Welcome to MBA school on the basketball IQ podcast. I'm your host, Charlie Lawrence. I'm here to give an educated breakdown on all things NBA
Unknown Speaker 0:33
Welcome back, this is part two of the 2023 24 season finale of the basketball IQ podcast hope you guys enjoyed part one will pick you back up right in the middle of me and Ryan's Guess who game from Episode 14 I went to a college in North Carolina that isn't Duke or UNC. I played with my brother in law for four seasons. And I'm one of few players in NBA history to win a scoring title and a steals title in the same season.
Unknown Speaker 1:08
So from North Carolina
Unknown Speaker 1:11
he's born or raised or he was born in Ohio but raised in North Carolina.
Unknown Speaker 1:17
Was this guy a Gamecock or not? No. So he played a different college so probably a he's a plate of his brother in law. Yeah, guys a super superstar. Yeah. Some guys but of the guys that play with brothers. Yeah, big colleges. I know Drew Holliday he played at UCLA he
Unknown Speaker 1:42
played with I left his detail. He played with his brother in law in the NBA. Oh in the NBA. I wasn't in college.
Unknown Speaker 1:51
I can't I can't say honestly because you guys are from America.
Unknown Speaker 1:54
There's no he's not a brother that's just brother though. It's not a brother in law
Unknown Speaker 2:01
Yeah, I'm failing phrase. So what's the third clue again?
Unknown Speaker 2:05
He's one of the few players in history to win a scoring title and a steel, sidle and the same season
Unknown Speaker 2:13
scoring in steals. So guy that
Unknown Speaker 2:17
season is known as like one of the greatest seasons of all time by individual.
Unknown Speaker 2:22
Not all the guys I'm thinking of them played on the west coast or they're not from a school in North Carolina. Wow. Scoring in steals title and play have his brother in law played in North Carolina.
Unknown Speaker 2:42
While I am this is another guy whose dad played in the league. You might have mentioned him earlier. Not really. Steph Curry. Oh, yeah. God stamp Davidson is in North Carolina.
Unknown Speaker 2:53
I didn't know that. Davis. It was a new Carolina.
Unknown Speaker 2:55
I didn't know that tunes the last night.
Unknown Speaker 2:57
And then Oh my It's Seth Curry. His brother
Unknown Speaker 3:00
in law is Damian Lee. Damion Lee really played on the Warriors he married his sister. So yeah
Unknown Speaker 3:10
yeah, that's crazy.
Unknown Speaker 3:11
It's all it's on basketball reference to brother in law Damian Lee. Wow.
Unknown Speaker 3:17
I did not know that well, that I learn something new every day. That's for sure. But now it's my turn again. Let me find one that I think might be able to stump you a little bit. Right this guy he's from Kentucky. Like you went to school and good luck Yeah, really Kentucky Calipari guy are number one pick of the draft crawling
Unknown Speaker 3:43
through Don't ya? Skull I'm a John Calipari guy. He's my favorite college coach of all time. People might not know on the podcast because I don't really mention or talk about college basketball that much but I'm like a Coach K hater. Really? Yeah. Why do you not like Coach Listen, listen, alright, here's my here's my logic or the guy became what why do you think he wanted to be the Team USA coach because he was offered the job. Because if you're the Team USA coach, you get access to the greatest high school players in the world. So you have like three or four recruiting opportunities. Literally Listen, Julie give on an RJ because the holy
Unknown Speaker 4:29
they give the USA job to the best coach.
Unknown Speaker 4:32
Right now Steve Kerr has?
Unknown Speaker 4:34
Yeah, look at what he did at Golden say they give it to the best code. Listen,
Unknown Speaker 4:39
I just don't I don't know. I don't know. A lot of it also has to do with the fact that my dad was a really big Duke fan. So as a kid, you're like, I want to refer against him. So I was like, Go UNC. Roy Williams is you can't you
Unknown Speaker 4:55
know, I've never heard anyone say I am a Coach K hater. You're the first I've ever heard And probably the last
Unknown Speaker 5:03
I mean yeah he's retired so yeah that's why I told Keith yesterday was like you know the tournament will be as fun because I don't have I don't have Duke to like every everybody that plays Duke I'm rooting for them. Hopefully it'll rain rolls can make are right in the middle again. I think they can they've been really hot lately.
Unknown Speaker 5:24
Absolutely bad YOUR TURN THE alright here
Unknown Speaker 5:27
we go. So this guy, the viewers know this is one of my favorite players I've led the league in assists five times. I'm from the same state as Michael Jordan. And I've worn the same number my entire career.
Unknown Speaker 5:46
So it's a guy I like the most it says five times. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 5:54
Michael Jordan is from North Carolina. So this is another North Carolina guy. God
Unknown Speaker 6:01
and these guys I suppose a superstar Yeah, yeah.
Unknown Speaker 6:04
There was about five the six or seven year window where he was the best point guard in the league.
Unknown Speaker 6:10
I'm gonna say Chris Paul is Chris Paul. Yeah. Hey, Dan.
Unknown Speaker 6:13
I got definitely
Unknown Speaker 6:17
I'll take I'll take the ones I get there, Charlie.
Unknown Speaker 6:21
I'm glad you got the Chris Paul. One.
Unknown Speaker 6:22
I'm happier. Let's see. Let's see what I got here
Unknown Speaker 6:33
okay, I think you'll get this one's funny. I like this fun. All right. All right. You do follow sports gambling at all? Because if you do you know this I do live in the first clue.
Unknown Speaker 6:46
A little bit. Not not as much as some people but they this player
Unknown Speaker 6:48
playing the game come in the fall and exit the game right away.
Unknown Speaker 6:52
Okay, I wouldn't I wouldn't have got that on that. No, no, you just committed a foul and just left Gravelle recently, last year I'm gonna remembering that it was funny.
Unknown Speaker 7:07
First player to commit 10 steals and five blocks in the game since 1973 74 NBA season. And the third one's too obvious. I gotta change it because it just won't give it away. And I feel like I could stump you on this fence deals and
Unknown Speaker 7:22
five blocks in the same year. As a German Yeah. Okay. What was the third clue?
Unknown Speaker 7:30
It was I talked about a warrior's. Oh, yeah, I was like, ah, that would give it away. Yeah. But yeah, um, yeah, if you look away if he like committed the foul and like exit the game. Like all the gambling people, we're all mad about it.
Unknown Speaker 7:48
And left
Unknown Speaker 7:54
leaves Game of Thrones, seven seconds. What is this?
Unknown Speaker 8:01
Gotcha. All the sports books are like, dang it. We had to pay off all these fields. I bet the under the under is all hit.
Unknown Speaker 8:10
Yeah, I remember that. I do. Alright. I think I have two more
Unknown Speaker 8:15
on Yeah, I think I have one more. And I started so that works. Okay. All right.
Unknown Speaker 8:19
All right. Kobe called me a grown man when I was a rookie.
Unknown Speaker 8:27
I've played for the two biggest markets in America. My team is currently battling to stay alive in the east. This team is going through a lot of injuries are now
Unknown Speaker 8:38
should be watching more than so. So they play like they play in the two biggest markets, which means he's played in LA and New York. So guy either played on the Lakers or clippers and he plays in New York. So I mean, yeah,
Unknown Speaker 8:55
he's currently he currently plays in New York.
Unknown Speaker 8:57
I think I got this one. Give me Julius Randle. It
Unknown Speaker 8:59
is Julius Randle very good evening.
Unknown Speaker 9:02
I think I think that one you're like is writing in a viola get that one. But that was one of them. Yeah, but I got not too terrible. They're just pretty good. That's
Unknown Speaker 9:09
pretty good. I mean, not I assume the Kobe grown man thing.
Unknown Speaker 9:13
I think I have like because I remember Julius Randle talking about Kobe. Yeah. And I was like, I think that was Julius Randle Yeah. But yeah, not not too terrible there I'm I'm actually like even though like I'm not very good of NBA stuff. I feel like it did a mediocre to satisfactory job actually
Unknown Speaker 9:34
doing better than me. It's really Anna Decker take
Unknown Speaker 9:42
this video one more.
Unknown Speaker 9:44
Yes, I do have Walmart. So the last one you're definitely gonna get it because you're a big college basketball guy. So, guy played at Duke
Unknown Speaker 9:56
start in the movie. Don't have one Movie star in the movie, okay.
Unknown Speaker 10:02
And every team he says he's gonna stay on. Oh, yeah.
Unknown Speaker 10:09
As soon as I'm not lead star Picard.
Unknown Speaker 10:11
Are you leaving? us like let's round it? Nope. No. Are you are you guys are like I'll Boston they never asked him he's like I sign and I plan the sign extension Nope. And then like everywhere he goes
Unknown Speaker 10:26
he does one more and then we're going to do a weird pivot here on the basketball IQ podcast we're going to transition to other sports. What? What is this? Charlie on the go for IU basketball. All right, this last one if you I'm going to say the first two because the third one is Doug where Eddie Jones is my cousin. Oh, wow. Okay. I was born on a Leap Day. February 29. I
Unknown Speaker 10:55
like it a lot. That helps. Yeah, it is. No, no, no, it does it. Sarcasm. Sarcasm Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 11:01
all right. That sounds good. Um, he has an unorthodox shooting form. Like it looks really weird. I went to Iowa State
Unknown Speaker 11:09
now not now I'm confused because I think of like, unorthodox shooting form I think of like Lonzo ball like Amelie has
Unknown Speaker 11:16
like a little it's like a slow and then it's a quick flick at the rim it's why isn't that has also been in the news a lot. It's very loud guy which is funny that you said loans will
Unknown Speaker 11:30
play but the barbed wire is on the Iowa State right
Unknown Speaker 11:33
right it's not about brother telling you the last clue is a dead giveaway.
Unknown Speaker 11:40
I am I am I want to get the last the city
Unknown Speaker 11:44
I plan hosted the all star game this year. Oh the Pacers
Unknown Speaker 11:49
oh no I went on the Pacers go I kid you know who is it hurts
Unknown Speaker 11:54
me bro. It's Tyrese Halliburton.
Unknown Speaker 11:57
I am much much at all I told you by i mean Isaiah Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 12:05
Well, we perfect segue to move on to football
Unknown Speaker 12:31
I completely ripped it off for him. The first cut that they're English, the first half of the no cuts. We don't edit that on human. The first half of the podcast will be that the other half will be an overall breakdown of the NBA as best and unexpected storylines. So I will start off with the player. It'll just we'll do a nice little warm up. Since it's on here, do you know what school John Stockton went to?
Unknown Speaker 12:57
John Stockton John Stockton boy
Unknown Speaker 13:06
I'm usual quote. I'm human. The school is in my home state. So I didn't grew up in this part of the state but it's still there
Unknown Speaker 13:26
and went to Gonzaga with the desire Yeah. Is the first superstar they went to Gonzaga.
Unknown Speaker 13:32
Live again lads. You know what? I even noticed
Unknown Speaker 13:38

Unknown Speaker 14:26

Unknown Speaker 14:41

Unknown Speaker 14:43

Unknown Speaker 14:50
Get me close. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 14:57
Really close.
Unknown Speaker 15:00
I see UCLA, UCLA he was UCLA. Yeah, Drew Holliday went to UCLA he went to UCLA.
Unknown Speaker 15:06

Unknown Speaker 15:09
you never hear him follow up in a conversation about
Unknown Speaker 15:11
UC is drafted in 2009 he was high school class of all we went to UCLA
Unknown Speaker 15:21
I know you're not gonna notice all
Unknown Speaker 15:23

Unknown Speaker 16:19
Wow, man. You're basketball geek man. So I know you know a lot of information but I had to make it hard for you. Alright
Unknown Speaker 16:25
Danny green Danny green to blue blood
Unknown Speaker 16:41
I know you ain't got to do very close very close
Unknown Speaker 16:53
it was a drag school
Unknown Speaker 16:56
that when I said do and I said very close it's a giant clue whether the school is like two hour driving distance
Unknown Speaker 17:05
from Duke I was gonna say something else but that would be addictive where?
Unknown Speaker 17:13
And I don't know let me see what his thought he was coached by the guy I'm thinking of but I feel like it was
Unknown Speaker 17:27
is it do you think if I gave you a hint of who else went there? That helped a little bit?
Unknown Speaker 17:35
Probably not. It was the conference.
Unknown Speaker 17:36
ACC ACC I think I'm not going to conferences. Let me let me
Unknown Speaker 17:44
Carolina Rosa just said it into the mic. You didn't catch it. Nice. Blue. Yeah, North Carolina. Yeah. It was like when I said dude, because like UNC is like two hours away. Very close. All right. Oh, his Twitter is Instagram was Green Ranger 14. That's gonna point that
Unknown Speaker 18:21
was a good one. Well, when we were when we wasn't just talking about Yeah, yeah. Demarcus Cousins.
Unknown Speaker 18:32
I'm a California guy. California. Kentucky boy, he played with John Walter. Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 18:40
at the same time talking about on the podcast. That's what he talked about Kalambaka that was talking about them like they final game at Kentucky.
Unknown Speaker 18:48
Did they win the national championship? Nobody lost. Because
Unknown Speaker 18:51
they feed DeMarcus Cousins. That's why they lost that's why they got they got sucked out by Joe Missoula. Joe Mizzou. Boston Celtics coach played against him. And March Madness.
Unknown Speaker 19:04
Oh my god. You did? Is he really that young? I have a My best friend is a Celtic fan. He's going to grow me for this. And how old is he? He's 35.
Unknown Speaker 19:15
So you would have been what 21? I just looked at his birth year are you think of a hit you with like so far? You're one for three. You got Danny green but not drought. And it's kind of
Unknown Speaker 19:32
you know I'm an orthodox. Okay, a little Kirk. Can you tell me what high school LeBron would say? All right. Okay, I'll do I'll do two since that was a layup.
Unknown Speaker 19:49
Fit to pursue. Chris Paul Crispo. Producers of another North Carolina School I think there's another legendary Hall of Famer that went to the school to
Unknown Speaker 20:11
yeah
Unknown Speaker 20:15
only schools in North Carolina there's a lot of there's
Unknown Speaker 20:18
Duke UNC Davidson where stuff went and then there's this one like the four major league
Unknown Speaker 20:30
baseball Tim Duncan also went here everyone knows crazy is what
Unknown Speaker 20:36
I used to be a major Chris ball
Unknown Speaker 20:37
I know I remember on the last last time we talked
Unknown Speaker 20:42
and the fact that don't notice as
Unknown Speaker 20:47
crazy and raise let me give you the initials of the school aid manager WF wait for Yeah. All right. I'll give you that one your 3345 I'll give you that one. You know Christopher Emanuel Paul, you know you know him and JJ Redick had beef in college for Yeah Chris Paul there's like a clip of him like punching JJ on the screen
Unknown Speaker 21:20
Chris is a wild boy bro balls
Unknown Speaker 21:29
waters in the look markeith gave me
Unknown Speaker 21:35
let's see. Let's see. Let's see.
Unknown Speaker 21:39
If you gave me like a super old ad I might I might not get it. Or maybe DeAngelo Russell I will say I wait. I first second. I thought I was thinking la school but I was like wait, hold on. Hold on. Now you know one of them
Unknown Speaker 22:07
you said DeAngelo Russell, how do you own DEVIN BOOKER went to school. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The ducky here. Okay. commented it out. Kentucky here Willie Cauley
Unknown Speaker 22:19
Stein probably Kentucky
Unknown Speaker 22:23
Yeah, Fox definitely came out about
Unknown Speaker 22:28
one thing Thank you. Jesus che got the whole story. name like tapped into the Navy.
Unknown Speaker 22:39
All right. We gotta get a roleplay All right. One of our very own Austin Reeves Oklahoma State now you want the regular column dealing with bonus points Can you name the other college you went to you went to I just learned this as I'm looking I'm I don't I only thought he went to Oklahoma to but apparently went to another
Unknown Speaker 23:01
heat transfer.
Unknown Speaker 23:02
Was it good to go no, no, no, this is a D one school apparently RON BAKER went here
Unknown Speaker 23:11
let's state is
Unknown Speaker 23:12
Kansas as I'm not gonna get it Yes. Apparently went to Wichita State first and then transferred Oklahoma. Have you ever heard him talk like on a podcast? He's like one of the whitest white guys I've ever heard. Big.
Unknown Speaker 23:32
Yeah to talk a little bit he talks about golf like constantly Yes. I know offseason he had like girls bear it out. Like I made and I looked like a Hooper.
Unknown Speaker 23:47
He looked like a country club member. It was like I love that guy though. Love Austin. I'm gonna get a jersey one. My white Hooper seems we got a
Unknown Speaker 24:06
Damian Lillard? Wieber state. In Utah.
Unknown Speaker 24:12
That was an easy one. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 24:15
Sorry. All right. You want to just do we have two minutes left? You want to just rattle off some and then I'll just name them all since I'm like, six or six right now. We Jordan in this mode.
Unknown Speaker 24:29
Are you doing? Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 24:32
Join? Yeah. Oh, this is the most relaxed podcast episode ever. By the way. It's gonna point out normally I'm getting intense at this point. This is like
Unknown Speaker 24:50
Gerrish.
Unknown Speaker 24:52
You didn't go to college. St. Benedict's prep school.
Unknown Speaker 24:57
Yeah. Is the
Unknown Speaker 25:00
Jordan of this book? Come on? You know he didn't go to no guy he probably I think I saw he would have went to like St. John's or some some in New York
Unknown Speaker 25:09
College now though. Yeah
Unknown Speaker 25:16
What? What was what's cool is that the heat was at Texas a&m. Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 25:21
like off where you put yeah okay all right
Unknown Speaker 25:31
Josh Hart Villanova he's a New York knick you know, he went to Villanova. You know, you know, remember Did you hear what Matthew said yesterday and marketing? Well, he was like, because I asked I was like, if you were good enough to go to the league, what college would you go to? And I and I said Kentucky, just because I know I'm going to leave bro. And then Matthew said Villanova because he's gonna get drafted by the Knicks the GM is gonna be like, no guy.
Unknown Speaker 26:01
I'm not playing for time. Now the plan 48 minutes. There
Unknown Speaker 26:05
you go. So in this sold in this hypothetical scenario, like a five star, like you're the guy so you're not are you going to do or are you going the route of like being like, play with James Wiseman did when he went to Memphis he's like, I'm gonna be the superstar here.
Unknown Speaker 26:27
Honestly I want to compete in March Madness for
Unknown Speaker 26:33
Oh, so you want to compete more him? Yeah. So that would probably been sent out. Probably go
Unknown Speaker 26:38
to school. Yeah, I probably go to like UNC, Arizona,
Unknown Speaker 26:44
Unc. Okay, Arizona respectively follow the footsteps of Gilbert Arenas. Another great shooter. Now on to the next segment. I'm a little late on this. But since I've been not necessarily covering the NBA as a whole. For the better part of a month. I want to address the Whedon with the 90s trend on Tik Tok, and on other social media platforms. Now the trend surfaced a couple I think it was a couple weeks ago might have been three or four weeks ago. And I forgot the guy's name, I wish I would say because I want to put him on blast. But he came out with these clips of Michael Jordan not being able to go left and slick and the other guys I think Larry Bird was another clip. Even though Larry Bird mainly played in the 80s. Of mostly it was clips of guys in the 90s not having a lot of skill, or as much skill as today. And then there was a guy in the back army, like we deal with the 90s we deal with the 90s. So if you are a listener of the pod, a loyal listener, you will know that I've built a a quote unquote brand off respecting basketball history. I've made and I've done entire segments about history. On my blog, I have a category called the history lesson. I've in this is in my everyday life, it matters to me. So it's on brand for me to not like it. So I'm not going to like it. My main issue with this whole we done with the 90s thing is to act like and a lot of it is a troll. But to act like modern NBA players don't do stupid shit. Is just ignorant. Have you ever heard of Shaq than a fool? Have you ever, ever heard of it? It's pretty popular. Shut to the moon.
Unknown Speaker 29:14
And like I said, I know it's probably a troll. But if it isn't if the guy that makes these trends, or make the trend of the guy that makes these videos and the people that actually believe that. Here's what I will say about different eras in basketball, right? I will never I'm not the type of person that will ever come out with an actual top 10 players list because I just don't believe that. And quite frankly, I think it's ignorant. To compare players from the 60s in the 2000s and compare them against each other. I just don't I don't think it's it so smart, I don't think it's truly appreciating the sport of basketball well enough. And I might sound like a boring Oh, well, I actually take. But it's, it's just accurate. And it's something and when I was thinking about this last night, when preparing for the pod, I thought to myself, I was like what other industry other than sports? Do we constantly compare eras? And say, who's the greatest of all time of this without any context? Because that's what we do with basketball and baseball, and football. nub. Basketball probably has the most intense goat debate because it's the closest, like in baseball. There's a goat debate, but it isn't as big because of the difference between but even that in baseball, football fans, they understand that there's a difference in debating between Lawrence Taylor and Tom Brady. There's a big difference. You know what the differences they play different sides of the ball. Same thing when we talk about the good debate in baseball, it's like some people have pictures on there. Some people have hitters it's mostly batters. But you can't really compare them because they play two completely different positions. It's the same thing in basketball, Michael Jordan's skill set. And what he had to do on a daily basis on a basketball court is not the complete opposite. But it's very different than what LeBron had to do. Obviously, someone who was born in my era, is going to say LeBron is the greatest basketball player of all time. But the only reason I say that is because he's the greatest that I've seen. In my era. It's LeBron. It's Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry. That's the big three. It's like k dot arbery. And Jay Cole, that that's my era of rap. And that's my era of basketball. is so wide, why isn't discourses look at who's the greatest in their era? Because that would create the most dynamic and interesting and in depth conversation about the game. Like why don't we go back and talk about like, if we want to do the Bill Russell wilt thing? Like okay, compare those guys. But even comparing them is kind of dumb, because we'll even though his teammates I think are downplayed in the context of history. I think he had really good teammates. I just don't think that they're viewed like Bill Russell's because Bill Russell team's always won. Like you can't tell me that Bill Russell had nine actual like all star level guys, you can't tell me that. Because I think back then a lot of it had to do with winning and winning, if you ever seen one that those guys made the all star game because they really didn't have much else to go off of. Because a lot of the other guys to be honest with you, we're on a level playing field outside of the top guys. So what I just did there why can't we all do that? That what I just did there is just simple. If you just know what you're talking about. I just Bill Wilson boom. Back to my original point. As I go on that ramble there. We don't do this in any other industry. And I'm a movie nerd. We don't do this. We don't compare Gone With the Wind. With Oppenheimer. We just don't you know why? Because gone with Gone With the Wind was made in the 1940s and Oppenheimer came out last year. So anyone with a brain understands, oh, the production was a little different. They probably have more money to make Oppenheimer. Okay. The special effects are better. But you know why Gone With the Wind is always in top five movies of all time, because it's ranked within the context of when it came out. When Gone with the wind came out in the 1930s or 19 for 1939. When Gone with the wind came out in 1939. It was a state of the art one of the greatest movies of all time. Do we compare that to the Godfather, which came out 40 years later, or 30 years later, we don't. In the Godfather, which was made in the 70s. And my favorite movie of all time, is considered by most people to be one of the greatest movies of all time. But when I hear cinema geek discourse, which I do listen to, what one of the first things that's constantly brought up, is Wow, the production for the time was incredible. While the way that the costume looks, or the mustache or for the jacket, that Fredo war in that scene at the mansion and Godfather Part Two, and the lighting that went into that those people constantly talk about for the time, they always add that little caveat. For the time this is amazing. Why can't we do that with basketball? Why can't the discourse be Wow, for the time Oscar Robertson was going incredible.
Unknown Speaker 36:21
Why can't we do that? And this goes for the same thing with technology. We don't compare a fucking pager to the iPhone 15.
Unknown Speaker 36:35
Because we under we don't like it. Oh, man. I don't know, man. That pager is the greatest phone of all time. We don't do that. We don't say we don't go to I don't know. A lot of people don't go to Best Buy anymore. But I used to go as a kid. We don't go to Best Buy and be like, Oh, look at that Mac from the 80s that my mom used. And then look at the super computers that can handle 70,000 Video games at home. We don't compare those two. Like I don't know, man. I just don't I don't understand. I mean, I get why I understand why there is a discourse but I hate the reason why there is a discourse and like the all the examples that I gave there's always a caveat. And I feel like with basketball next time you watch any Horwood classic game, or you know any like I just watched earlier this morning, I was watching a 1970s finals game it was it was Sonics bullets from 1979. I was just watching that this morning. And I was able to appreciate what Dennis Johnson, Gus Johnson, Jack Sikma and all the guys in the old Sonics teams, I was able to appreciate what they were doing for their era. So the next time if you do ever next time you watch a hardwood classic game. Try to appreciate what they can do. Instead of trying to see if they can guard rockets James Harden because similar to the movie industry a movie like The Godfather would get relentlessly ridiculed for having cheesy effects. And, and the lighting camerawork would be weird if that was made today. It just would. And I fucking love that movie with all my heart. So just appreciate what's in front of you, and appreciate what's behind you. Because to be honest with you, those greats are what paved the way for us to be able to talk about it today. So just love everybody. Honestly. Speaking to the Lakers the rematch of the conference finals last year in the first let me say this. Okay, maybe I should have saved this for last but we're just gonna do it now. Lakers
Unknown Speaker 39:42
in six. Oh, wow. Okay. All right. And now Lakers and six. All right. Make Your Case. Denver. A taking game. Ah. Okay,
Unknown Speaker 39:52
that's the home game the crowd No. Going back to back. All right, sir. One, two and three. Okay, we're gonna take for game five in number. We're winning game five and number
Unknown Speaker 40:08
two, okay, we're gonna win. We're gonna win one and never. If we don't sell him leave us hard. We'll use them. We're gonna win
Unknown Speaker 40:15
two games and number. Game Two and game five. So
Unknown Speaker 40:22
and then, for sakes without being in LA, easy money, we just can't lose that. Oh, dear.
Unknown Speaker 40:31
I can't say I had the same optimism but yeah, it's awesome. It's great. I know no one cares what Denver went through and oh against us the regular season. No, nobody here no one cares about that. The Bulls used to beat the heat in the regular season. It didn't matter but this is different. You would you like to think of the would you like to take a guess i when the last time we beat Denver in any basketball game that had two hoops? Probably. 2020 we had Russell Westbrook last time we beat the
Unknown Speaker 41:07
pirate every day. Yeah, was that the game? He talked already? Yeah. Oh, that was not Rudy who was Suge Knight don't know Rudy. Rudy is not on the nuggets little um, notice that I'm thinking about the brain because like
Unknown Speaker 41:26
I said I said yeah, it was a guy remember you don't have to wait.
Unknown Speaker 41:30
I was thinking about a flash value that I was Massey knows
Unknown Speaker 41:33
was a crazy dog but no.
Unknown Speaker 41:38
But ya know
Unknown Speaker 41:40
what? As this was covered a lot during the series, I feel like despite the sweep last year in the playoffs, Denver's margin of victory was just eight points per game. And game four was my two which is painful because LeBron had like 30 in the first half
Unknown Speaker 42:01
I felt like if I get in that last game get a ball abroad I'm gonna pay I don't think that was the right play call. I think most of them games we lost to like strategically like tobaccos
Unknown Speaker 42:16
Michael Malone is objectively better than Darvin Hammond every
Unknown Speaker 42:19
Yes yes. You know when a call the timeout making a judgment Yeah, I remember we went all like we made like three shots in a row. The only one up till you call a timeout?
Unknown Speaker 42:30
Yeah. Is that the most important outside of like being a good people person? Because is that the most important skill being an NBA head coach because I feel like it is. Yeah, having a good feel for the game is like number one. Yes, you got to know when to call timeouts when to pull people out when to sub. That's like no matter the lower power level about halfway through the first quarter when he has 10 points. Do not do that. Many times. I've seen that this year and one of the chuck might let's not I know he wants to I don't care what you want, bro. Do you have 10 points right now? Play. From the research I did this series will be about dominating the pain is both teams love rim running. They love the nuggets. Were the only team with a winning record. While being beaten in the three point battle. They went 18 and 15 when they lost the three point battle, and the Lakers have the most wins while losing
Unknown Speaker 43:31
that battle. So
Unknown Speaker 43:35
it doesn't matter how many threes. We are paying for a pain mashing team.
Unknown Speaker 43:41
I mean, another big key thing for success in this theory is ad like we need ad to be ad we need 20 Plus every day. I don't need to go anywhere. Yes, I want 30 Satake anatomy lesson.
Unknown Speaker 43:56
I want 30 and 15
Unknown Speaker 43:57
we see what he did last last time. Oh god yeah, games we dropped 14.
Unknown Speaker 44:02
I feel like he had one game right like 40 though. Yeah, he did. He did some ad. That's what that is. One game where he has 14 points and I think the next 1420
Unknown Speaker 44:12
But that ain't gonna be better defensively his yoke is man because he always put up the triple W A gay. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 44:19
We're gonna I'm gonna look up the stats right now because I need to see this. So game one. I know we're spending the most time in the Laker series. But we're Laker fans, so deal with it. Oh my god. Oh my gosh. Game 180 at 40 and 10. That's what I was thinking of. Game Two, he had 1814 Game three. He had a go ahead. Game three he had 28 and 18 and then game for E 21 and 14. So only had one game because to me he literally went from he went Good Game and Game Good Game and Game it alternated
Unknown Speaker 45:09
perfectly yeah there's like some solid games you know? I think big is the biggest thing is defense. The ad is a great shot blocker time and a ball are you planning his yoke? Is he so wide and then like he uses his wideness and like the baby has floated since from the soft touch like every time you shoot a floor do you think is going in?
Unknown Speaker 45:35
No. Sometimes when I shoot before I think it's the past to the Dunker lead to Aaron Gordon
Unknown Speaker 45:42
is flown on net.
Unknown Speaker 45:46
And one aspect of the series that I don't think people are talking about is how much Jamal Murray owns us more than yoke he does. You know what his shooting splits were last year in that series 5341 9595 4090
Unknown Speaker 45:58
Man cooked and then he made some tough shots. You make it tough shots. There's
Unknown Speaker 46:09
the famous Yoker trimmer he's like the one legged falling
Unknown Speaker 46:15
shots breaking my heart greatly once they get going now step back.
Unknown Speaker 46:23
My brain says bang on man it's like how I felt with Steph Curry for four years I was a great defense I'm used to it I'm scarred the John Schuhmann says nuggets and Forgan
Unknown Speaker 46:41
at this don't think he likes the Lakers. That's what I think.
Unknown Speaker 46:44
I think it's it's I think it's really funny to pick on us. I can see it because I do it too. Sometimes it is funny. It is funny. When people forget this. It makes good content.
Unknown Speaker 46:57
LeBron is the greatest turnaround player ever, bro. I think a lot of this before work when Yes, yeah. Heat loss as a golden state came back the next year. Dominated Yeah. And now ad is healthy. Now the team has been together for a long time. So now they got their chemistry. So he's not alone.
Unknown Speaker 47:24
Yeah, I feel like that team last year was like together for like 30 games. And because of where we came with the trade deadline. vandal came with the trade deadline. Deal. I think that to see a trade deadline. I
Unknown Speaker 47:41
feel like it was reasonable rules before the trade deadline.
Unknown Speaker 47:43
I really was like the pre trade deadline. Yeah, we got him for what it was like to second round was like Okay, thank
Unknown Speaker 47:51
you. They we made the we made the big tray got Vasco De lo
Unknown Speaker 47:56
Yeah, that was the I think that was the rush trade right? Yeah, it was the restaurant. Yeah. Okay. Appreciate it. Ross.
Unknown Speaker 48:03
And then we start we start fire Ohio cylinders. But you know, once you get to like the playoffs and you like the carried over to the playoffs, it carried over to the playoffs. But once you face like we face we face the Memphis Memphis they went great. And then we played the Warriors play the Warriors. They're not the same. Yeah, we play the freshly Denver team. Now they was hungry. Yeah, they they was was ready for that time. Not not think we like the experience playing against Denver and all those other things like LeBron had the experience playing guest wars for the first time to lose and I think that that plays a part to like, Oh, I know what you're doing. I know your game within a break. Yeah. Yeah, that's it. That's gonna be huge.
Unknown Speaker 48:46
Before we get into the next series, I'll make my prediction. I say I don't want to be a fake Laker fan. But I'll say No, I don't want to keep saying six because I've said six twice. No, I said imagine five so
Unknown Speaker 49:12
nuggets of five
Unknown Speaker 49:13
nuggets in five. I can't this is this is
Unknown Speaker 49:20
realistic. Like
Unknown Speaker 49:23
he said LeBron is losing five games to the same team in the next year can't alright. Gonna see about this first game Saturday 530.
Unknown Speaker 49:39
Every reminder on my phone
Unknown Speaker 49:46
