And here’s today’s news from National Health Executive on Monday the 17th of June 2024.
Analysis from health think tank, the Nuffield Trust, has said that the Labour and Conservative manifestos would mean an unprecedented slowdown in NHS spending. Using the costed NHS policies set out in the manifestos to calculate how they would change NHS spending up to 2028/29, the Nuffield Trust says that the Conservative manifesto implies an increase of 0.9% each year between 2024/25 and 2028/29.
Labour’s is slightly higher at 1.1% over the same period but both would constitute a lower level of spending increase than the austerity period between 2010 and 2015. Nuffield Trust’s CEO, Thea Stein, said on the funding: “This would mark an unprecedented slowdown in NHS finances, and it is inconceivable that it would accompany the dramatic recovery all are promising.”
Several NHS staff and healthcare experts have been recognised in The King’s Birthday Honours list this year. Professor Janice Sigsworth, chief nurse at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, has been awarded a damehood for her services to nursing. Professor Moira Whyte of the University of Edinburgh has also been awarded a damehood for services to medical research.
Richard Douglas, chair at South East London ICB has been awarded a knighthood for his services to the region. NHS England’s CEO, Amanda Pritchard, said: “This is another opportunity to recognise the breadth of expertise within the health service – from embedding the latest technology into nursing and maternity care to supporting people with learning disabilities – these recipients all show the very best of the NHS.”
