's no way I'm getting in.
The math isn't mathing.
The math ain't mathing.
Yeah.
And so I was like, okay, what do I do now?
Yeah.
What do I do now?
And so, um, in my smart self, I
was like, I'll switch to pre-med.
So, 'Cause at least then you've got
a little more time to make it till
you have to take your MCATs and- Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was like- I'm, I'm tracking
with your thinking- Got
it ⦠your train of thought.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'll switch to pre-med.
So I did pre-med for one semester
before I was like, this is over my head.
I can't do this.
Um- Again, I didn't say it was a
good plan, but I understood the
plan No, it was not a good plan.
Listen, 17-year-old Adrean was
making dumb decisions, okay?
Listen, not dumb, lofty.
Lofty.
You had some lofty goals.
Yes, yes.
I, Iâ¦
All the time, I'm like, I wonder if
I could get some of those student
loans wrote off 'cause I was a minor.
Exactly.
Yeah.
A minor signing off on
these legal documents.
Yes.
That's true.
My gosh.
Um, I, I don't know, it
probably wouldn't work.
Who knows?
I don't know.
Could try.
Try it.
Try it.
What can it hurt?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um- And also, can I have all
the payments I've made back?
Could I have those back?
Yeah.
That'd be cool.
That'd be great.
Thanks.
Um- Yeah, so, um, so somewhere, I
think it was my second year, the
first semester of my second year.
So I had switched-
Mm-hmm ⦠majors again.
Um- It's okay ⦠I went
from pre-med intoâ¦
What was next?
This is not the last major change, so.
Oh.
Um, I went from pre-med
into rehab science.
Okay.
That's what it was.
I went into rehab science.
Um, and rehab science put me
a year behind on graduating.
Um, and so I was like, "Okay.
Yeah, we'll figure that out later."
Yeah, yeah.
Um, and in the same span of time, um, I
me- I'm gonna do a lot of name-dropping.
Go ahead.
Listen.
So- It's up to you.
It'sâ¦
All the name-dropping
I'm going to do is good.
Okay.
Um, any- Perfect ⦠any bad stuff-
Okay ⦠I'm just gonna, we'll redact.
Yeah.
Okay.
Perfect.
Um, but the first one, um, and
if he ever hears this, then
I hope he's proud of himself.
Um, but Cameron Spencer, I don't
know, you guys might know him.
He, he- his- him and his
wife own Cameron & Elizabeth.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Um, yeah.
His photography.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Um, so Cameron Spencer
was in my Comp 2 class.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and I actually met him in high school.
We were both in the, um,
Teen Leadership Coalition.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and so I kinda recognized
him, um, but I didn't know
anything about him, you know?
Yeah.
Um, I knew he was cute.
That's what I knew.
I was like, "He's kinda cute," and
I kinda had a little crush on him.
Sorry if you're hearing this, Cameron.
This is probably news to you.
Um He probably knew.
He'll be flattered.
Yeah.
I had the biggest crush on him, and so
he starts, we're in this Comp 2 class,
and he starts inviting me to his church.
Um- Good for you, Cameron ⦠to,
yeah, to, to youth group.
Um, and I was like, "Aren't we
a little old for youth group?
Like, we're in college."
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
Um, but I had never been in a youth
group, so I didn't, I don't know,
I didn't know the ins and outs.
Yeah.
Um, but he, and I was like, "I don't know.
I don't think
I want to.
I don't think-" For me.
Yeah.
Um, and he j- but he
just kept on and kept on.
And finally I was like, "Okay.
I'll come."
Yeah.
"I'll come to your youth group."
I feel like, y'all, I
talk with my hands so bad.
It's okay.
It's totally fine.
And I keep thumping the table,
and I can hear it in my- Um,
so anyway- We're used to that.
We, uh, we did have an episode
that has not aired at the time of
this recording, but by the time
this airs, it will have aired.
And it was so bad, and
you're not even close.
No.
It was so bad that we had to do
an addendum and add the, a little
addendum warning people, like, there's
a lot of, like, just- Fidgeting
fidgeting and noise and humming.
Thumping.
Yeah, it was our husband and Jamie Jones.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So embarrassing.
So we know.
We're like- Like- ⦠'cause
they're both likeâ¦
In the episode, I got onto Ben.
I was like, "Ben Ducker, for
serious, like, my gosh, stop."
Just stop.
Yeah.
And he was like, "What?"
Yeah.
So.
Sound like something I would do.
You're totally fine.
I got onto Daniel, um- Yeah.
This is my thing ⦠on our wedding
day while we were saying our vows.
You gotâ¦
Good for you, girl.
Say it at the beginning.
I'll tell, I'll tell you about that.
Yeah.
I'll tell you about that.
Yeah.
We'll get there in a minute.
Yeah.
Um, so he starts inviting me, and
finally I was like, "Okay, fine.
I'll go.
If it'll get you to leave me alone."
Mm-hmm.
"I will go."
Um, and he went to Plainview Jesus Name.
Yeah.
Um, and again, like I, I knew nothing
about the Jesus Name- Right ⦠churches.
Nothing.
I, the churches that I was in growing
up were all Assemblies of God.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
That's what I knew, was
the Assemblies of God.
Yeah.
So, and honestly, like when I
went, I was like, "This ain't
that much different than Springs."
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know?
Um, but we got there and, uh,
Cameron actually was dating Elizabeth
even- Okay ⦠at that time.
Yeah.
And so she was there, and he introduced
me to her, and I was like, "This
is-" And you're like, "Dang it."
"Dang it", you know?
Yeah.
Um, but she was just the sweetest
person, and I wanna say it was, like,
Valentine's Day- Oh ⦠that I was
there, that I finally ended up there.
Um, because it was at that service,
um, that I heard, um, Pastor D.
Stone.
Um, he gave this sermon and talked about
that, like, when you're looking for
someone, um, you should use that verse
out of 2 Corinthians that's like, you
know, love is patient, love is kind.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like everybody knows-
Mm-hmm ⦠the love verse.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Okay?
Yeah.
Um, and replace love
with that person's name.
Yeah.
And if you can't put their name
in front of every single one
of those criteria, move on.
Yeah.
Wow.
Yeah.
That's good advice.
Yeah.
That is good, good advice.
It's a high standard- Mm-hmm
but it's good advice.
It is.
Um, and, and I took it to heart.
Yeah.
I was like, "I gotta straighten up."
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
I gotta straighten up.
I gotta quit doing dumb stuff.
Yeah.
Um, and, and I continued to go to
church there for, um, a, a long time.
Well, I went on Wednesday nights.
Mm-hmm.
I was not going on Sundays, but I was
going on Wednesday nights for youth
because I was like, "I like these people."
You liked it, yeah.
You know?
Um, and then a little bit
later, um, I met Sam Albright.
Um, I was actually in a chemistry
class with a girl that he
was dating, um, at the time.
And, um, she introduced me to him.
And when I first met Sam, I thought
he was a straight-up hippie.
I was like, "This dude," like um,
'cause he just had, he had like, then
he had this long shaggy hair- Mm-hmm
and like he, he just- Wow.
Have you guys met Sam?
Like- I've seen him.
I've not met him.
I've not met him.
And he talks real slow, like surfer
dude type- Mm-hmm ⦠you know?
And, um- Nice ⦠but I met
Sam, and Sam starts in on like,
"You should come Chi Alpha."
And I was like, "I don't
wanna be in a sorority."
I mean, I knew nothing Nothing.
I was just like, "Nope,
totally good on that.
Don't want to be in a- You're like,
"That is not the vibe I'm after."
No, don't want that.
And he was like, "Oh no, it's not.
Like, you should come."
And it took him, just like it did for
Cameron, it took a lot of convincing
before I finally was like, "Okay.
All right.
I'll go.
Yeah.
I'll go.
Um, and it was again, just a moment
for me where I was like, "If you'll
get off my back- Yeah ⦠I will go."
Yeah.
And so I went and had this n-
another, like- What the heck is this?
Like, you know- Yeah, like great
experience Like- I didn't know they had
this stuff going on ⦠this is awesome.
Yeah.
Um, and so, but I still wasn't
really good to go regularly.
Yeah.
It was on Thursdays then.
Yeah.
Um, I don't know what day of the
week it's on now, but I know it's
changed several times since then.
Yeah.
Um, I was going to Chi Alpha,
and I was going to, um,
Wednesday nights at Jesus Name.
Um, and that went on, I went there
until my dad literally banned me.
From going to Chi Alpha?
From going toâ¦
No, from going to- Oh ⦠Plainview.
Oh, okay.
Um, because he did not agree
with the beliefs of the-
Okay ⦠Jesus Name Church.
And- Gotcha ⦠and so, um,
he did not want me to go.
And I mean, I was an adult, I probably
could have kept going, but- Yeah ⦠I
s- I lived in my dad's house.
Yeah.
And so- But you were
honoring him and his request.
Yeah.
That's good.
And so- Nothing wrong with that.
Yeah.
Um, but that was after I
actually got baptized with them.
I was- Oh ⦠I was with them.
Okay.
I got baptized, and after I got
baptized my dad was like, "Okay.
So, um, here's the thing."
Yeah.
Like, "We're not, we're
not okay with this."
Yeah.
Um, so I, I started getting more involved
in Chi Alpha, and I had, um, I had
all these friends, and I, I had never
been a person with a lot of friends.
I had- Mm-hmm ⦠I had a small circle.
Yeah.
I had, like, one or two, um, and the
two that I had had, they, they were
my best friends in the whole world.
Like, they didn't believe in Jesus at all.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and so, like, even when I
wasn't going to church regularly,
like, I still believed.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I still believe in God, you know?
Yeah.
Um, I, I very much knew
more of him, you know?
Yeah.
Yes.
And I didn't have, like, a
relationship, but I was like,
"You know, I believe in Jesus."
Yeah.
Right.
Um, and, you know, when I, when I
look back at these things, like,
I can always see how he was always
ordering my steps, you know?
Mm-hmm.
Um, and anyway, okay,
I'm gonna get off track.
I'm gonna come back.
Okay.
Okay.
Circle around.
So, I'm going to Chi Alpha, doing
the thing, um, and then another
boy came into the picture, and, um,
he didn't wanna go to Chi Alpha.
He was like, "No, not interested in that."
And so I was like, "Okay, I guess
I'll skip this time," you know?
Yeah.
And so, like, kinda went down a little
bit and, and my friends, you know,
they were like, "Where are you at?
What are you doing?"
And so, like, I would come and,
and, um, I was trying to do better.
Those Chi Alpha people are persistent.
They are persistent.
They- Yeah ⦠they not gonna let you go.
Yep.
They're like- Yeah ⦠"Come on, come on."
And so they kept on.
They hold you accountable, for sure.
Yeah.
And then I broke up with
that boy on Christmas Day.
Don't judge me.
Um, it's okay.
Sometimes we do what we have to do.
Sometimes we do what we gotta do.
I was ⦠Oh.
Only dated him for, like, a
month and a half, I think.
Okay, well then it's fine.
It was a very short little stint.
It was fine.
But oh my gosh.
He's fine.
He's fine.
It was a bad stint.
And so after I broke up with
him, I was like, "Okay, I'm gonna
Get back on track.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And so I started coming back,
and I remember asking the Lord
one night, like, like, "What?
I have all these friends that have all
these talents that they can use for you.
Like, they can sing, they can play an
instrument, they can do this, they can
do that," and like, "Where's mine?"
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Uh, and, and feeling like genuinely lost
about it, that I was like, "Where's mine?"
Like, I- Yeah ⦠like, what,
what ⦠And I know that's like, now
I'm like, "Girl, you were so selfish."
Like, you were just like,
"Where's mine, God?"
I think it's okay to ask that.
Yeah.
Like, what, what is my purpose?
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know?
'Cause you're not a
respecter of persons, God.
Yeah.
So there's something special that
you have tucked away inside of me.
Yes.
I can't even imagine you asking that-
Specific for you ⦠after knowing
you, 'cause I didn't know you then.
Yeah.
But I'm like- Oh ⦠"Girl, you are,
you are spilling out with talent."
Right?
100%.
I was like ⦠And thank you.
I ⦠Thank you.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Um, I was like, "Where is mine?"
And, um, it was the first time I ever
felt like God spoke something into me.
Mm-hmm.
And he was like, "Girl, you can talk."
But y-
But you won't.
Uh-huh.
And I was like, "Yeah,
'cause I don't want to."
Yeah.
You're like, "That's not a talent."
I don't want to.
I wanna sing pretty.
I don't wanna ⦠Y'all don't
wanna hear me sing, I promise.
I am pretty.
'Cause I, I- I wanna sing pretty ⦠and
like, who wants to see a, a, a trombone
up on the worship team, you know?
Come on.
I mean.
Um, so, so I, um, I- We
used to have a tuba at RFA.
Did we really?
Apparently we had a whole orchestra.
I did not know that.
We had a vibraphone and a
tuba and all kinds of stuff.
What the ⦠I knew about the, the
trumpet and the flute, and that's all
I've ever- Yeah ⦠I've ever seen.
Um- Oh, tuba's way before my
time, but there's evidence.
I was like, that must've
been a long time ago.
Yeah, there's a- There's
evidence of the tuba.
I would like to see evidence
of the tuba sometime.
We'll talk after.
Yeah, we'll talk after.
Um, okay.
So, um, where was I at?
You were- Sorry ⦠you asked him that.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
What was yourâ¦
And he said you could talk.
Yeah.
He's like, "Girl, you can talk."
Um, and so from then on, every
week at Chi Alpha, I was like,
"I'm gonna talk to somebody that
I've never talked to before."
Um- That's a good thing ⦠and
like- Yeah ⦠now I can have
a conversation with anybody.
Mm-hmm.
Yes, you can.
But then, I could not.
But, yep.
I could not.
I was shy.
I did not want to talk to people, and
honestly, like, I still deal with that
insecurity sometimes, where like, I'll
have a conversation with somebody and
be like, "That was so weird, Adrean.
Why did you say that?"
Like, I'll be think about it,
thinking about it for the next three
weeks going, "That was so dumb."
Like, they probably think that
you're like the weirdest person
they've ever met in their life.
Like, and that's just something
that I deal with, you know?
Yeah.
Um, but it was crippling then.
Yeah.
And it's not now, you know?
Yeah.
Now I'm like, "Well, how
they receive me is on them."
Yeah.
It's not on me.
Yep.
Exactly.
Um, I'm a lot, and that's
just the way it is.
Yep.
Um, and so every week I would go
and I would have a conversation
with somebody that I'd never had a
conversation with before, on purpose.
Mm-hmm.
And more than- That's
brave ⦠"Hi, I'm Adrean.
What's your name?
How are you?
Good.
How are you?"
Move on.
Like, I made conversation.
Yeah.
And so one night, uh, Pierce
was the director then.
Um, and Pierce asked if there was
anybody there who was new, and
people raised their hands, including
a certain 6'9", 375 pound dude.
Wonder who that could be.
Raised his hand- Hmm ⦠um,
saying that he was new.
And my friend was sitting beside
me, and I leaned over and I was
like, "I'm gonna go and talk to him.
That's the guy I'm gonna talk to tonight."
Yeah.
And she was like, "Okay, yeah, I don't
think I've ever seen him before."
And I was like, "Okay, cool."
You're like, "Yeah, I'm pretty
sure we would remember 6'9"."
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And so, like, after everything was
over, I went and found him, and he was
standing there and he was talking to this
gorgeous ⦠She was like 6'1" and blonde
and like, you know- How tall are you?
Beautiful How tall are you?
I'm 5'9".
And, and you're beautiful.
Thank you.
But she was like, you know, I was
a little intimidated by this girl.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and so, like, I went over there,
he's talking to her, and I was like,
"I'm just gonna wait patiently here
for a lull- Oh, yeah ⦠in their
conversation, and then I'll, you
know, introdu- I'll do my thing."
And so I waited, and
their conversation ledâ¦
I'm so glad that he's actually not
in here right now, because he would
be like, "That is not how it went."
He always argues with
me- ⦠but this is how it went.
We, we believe you.
Yes.
Okay.
Thank you.
Um-
And everybody else does too, so
I love it.
So- I love it so much.
Um- Oh ⦠I went up and I waited,
and, um, when there was a lull, I,
like, reached out to shake his hand.
I was like, "Hey, I'm Adrean.
I saw, I saw that you raised your
hand saying that you were new."
And he goes, "Oh, I'm not new."
And I was like, deer in the headlights.
Then why'd you raise your hand?
And I was like, "Oh.
Well, didn't you raise your hand?"
And he was like, "Oh yeah, I
was just joking with Pierce."
And I was like- ⦠"Oh my gosh."
And like, so I was completely mortified.
Oh my goodness.
And then dude full on
turns his back on me.
Turns his back to me.
I wanna drag him in here.
He's sitting right out there.
Go drag him in.
What are you thinking?
So he goes back to his
conversation, and I was like
I mean, I'm turning, I feel
like I'm turning red now, and
it's been- Yeah ⦠a decade.
Yeah.
Um, and I was like, I went over to
my friend Morgan, and I was like,
"That was the most embarrassing thing
I've ever done in my entire life."
Um, I'm rethinking all of my
life decisions after that.
So, so I was like, "I'm never
talking to that dude again.
That was horrible."
Oh.
And, um, so, you know,
go, go on a little bit.
Um, I ended up changing majors again.
Okay.
Um, I changed from rehab science
because I just couldn't afford-
Yeah ⦠a year without any scholarship.
Another year, yeah.
Yeah.
Um, and I only had a little bit
of scholarship to begin with.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
You know, and so I was like, "I just
can't, I can't do another year."
So, um, I had talked with my dad-
Mm-hmm ⦠and, um, was trying to
figure out, you know, what do I do?
And he worked at the nuclear plant.
Mm-hmm.
Um, he actually just retired last year.
Mm-hmm.
Oh.
And he was like, "If you just
get any degree, I can get
you into the nuclear plant."
Yeah.
And I was like, "Cool beans."
Easiest one was- Yep.
And so, yeah, I went to my, my- You're
like, "These are the credits I have.
What degree fits?"
Yeah.
What fits?
I went to my advisor, and they
were like, "Well, if you switch to
psychology, you could be done early."
Oh, nice.
And I was like- Okay ⦠"Cool."
You're like- "Switch
me to psychology then."
Awesome sauce.
Let's go.
Yeah.
And so we switched to psychology,
and honestly, like, I loved
the psychology courses.
Good.
I really, really did.
Um, got my degree.
I graduated in, uh, 2016.
Um, and that's also the year
that Daniel and I started dating.
Um, we actually- So presumably you
guys did have- Yeah, so there was
a- ⦠a subsequent conversation.
There was ⦠Yeah, I probably
should put that in here.
Yeah, I need to know.
So, so- I need to know before,
'cause I'm still mad at him.
Oh, yeah.
You, you'll get un-mad.
You'll get un-mad.
Okay.
Um, so I went to, I started
going to Kai Alpha's retreats.
Mm-hmm.
Um, they do the fall retreat in the fall
and then Come Together in the spring.
And this was at Come Together,
'cause it was in February,
and, um- I had gone out intoâ¦
There's like a, a day, and I don't
know, this is just how it was then.
They may have-
Mm-hmm ⦠changed it by now.
Um, but then, like, you had a day
where there was, like, nothing
going on until the evening.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
And so you could like go into Hot
Springs and check things out- Okay
or, you know, like- Yeah ⦠take a nap.
Yeah.
Whatever you wanted to do.
Right, yeah.
And, um, I had never seen
the actual Hot Springs.
And- Mm-hmm ⦠Sam,
um, is from that area.
Okay.
And so him and, he was
with Letty by this point.
Yeah.
Um, him and Letty were like,
"Well, just come with us.
We're going into town.
Come with us and we'll
show you the Hot Springs."
And I was like, "Heck yeah.
Let's do it."
Done.
Yep.
So we went into town, did the
thing, came back, and there was
this other guy that rode with us.
I could not tell you
today what his name was.
I have no idea.
Um, but he's important later.
So, um, so he's in the car, um,
came with us, and then we came back
for like the evening meal, and they
were serving like family style.
And so they had the food like already
on the- Mm-hmm ⦠tables, and you're
just gonna like pass it around.
Yeah.
And so I sat with, um, Sam and Letty.
And, um, I told you guys earlier, like I
don't hear very well out of my left ear.
Um- Mm-hmm ⦠and I was down on the end
where like they were both on my left.
Okay.
And so it was me, and then Letty, and
then Sam all the way down at the end.
And, um, I didn't know Sam
and Daniel were friends.
Oh.
And so Daniel walks into the cafeteria,
and Sam's like- Oh ⦠"Hey, Daniel."
Oh my lord.
"Come sit over here with us."
And I was like, oh my God, it's that guy.
Like my brain short-wired for a second.
I was like, oh my gosh, I cannotâ¦
Like, and so, you know, I'm
down at the end and I was like,
I'm just gonna stay out of it.
I'm just gonna stay down here.
I'm not gonna- Oh, no ⦠I'm not gonna
bring any attention to myself, right?
Yeah.
Um, and- I was really panicked that
you were gonna say that you didn't
know Sam had waved, and then Daniel
waved, and then you waved- Oh ⦠at
Daniel thinking it was y- and it was
gonna be like a whole nother moment,
but I'm so glad that I was wrong.
Well, it's so much more
awkward than that, Jill.
I'm gonna let you tell the
story It's so much worse.
I wish that's how it went.
Let's do it.
I mean, it worked out.
Let's do, let's do.
It worked out.
Let's hear.
Oh, my God.
So- I mean, folks, he is sitting right
outside He is sitting right outside
⦠so we know it has a good ending.
So- Yeah ⦠they know
how the story ended.
Yeah.
Um, but I am also incredibly nosy.
Kindred.
I am-
They're the same person.
So while I was fine to not be involved in
the conversation- You wanted to hear it
⦠I still wanted to hear the conversation.
Yes.
Mm-hmm.
And so- But they're on your bad ear side.
They were on my bad ear side.
So, uh-oh.
And we're in this room full of 500 people.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
And it's cafeteria style, so it's
like, br, br, br, br, br, br.
Mm-hmm.
You know- And I just- ⦠you gotta
get creative about how to flip that
head around so that you can get
your good ear on the right side.
Yeah.
So- ⦠what I started doing was
leaning, I started leaning in to
hear what they were talking about.
Mm-hmm.
Well, it turns out they were
talking about that Daniel and
this girl had just broke up.
Oh.
Oh.
Wow.
And Sam, my friend-
Mm-hmm You're in quotes.
Air quotes, yeah.
Um, he goes, "Oh, my gosh.
Look at Adrian leaning in.
She's interested."
And I was like, "Oh, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no."
Oh.
And so, like, I backed up and I had
this nervous tic at the time where
I would run my fingers into my hair.
Mm-hmm.
And so my fingers went to my hair, and
Sam's like, "She's running her hands
through her hair and everything."
Oh, gosh.
Sam.
Sam, we need you on
this podcast right now.
I- I'm saying ⦠wanted
to melt into a puddle.
I mean- Oh, my gosh.
I can't believe you didn't just,
like- ⦠and just keel over.
It was close.
It was close.
Yeah.
And but it sparked a conversation.
Mm.
It somehow, uh, you know, itâ¦
'Cause Daniel was like, "Oh, it's okay.
Like, don't, you know,
don't worry about it."
And, and I was like, "I'm
definitely worried about it."
Yeah.
Um, 'cause in my brain, I had
already been like, "I'm never
talking to this dude again."
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um- And he's 6 foot 9.
Yeah.
So even if you were attracted to
him, it, it's still intimidating
'cause he's humongous.
Yes.
Mm-hmm.
Yes, he is.
Cripes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, and so, you know, we started talking
and next thing we knew, we were the
only ones left in the whole cafeteria.
Aw.
Just me and Daniel.
Did you remind him what he did to you?
Yes.
Good.
I did.
Good.
Good for you.
I did.
Nice job.
Good.
Nice job.
Um, and he still to this day is
like, "That is not how it happened."
I'm like- That is how it
happened, Daniel It is.
I wasn't even there and I know.
That's exactly how it happened.
Uh- This just reminds me of when you
wouldn't let me interject with my, how Ben
and I met, and you let Ben tell that whole
ridiculous story of the yelling at him.
'Cause I've heard your
side a zillion times.
Doesn't mean I believe him.
Okay.
I'm just saying.
I just needed to hear his side.
All right.
You gotta hear it both ways.
Yeah.
Get the whole- I believe you, Jill.
No.
Good, 'cause that's the truth.
I know.
I know.
Oh, like- The women were always right
⦠I'm a- How long, how long did you talk?
We ta- Um, really, I don't know
if there was a talking phase, um,
because- Did you mean like that night?
I just meant that night, yeah.
Oh, for a lot of hours.
She- Yeah.
Yeah, it was, um- She doesn't
have the colloquial, the- Yeah.
We, we talked, I think we
were in there for, like, three
hours-ish, um, because- That's long
it was time for, like,
the nighttime service.
Did you fall in love that night?
He did.
Of course he did.
Um- You had some stuff that you needed
to work through- I was- ⦠'cause he
turned his back on you ⦠I was still
working through some things, and like-
Yeah ⦠like, I just was in this head
space of like, I had done so much.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
And he was, like, from, from the get-go,
like, he was just such a good guy.
Yeah.
And, like, he had told me, he told me
that day, he was like, "By the way, I made
this commitment co- to God today that I
was not gonna date anybody for a year."
And I was like, "Hmm."
You're like- "Oh, oh."
I was like, "Okay.
All right.
Okay."
Um, 'cause I also, um ⦠I don't know,
this isn't kind of relevant to the story.
It's relevant to my life, but as far
as the story goes- Mm-hmm ⦠um,
'cause I was also baptized in the Holy
Spirit for the first time that day.
Oh.
Oh, wow.
Awesome.
Yeah.
Um, and so I was like, "Well,
if God told you to, then-" Yeah.
Yeah.
"I gotta listen to Him."
Like, you're like, "Today's a-
today's an important day for
recognizing commitment to the Lord."
Yes.
So.
Yes.
Um, and so after that, um, the next
day, I ended up ⦠This is the very
short version of this particular story.
But the next day, I ended up asking him,
it was free pancake day at IHOP, and I-
⦠told him that nobody would go with me.
I asked him if he would go.
Um, and he- That's funny ⦠will
tell, like, his side of it is, um,
"I did not believe her that she
didn't have anybody to go with her."
Um, but he came and picked me up like a
gentleman and- Mm-hmm ⦠and took me,
and, and I remember that night thinking
like, "I don't deserve a guy like this."
Aw.
Aw.
Like, I, I mean, seriously, and like- And
y'all, he is a really, really good guy.
He really is.
He, he is.
He, uh, he is, um, the,
the genuine article.
He's- Aw.
Yeah ⦠he, uh, he lives up, you
know, as the, our last name is
Goodman, and he's always told me,
like, "I try to live up to it."
Aw.
Sweet.
Yeah.
He's, uh- Love it ⦠he's,
he's just good.
Mm-hmm.
He's just good.
Um, he's a goofball, but he's good.
Yeah.
Um, and so anyway, we started dating,
um, pretty quickly after that.
Like, he went to IHOP with me.
Um, we were on, like, a just
friends- Mm-hmm ⦠you know, basis.
Mm-hmm.
And then, um, like, two weeks later, he
was like, "Okay, I've prayed about this.
I've talked to my mom.
I've talked to my pastor."
Like, he said, he said, "And I just, I
really feel like- You're someone that I
can- Yeah ⦠I feel like God has told me
that, like, for you, I can do this He just
need- God just needed his willingness.
That's exactly what his mom said.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
His mom was like, "God was just
waiting for you to give it up."
Yeah.
And once you gave it up- Yeah ⦠he-
Yes ⦠brought her into your life.
Yeah.
And, um, so, so we started officially
dating, um- Mm ⦠two weeks later.
We still use February 28th as our
anniversary 'cause, like- Mm ⦠we were
inseparable- Yeah ⦠from, from there.
Um, and let's see.
He was playing football.
He was at Tech on a football scholarship.
Um, and I actuallyâ¦
So this is a, kind of a pivotal moment,
um, outside of just meeting my husband.
Yeah.
You know?
Yeah.
Pivotal moment.
Um, we had been dating for
seven whole days when he took
me home to meet his family.
Mm.
Um, and they live at Malvern, so-
Okay ⦠well, they lived at Poe then,
but nobody knows where Poe is, so.
No one knows where Poe is.
I barely know where Malvern is.
Yeah.
Um, so it's, like, two hours away.
Yeah.
And, um, his mom had this, umâ¦
We were not allowed to
sleep in the same house.
Mm.
Um, which was- Not a bad idea.
Well, it's comical because he ended
up living in my parents' house.
Well, yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
And I mean, his mom knew about it.
It was just, he was, he was
playing football and, um, he
couldn't afford the housing- Yeah.
.. for the summer- Yeah ⦠'cause there's
no- Yeah ⦠like, they don't cover that.
Yeah.
Um, my parents had an extra room
and they were like, "Just live here-
Yeah ⦠you know- Yeah ⦠so that
you don't lose your scholarship."
Yeah.
And so that was a thing.
But, um, but when we went down
there, um, 'cause the way I grew
up- My parents are good parents.
Mm-hmm.
Um, not real social people.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Not real social, um, which was
weird for me 'cause it took me a
long time to figure out that I am.
Yeah.
Yep.
I'm a very social person.
Um, I like people.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, my parents do not like people.
They're, they're not people.
So all I'm hearing is two introverts-
Yeah ⦠had an extrovert.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yes.
And who knows how it happened.
Well, I mean, Kerrye might be
able to tell us 'cause she's had
two introverts and an extrovert.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But she and Bobby I think are
both- We are ⦠introverts, so.
Yeah.
We don't know what- That's crazy
we don't know what to do with
Drew because he's more into
like, "I wanna be around people."
Yeah.
You know?
What?
Like, how he recharges, you know?
Yeah.
Well, and like I do, I do need like- Yeah
⦠I feel like I'm an introverted extrovert.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like- Ambivert.
Yeah.
Like, talk to yourâ¦
I'm an extrovert.
I like people.
Yeah.
Um, but every now and then
I'm like, "I just need to be
by myself with no one else."
Yeah.
Yep.
Not my kids, not my husband, no one.
Yes.
Yep.
Stay away.
Give me a quiet space.
Nay, because you're a mom.
Yes.
I feel like that's a, that's, it's
not, uh, that you aren't extroverted,
it's at, maybe at that point you're
overstimulated and you're just like- Yes
"I just need like a
padded room by myself."
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yep.
Um- We all feel it.
Oh, I'm telling you.
So, um, I went to meet his
family, and his Aunt Vic, um, said
that I could stay at her house.
And I was like, "I don't evenâ¦
Like, she's never even met me."
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
And like, my mama would be like,
"Abso-freaking-lutely not."
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, we were notâ¦
Nobody is staying at my house
that I have not even met before.
Yeah.
And so I was like, "Are you sure?
Like, she said I could stay at her house."
And Daniel was like, "Yeah.
Like, she's not even gonna care."
And I was like, "Oh, okay."
And I went and I met them, and it
changed my whole perspective- Mm-hmm
on everything.
Wow.
Because they- brought me in and
acted like I was their own child.
Aw.
Like, they didn't even
hesitate for a second.
Like, they hugged me when
I came through the door.
Mm.
Aw.
And they didn't even know my name yet.
And hugged me when I
came through the door.
Yeah.
And I was l- I mean, I remember
standing there like, like stiff
as a board because I was like, "I
don't know what to do with this."
Yeah.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Um, and then, like, I stayed the
night, and the next morning they got
up before me, made me breakfast, served
it to me, and it makes me emotional
to think about now because I'm like,
"What an exhibit"- Yeah ⦠of just a
servant's heart- Yeah ⦠and having
a love for the Father that, like, that
you're gonna show it outwardly to other
people, even if they're strangers.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
You know?
And, and that impacted me in a way that I
cannot even begin to explain because- Yeah
⦠I didn't even know that something like
hospitality- Yeah ⦠could be a gift.
Yeah.
I had no idea.
Mm-hmm.
I had no idea.
Yeah.
Um, and that was like, you know, when
⦠I don't know if you guys ever had to
take, like, the placement tests in school.
Yes.
Yep.
Every single year, it would
tell me hospitality, and I was
like, "I'm gonna be a nurse."
Yeah.
Um, I don't care what this
placement thing is telling me.
Mm.
Yeah.
Um, and so I kinda got this
example for the first time in
my life of, of what hospitality-
Actually is ⦠looks, looks like.
Yeah.
Um, and I was like, "Man, this is crazy."
And, um, so, you know, Daniel ended
up, he got injured, um, his sophomore
year, um, playing football, and that
was the end of his football career.
Oh.
Um, by choice.
He- Yeah ⦠he could've gone back, but
he was like, "Uh, I wanna be able to
throw a football with my kids one day."
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Um, and he ended up having
to drop out because of that,
um, 'cause he couldn't- Yeah
do it without the scholarship.
Yeah.
And so- Um, I'm trying to, like-
No, it's fine ⦠I know we're
on a limited time- No ⦠so I'm
trying to, like- It's all good.
You're good ⦠pick and
choose what I, what I land on.
Um, so he dropped out.
I graduated same year.
Um, and we got engaged.
We started dating in February,
and we got engaged in December.
And, uh, but we had a long engagement,
so we got engaged in December of 2016,
and we got married in April of 2018.
Um, and by that point, some of my family's
habits had started to rub off onto Daniel.
Um- Okay.
And so he had been aâ¦
Like, he was raised in church-
Mm-hmm ⦠the way you think about it.
Okay.
Like, every time the doors
are open- Yeah, every time
extra events, ex- you know.
Yeah.
He, all the things.
Um, but he came around my family
and that, that, um, habit of, "Well,
it's just not convenient today."
Mm-hmm.
"Well- Yeah ⦠I don't
feel like it today."
Well, you know, it started to
kinda rub off on him a little bit.
And, um, I'm gonna skip a whole lot.
That's fine.
And we're gonna go to 2020.
Okay.
Okay.
So we get married in 2018.
There was a back to school period for him.
Um, all kinds of, like, job changes,
career changes- Yeah ⦠that happened.
Um, and in 2020, um- We
got pregnant with Levi.
Mm-hmm.
And, um, when COVID happened,
it was really easy for us
to stop going to church.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Because- It was easy for everybody 'cause
we weren't allowed to for a long time.
Well, we weren't allowed to,
and like, w- we were like,
"We're not watching it online."
Yeah.
You know?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
We're not gonna do that.
It's not the same.
Yeah.
And it's not.
It's not.
You c- It is not the same.
It's not the same.
Um, I d- I mean, now I'm like, "Oh, if
we're not going, we're watching it."
Yeah, yeah.
Right.
But then I was like, "No."
Still not the same, but
you're gonna watch it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, and so there was this
really big backslide for us.
Um, and this is the part of my story
that, I mean, like, it just overlaps with
Daniel, so I'm probably gonna talk with,
you know- Yeah, that's fine ⦠kind of
hand-in-hand- Yeah ⦠um, his story and
my story, 'cause it's the same story.
Yeah.
Um, so there was a lot of backsliding
and, um, Levi was born that December
and, um, even when the doors opened
back up- Mm-hmm ⦠we didn't go back.
Yeah.
Um, we were content-
Mm-hmm ⦠right where we were at.
Yeah.
Um, we were drinking.
We were, um, just doing things we
really, really shouldn't have been doing.
Um, and, um, for me, so I have a, I
have a family history, um, with alcohol.
Mm-hmm.
Um, on both sides, really severe.
Um-
And I, at some point, I remember
catching myself and being like,
"I am drinking about things
instead of praying about them."
Mm.
Wow.
And all of a sudden, I was
like, "We need to do something.
And also, we have this baby."
Yeah.
"And it's not just about us anymore."
Yeah.
Yeah.
And so I was like, "We've,
we've gotta, you know, we've,
we've gotta do something."
And Daniel was right on the same page.
You know, he was like, he was like,
"Yeah, we do need to do something."
That's good.
Yeah.
And so we started going back, but
it was still not, like, consistent.
Yeah.
Um, but listen, like me and Daniel,
we, we both worshipers, and so,
like we, we were still- Yeah
you know, we, we were doing the thing.
And, um, sometime in that period,
maybe like, we'd probably been coming
back for like six months, but still
not like consistent- Yeah ⦠um, that
Alex approached me the first time.
Mm-hmm.
It was actually Caitlin.
Caitlin sent me a message on
Facebook and said, "We would like
to have a meal with you guys."
And I was like, "This is a little weird."
Yep.
'Cause like I went to school with her.
Yeah.
Um, but she was a couple years
ahead of me, and so I didn't know.
I was like, "I don't ⦠We've
never even had a conversation."
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, "I don't know why you're sending
me a message asking to have a meal."
Mm-hmm.
Like, um, and so we went and
had a meal and I'm gonna tell
on Caitlin just a little bit,
um, and I hope she doesn't mind.
But, uh- She had just found out
that she was pregnant with Zion.
Mm-hmm.
Oh, okay.
And she was like, she
was, she was not okay.
She was, she was still working through
that she had just found out about Zion,
and- Yeah ⦠but, but we had a really,
we had a, a, a good conversation,
and, like, a little bit later, like
couple of weeks or something, they
asked us to come onto youth staff.
Mm-hmm.
And Daniel and I talked about it, and
we were like, "We are not in the right
place for- Yeah ⦠leading other people."
Yeah.
Yeah.
And so, you know, we
respectfully declined.
Right.
And when we declined, Alex was like,
"Well, it's probably a good thing
because we're going to Butterfield."
Yeah.
And, and I was like
He was like, "You could still
come on under the new youthâ¦"
And I was like, "No."
Yeah.
"No.
We- ⦠we know you.
We, that's ⦠No."
Yeah.
"Mm-mm.
We're not gonna do-
Yeah ⦠we're not gonna do that."
Yeah.
And we were already, you know, we
had already pretty much decided,
like, this is just not right for us.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and also, I didn't like teenagers.
I didn't like teenagers
when I was a teenager.
Yeah.
And so Daniel has always been like,
"I wanna do something with the
youths, something with the youths."
And I was like, "Well, you can
do something with the youths."
Yeah.
I am not.
Yeah.
Um, and it's just funny how God
has- Mm-hmm ⦠other plans.
Yeah.
Yes, he does.
All the time.
All the time.
Yep.
All the time.
Yeah.
Um, and I think sometimes that he makes
a sport out of thwarting my plans.
I mean, I feel like it's just- I feel
like he does that ⦠comedy for him.
Yes.
Yes.
I feel like he's just like,
"Oh, I'm so glad you said that."
Yes.
Guess what now?
Uh-huh.
You know?
And so, um, so then I, uh, I also went
back to school, and this is what you
were talking about earlier- Mm-hmm.
Yeah ⦠that, um, that I, I
went back to nursing school.
Um, I was gonna get my LPN at UACCM.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and After COVID happened, they
started requiring a vaccine, and
I was- Not for it ⦠unwilling.
Yep.
Um, and so they basically
forced me to, to leave.
Yeah.
Um, they didn't actually kick me out.
They just made it to where I couldn't
complete my hours because- Yeah.
Right ⦠I didn't- 'Cause without
that vaccine, you can't do your
clinicals, you can't do all your stuff.
Right.
Yeah.
Right.
So I dropped out, and that was on
a Monday, and the next Monday I was
enrolled in massage therapy school.
Oh.
Oh.
I've always wanted to d- like,
I was like, if I didn't go into
ministry, what would I have done?
I, I'm so interested in that.
It's honestly, like, I, I liked it.
I would've liked to have been in a
more, like, physical therapy aspect
of it- Mm-hmm ⦠just because
I do enjoy the medical field.
Like- Yeah ⦠I, I really, really do.
I find it very interesting.
Um, I learned more about anatomy
in massage therapy school than I
ever learned in nursing school.
Really?
Way more.
That's cool.
Way more.
Um, 'cause, like, you have to know.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You have to know the anatomy and the
physiology of, like- Yeah ⦠the
way the muscles work together and
what- Yeah ⦠they're doing and why.
Right.
Mm-hmm.
Um, you know, what, what nerves
are these muscles running over
that would cause pain in that area?
Like- Right ⦠you have to know.
Mm-hmm.
Right.
Um, and so then inâ¦
What year did we start the playback?
Was that 2022, I think?
Um, we missed two years.
Yeah.
So yeah, 2022.
2022, okay.
So 2022, and this is where we'll start
getting more, like, to where I am now
instead of- Yeah ⦠the whole backstory.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, so 2022, we're still doing
the same old song and dance.
Mm-hmm.
And, um, but for whatever reason, I
decided that I wanted to be in the play.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
I was like, yeah, sure.
That w- that might be a good way
for me to get connected to some-
'cause I was just very disconnected.
Yeah.
Very disconnected.
Mm-hmm.
And I went the first
night and, like, practice.
Mm-hmm.
And those old insecurities
started popping their heads.
Mm.
Nobody wants you here.
You're in the way.
Ugh.
What are you even doing?
Mm.
Did, I mean, this is
just, this is just you.
Yeah.
God doesn't need you to do this.
This is notâ¦
You know, like- Mm-hmm ⦠it
was very likeâ¦
And I left that night and called Daniel,
'cause he was actually away working.
I called him and I was
like, "I changed my mind.
I'm not do-" I mean, just
crying driving down the road.
I was like, "I'm not doing it.
Like, uh, they don't need another shopper.
They have a million shoppers."
Mm-hmm.
"There's no reason for me to be here.
I, I just, I changed my mind.
I don't wanna do it."
And he was like, "Okay.
You know- Yeah ⦠if you, if you don't
wanna do it, then you don't wanna do it."
And, um, and you guys might
have heard this story before-
Mm ⦠'cause I told it one year.
Um, but I went home that night, and
like I had told my parents even,
'cause they had Levi that night.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and I went to pick him up
after practice, and I told them.
I was like, "Ah, pfft, changed my mind.
I'm not, I'm not doing it."
And they were like, "Okay."
You know, they didn't ask any questions.
They were like, "Okay, cool."
And, um, that night I went home
and, you know, by myself, it was
just me and Levi in the house.
And, um, I had a dream, and in this
dream, Levi was in the bathtub.
And the way our house is set up,
there's like a, a long hallway, and the
bathroom is at the end of the hallway.
Mm-hmm.
And like you could see the
bathtub from the hallway.
And I would all the time, like I would
put Levi in the bath, and then I would
go and like get his diaper and his
pajamas- Mm-hmm ⦠and like, you know.
And he was big enough to be like
sitting and standing and, you know.
Yeah.
So I knew he wasn't gonna likeâ¦
Um, but in this dream, I had gone
away to get his things, and then I
came back into the hallway, and he
was under the water and thrashing.
Oh my goodness.
And he was being held down by
some entity that I could not see.
Ooh.
And I woke up And I could smell
smoke in my house, and I was like,
"Oh my gosh, the house is on fire."
Yeah.
And I'm telling you, like real
as can be, the house is on fire.
Yeah.
And so I got up and I start going
through the house and there's nothing.
There's nothing.
I can just smell- Yeah ⦠the smoke.
And, and I'm, I still get
goosebumps- Ooh, I do too.
Yeah ⦠now talking about it.
Um, but I start- I went through
every room in the house and just
started pleading the blood of Jesus.
I was like, "I, you have got to leave."
Yeah.
Yeah.
"This is my house.
This is, you know, like we trust in the
Lord, and you've got to get out of here."
Mm-hmm.
And then I went back, like after I
settled down, I went back to bed,
and this was two of two times-
Yeah ⦠that I felt like I heard-
Mm-hmm ⦠you know, like I have- Yeah
you've felt the, or like the- Yeah, yeah.
You know, but that I heard something.
Like you were certain.
Like in my brain- Yeah ⦠I
knew like this is- Yeah ⦠God.
Um, that he said, um
if you don't do this thing that I've
asked you to do, then in the future
he will be held down by something.
Oh my goodness.
And you will have no power over it.
Wow.
And so I called Daniel back the
next day and was like, "Well,"
"I'm gonna be in the play."
I'm in.
He was like, "I thought
you changed your mind."
I was like, "Okay, well-" Mm-hmm.
"Double doing, double changing."
Yeah.
Um, I need to do this, and I told
him, you know, the whole thing.
Yeah.
And he was like, "Uh, yeah.
Yep, sounds like you need to do it."
And I was like, "Yeah."
So, so I went and I fought through the
awkwardness- Mm-hmm ⦠and the weirdness
of being there by myself, you know?
Yeah.
And like not really knowing anybody.
Like, I felt so bad for Caitlin
because at that point she was like the
only person I really knew, and so I
just- 'Cause they were back by then.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Um, so I just followed her
around like a little lost puppy.
Because I was like, "I
don't know what to do."
And she was probably like, "Oh my
gosh, this girl's so obnoxious.
Like, leave me alone for just like
a-" No, she would not think that-
I know, but I just- ⦠at all.
Yeah.
Um, and so did the whole thing,
and Daniel got back just in time.
It was the one year that
he was the giant shopper.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, I remember.
Yeah.
Um, because he got back just in time
for like a, uh, the, the last two-
Performances ⦠performances, I think.
Mm-hmm.
Um, , and Daniel needed a costume.
Yeah.
And so he like stopped and was like, "Hey,
um, where do I need to go get a costume?"
So, you know, we got him costumed and
got him down there and, like, and we
ended up, um, really enjoying ourselves.
Yeah.
You know?
Yeah, yeah.
We really enjoyed it, and
then, um, it was the lastâ¦
So it was Easter Sunday.
It was the last day- Mm-hmm
Alex came to me again and said, "Would
you guys consider coming on Youth Staff?"
And I said, "Yep."
La, la, la.
It's like- Like, "I'm gonna do all
the things" ⦠like, no hesitation.
Yep.
Yes.
Yes.
Yep.
Yes.
Sure will.
Yeah.
I don't know what we're
gonna do, but- Yeah.
Mm-hmm ⦠we'll come.
Yeah.
And I told Daniel, you know, I was
like, "Hey, I've just voluntold- Yeah.
Yeah ⦠Daniel like, um, we're,
we're on Youth Staff now."
And he was like, "Oh, okay."
Yeah.
'Cause he wanted it.
He's not gonna be upset.
Yeah.
He wanted it.
He's been wanting to work with youths.
Yeah, yeah.
He had wanted to.
Um, and so, you know, we, we got
involved with that, and, um, just really
started to fall in love with those kids.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Um, and, and it's crazy because
I did not expect that for me.
Yeah.
I definitely thought for me it
would be like a, an obligation.
Yeah.
Just a thing that, that I
have to go do every Wednesday.
Mm-hmm.
You know?
Yeah.
Um, but something else it did for
us was, um, bring accountability.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Like, we gotta be here.
We're on Youth Staff.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We're on Youth- we gotta be there.
We gotta go.
Yeah.
Um, they need to see
us on Sunday mornings.
Yeah.
They need to, you know?
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
And- For sure ⦠um, so it,
it turned into consistency.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah so, um, Caitlin had been making,
like, chicken nuggets and stuff-
Yeah ⦠for the kids and- Mm-hmm ⦠and
I remember one night just asking her,
like, "Hey, do you want me to do this?"
Yeah.
'Cause it seems like you might
have other things you need to do.
Yeah, yeah.
And she was like, "Yeah, that'd be great."
Yeah.
I was like, "Okay."
Yeah.
And so I took over- Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm ⦠um, doing the kitchen there,
and for the first little bit I did
just do, you know, chicken nuggets-
Mm-hmm ⦠and pizza rolls and stuff.
Um, and then we hadâ¦
There was only one, but we had one
kid who every week would come in and
ask if there was any left- Aw ⦠that
he could take home, and could he
take some for his mom, um, because
they were just in a hard place.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and it was then that I made
the decision to start, um- Doing-
cooking for real ⦠other things.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Started, um- Yeah ⦠that I was like,
"Okay, I'm gonna start making a real meal,
and whatever is left, um, if they wanna
take it home, they can take it home."
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Um, and so started doing that, and then,
you know, Alex ended up creating this,
like, um, like I'm over a whole- Team
hospitality team- Yeah ⦠um, over
there, and that just, it boggled my mind.
I was like- Yeah, and y- I mean,
people who don't know Adrean-
Yeah ⦠she's a great cook.
Thanks.
I'm telling you.
You are.
Listen, my family really
has adopted at, atâ¦
I know at least one of your recipes.
Like, I mean, it sounds so
simple, but the chicken Parmesan
sliders- Oh, they're so good
Owen is, like- When can we have those?
⦠pretty close to obsessed.
Yeah.
Like, I, I feel like if I said to
him every night, "Oh, we're gonna
have chicken Parmesan sliders,"
he'd be like, "Excellent."
"Great."
Yeah.
Fantastic.
And now, and you're also over the,
you know, the kitchen for the play.
Yeah.
Well, and that came, that came later.
Yeah.
Um, that was kind of like aâ¦
I was really shocked with that
one, because I had only had the
hospitality team, um, with the
youth for maybe a year, I think.
Mm-hmm.
Um, when Alex told me, "Hey, um,
Dina is gonna be stepping down."
Mm-hmm.
Um, she's been over the kitchen for,
like, 10 years at that point- Mm-hmm.
Yeah
um, for He's Alive, and he asked me
if I wanted to do it, and I really
hesitated at first on that one.
It's an overwhelming diff- It is a lot.
You know, 200 to- Yeah It's a
lot ⦠50 volunteers plus, you know?
Yes.
It, it's, it's a lot.
Um, and but the more I thought about
it, the more I was just likeâ¦
God's in your face with your gift- Yes
of hospitality.
Yes.
This thing that I was
like, "Where's mine?"
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um- He's like, "Girl, just you wait".
And, and Alex, like- I already told him
I was gonna name drop him in this, so
he's probably like, gonna be like- He's
like fast-forwarding until he- Yeah.
⦠hears his name.
He's like, "Oh, there it is."
There it is.
Yeah.
Um, but Alex just has this way of
like calling things out of people.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
The good things- Yeah ⦠and,
and the bad things.
Like he'll call it out.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, but I was very hesitant to, to
try to speak in front of people, to
try to get outside of my comfort zone.
Mm-hmm.
And Alex was always just like,
"I'm not giving you a choice."
Yeah.
Like, "You're, you're gonna do
this because I know that you can."
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Um, and he's always been right.
Yeah.
He's always been- I
mean- ⦠right, you know?
Um, and so, but he didn't, he didn't
force me into the, the He's Love kitchen.
Like I don't want- Yeah,
no ⦠anybody to hear that wrong.
Like he- No ⦠he asked me and,
and I did think about it for a
while, and then I was like, "Yeah".
And you've done great.
"Let's do it."
Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Um, and you know now, like I'm, I'm
involved with, uh, with fine arts and-
Mm-hmm ⦠and stuff like that, and I
just never, never would've imagined.
Yeah.
It's so crazy.
Like, just the, the people that ⦠If
it was not for the obedience of other
people to the will of God- Mm-hmm
I would not be here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know?
Like this, it's, it's like the way
he uses other people- Mm-hmm ⦠is
just so incredible to me.
Yeah.
Um, to help- guide us- Yeah ⦠you know?
Yeah.
And show us like, "No, you're,
you're drifting off this way, so
I'm just gonna like like- Yeah.
Yeah ⦠nudge you back over."
Yeah.
Um, and he has just done that my
entire life, and every plan that I
have made, like I said, like I- Mm-hmm
you know, I went to, I've
been to school more than once.
Like, did the massage therapy
thing, and I ended upâ¦
Like, I did it for a little while, and
then I got pregnant with Wyatt, and,
um, it just wasn't working anymore.
I kept- Yeah ⦠my blood
pressure kept dropping.
Like- Really?
Yeah.
I'd be like in the middle of
somebody's massage and have
to sit down because- Oh, no
because, uh, my blood sugar was dropping,
or my, my blood pressure was dropping.
And, um, so I stopped, and then I
went to work, um, at a, at what's
Love's Flower Shop in Dardanelle.
Mm-hmm.
I worked on and off
there for over a decade.
Oh.
Um, yeah.
Yeah.
That makes sense.
I've done a lot of wedding planning.
A lot.
There'sâ¦
It sounds like you have had
hospitality in any, in some form-
Yeah ⦠present throughout.
The whole time.
Yeah.
The whole time.
It's such a ministry too,
like it- It really is.
It really is.
Yeah.
And it, it fits you.
It is, and that's- Mm-hmm ⦠that's
something that, that the Lord
has really opened my eyes to, you
know, over the last six years.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, is that, like, this is a gift.
It really is.
Yeah.
You know?
And, and I love nothing more than
showing other people how to walk in it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because it took me so long-
Yeah ⦠to figure it out.
Like, especially with these kids, like
if I s- if I see it even a little bit-
Yeah ⦠just a nugget of it, I'm like,
"Come and work with me in the kitchen."
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let me show you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know?
Um, and so they come and they serve
and they, and they start to understand,
like, there's so much more- Yeah,
there's- ⦠to, to this ⦠there's
so much more- Yeah ⦠than just,
"Can I have some spaghetti, please?"
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And we get to see every kid.
Yeah.
Every kid, every week, and, um,
every single time is an opportunity
to pour into them in some way.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
It's, it's neat.
Like, I mean, I, I do Wednesday
nights for the children- Mm-hmm
⦠and we have some picky kids.
And so we predominantly
go with chicken fries.
Yes.
And then occasionally we'll do
chicken fries and pizza rolls.
Mm-hmm.
But we, if we do just the pizza rolls,
some of them get very bent out of shape
'cause they want their chicken fries.
But it's just inter- So we have all of the
sauces, you know, we've got Chick-fil-A
sauce and ketchup and ranch and whatever.
Mm-hmm.
And they, they are always
just tickled to death that we
remember what sauce they like.
And that's, you know- It
is ⦠they like that.
That means something to people.
And he, you know, even her husband
does the- Yeah ⦠sauce and gravy.
And when- Yes ⦠she, he and Owen
missed one Sunday, and a little
girl was like, "Where's the guys?"
"Where are the boys?"
You were, you went on two, and I think it
was Elizabeth and Tracy and Jamie- Mm-hmm
but Jamie was in the back, and she
was like, "Where are the boys?"
And I just thought that was so cute.
Yeah.
Because that's a ministry.
It is.
They do get it, and- It is.
It's such a big deal.
Well, and you can- Like- ⦠you can do,
like, s- uh, having a servant's heart,
which I th- I think- Mm-hmm ⦠that
every single one of us is called- For sure
into servanthood.
For sure.
Every single one of us.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And but there's, like, there's
something about doing something
unexpected for somebody- Mm-hmm
⦠that, like, you're blessing them,
but it blesses you in turn too.
Oh, exactly.
Like, it comes back-
Yep ⦠one way or another.
Like, even if that person
never says thank you- Yep Yeah
if they never do anything for you-
Mm-hmm ⦠somehow, some way, that little
thing that you did, it's, it comes back.
Mm-hmm.
The Lord multiplies that just
like he multiplies anything else.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know, and it's, it's just
amazing- Yeah Yeah ⦠for me to see.
That's such a good,
like, sermon right there.
It really is.
Yeah.
Yep.
Yeah.
That's, that's really good.
Like, this whole thing has just been
⦠Like, it, you know, I feel like I've
started to get to know you even more,
but, like, I didn't know any of that.
Yeah, me neither.
I'm like, I've been hanging out with
you for, like, little snippets in the
kitchen every week- Yeah ⦠um, 'cause,
you know, our times overlap some.
Yes.
And man, like, I knew I liked
you, but man, I did not know that
we were such kindred spirits.
Yeah.
That's good.
Such kindred.
Well, you know, we always kind of end
with, like, what I, I feel like- I kinda
know what you might say, but anyway.
Ooh.
Uh, what is, if you could go back in time
and wa- and see a Bible story in real
time, what would you wanna watch and why?
The Exodus.
The Exodus?
Why?
The Exodus.
That's not what I thought you would say.
I'll tell you in a minute.
Yeah.
Um, like from the plagues.
Yeah.
Like- You wanna see that whole thing?
Like, I would like to see that.
I would like to see the pillar of fire.
Yeah.
Um- That'd be amazing.
Like- Yes.
I would like to see- Yes
the parting of the Red Sea-
Mm-hmm ⦠and, like, all those
Egyptians just getting phew, wiped out.
Yeah.
The wave.
Yeah.
Um, like just to s- to, like, like
they had this whole, uh, uhâ¦
'Cause I've always been confused as to,
like, you guys had a whole pillar of fire.
Yeah.
And you still were like,
"Let's build a calf."
What, what are we doing?
Same.
I am in the same way.
I'm like, "You had manna every day."
Yes.
And you also avoided all the plagues-
Right ⦠but you still like-
Yes ⦠"Let's serve somebody else."
Yes.
And like, and like, yeah.
Not just serve somebody else.
Let's melt down everything that
is, like, that's valuable to us.
We, we brought the
riches of Israel with us.
Egypt.
Egypt.
Yeah.
But, like, it was the
Israeli, um, riches though.
It was their wealth that they
got to take with them, right?
I don't know.
I thought they took Egypt's wealth.
No, they, they took some
of Egypt's for sure.
Okay.
I think so.
My bad.
I'll trust the theologian.
We'll, we'll go look it up.
But th- m- nonetheless, they
had all these valuables.
They melted those suckers down and
created a calf and, and they did have bro
talking about like, "What are you doing?
Don't do this."
Yeah.
And then still.
Yeah, Moses, Moses- What?
⦠is like, "I'm gonna go up here.
I'm gonna talk to God."
Right.
And like they saw the whole thing.
Exactly.
Exactly.
The whole thing.
And I'm like, man, I'm out
here having faith- Yeah
sometimes going like, "Are you listening?
I'm not sure you're listening."
Yeah.
And they had the physical
presence of God with them.
Yeah.
And so I would just love to be a
fly on the wall- Yeah ⦠just to
see, like, how did this happen?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't even wanna be a fly on the wall.
I just wanna be able to go and
be like, "Do, do you not see it?"
Well.
Like, point it out, but-
Am I missing something?
Exactly.
Exactly.
But I thought you would say
something about Martha because
Martha was such a good girl.
I do, I love the story of Martha.
Yeah.
I do love the story of Martha.
I feel like she gets a bad rap,
but she does get a bad rap.
And for the longest time- She does.
She does.
She, I mean, I- People don't think about
Martha a lot ⦠I relate to Martha
more than I do Mary, but for sure.
I also really like the, the, um-
Oh, who was it that held his,
that held his arms- Aaron and Hur.
It was Aaron and Hur.
Mm-hmm.
Like, I really love that.
Yeah.
You know?
That I think, wow.
Yeah.
Like, like Moses was the one being called.
Right.
Everybody wants to be Moses.
Right.
Not everybody is willing- Well,
and- ⦠to be Aaron and Hur.
Not everybody is- And stand there and
hold his arms up ⦠not everybody
pays attention to the fact that
an Aaron and Hur is necessary.
Yes.
And, like- True.
Yeah.
True.
Where would Moses be if
Aaron and Hur wasn't there?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, you've got to have your support.
Yes.
Exactly.
You've gotta have your support people.
And your support people have to be
willing to, to do stuff that it was
painful for them to hold up his arms.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like- Yeah.
Yes.
And that's something- It was not
comfortable ⦠that I have really started
to see, like, at this point in my life.
Mm-hmm.
I'm sorry, I'm gonna give a little,
one little more sidebar, um, because my
parents are not in church at all anymore.
Oh.
Um, and they haven't been for a long time.
Oh.
Um, my siblings- Yeah.
Yeah ⦠not in church at all.
Yeah.
Um, and, you know, Daniel and I
feel the weight of that a lot.
Yeah.
That we're like, "We're
just gonna hold them up."
Yeah.
Yeah.
"We're just gonna hold them up."
Yeah.
"For however long it takes,
until the battle's won."
Yeah.
You know?
So I, I feel that one a lot.
Yeah.
Yep.
Yeah.
That's hard.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, it was good stuff.
This was really good.
Yeah.
I'm so glad you came by.
Oh, I had a good time.
And I feel like I wanna have you
back 'cause you know eventually
we're gonna start talking
about stuff we, we both think.
So eventually- Yep ⦠we'll get there.
Yes.
So.
Ooh.
Yeah.
I'm really excited- We'll get
there ⦠about that little
hint you just dropped there.
We'll get there.
We'll get there.
Yep.
Oh, my goodness.
And you have to come back.
Yeah.
So.
I will.
For sure.
I will.
It's so fun.
Well.
Well, thanks for coming.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thank you, guys.
Good times.
Yeah.
We'll see you later.
Bye.
Bye.
So good.
