Show Notes

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas A. Edison
I just want to remind you. There's no shortcut. There's no easy button. There's no trick. There's no looking at somebody else and asking "How do they do it?" that I don't know. Well, you may not know it, but it's not a secret.

Any basic search engine, any book you read, listen to enough podcasts, you go to enough events. You'll learn it.

The secret of business success, and a lot of. It's just hard work. A lot of it is a learning as you go along and improvising, but the core tenants to business, as I talked to those of you who are trying to grow solo businesses, the smallest of small business owners is really simple.

On today's episode I talk all about the 5 basic tenants to make any business a success.  Hope you enjoy!

What is The Do What Is Necessary Podcast?

Let's be honest: building a company from nothing is incredibly hard. It has been for me. I started my entrepreneurial journey at age 8. Yep, you read that right....8! Since then, I've started, run and sold multiple businesses with no partners and no funding. All my life I've had to build something from nothing, and that's what I've gotten really great at - tenacious, creative and extremely smart strategy coupled with hard work. Welcome to The Do What Is Necessary podcast—I’m your host, Andrew Moon.

Listen in as I share all the mistakes I’ve made and, more importantly, what I’ve learned from them, with no fluff, and no rose-colored glasses. The Do What Is Necessary Podcast is a show where we cut through the toxic hustle and grind mindset and dig into what it actually takes to start and grow a “calm business”. Calm is family first. Calm is more independence. Calm is sustainable practices for the long term. Calm is joyful. Running a calm company is a choice.

I’ll be giving unfiltered advice every week, 10 minutes per episode each. I want you to walk away from this podcast with the mindset and tools you need to be successful.

This podcast is for entrepreneurs, side hustlers, and busy professionals with a short attention span (like me)—you’ll get quick-hitting, actionable information in every single episode. If you give me your time, I promise it won't be wasted. Now let's get to work!

As I hit the record button on
this episode, we're coming up on

halfway through yet another year.

Today's podcast is going to be a little
bit raw, a little bit hype in there.

Because I think that we could
all use a, a jolt of motivation

right now we could use a jolt.

Of something positive for a change.

This podcast episode.

I just want to remind you.

If you're an entrepreneur, a solo
preneur, a one man band, nimble business,

whatever you want to call yourself.

There is no shortcut.

There is no easy button.

There's no trick.

There's no looking at somebody else
and asking, Hey, how do they do that?

Well, you may not know how they do
that, but it's really not a secret.

And he basic search engine.

You Google it.

Any book you listen to, and if
you listen to enough podcasts,

you go to events you learn.

What that secret is.

The secret of business
success and a lot of it.

Is just hard work.

Yep.

You got it.

It's just a lot of hard work.

A lot of it is learning as
you go along and improvising.

We don't have it all figured out.

But the core tenants of business,
as I talked to those of you who are

trying to grow solo businesses, those
entrepreneurs who may be in business

for the first time, or you may be a
long time, small business owner and.

Let's just face it last couple
of years have been nothing

but a raging dumpster fire.

But the core tenants of
business are pretty simple.

You've got a customer out there that's
looking for a solution to their problem.

Or that.

They don't know, they have a problem.

They have a headache.

Maybe they need medicine.

They want to look fashionable.

They might need clothes.

Their kids are crying now and wondering.

Hey, what are we going to do?

We're bored out of our
skull because school's out.

They need to go to an amusement park
or come to your daycare nursery.

Or whatever that problem may be.

They're home might need repairs and
you might have contracting services.

There's a customer out there that
you have a solution to their problem.

It doesn't always have
to be their problems.

It doesn't always have
to be something of pain.

But there is a problem.

That they have, and you have a
solution that's your job is to

understand who that customer is.

That's 0.2.

they have a problem.

You have a solution.

We need to understand who they are.

That's 0.2.

Point three is where are they at?

Point for how can we find them
and make them aware of who we

are that we're out here, that we
have a solution to their problem.

Uh, 0.5.

One of the hardest ones for us is.

Do you have the messaging, the copy,
whatever you want to call that, whatever

you have to say, that you communicate to
them, that you're great at what you do and

that you are the best option for them to
solve their problem and reach their goals.

And part of that
communication is your pricing.

Maybe your pricing is
premium and that's not bad.

Maybe you're charging that premium
price, because you know that that

customer wants a premium price.

And because they want the best service.

That money can buy.

Well, maybe you're running a numbers
game and you just want to be the

cheapest price out there, and
there's nothing wrong with that.

Whatever.

The your pricing is
whether that's premium.

Or the cheapest price out there.

Play the game.

Play the game and be good at it.

But that's the point of business.

There's no secret.

There's no magic.

Easy button out there.

That's pretty much what it is.

And you do that over and
over and over and over again.

And the other big secret that
I'm doing right now, I'm no

different than anybody else.

I'm doing followup.

This podcast is following up.

With people who need.

A solution solved in their business.

Now, since I've been doing this
for a long time, have been an

entrepreneur since I was eight.

I pretty much know now with
this particular business.

Who my customers are, where are they at?

I have the answers to those questions.

And I can reach them.

And I've reached out over the last few
weeks to dozens of entrepreneurs and

content creators and solo preneurs.

And I've been asking them.

What are you working on?

How can I serve you?

What are you stuck on right now that
I might be able to help you with.

They're going to spend the money on
some solution to solve their problem.

Which helps them get what they want.

It helps them get where they want to go.

I just want to make sure
that I'm in the conversation.

I want to make sure
that they know who I am.

I can do it.

I can help them solve their problem.

And I have the chance to serve
them as I'm reaching out.

I'm doing that.

Follow-up.

That's what I do as for a living as
a speaker and a content producer,

working with entrepreneurs,
solopreneurs, nimble businesses.

To help them reach their
goals in life and business.

I'm in the same game that you are.

Well, maybe you're an it
service professional out there.

Wondering how do you get your
next one, two or three clients?

Maybe you are a fitness
professional out there.

Wondering how do I get more clients?

Maybe you're in the legal industry.

Maybe you're in the real estate industry.

Maybe you're in some type of other
professional services out there, and

maybe you help people create books.

Whatever it is, maybe you're
a marketer or a web designer.

One of the many great
small businesses out there.

That's you.

The game is the same for all of us.

Who's you're customer.

What's their problem.

Where are they at?

How can you find them?

And how can you get the messaging
to them to let them know that

you are the choice for them?

And once that's done, once that's done.

Are you giving them the great experience
that they're paying for that they're

so excited about what you're able to
do for them, that they want to work

with you over and over and over again.

And they're so excited.

That they want to refer
other people to you.

That's the simplicity of business.

There's nothing more than that.

Nothing simpler.

That's it.

If you do that.

You will build a thriving business.

That's business.

That is the game of business.

That's it.

Should you get a team when you're ready?

Yes, you should.

Should you get an executive assistant
or a virtual admin admin, or an

operations manager to help you scale
to the point where you want to go.

Yes, you should.

Should you have systems and
process in your small business?

That can help you do the things you
do and repeat them over and over and

over again and get the same results.

Yes, you should.

Should you delegate to people?

Yes.

Should you remove yourself out of
the many things in your business?

So that you can focus on the one
or two things that you do best.

Yes, you should.

But there is no easy button.

There's no way to cheat the system.

That's it.

And I shared this message with
you today, not to depress you.

But to inspire you, to motivate
you, to put in the time and

effort to do the work, to get the
life that you want to be living.

Now, especially as I do this, this
podcast in the middle of the year.

And most of us here in the United States
are getting ready to take a break.

And I think that is a
well-deserved break in you.

You deserve that.

But learn to enjoy the hard work.

So that you earn the right
to enjoy delivering those

services to your customers.

Because if you're an it provider, I
bet you don't like sending invoices.

I bet you don't like paying taxes
that you don't like hiring people.

I bet you don't like a lot of the
nitty gritty part of business.

But in order to do what you, like,
you got to love to do the things

sometimes that you don't like.

Or delegate those things
that you don't like.

This is business.

And if you're missing any of these
parts that I talked about today,

Maybe that's why your business isn't
taking you where you want to go.

If you don't know who your customers
are, if you don't know where they are,

if you don't know how to reach them.

If you're not delivering
a great message to them.

Game's over.

Game's over.

And if you're not delivering that service
so well that they want to buy from you

over and over and over again, they want
to refer you to people, every person

that every single person that they know.

And that they remember you.

Game's over.

That's the art of business.

And yes, part of it is networking.

Part of it is relationships.

Part of it is keeping
your, the word out there.

Part of it is developing
those new relationships.

Yes.

Part of it though, is
what's between our ears.

It's our mindset, but there's a lot of
complications that we sometimes throw into

a business and make it more difficult.

But if you get the simple part, right?

The things we talked about today,
Your business can and will grow.

That's it.

There's no easy button.

There's no easy button.

It's just the work.

If you're listening to this
podcast, please let me know.

And again, the, okay.

The railroad's session is over.

If you're getting ready
to take a vacation.

Enjoy it.

But for those of us who were, maybe have
taken our vacation for the year already.

Let's get back to work.

Enjoy it.

Enjoy the hard work, enjoy
where a business can take us.

Until next time always be humble and
kind and always do what is necessary
