A Texas judge who refused to officiate same-sex weddings on religious grounds has won a major legal victory. Judge Dianne Hensley of Waco was awarded $10,000 in damages and more than $630,000 in attorneys’ fees after being sanctioned by the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct. A Travis County court also barred the commission from “investigating, sanctioning, or disciplining” Hensley for declining such ceremonies because of her faith. First Liberty Institute, which represented her, said Hensley “always adhered to the law,” and attorney Hiram Sasser declared, “We are grateful that this case has concluded and that Judge Hensley was vindicated.” The dispute grew from her refusal to perform same-sex weddings while continuing opposite-sex ceremonies, though First Liberty says she provided referrals to ensure couples could still access low-cost wedding services.

Singer Joy Villa is opening up about her break from Scientology, telling “The Bible Bros Podcast” hosts Billy Hallowell and Dalton Harper that after years of spiritual confusion and personal trauma, “God **set me free.” Villa said sh**e was raised in an evangelical Christian home by a minister father, but after abuse in childhood and the loss of her parents, she became vulnerable to Scientology’s promises of belonging in Hollywood. She described being drawn in by the church’s warmth and services, saying, “They’re smiling, they’re bright, they’re clean,” before realizing, “It’s like boiling the frog very slowly.” Villa, who spent 15 years in Scientology, called it an “addiction” and said dark voices left her despairing until she collapsed and prayed, “Jesus help me.” Now rebaptized, Villa says, “I will never, ever go back to any man-made anything.”

Canadian psychologist and bestselling author Jordan Peterson says ongoing health problems are still keeping him off the podcast circuit and away from public lectures, but he plans to stay connected with supporters by releasing archived talks every week. In a social media message, the 64-year-old said, “We’re going to release a lecture a week from my extensive tour archive,” beginning Sunday, adding, “This allows me to do something interesting and useful while I’m otherwise incapacitated.” Peterson also acknowledged, “**My health is such at the mo**ment that I can’t really return to podcasting or public lecturing.” His daughter, Mikhaila Fuller, had said in April that he was battling a severe neurological condition, along with pneumonia and sepsis, calling the ordeal “hell” for the family, while expressing hope that “with proper doctors, it can be carefully healed again.”

Forrest Frank turned Nashville’s GEODIS Park into what many described as a massive worship gathering, drawing 25,000 fans for a nearly two-hour stop on his “Jesus Generation” tour. The 31-year-old Christian artist mixed chart-topping songs like “Good Day,” “Up!” and “Your Way’s Better” with hymns and worship staples, asking the crowd, “Who’s saying, ‘Send me, Jesus?’” and later, “Does anybody in here believe that when we pray something happens?” Frank also shared a deeply personal tribute to his late grandparents, saying of his grandfather, “He loved Jesus with his whole heart,” and calling his grandmother “a prayer warrior.” Author and speaker Sadie Robertson Huff joined him near the end, telling the crowd, “What an honor it is to be a part of the Jesus generation.” Tori Kelly opened the night.

In Brazil, a homeschooling case is drawing national attention after São Paulo parents Audato and Ieda Denardi became the first in the country to receive a criminal conviction for educating their children at home. A judge sentenced the couple to 50 days in prison, ruling their daughters’ curriculum failed to include state-approved lessons on “gender and sex education” and “tolerance and diversity.” The court also cited the girls’ dislike of “trap” and “sertanejo” music as evidence of cultural neglect, despite both being multilingual, accomplished pianists. The judge accused the parents of “using their daughters as pawns in an ideological struggle.” Ieda Denardi responded, “I could not conceive a more dictatorial state than the one that wants me in jail.” ADF International attorney Julio Pohl called the ruling “a grotesque abuse of the criminal law” as the family appeals.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched a formal investigation into Major League Baseball, accusing the league of possible religious discrimination after Christian players were warned over Bible verses written on their caps. The probe follows MLB’s warning to San Francisco Giants pitchers, including Landen Roupp and J.T. Brubaker, after they displayed verses from Genesis 9 during a Pride Night game. Uthmeier says MLB may be enforcing its rules selectively, allowing messages like Black Lives Matter patches, “United for Change” slogans, and other social justice statements while penalizing Christian expression. “**If MLB applauds ideolo**gical messages it prefers while reprimanding expressions of Christian faith, that is not neutral rule enforcement — it is religious discrimination,” Uthmeier said. The subpoena demands records by July 23, including enforcement history, themed-apparel policies, and actions involving Florida teams and Grapefruit League clubs.

A new U.K. study is challenging long-held assumptions about marriage and family stability, finding that marriage itself—not just income, age, or education—appears to significantly reduce the risk of separation. The report, *The Timing of Marriage and Union Dissolution*, was produced by the Marriage Foundation and the Centre for Social Justice, drawing on Harry Benson’s doctoral research at the University of Bristol. Benson said, “Marriage accounts for half or more of the gap in union dissolution,” after analyzing more than 3,300 couples from the Millennium Cohort Study. By a child’s 14th birthday, separation rates were 45% for parents who never married, compared with 26% for those married before conception. Benson concluded that “being married substantially increases the chances that parents stay together,” and urged policymakers to remove barriers discouraging marriage.
