Tune in, laugh out loud, and think a little deeper—because here, every fable has its truth.
Well, folks, let's talk about social media. I mean, really. Have you ever noticed how we've become a society obsessed with 'likes'? I'm not talking about enjoying a good meal or a great movie, no. I'm talking about that little blue thumbs-up symbol on Facebook. That darn thing has people doing the craziest stuff.
The other day I saw a guy, mid-forties, trying to do a backflip off a park bench, just to get a few more likes on his post. Now, I don't know about you, but the only flipping I'm doing in my forties involves a spatula and a pancake.
Then there's Instagram - Ah, the land of carefully crafted lives and unattainable beauty standards. You ever notice how everyone on Instagram is either eating at a five-star restaurant or vacationing in Bali? I mean, where are the people eating ramen noodles on their couch in sweatpants? That's reality, but you sure won't find it on Instagram.
And let's not even get started on Twitter. Twitter, where you can get into an argument with a stranger half a world away about whether pineapple belongs on pizza. I'll tell you right now - I don't care what your opinion is on pineapple pizza, but I do care about the fact that you took the time to argue with a stranger about it.
And who can forget about LinkedIn? If Facebook is the high school reunion you never wanted to go to, LinkedIn is the office meeting that should have been an email. It's a strange place where everyone is overly professional and uses too many buzzwords. I mean, can anyone tell me what “synergize the dynamic core competencies” really means?
But it's not just social media - it's tech in general. We've got all these devices now, each one smarter than the next. Your phone talks to your watch, your watch talks to your fridge, your fridge talks to your toaster. I mean, when did my kitchen appliances become more social than I am?
I guess what I'm trying to say is, can we slow down a bit? Maybe put down the phone, step away from the computer, and actually talk to each other? You know, like in the old days. When 'liking' something meant you actually enjoyed it, not that you double-tapped a screen.
But hey, what do I know? I'm just a guy with a microphone and a sense of humor. If you disagree, feel free to tell me... on Twitter, of course.
