Alpha-pinene is a monoterpene found in many conifer oils like Scotch Pine and Juniper Berry. This episode explores its unique structure, which folds into two rings, distinguishing it from other components like limonene. We also discuss how GC/MS data can reveal surprising information about oil composition, such as high alpha-pinene levels in Frankincense.

In this episode:
- Alpha-pinene is a monoterpene with a two-ring structure, unlike limonene.
- GC/MS reports can reveal unexpected alpha-pinene levels in oils like Frankincense.
- Recognizing chemical components helps in selecting oils for specific goals.

What is Best Practices in Aromatherapy with Aromahead?

Science-based aromatherapy you can actually use, from Certified Aromatherapists. Each episode is a recording of one of our live classes — hands-on sessions where we blend in real time, share recipes to nourish your skin, home, and spirit, and answer your questions along the way. Whether you're brand new to essential oils or deepening a practice you love, you'll come away with practical recipes and the confidence to make them your own.

Hello everyone! Welcome! I'm Jenny. And I'm Karen. We're here to talk about α-pinene, which is such a robust chemical component in the essential oil world. Every time we're out walking in the forest, we're smelling apinine. I love apinine, and I absolutely say this about every single chemical family that we study, But it's the truth. And you're going to find out today a little bit more about α-pinene. Many of you have gone through some of your coursework, even tried out some of your recipes. Let me bring up your comments here because I wanna welcome everybody here.

I know, a really warm welcome, especially if this is your first time with us, and we'll get into that in a little bit. I actually created a diffuser blend for this presentation too. Oh, you did? We have a diffuser blend. I know, I was, so I have, Selected the winners from our homework giveaway post, and I have put them in my slides. So I'm bringing up my slides, and I created a little diffuser blend. Ah, okay. I would love some water if we have our diffuser handy. We do. We have our little, our little— well, let's, let's do that while I grab our slides.

And I'm going to search, slide deck. Here we go. I even have our water in here already. There we go. Well, that's cool. I know, it's really cool. I thought we used to do Tea Time with Jenny and Karen, especially during the pandemic, because we just wanted to connect more with our students, with our community members. Thank you so much. We've got a little water. You want me to fill that up? Yes. Thank you. Thank you. You know, that was a really special time, our Tea Time, and this is so reminiscent of that because it's a way to connect.

It's a way to learn more about your essential oils. How to use them. It's almost like, well, I, I can't say it's almost like COVID right now, but with all the smoke around, I felt a little bit housebound, although I'm not really housebound. So thank you so much. That's really not, not the same at all. But you know what I mean? When you start, when things are different in the environment and it's good to be able to connect, to see what others are doing, everyone is going through their own things.

At home. And if you look through the thread, you can see that every single one of us has something different in different levels that we're dealing with. I know we love tea time too. And a lot of folks have been here since, um, way before tea time days. We just had a great time. We had a cup of tea. We talked about this. We talked about that. Well, you know, while I'm pulling this up, how about we go over our free gifts for today? We have— that's a good idea. Oh my goodness. Um, we do, we have that little, uh, orifice reducer tool because anyone who's here live, which is pretty exciting, we are giving away free gifts and this is your free gift for the week.

We kind of talked about this just a little bit too. So, um, there are certain essential oils that you wish you had one of these little nifty tools. There's different sizes for different bottles, different tops. There's a cool little thing here that pops off the top. I'm going to show you how it works. It makes life so much easier. You know, you can use your thumbnail and try to get it off too, or you can use a tool like this.

Let me move all of my supplies a little bit so you can see. You pop it under here. Get it right underneath. And you start working it off. I know it's so handy, especially, I think you probably just said this, we've been talking a lot about resinous oils in our Q&As. There's different sizes here too. Awesome. And then the top comes off like this. Yes. Now I use the smaller side, but here's the bigger side, and it comes off really easily.

Oh, I love it. And pops the top right off. Some of our heavier oils like myrrh, we kind of discussed that in our Q&As, that we had on Monday, how myrrh can get really crusty around the edges. It gets really gummy because it's from a diffuser. It's from a resin. And those, and those do get a little gummy. So it comes in very, very handy. So this is one of their free gifts. So this is the free gift for anyone who's here live. It's our thank you for being live with us. Um, it just makes the experience so much richer when you're here interacting in the comments.

It just makes everything come alive. So we're just encouraging folks to try, if they can, to take time to, to try to us when we do these live events. So our thank you to you, and we have a special link right there in— we're going to pin it to the chat today, and that link will be good for during our presentation and then an hour after our presentation ends. So you can click that link. There's no minimum order to get that free gift. You just have to order something. Excellent.

What else do you have there? Okay. Anyone who places an order over $40 who's in our Natural Living Lab or Natural Living Club will also get 100ml Lavender Hydrosol, which is our hydrosol. Useful for everything. And a 5ml of Cypress. Aye, aye, aye, aye. That's amazing. And if you— an extra bonus, if you are a Thrive member, we did our Thrive Q&A yesterday, you are also able to get your White Fir. Or White Pine. Was it White Fir or White Pine?

White Fir. Thank you so much. White Fir. We only talked about it for a whole hour. Or White Fir if you're an ex— so one thing I want to show you too, there's a couple of ways to keep track of everything. Now if you are an Aromatics International customer, all you need to go is go to your account, go to your dashboard right here, and this is how you're able to see everything you're eligible for when it comes to free gifts because there's a lot of pieces.

We have our Thriving Aromatherapists professional community where we just do a deep dive with essential oils, one oil a month. We also have our Natural Living Club. Right now we have our Natural Living Lab where our 6-week chemistry series is going. And so it can be kind of challenging to keep track of all of these things that are moving, so we created an extra perk, Current Promos, at the top of your dashboard at aromatics.com. So just log in, make sure you're in there, and then you can really keep track of everything that's happening.

Can you make that a little bigger? I want to see what that says on there. How's that? Oh, very good. So it has the current promos up there, and this is at aromatics.com in your own account. Yep. Great. I know, that is great. And over at aromahead.com, and then we will get to our presentation, over at aromahead.com, I don't know if you've noticed, but we have a brand new Dashboard view. Not now, let's not do that. So this is what it looks like if you're an aromahead.com student.

Well, I tried doing that and it gave me a little— how's that? That's perfect. That's perfect. So this is your aromahead.com student dashboard, and this is where you can see different upcoming events that you are eligible to attend. And this is where you can get your certificates, you can see what path you're on, you can see recommended next steps. You can see different courses that you're in, which is really exciting, and you're able to just have everything in one place in an even more robust manner.

Yeah, that's so awesome. Yeah. And, and it does get confusing, so I'm glad that things are getting put into special spots. Yes. Where you can easily find them. Exactly. All right, so I want to go over and I want to do our leaderboard thank you gifts now. Even if you're only in our Natural Living Club or Natural Living Lab for 5 minutes a week, or maybe you weren't even able to get in this summer because it's been so busy, or maybe you're in every single day, we just want to give our leaderboard, 7-day leaderboard folks—I

know you're in there every day. All day. All day. I am. So fun. I know. Can I have a gift card? You can. You can have as many gift cards as you want. I love it. Great. Okay, so I want to give $25 gift cards to our 7-day leaderboard folks over in the Natural Living Lab. So extra special thank you to Alicia, Donna, Shelley, Chris, Karen, Angie, Denise, Joanna, Wendy, and Teresa. We really appreciate all of your efforts.

It takes a lot of effort to make the leaderboard. It does. So thank you for being in there and doing that. Alicia pointed out she She made a post or a comment over in the Natural Living Club, and she mentioned that she just last week decided, you know, I want to try to make the leaderboard, and she put in a lot of hours and she did. So anyone— Awesome. Even if you're just joining us for the first time today, you can dive in and make the leaderboard, which is, which is great. All right, let's go over to the Natural Living Club. I'm going to refresh because it says one new post. Here we go. So let's go down to our, do our thank you gifts for our 7-day leaderboard.

members in the Natural Living Club, which is Auntie, Janet, Alicia, Angie, Shelley, Chris, Richa, Catherine, Amy Vittal, and Donna. Thank you so much, everyone. Some of you are getting $50, which is great. It is. What a great way to get supplies. I know. So really, anyone who is just, who just got 2 thank you gifts, that gets you over the $40 minimum order. So really, you're getting Everything for free plus an extra $10.

Yeah, I definitely want on the leaderboard. Okay, that's great. Okay, so I'm gonna go ahead, pull up your comments over here. We have our slides, we're ready to go. This is what happens. I, every week I tell myself, don't make changes to the slides right before you go live. And every week I make a little change. So here we are. Well, you know, you have a long drive down here. And I have a long time to think about it. You're sitting in the car as you're driving thinking, hmm, I think I think I want to change out this slide. I know.

I warned Kiran and I said, when we get down to our warehouse at Aromatics International where our studio is, there's some slides you haven't seen yet. I can't wait. All right, so welcome to Lesson 5. This is how we are looking at our essential oil work in this 6-week series. We're looking component by component, and this week is our α-pinene week. We opened up your course Saturday morning, and now it's time to talk about α-pinene altogether.

So thank you for being here, thank you for being in the comments. This is such a grounding chemical component. When you work with oils that are rich in α-pinene, there's just a grounding, a relaxing element that comes, as well as many other therapeutic emotional energetic properties we'll talk about soon. I made a slide on that. I'm so glad. Okay, so before we dive in, we want to do a diffuser blend just to kind of set the tone and just to kind of usher in a spirit of learning, of nurturing, and to just send a lot of love and goodwill

from our studio out into your world. So we're gonna be working with 2 drops of our Frankincense Sacra, which is one of our featured oils in α-pinene in our lesson this week, 2 drops of our Lavandula angustifolia, which I have to tell you, our workshop here at Aromatics International Smells amazing. We've been— we are in our second week of our distillation for our lavender field, and I think we might have blood orange. Oh, you found it. Yeah, found the blood orange. If you check the story today, I showed a quick little glimpse out there.

So they're diffusing the flowers. Oh, that's awesome. I didn't even see that yet. So Devin is saying that he went out. So we're distilling lavender from our lavender fields, high-altitude lavender field here in western Montana, and Devin put up a story On our, is it Aromatics or Aromahead? @aromatherapy. It's, sorry, let me find it. It's the Aromahead account. It's the, it's @aromahead, our socials. We have a little, uh, video that Devin went out and took. Oh wow. I know. It's, it smells so nice. Maybe you can pop the link in in a bit.

Well, actually just on the stories. We have so many links. Oh, it's on the stories. Yeah, it's on a story. So you just have to watch a story on Instagram. Yep. For Aromahead. Okay. All right, well, let's go ahead and make this blend together. So it's 2 drops of our Frankincense Sacra, 2 drops of our Lavandula angustifolia, and 1 drop of Blood Orange. Let's go ahead and put that together. Okay. So we'll put our fresh tap water, and again, this is also— we want to create just a little moment for you to just give yourself permission to take a deep breath, close your eyes, and get really centered and grounded, unless you're driving.

Then keep them open and stay centered and grounded. Look at that. Oh, that's beautiful. I love, I love that. I don't know if you can see this as I put it in, but you'll see a little bit of orange on here. So we're, we're stop— we're starting with blood orange at the bottom. Yes. One drop. One drop of blood orange. Whoa, we got 2 in there. That's fine. And that's fine. I got excited about blood orange because I love blood orange. I know, it's so nice. So 2 drops of frankincense sacra, and of course you can use frankincense carteri instead if that's what you have on hand.

2 drops. There you go. And then 2 drops of beautiful lavender. And if you don't have lavender, find another floral that you might have on your shelf. So 2 drops of lavender, because we're bringing in our resin, our floral, and our citrus. So you can see that we are layering in the different essential oils and chemical components that we've been working with during this 6-week series. And this is where that synergy comes in and where you can really have fun putting together Multifaceted essential oil blends.

Do you see how simple this was? And it smells amazing. Oh, I love it. It is so beautiful. Beautiful. It brings in so many of our different families in here, and we've got our α-pinene, we've got our linalool, our linalyl acetate, and we've got our D-limonene. It's just such a powerful blend. I just felt a whole release when I, when I smelled that. Oh, that's fantastic. I'm gonna set this off to the side. I know, and if you do have these oils and you do want to put this diffuser blend together, please feel free to do so.

And I love the idea of just imagining either this diffuser blend or the different recipes we're making in this 6-week series. They're happening all over the world in kitchens and labs and on your workbench, and it's just incredibly connected of us. It makes it, it makes us feel, in my mind, so much more connected when we're all making the same recipes globally all over the world, which is pretty cool. It's very cool. All right, so let's go ahead and ease into our workshop today.

So, the clearest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness. I love this. Here in Montana, everyone loves John Muir. We are all about nature, and you can find different quotes of his all over if you go into different restaurants or in different— there's one at the It's painted up on the wall there. So we're going to go into the forest together and just really get to know this chemical component, α-pinene. We'd love to know if this is your first time with us, if you could let us know, pop a 1 into the chat.

If you again are new to us here in this series, that means you've been popping in a 2 for weeks now, but thank you, keep popping in a 2. And if you've been here for a while, pop in a 3, and it'd be just so much fun to know how long. I wrote a letter of recommendation. One of our students wants to start and just got approved for a Spanish-speaking NAHA Level 1 school. Emiliano got approved, which is great. I wrote a letter of recommendation for him, and he's been with us for 7 years and just started his own school, which is great. That's very awesome. So congratulations to Emiliano if you're here.

It'd be fun to know how long you've been here. We've— the Aromahead Institute has been around since the '90s, so some of you have the opportunity to put almost 30 years in if you have been here since the late '90s. Which is pretty cool. All right, so in the chat, and I know we're asking for a lot of interaction in the chat, so we've got our 1s, 2s, and 3s coming in. We have 1s, I love that. This is your very first time with us. Welcome. We are so excited to just introduce you to this new community, and this is our live event that we are doing on α-pinene.

It also pairs with the Natural Living Lab right now. where our 6-week chemistry series is going, and it's just such a warm, welcoming, nurturing group of people, all levels of expertise. We have clinical aromatherapy work happening as well as folks who are learning what an essential oil is for the first time. So you have found your new community of people, and we're so happy that you're here. Kiran just smiles at me. She's like, what's on the slides? I'm excited to see. Well, I just appreciate everybody who is taking their time to be in our school group, putting comments in there.

And I do realize that we give gift certificates for those top 10 on there. That's just a gift of gratitude for us, but we're so grateful for every single one of you. That's fantastic. Okay, so by the end of our time together, you'll be able to look at α-pinene on a GC/MS report. And we did a little guessing game in lesson 5, And if you know about that game, we'll have a question and an answer ready for you. We are going to make a muscle pain relief blend.

We are actually going to be using trauma oil and not Arnica oil. We'll tell you more about that when we go to blend our blend today. And then we're going to talk about the way we choose carriers and how we go about that when we— as we're about to make a substitution for our blend today. And then of course we've got our winners for our giveaway. We'll go over in just probably the next slide. Yep, here we go. Congratulations to our 3 homework giveaway winners. So we've got Teresa E., we've got Dawn G., and Lori M.

So congratulations. Please email team@aromahead.com and Mina will get you lifetime access to one of Karen's paid workshops. It's one of my favorite paid workshops. It's called Natural Perfumes for emotional and physical well-being. It's a $129 workshop, and all 3 of these folks are getting this course for free. Now we have— we started last week, and we're carrying on this week. If you would like to enroll in our Natural Perfumes for Emotional and Physical Well-Being, you have the opportunity to do so at 50% off tuition from now until midnight tonight.

Wow, awesome. Which is pretty cool. I love that course. And, you know, there's a list of supplies when— once you're in the course. Yes. All your information is there. Yep. Question about diffusing: how best should I clean my diffuser when I'm finished with it so the next time I add different oils it doesn't have any trace of the previous oils? What I like to do is as soon as I'm done with my diffuser, I take it, I dump it out, and I wash it really well with hot soapy water inside, and I try to do that every single time— Yes.

That I diffuse. Now sometimes I don't mind there being the same aroma in there, but you do that for more than just the aroma. You do it to keep the reservoir nice and clean so that you're not promoting different bacteria in there. So to clean it out once a week If you're using it every day and you just keep adding new water, really doesn't do the trick. So you need to at least do it every, every couple of days for sure. Well, there you go. Thank you for answering that question. There was a little issue.

We went to a black screen for a second. Yes. We fixed it. So you might just mention that real quick. If you saw a black screen, we had a little tech, you know, anytime you do a live event, there's a chance of a million things going wrong. We always manifest that everything will go right, but we did just have a black screen for a second. So you might need to refresh. To get your, uh, to get the video to come back up, but you should be good now. Okay. I thought you were saying I might have to repeat what I just said. Well, I don't think so. I think audio, audio was working.

It's just, um, it was just a black screen for a second. Okay. Very good. So let's go over to my slides. If you again would like to know more about the Natural Perfumes for Emotional and Physical Well-Being, um, and you would like to enroll, you have the opportunity to do so. Um, you get 50% off tuition. For everyone who is here inside of the Natural Living Lab or Natural Living Club. So that's $64.50, which is well worth it. So in this workshop, you learn how to make, um, you learn how to make 5 therapeutic natural perfumes for grounding, emotional release, a calm nervous system, joy, and a clear mind.

You learn blending with top, middle, and base notes, and you get to learn more about essential oils, attars, and, and how absolutes all differ. It's probably one of our most popular workshops. I know, I'm pretty excited about that. If you are excited and you are going to take us up on the invitation to enroll for 50% off, if you could put in a 7, because I'm just curious because we're trying out different things, what's resonating and what you're appreciating. So if you're excited about that and you want to enroll today, just pop in a 7. Be sure and use that special link so that you get that 50% off.

Yes. of the workshop as well. I know we've got a lot of folks who are already in the perfume workshop, so if you do already have that course in your account, you can check your student dashboard. But if you do click that link, it will just go to a blank screen. We learned that last week because some folks had the respiratory workshop already. That's a good clue. Yeah. That's a good clue that you're already in, and you can go back through. I love going back through those workshops. Yes, I know. That one was one of my favorite ones to make. Yeah. Okay, great.

I have a post running over in the Natural Living Lab. I asked members to weigh in on what prize they would like to pair with our Lesson 5 homework giveaway, and we decided to go ahead and do the Pinion Pine workshop. A lot of folks were like, I really want to do the Pinion Pine, and it works so well with α-pinene. Beautiful workshop. Yep. So if you want to weigh in on our future giveaways, please go ahead and do so. Yeah. Oh good, some folks already have it. I love it. Okay, so when you walk through a pine forest, or if you're in a park, or if you're just walking by a pine tree and you kind of feel your shoulders drop, then you've already met α-pinene, which is just one of those key chemical components in essential oil work

that is researched that helps us know how the oil is going to act and interact with in terms of different therapeutics and energetics. So α-pinene is a monoterpene, so it's the same quick -ene family as week 2's D-limonene. So 10 carbons, no functional group at all. So why forest instead of fruit? And the answer is in the architecture. So limonene, D-limonene, L-limonene— limonene folds its carbons into one ring. Pinene—and there's α-pinene and β-pinene— folds them into 2 fused rings.

So it's all about What that chemistry looks like inside that little bottle. Exactly. So like a tiny pine cone, this is how pinene again folds into— folds its rings like a tiny pine cone and comes out forest instead of orange. So the conifers all have it. We have pine or pines, there's many pines, juniper, cypress, lots of firs. And this is where when you start to Smell all the oils that are rich in α-pinene together, like we've been doing for linalool, linalool acetate, d-limonene, you start to also get to know the aroma of the chemistry.

That's right. Which is pretty cool. And I like how, you know, we can see that it's a monoterpene if it's -ene, but we also have sesquiterpenes that end in -ene, and they have a completely different chemical structure. And if we're starting to sound like Charlie Brown's parents, don't worry, you have a whole lifetime to learn essential oil chemistry. So remember that it can take a while for brand new concepts to sink in. So the more you hear how we approach chemistry and the more you hear and honestly, you don't necessarily need to know the specific structure of these chemical components.

It's just fun to— for those of you who love to geek out around chemistry and want to layer into learning more about blending with chemistry, we wanted to make sure you knew the background in terms of what these molecules look like. And there's a lot of talk, and has been over the years, about forest bathing. Uh-huh. We've talked about that a lot as well. I love it. And this α-pinene is one of the reasons why that forest bathing is such a unique, beautiful, calming experience. Mm-hmm, exactly.

And again, the oils that are rich in α-pinene, they're gonna be so helpful if you're feeling scattered in the morning, in the days, spinning, or your body's been working really hard because α-pinene is so good for muscle relaxation and pain relief, or if you just have a friend that is going through something that just needs some solid grounding. Life has its ups and downs and peaks and valleys, and if you have a friend or yourself who is in a valley, making blends rich in α-pinene is going to be a really big asset. Absolutely.

All right, so true or false? This is the guessing game we hid in lesson 5 on Saturday, and today we are going to go ahead and give you the answer. So true or false, the oil in your kit with the most α-pinene is one of the pine or forest oils. I'm glad Donna liked my Charlie Brown reference. You know, I was just thinking, I don't think I ever saw Charlie Brown's parents. Well, that's right, you don't. All you hear is they don't actually say words at all.

And sometimes when I am supposed to be listening to someone and I haven't been listening at all because I'm ADHD, I think of Charlie Brown's parents. I reengage, I focus. You say you learn something every time, and I also learn something every time here. I did not know that about Charlie Brown's parents. Yep, that's going to make me laugh now every time I'm talking to someone that I'm not listening to. I know, that's the problem with the Charlie Brown's parents metaphor is that you will laugh out loud because you're like, oh no, I need to focus in.

Make eye contact, engage. I try to listen every time, but you know. Oh good, we've got lots of answers flooding in, and the answer is false. When we look at the kit that we have suggested, that we've put together intentionally, we looked at in each chemical component, we selected a certain number of oils that you had the opportunity to just play around with 2 or 3 or 4 oils rich in that component. So in the α-pinene list, we actually— the highest, the highest a-pinene we can find in Frankincense (Boswellia sacra), which is really fascinating and not intuitive because we're talking about pines.

Yep, I love that. It's— that is unusual. Yes. So Frankincense Sacra, our current batch over at Aromatics International— I had— I pulled these numbers straight from the current batches over at Aromatics— is 67.12% of α-pineneotch pine comes in at a robust 25.52%, which is still a great amount of α-pinene. Juniper berry, 24%, almost 20, basically 25%. Rosemary, chamomile, camphor, 18%, still a very robust amount of our alpha-pinene.

And blood orange comes in at 0.84%, so not really rich at all in alpha-pinene. So it's good to know. Yeah, that's a great graph. But the Blood Orange is probably like, what do you think, 70% d-limonene? Right. Right, so there you go. And that's how when folks are not getting the results they're looking for with their essential oil work, I always want to think, well, what oils are you inviting into which situations? Because when you know that, oh, one of my friends is going through a hard time, also has a back that's hurting, maybe I'm going to put Frankincense Sacra in the blend because that'll help both With uplifting, grounding, but also that pain relief.

And that's how you know why, because it's rich in apigenin. Well, Anasia, and I know I said your name wrong, was flabbergasted when she saw the report. Well, there you go. And I love that word, flabbergasted. Well, and you know, I— we've had a lot of, lot of just big aha moments for folks, and that's why we love doing, um, these different 6-week series. We did a 6-Week Makeover, um, this spring, and we're just We're just coming to the end. We have one more, 2 more weeks really of our 6-week chemistry series because it's so much fun for us to give you those aha moments and be like, oh, that's why I love sandalwood, or that's why I love rose, or whatever it might be.

Yes, exactly. I know Thymely says Rock Rose has 56%. That's great. I know we were playing around with Thymely, which is our own personal aromatherapy assistant. Thymely Premiumm can search any of our courses any content we've ever created, and we have created the largest body of content so far of any aromatherapy school or community in the world. So it searches all of that, and our Thymely Premium can actually come up with recipes and suggest alternatives.

So it's a pretty powerful tool. We were going over it with our Thriving Aromatherapist folks yesterday, and I was like, okay. Yeah, that was a lot of fun. That was a lot of fun. I think it's been— I had to stop myself because Suddenly I realized I could spend a lot of time on here just going through and say, oh, by the way, I was just wondering this. I know. And suddenly you realize, hey, I'm on a time-limited— So if you have an opportunity, if you would like to multitask, or you can do this later, in your aromatherapy collection right now, do you have a hunch, or

if you have an opportunity to look it up, what is the biggest α-pinene number in your house right now? Maybe you have Frankincense Sacra, maybe you have a Pine or Juniper Berry, Cypress, a Fir, Spruce, Rosemary. What do you have? Because not everyone went ahead and did the recommended supply kit because you have a lot of oils already. So based on the 8 oils rich in a-pinene right now, what is the oil you have on your shelf that's the richest in a-pinene? And then if you have a chance to find the specific number, you can always multitask and do that too.

I thought we'd just linger here for a couple of minutes and let folks just do some active homework. That's something we're trying out this week, some active homework inside of the presentation. So if you want to open up another screen, or maybe you're— we have a lot of folks who are secretly tuned in from work, so they're being aromatherapy spies right now, so this might not be the time to do it. I'm also going to put a post up in the Natural Living Lab for you to do this and put this specific number with the oil you have on your shelf that's the richest in α-pinene.

And it's just fun to look at the number and see. I know, lots of rabbit holes. Yep. I see some of you also have the same thing going on. There you go. So juniper berry, Scotch pine. I love it. Frankincense. Yeah. There we go. You know, I'm so glad we have Scotch Pine in here because it's such a beautiful oil. Mm.

And what's, what's fun about doing presentations with Karen and creating content with Karen is she knows the Scotch Pine distiller personally, and she sources all of these products. So she has relationships with different producers in over 60 different countries, and I just love knowing the percent that That's fantastic. Yeah. Um, Emiliana was asking about the difference between Frankincense Sacra and Carteri. There you go. And of course we all smell things differently, but Frankincense Sacra typically has a little more α-pinene in it than the Carteri.

Not always, but typically it has a few different little, components in it. Some people say they're from the same tree, the same resin. But because the chemistry is different, a little bit different, it definitely is from different trees and different resin. And I find the frankincense, uh, Sacra to be just a little bit more earthy, a little bit more robust. The Carteri is a little bit airier, a little bit more citrusy. It's really fascinating. Oh, I love it.

I know we played a little game on a live event once where we were smelling the frankincenses just to see if we could tell the difference. And we did. We guessed the differences. They, they are unique. They are very unique. It's fun to do them. side by side, but if you do test an oil against another, choose one oil first, smell it, smell the second one, then go away and come back. Walk away, come back an hour later, choose the other one first and smell it, and you'll get a different smell on the second one. That's great.

And Sally, she just ordered her Scotch Pine and can't wait to smell it. I can't wait for you to smell it, Sally. You'll have to come do a little report and let us know what you think when it, when it arrives in your mailbox. All right, well, let's go ahead and keep going with our slide deck here. And again, we know that not everyone can multitask and pull up a GC-MS report right now and check out the α-pinene content of your a-pinene oils, so I'll put this post up in the Natural Living Lab so we are able to have fun with this a little bit later. That's a good idea. Yes.

Okay, so we're gonna go ahead and make a muscle and joint comfort blend. This is a 1-ounce Now, the recipe that we put together for you probably 3 months ago now has 1 fluid ounce of Arnica-infused olive oil, and then 6 drops of our Frankincense Sacra, our 6 drops of Juniper Berry, and our 6 drops of Scotch Pine. Now, we have an Arnica oil drama to share with you.

Oh, I am— I'm actually going to blend in here. Oh, do you want to blend it? And I'm going to— Oh, for the video. Well, because Devin, he's going to cut this up for a little short, so he wants a fresh bottle. That would be good. So what we're sort of demonstrating is a lot of times Karen and I will just blend right in the carrier bottle and then we'll just write on it. It just saves a bottle. But Devin's going to take— he wants to create a little short of this for— Well, I'm actually going to do both ways. Okay, sure. So we have, as Jenny mentioned, many times we do blend in the same bottle.

If it's a 1-ounce bottle and it's a full bottle, I'll use it. Yeah. And just put a new label on it for sure. Or even just write on there. And that's kind of getting down to the more quick and dirty aromatherapy. Although if you're making a blend for someone, it's nice to put a special label on, and it's nice to have the date and what's in it and the name of the blend and all of that just helps. So I might make this a little— do you want this a little bigger? I kind of sense you might. How's that? Oh, that's good. Well, I don't know if it's— That's good.

Yeah. All right. So in the blend, it's a muscle and joint comfort blend. It's in 1 fluid ounce, which is 30 mL. Thank you, Devin. It calls for 1 fluid ounce of Arnica. We're going to be putting in Trauma Oil, which is great. Either one of them work fine depending on what you have on your shelf. Trauma Oil does have arnica in it. It's one of the 3: arnica, calendula, and St. John's wort. Next week we're going to try to remember— I called Karen too late because the arnica is up in her house in olive oil, and you have to stir it twice a day.

Yes, and so that's why it's at my house here is because we had a big snowstorm right when the arnica was coming up and getting ready to blossom. We had like heavy, heavy snow that came down in the late spring in May, and it took out most of the flowers. I know. So we're having a very low arnica harvest year. So we're saving most of our arnica that my dad was able to go out and wildcraft in the mountains. Yeah, and he did. And so he's been faithfully stirring that twice a day, and it's just about ready to pour.

And we thought we would show you. I just called too late today, but next week we'll have— so join us live next week. We'll show you what the arnica looks like as it's infusing. And so we're saving a lot of our Arnica to blend into Trauma Oil, as it's one of the 3 infusions that go into make this gorgeous carrier. And so we're going to be working with Trauma Oil today instead of Arnica, as we are going to be doing that a lot this year because we're saving our Arnica for Trauma Oil. The rest of this recipe is 6 drops of our Frankincense Sacra, 6 drops of our Juniper Berry, and 6 drops of our Scotch pine.

Yes. So equal drops in this blend. And α-pinene's one of its treasures, one of its therapeutic properties is it's tremendous for our pain blends. As we're using these, we're also getting our emotional support as frankincense also is— they're all great for pain. Also helps to kind of bring that stress down a little bit and opens up the breath. All of these do all of these things. May I tell the bear story really fast?

Bear story, Stacia. So many years ago, so Karen and Larry, my parents, live way up in the mountains right on Forest Service land, which is where we go and do a lot of wildcrafting on their property too. Well, it surrounds us. It surrounds. So they had a whole bunch of arnica infusing in olive oil, on a big table outside of their house, and my— who looked out the window? Well, I went out there and discovered that a bear had found it.

I had them all around the table, and I had some in the middle. Giant? They were all 1-gallon containers. Yes. And that bear went in. He didn't grab the one on the edges. He went and grabbed the one right in the middle, Took it out and he was eating through it. And took the top off. Took the top off. With his little paws. Made quite a mess. And drank it. So for years after, we've been taking the arnica down to our warehouse here to stir it. He was so interested. I scared— the bear ran away and we thought, uh-oh, we have to take these all in now.

The bear has found it. The bear has found them. So we're risking it this year. So far, no bears have had a nice little arnica oil snack. That's right. Maybe he was in pain. He could have been. He— animals just tend to know what they need. Yeah. And the arnica grows profusely right out my front door. In bear country. In bear country. So you know that he, he had a reason for that. It wasn't just the olive oil, right? So it was really interesting to me. Yeah, that is— it wasn't his first time seeing arnica. It wasn't his first time seeing, and it's like, oh, you put it in olive oil for me.

Thank you. Well, are you ready to put this blend together? We're ready to put this blend together. Thank you, Stacia, for reminding us about the bear story. I'm going to use this 4-ounce trauma oil to pour into my bottle, but if I had the 1-ounce, I would just blend it directly into the 1-ounce. And I want to just pour a little bit in here to show you the color of it, and I think I have a little bit wider one. Yeah, that might work a little better. Because it is It has such a rich color because it is 3 different herbal infusions: St.

John's wort, calendula, and arnica. So it's a little bit darker than your regular, let's say, jojoba or sweet almond oil. It's a little bit darker. The St. John's wort on its own is, is quite red. And now I'm just going to simply, put the oil right into my 1-ounce container. There you go. There we go. And we're doing this to show you the color. So you don't have to use— You don't have to use this. And then I'll just fill this up just below the neck and then just start dropping my oils in.

2 drops of our Scotch Pine, and for some reason I'm starting from the bottom up today. Well, over here I think we actually have 6 drops of Scotch Pine. 3, 4, 5, 6. And this is again a 3% blend. Then we'll do our— we might as well keep 6 drops of our— I think I got a couple extra drops in there. Well, that's great. But that's perfectly fine on that. So 6 drops of our juniper berry, and these 2 oils alone are just amazing.

We have a lot of bear stories coming in in the comments. I love it. And then 6 drops of our Frankincense Sacra. There we go. And then always label your blend with the date that you made it, what's in your blend. Whoops, that's the wrong top. And I like to make sure I roll it around. Blend it up super well.

Take a whiff. Oh, it smells so good. We have a— we had a conversation going inside of the Natural Living Lab. One gal made a 10% headache blend and she was like, is that a lot? Because you're recommending 3% dilutions. And this is where, in my answer to her, you go from everyday aromatherapy and you can layer into clinical-level aromatherapy when you have the information to do so.

We typically recommend 3% for everyday pain relief blends because we want you to be able to use it regularly. So, and then to use it, like a 10% blend or a 5% blend, you would use it on a very specific area. For an acute situation. For a 3% blend is also, we don't use it for long-term, but we can use it for a longer-term for sure, You would just pour a little bit in your hand like that, and then you put it on a sore area, maybe a sore spot

here. But it's— you could put it in more spots yet over your whole arm. Ooh, that feels really good. It's so smooth. There you go. This is infused in olive oil. It's not greasy, soaks right in. And then always smell your hands when you're done. Get that respiratory going as well. Mmm, that's just beautiful. It is beautiful. Then this you can use for a couple weeks at a time until you are feeling better.

If you want to use a pain blend in an ongoing way, you would take it down to a 2% or a 1%, just depending on the situation. And that's why we love giving as much information around how, why, when, where, who you're blending for. All of these things come into making a really good blend. And, you know, Kris, you bring up a good point here. Always when you're blending, Kris likes to rub between her palms to give it her positive energy. Yes. Anytime I'm blending, whenever possible, there are some emergency situations such as When I broke my foot, Jenny was quickly, you know, getting the oils together for pain relief for my foot.

But typically you would just imagine what you're doing, send that positive energy into it, and what this blend is going to do with those, for those who you're blending for. I love that. Someone just asked the question if this would be good for a stressed neck, and yes, it would be very good for a stressed neck. Very good. Absolutely. Especially if you can find a buddy who can give you a neck rub. Yes, you can use it for headaches as well. Yep. If you wanted to spruce this up a little bit, you could put a couple of drops of peppermint in it if you're dealing with a severe headache, for instance.

That would be very cooling, for instance, and bring cooling aspect in and another analgesic route with the peppermint oil. Yes, I love it. All right, I'm going to go back over to my slides over here. I'll see what I missed over here. Would an applicator bottle work for this blend? Yes, absolutely. You could use an applicator bottle with a dropper on it. You could also put this into a roller bottle blend. This would make 3 different 10 ml roller bottles. So you could give it away as gifts as well.

Mm-hmm. These oils are all— do well with children. When we blend for children, we use 5 to 6 total drops for those who are 5 and older. for the blends. Usually our little, little ones don't have an issue with a lot of pain, but sometimes they might have a little bit of pain. There might be times when I would just use the trauma oil on its own for a painful situation for any age child. Or baby. Yes. And like Shelley's saying, trauma oil works really well just on its own for pain and inflammation relief.

Yes, exactly. Yes. So, and that's my preference for children. Sometimes just for myself, if it's a painful area and I don't have any essential oils but I do have my trauma oil, I will use the trauma oil, and it is great. It brings a lot of relief on its own. It's a perfect carrier for our oils too. I love it. On this slide, we have a recipe for a ground Open and Release inhaler. So this would be an in your inhaler, 6 drops of our Frankincense Sacra, 5 drops of our Ravintsara, and 4 drops of our Bergamot Mint.

Now we had a really great Q&A this Monday, and after we're done with our presentation, whoever wants to stick around and just have fun with some experiments, we have a conversation going on using salt in an inhaler that personally I haven't done before. So after we're done with our full presentation, And we're gonna stick around and do some experiments. I'm kidding. I'll run and grab that when it comes down to the time. All right. Yeah. That sounds awesome. But it just reminded me, because we have an inhaler blend here, and I promised we would do some experiments after our presentation today.

Okay, all we need is some salt. And an inhaler. Yep. Salt and an inhaler. We have it over here. I'll just grab it. Okay. But we're gonna continue with the presentation. And a bottle like this. Yeah, this is what I would use. Yeah, okay, good. Okay, well, if you want, if you want to stick around for the experiment, uh, we're going to be doing that after we're officially done, and we'll just hang out a little bit. Perfect. Okay, so grounding is just the first of α-pinene's gifts. Now, as a reminder, this is just a, an appetizer or a sample platter for how you can really get into chemistry and blend with chemistry and with that lens.

Here at the Aromahead Institute, at Aromatics International, We love looking at blending with the heart, the art, and the science of aromatherapy. And science is such a big part of that. It's not the whole picture because you want the art and you want the heart of aromatherapy to come in, but it does really ground in terms of which oils to reach for in which moments. So, α-pinene also does other things outside of grounding, although the mini courses we have here in the 6-week series are designed to take 1 to 3 hours per week, right?

Right, so there's so much more we could talk about with α-pinene. I just wanted to mention it here. So we have that it's very comforting for pain and inflammation. Analgesic is just a big word to say pain. It's very anti-inflammatory. That's why we have it in our pain and inflammation relief blend. It's a natural protector. It is naturally antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral. It's antispasmodic. It is— it has, again, so many important things.

It's energizing for a foggy head. And yes, you will be getting a copy of these slides. I'll be putting them into the Lesson 5 course inside of the Natural Living Lab. Are you looking something up? Well, I was looking at some comments for sure, and there is a lot of different Arnica— Arnica's out there, and you would think that it would be The Arnica would be the Montana one here, but it's the cordifolia. Well, there you go. Yeah, it has a bigger— it's a bigger flower.

I forget that. I forget that, but it is. It is a bigger flower. And it is, when I learned that, I was like, huh, interesting. So α-pinene is one of the most widely occurring terpenes in the plant world. It's well studied and part of why all of the oils that are rich in apinene feel both energizing and functionally supportive. All right. You know that anxiolytic, which is, you know, helping to decrease the anxiety. I can feel that. Yeah. When I smell this blend, when I put this blend on with the α-pinene in it.

Right. And we don't want you to forget about your free gifts. So those of you who maybe you joined after we announced, but anyone who's here and for an hour after we're done with our presentation today, don't forget that your free gift is this really handy tool. Where it's different sizes and you're able to easily pop off the orifice reducer on some of your thicker oils like myrrh, different resinous oils, it's just vetiver. It's just handy to just be able to pop off the orifice reducer in a really quick way.

So this is your free gift today on any order. There's no minimum to place at aromatics.com, and you have, you have an hour after we're done to finish placing your order and get that People were asking about the Blend in a roller bottle. Oh yeah. Those 3 holes in the middle, that's for seating your roller bottle too. Oh, there you go. That's perfect. So the 3 holes in the middle are actually for helping to stabilize your roller bottle. To place it so you can pop it in. Oh, so you can pop it in. Push on. Oh, there you go. I didn't know that until this, this very moment, and it's my own tool.

Yeah, it's easy. It is hard to pop on a roller bottle top And that's a little tool so you're able to do that and take it off, which is pretty cool. Yeah, it's very cool. There you go. All right, well, we are coming to the end of our official presentation, but don't you worry, we have some experiments to do, or an experiment to do after we're done. So there's— we could talk for weeks and weeks and weeks, years, about different approaches and ways to choose carrier oils, and we had a lot of questions in the comments, can I use jojoba in this blend?

Can— why would you use this or that? One thing to keep in mind is you can use the products you have around you. Like if you have jojoba and you don't have Arnica or Trauma, you're welcome to use jojoba. The carrier does bring an element of healing and nurture to a blend for sure, and each carrier does that. And it has different properties on its own, but you certainly, if in a pinch or if you'd like to, you can blend with jojoba. It's always a good standard.

I always have trauma oil on my shelf. Yes. However, I always keep it at home for the grandkids, for myself, anybody who might need it. There might be a supply issue this year until the arnica blooms again next year, so if you don't have trauma oil on your shelf, I would get at least a small bottle of it to have on hand because you'll be shocked at how it works so well for bruising. One thing about trauma oil and arnica oil is you never want to put those on an open sore area.

Mm-hmm. You always want to keep it on a closed area. You can put it around an area that has swelling going on, and once it has closed over, then you absolutely can put the trauma oil on. It also helps to keep the skin a little bit soft around the area. Abrasions are just just fine with it. It works very well. The bruising— anytime there's bruising, that inflammation, that it brings the bruising up from the surface. Mhm. And so it might look a little more purple and bluish at first, but it helps it to dissipate more quickly.

Mhm. Yes, thank you for that explanation. Madeline is asking if there's a code to get the Orifice Reducer gift. Yeah, it's pinned to the chat. It's pinned to the So you just click that link, make sure you have something in your cart. Now remember, you're also— oh, that's cute, you just put it there. You're also able to get additional free gifts on any order over $40. There's no minimum to get the free gift for being here live, but if you want to get extra gifts on any order over $40, you also not only will get the orifice reducer tool, removal tool, or roller bottle The whole tool to help

your workbench. You can also get a lavender hydrosol and a 5 ml of our Cypress essential oil, which is pretty cool. Cypress is right up there. And those of you who are in our ThriveEO Community can also get your free White Fir, which is great. Okay, so again, I tried to make sure my slides would take an hour, And they are over an hour, so I'll make sure to— you'll have all of the slides in the slide deck coming to you.

So we have done it. We have our— I'll just leave the free gift slide up as we say our official goodbyes. We're going to stick around a little bit longer informally just to do our salt inhaler. Okay. Before we go, before we officially end and then go into experiment land, if you could put in an aha moment for you something that stood out from our time together today, or something in Lesson 5, or maybe something in the Natural Living Lab Community from this 6-week series, something that stood out to you.

We'd love to know in the comments what is resonating with you. As I'm putting the final touches on our β-caryophyllene lesson, I'm going back through and doing a lot of edits as I go based on the feedback I hear from different aha moments, different things you're enjoying. So I would love the feedback on different things that are standing out to you so far as we go into our final lesson together, which opens Saturday morning on β-Caryophyllene. So we have one more, one more little question. Oh yeah, that's great. If you can go one more time. How do they get their Cypress and the Hydrosol?

Yes, so how you get the Cypress and the Hydrosol is make sure you're a member of the Natural Living Lab or Natural Living Club. Make sure you're signed into Aromatics with the same email, and when you click the link that we've pinned here, That'll give you your free tool gift for being here live. And then you'll have— make sure you have in your cart. I'll demonstrate it. While you do that, I think I'll go get our supplies. I'll demonstrate it. I'm a visual learner.

And so if I were to hear that, I'm going to hear Charlie Brown's parents again. I have to see it. So let's go over to aromatics.com. And, um, I keep meaning to— maybe what I'll do, Devin, is log into my aromatics.com account because my other account that came up isn't tagged right. So I'm gonna look— I'm gonna go ahead and log in with my Aromatics account really quick and I'll show you how this works. It looks like I am, so I'm going to go to aromatics.com, make sure that I have at least $40 worth in my account.

Well, well, let's do the directions I'm giving you specifically. So I'm going to click the link to get my free tool. That will take me over to my live gift. I'm going to add to cart. Okay, I have stuff in my cart, which is great. So now I can go check out over here, and I should have the opportunity if I am— oh, lemon verbena is sold out, so I'm going to continue to check out here. if I am logged in appropriately, my free gifts will just pop up as long as I have more than $40 in.

There we go, there we go. So I'm going to pop in my Cypress essential oil free gift, add that in. The only reason Lavender is not showing there is because you already have it free in your cart. Oh, and again, the only reason Lavender isn't showing right there is because I already had it in my cart and now it's free. So that's how you get your free gifts. And if I am in the Thriving Aromatherapist Community, I also have every month, our Thrivers get a free gift and our Flower members get a free gift. And so I'm not sure that I'm— my account is tagged right.

It would pop up right here if I am a member of that community, and I could add my free Thrive gift right there because it resets every month at the beginning of the month. And then I just go down and I can make sure I've got all the free gifts I have in here, and that's how you go about placing an order and getting all of the free gifts today. So I hope that was helpful. If you want to register for the course, I'll show you what that looks like over here. This is information on the natural perfumes and emotional— for emotional and physical well-being.

This was a live workshop that Karen taught in December of 2025 that every time she does a workshop, we take that, we make it an on-demand workshop shop, and then we add additional course content into that. So this is where you can see exactly what you're going to learn, what's included, the different supplies, all of the recipes, different profiles on Magnolia Absolute, Saffron Attar, Wild Green Vetiver, Frankincense Serrata, and Wild Apricot Kernel Oil.

It is— if you don't know about these products and how to work with these, aromatically, therapeutically. This is an incredible workshop. So this is not the link you want to get that course. You want a special link that we'll put in. We have shared it in the chat. We have shared it in the chat. I'm also going to put all this information in a post and pin it inside of the Natural Living Club so you're able to click and you can get this course for— I have all of the links except for that one,

but there's a special link that you need To get— here it is right here. And then it will give you the— I'm going to refresh it because I think I opened this yesterday. This is the special link to get 50% off tuition enrollment for until midnight tonight. So. It's a lot of wonderful reviews on, on that course. I know it's a really, really good course. I— it's, it's beautifully done and it's, it's fun to be able to make natural perfumes that actually do a really nice therapeutic and emotional job as well.

And you can continue with Shop, which is, uh, that app will work just fine, Patty. If it doesn't, just email team@aromatics.com for any aromatics question and email team@aromahead.com for any course question. We have 2 different teams. Okay. Okay, so we are officially ending our α-Pinene workshop today. So thank you so much for being here. We're going to stick around and just have a fun experiment.

If you're excited to stick around with us and you would like to see how we're gonna do a salt version of an inhaler, that's been a popular question. I haven't made one yet, and Karen has had experience making them, especially when it comes to a Thai salt inhaler. So we're gonna do some fun experiments here as promised from our Q&A that we did on Monday. Now we're going to have another Q&A this coming Monday with a link in the calendar tab inside of the Natural Living Lab, so please join us if you can. And, um, yeah, we're officially done with our workshop.

Thank you for being here, and if you do want to stick around, um, can you, uh, well, just stick around and we'll be right here. Okay, shall we go on into it? Yeah, we can. So typically we would put But in an inhaler, we would put a cotton or a polyester wick right into our inhaler and cap it. And then you have some little holes in the bottom where you would sniff it and get the respiratory benefits.

So there's this kind of one, and then there's also one that has a little glass bottle It also has little tiny holes in the top, and that you— it goes into a container like this. So the question was, can we put salt in here and use it as a carrier for the essential oils? And the more I've thought about that, the more I've thought— It'll get messy. You absolutely could do it, but you— with these little holes in here, and if you You know, in your purse or in your backpack or whatever, and it starts rolling around, the salt could come out of those top

things. Right. Well, that's what I was kind of thinking about and marinating on from our Q&A too. I was like, I think the salt could, even on the plastic inhaler, it just could come out. And on the plastic inhaler, you can't really see them there, but also I think the salt would get stuck. Yeah. And down here there's some little holes as well. Yep. Well, I don't think I would do it, but I would do salt in either a container like this. I would put salt in here where you just open it and you smell it.

Mm-hmm. Or I would use a little container like this. This is a little 1-ounce salt container. You could put your salt in there. You could keep it if you wanted it. Give it a good sniff. You can get pretty far down in there with a container like this. So I thought we would make one today and then we'll smell it next week just to compare. Okay. So I have some salt here. A couple of things too, since you're sticking around. I love cooking with this salt so much, and I actually have on my list to refill my kitchen at home with our olive oil, which is from Spain, and it is one of the best olive oils in the entire world.

So if you want just my tip on what I'm picking up today, I'm getting salt for my kitchen and I'm getting olive oil because we're almost out of olive oil at my house. The other thing you can do is you can put plant material, dried herbs, in your container. So you could put some dried herbs in here, and I don't think that would come through these little holes. Mm-hmm. So that would, would work. The Thai people, when they have their Thai inhalers that I was talking about, it's more of a bottle like this.

So I'm going to grab an empty bottle, which I saw one over here after Devin went running. After Devin went running. Devin goes running. Devin went all the way to the cold room, which is like a mile away that way. So they use something more like this to put their dried herbs in and then use it and, you know, smell it. So that's what I would suggest if you want to use a different material versus the polyester wick or the organic cotton Now this, to have a little funnel is probably what you'll need, but Jenny, I think, can

probably put that in there and get that— Yes, I can. And I'll— if you could get the small in that one, and I'll put the large one. I was hoping you could get that one in there. Done. This one's a fine grain. I'll listen better. This one is a small grain. The small grain would be perfect In a container that has a wider neck on it.

I've never tried to do this, and why not try live? I would take that, put it in— Well, I tried that. And dry it out. Well, I'm gonna just try this and just see if I have any luck. But you're right, I know you're right. Yeah, the funnel's better, isn't it? We're just gonna make a mess. Yeah, we just need a little funnel for that. And then you just put your essential oil drops in here. So now, would it be the same ratio or would you do more? Well, look at that, we have a cute little funnel over here, but that's just a giant mess.

Yes, so one like this holds about 15 to 20 drops. As you can see, this is a much larger container, so you could put more drops in here, and I would do at least the 15 to 20 drops. Smell it. If it's nice and strong, that's all you need. Well, look at that. That's even— and that's fun. Would you take that all the way? That's the small grain. I would just do maybe half.

I know, because we want plenty of room to shake it around. Yeah, that's fun. Now, why would you do this versus a regular inhaler? I would say more for fun and preference. Some people were just asking about that. And then you just drop your oils in here. Let's see how this works. Let's see how it smells when we do it. Yeah. And we're gonna open it up and smell it next week. This is our— we're just having an experiment. I've never made a salt-based inhaler.

inhaler concept before. I'm putting 8 drops of each in here, and I think that's going to be all that we need. And Dawn, this is our own salt that we have that comes from the Himalayas specifically, and it's just a producer that we really like and appreciate down there. And we have the fine grain Which is smaller than the smaller— small grain, confusingly enough.

So I can tell that there's oils in here. It's a little bit clumpy in there— not clumpy, but you can tell that it's wet. And then for this, you don't have to worry about it spilling or clogging up. I like it a lot. Now I'm gonna— someone asked, why would you put salt in an inhaler? I'm gonna go over to Thrive since we're just experimenting around.

I'm gonna go to— do you mind switching over to computer, Devin? I'm gonna go to and show you in Thymely Aromatherapist, and I'm just gonna ask about salt. Yeah, people were just wondering of different alternatives, how to get an inhaler And I think they were specifically asking if you could put salt in one of our inhalers, if, you know, you didn't want to use the cotton wick or the polyester wick. And I don't think that's a good idea, but I do think that you could, if you wanted an alternative, this would be a good idea.

So I'm here in Thymely, which is Thymely Premium inside of our Thriving Aromatherapist community, and it's just been a game changer for me. just coming up with and being able to quickly and effectively create a lot of the content that we have here in our 6-week series. You're going to see me use an add-on extension called Willow, which I love so much because I've been writing so many comments and doing so much creation that I've started to get tennis elbow. So I've started doing a lot of my work just speaking.

So I'm just going to say, we are on a live event right now. I'm going to make sure it's over here. And we are experimenting with salt as the base for an inhaler recipe. Is there any reason or any information you have around salt inhalers as opposed to just a regular inhaler? I don't know what it will say. Let's see what it says. So any kind of salt could be used, even table salt.

Yeah. Yeah, so your Celtic salt, Himalayan pink salt, your regular table salt. Yeah, we just don't have a lot on salts as a base for inhalers in our curriculum, so. And that's because we haven't written about it. And that's 'cause we haven't written about it. Also, I think, I'm not sure that there's a reason to use salt over just the oils in an inhaler except you can add in Other herbs, and you can do more of the Thai-style inhaler in terms of like other products

that you would want to put in there, other herbs, is my intuition with that. Well, the other thing that you could do, for those of you who had asked about it the other day, is you could put some salt in and some dried herbs in, in here as well. They had little dried sticks in there, In their inhalers, just something that will help absorb the essential oils. All right. I love that. I love that. I know we are doing some sticking around time, and I know this, I just, we can't talk enough about how, what an asset, Thymely wasn't an asset.

That's the only time I've ever seen it not be an asset with salt, but it is an asset on every other level when it comes to aromatherapy. Exactly. Yes. All right, well, are there any other questions before we sign off? We're just sticking around, just having fun. What's the name of extension? I'm not sure. Did you say that? Well, it's Willow. Oh, it's Willow. Yeah, I signed up for a Willow account, and it just means that I can use my global key on my computer and I can just talk, and I've just been talking and talking in that way.

It saves a lot of time. It saves a lot. Karen's been doing it too. Our offices are beside each other, and we're both just talking all day. We try to talk softly. We try to talk softly. So, okay, I think we've got that. Let's go over to, just so you don't miss anything, especially if you're new. Well, Janelle, she does use the sea salt chunks, Himalayan or sea salt chunks, and then the inhaler. Yeah. And they do not fall out. Oh, there you go. So she is using that successfully. That's great. And again, this is what we love about our Q&As and what we love about these events is we're able to get feedback on what you're doing.

We get to have more of a dynamic Discussion and conversation. Here in the classroom section of our Natural Living Lab, I'll show you here. We are here in 8-Pining. When I'm done with this presentation, I'm going to make sure this is the right slide deck since I did a couple of additions. I'll make sure that's the right one that's in there, but this is where you can find your workbooks. Some folks were wanting to print out their lesson-by-lesson content altogether. So that is what the Lesson 5 content workbook or content PDF is, and then I created a workbook to go with each lesson that's just extra activities, extra exercises right there.

And this is where you can find Q&A replays. For example, here in Lesson 4, we have our Lesson 4 Q&A where you can go and link to that right there. I think the Q&As are going to be the only things that won't transfer after the 6 weeks ends, they won't transfer to the Natural Living Club because it's 2 different school groups, but we'll play around with potentially getting a way for you to see those. Okay, well, I think we've done it. All right, well, that was fun. That was fun. If you experiment at all with the inhalers, if you find something works really well for you, please pop it in the school chat.

Yeah, there you go. And I'm gonna create all the information you need. You still have 45 minutes to shop and get all of your— well, you have A week to get your free gifts of the hydrosol and cypress, and then you have another 45 minutes to tack on this free tool, which is just great to have on your workshop. Oh good, other people like sticking around just for fun. And I am, I'm gonna go grab olive oil. I'm out of olive oil, and the producer we use in Spain, it just comes right from their grove.

And just like olive oil, or just like our essential oils, we talk about in the store, a lot of olive oil that you can buy is from different groves all over put into one. And so we love the Spanish olive oil. It goes deeper than that. It doesn't even have to be all cold-pressed, only a certain percentage. So what you're getting, you're not getting what you think you're getting. There's, there's actually quite a story behind olive oil, right? So this olive oil producer, it's, it's a small grove.

He uses 2, and I have it on the description, 2 different olives that blend together super nicely. It's beautiful. There you go. Yeah, so. And yes, Angie, the extra time will be in the replay. I don't think we have a way to— it'll just be here. Okay. In the replay. Okay, well, I think we've done it. Thank you so much, and we'll see you— what is today? Today is Wednesday, so your Be Careoful-ing lesson will open Saturday morning after I do my finishing touches on it and then send it over to Karen for review.

And then we will have our Q&A on Monday for technically α-Pinene, but any question you might have there. We're having so much fun in those Q&As. Those are hot. They're hot. They're hot. We've got great questions coming in, good conversations. We love those Q&As. So if you can make it, that would be great. And then we'll have our next live event on Wednesday. All right, that's a lot. Thank you so much. If you have any questions, feel free to email us either team@aromaticsinternational.com or team@aromahead.com, and we will see you next time.

Bye for now.
