It took a minute,

now it didn't happen right away.

When it get hot in the kitchen,

you decide to stay.

That's how it win us, man.

What's going on, everybody?

Welcome to the Clydesdale

Media Podcast live from the

Renaissance in Albany, New York.

And here comes Alison Scuds.

And there she is.

Let's bring her in.

Can you hear me?

Yep.

I can.

Okay.

I don't think the microphone is hooked up.

I have it plugged in.

And then I pushed the power button,

but nothing happened.

Did you hold it in?

Does it have a light on it?

It does.

I'm not seeing it do

anything when I hold it.

Let me try the other one.

Okay.

Can I wear my AirPods and

this at the same time?

Yes.

You already sound better

tonight than you did last night.

Oh, okay.

That's good.

So maybe it is Ricky.

Yeah, we are live.

Oh, I'm sorry.

You're fine.

Sorry guys.

It's all good.

It sounds good.

Then if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

So we're just.

Yeah.

So, um, we're here live in Albany.

Uh,

Allie and I are here in Albany.

Yeah, what's her name?

Jamie.

She's in Michigan,

leaving us high and dry.

But we're making it work somehow.

But, yeah, we're hanging out here,

having a good time.

It was a wild,

wild day at the CrossFit Games.

But before we get into all

the action on the floor,

the day started with a twist.

Dave Castro came out and

added some run to event four.

He added one other lap or

one other length of the

floor on the handstand walk.

Felt it was a little

underwhelming for a big twist.

Yeah.

Well, yeah, it was a little underwhelming.

Was it not originally said

that that was three hundred

feet of running?

No.

I swear that Isabel is two hundred feet.

Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

I don't know.

Right?

Never did I hear it feet?

No.

I don't know.

Definitely not because they

released the behind the

scenes video and there were

like on the runner so you

couldn't even do three

hundred feet on the runner.

So if they did, it was a typo.

But I think it was always

three hundred meters.

I mean that makes more sense

I just I swear I read the

feet and yeah lex this one

was always three hundred

meters yeah four hundred

makes more sense but I mean

either uh jeremy eats world

scuds did castro hint at

adding the distance when you tested

Um, not really.

I know that Rafa tested was

doing four hundred meters

on his first couple rounds

and mid workout.

He changed it to three

hundred for him because I

think he was taking longer.

So I was interested because like my runs,

I mean,

I'm not I'm definitely not the

best runner,

but my runs were very slow at the ranch.

I still did it on the

woodway like they did at the games.

But I was wondering if

maybe that one was kind of

like the air runner issue

where his was calibrated

like to an old system and

then when they got the new

ones at the games they

tested the the distance

again and maybe they were

quicker that was kind of

like the only thing that I

was like maybe that

happened it's total

speculation like I have no

insider info on that but

That was kind of what my

assumption was because to my knowledge,

they had already tested it

a few times when I test it

and they were pretty

certain on the three

hundred meter distance.

And my time was like twenty five, I think,

or twenty four or twenty five, I believe.

So it wasn't super fast.

And that was doing but I was

I did I tested it to forty five.

So I tested it much heavier.

which definitely had an

impact on the whole workout,

just because it's a lot,

you have to brace a lot harder.

You have to break it up more, um,

gets the heart rate a lot higher.

So, um,

but I did know about the final

fifty feet at the end,

just because that was just

a layout thing because

every round they were going

down and back to the

treadmill and then they wanted to finish.

They didn't want them to go

down and back and then have

to turn around and run.

So I did test it with the

full handstand walk length.

So I did a hundred and fifty

on my last lap as well.

There's a lot more in the

chat about the stuff that

happened on the floor.

Again,

we're going to get to that in a second.

A couple of things around the games.

People asked yesterday about the crowds.

I will tell you, under Village,

the line was completely

wrapped around the building

to get under Village today.

Vendors who were very happy

with how things were going as well.

I actually heard that

vendors didn't bring as

much this year after what

happened last year,

and they are running out of

stock because they are much

more crowded than they anticipated.

I've been there too.

Like they have,

I don't know if you saw Scott,

but like on the ceiling,

they have like these cool

like studio lights and it

actually like spells out

CrossFit kind of subtly.

And it was a good vibe in there for sure.

Yeah, it was, I love where it was at.

It was, I mean, one,

it's air conditioned unlike

Wisconsin when you're in a barn.

Everybody kind of brought

their best foot forward.

And I will say it's the best

layout the CrossFit retail

store has ever put up.

You got to get some footage in there.

So I did take some pictures

of the shirts that we

talked about last night.

Yeah.

Cause they're not on the store yet.

Like we can't see them on our end.

So let me pull those up.

Okay.

Um, just like,

it was bummed out to hear

that it wasn't completely connected,

but it's, it's not that far of a walk.

Like,

it felt kind of like,

whereas last year it felt like very far.

And maybe that was cause it

was so hot and whatnot, but it definitely,

even though it wasn't

technically the same building,

it does feel like a more

cohesive experience.

Okay.

Well, this sucks.

Um, I cannot blow it up.

Oh,

Hold on.

Let me try to share this another way.

So I can at least show Pukie.

Sort of worried that this is

like games exclusive merch.

I mean,

I guess depending on what they have left.

Because it's not on their website.

Yeah.

Get you something.

Okay.

Come on.

There we go.

So there's the Pukie shirt.

Oh, is that what Bryson had on?

Yeah.

Yeah.

So that is out,

and you see it's got the

full CrossFit logo on it.

Now,

I think they've brought back Forging

Elite Fitness.

That's a flag that you can buy.

Nice.

And it does not say twenty twenty five.

Yeah.

CrossFit Games on it.

This is a CrossFit shirt

with like the metal lettering,

which I thought was kind of

cool and different.

Yep.

Here is, uh,

eat meat and veggies CrossFit.

Oh, that's cute.

That's cool.

Uh, here, here's a shirt.

Yeah.

That's like a new version of it.

Games, twenty,

twenty five CrossFit forging

elite fitness.

And the old routine is the enemy.

Yeah.

So they're,

they're bringing out all the old hits.

Well, hopefully they go online.

The general public would

like some of these.

Well,

a lot of them look like they are

branded to be online and sold year round.

Yeah.

Other than the forging elite

fitness shirt.

That's the only one that

said CrossFit games,

Yeah.

It doesn't take much to,

to like up the merch, you know?

So it's great.

Yeah.

So I thought that was cool.

Uh, inside the arena,

the whole lower bowl was full.

Um, the upper middles were pretty full.

So it was definitely a much

better crowd today than it was yesterday.

Good.

It's good to hear.

Um,

Fergie wants to know if they have

Spartan green.

I did.

I did not see Spartan green.

Oh,

spectator experience,

they could do a little bit

more with the lighting.

And also,

at least the events that I watched,

the DJ was pretty weak.

They before the final heat

of the women for six and seven,

they had some kind of like

almost like not elevator

music but like almost like

very chill music like

serious music for the

athletes like coming up to

the floor which is fine

that's a cool atmosphere

but then they were all like

on their starting mats and

the music was just like so

dead and the crowd was so

dead and I was like they're

about to do like a sprint

workout like you need to

like turn some something

bumping on right now like

it was just like that was

definitely a miss for me I

was like ah I couldn't

because that was such a fun

event to watch so

They could have created a

little bit more of like, okay,

we're about to go, you know.

Larry Young with nine ninety

nine super chat from where we were at.

It's great programming.

Great.

Lots of swings and pop.

Yeah.

Balanced old school merch

full pretty much today.

Albany.

This little square is fine.

Yeah.

The facilities are awesome.

Like,

you look around Albany and

you would not picture the

inside of these facilities

to be as nice as they are.

The amenities for the media

are better than they've been ever.

The, the,

the vendor village is the best

I've ever seen it at the games.

Cause it's indoor.

It looks nice.

It's,

I don't know.

It's just really, and the,

and the venue itself, the,

the arena looks really good inside.

Like the lighting is really good.

The Jumbotron is awesome.

The seats are nice.

It, it just is really good.

And, but we know we're not coming back.

So don't get too attached.

Yeah.

That sort of sucks.

Cause like Allison was saying yesterday,

it takes time to learn the

venue and learn.

And like,

I mean,

it is nice to stay in one place for

a few years and for even

for spectators to learn

restaurants and where they

want to go and just getting around.

Does it look professional?

No, it does.

I think you're muted, Allison.

All of a sudden we can't hear you.

Um, while she's trying to get on.

Um, yeah, it looks professional.

They, they extended the ending,

the landing where you come in to finish.

And, uh,

that makes it even better there too.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I think she can hear us.

We can't hear her.

She might be doing the out and in thing.

Vicki with a four ninety

nine super chat for a cup

of coffee and a snack or a snack.

Thank you so much.

That would have been so nice today.

Are you making it inside for

the events today or not?

So only I've only made one today,

but the content I'm trying to get,

I just can't get.

And because it's in two

different buildings.

Right.

If I had a team of two,

I could do I could do all this stuff.

Right.

I just, because I'm a team of one,

it's really hard.

Now,

Ishmael is getting me some content

from inside.

So I have a lot of video of

Hattie for that documentary

and stuff like that.

And he, of course,

posting pictures left and right.

You going to try to talk, Allison?

Nothing.

Nothing.

Sorry.

Oh, there.

There it is.

Nope.

Now gone.

You were there, then you were gone.

Jeremy, no,

I have not done any of the workouts.

I was thinking about

possibly doing the run

deadlift TNC walk tomorrow just for fun.

Just for fun.

Although that doesn't look fun at all.

I hope they announce the

twenty twenty-sixth location tomorrow.

Now you have the mute logo

that you're muted, Alison.

There, now try.

Is this working?

Yes.

That is awesome.

Okay, great.

I just ditched the AirPods completely.

There you go.

If they announce the twenty

twenty-sixth location,

It means that the sale is

imminent and that the new

owners are cooperating with

the current owners.

Right.

Yeah.

Just like the open

announcement already being

out for the dates,

just like the new merch

moving into a new owner.

I think that will just tell

a big story if we do hear a new location.

And you were saying for sure

it's not in Albany next year?

Dave said we are not coming

back to Albany.

Oh, wow, okay.

That it's a one-year thing.

Yeah.

And what's funny is the

people... So this was

something I had in my notes.

People from Albany are

telling me that Albany did

nothing to promote the event.

That's not good.

Yeah.

Now the people at the

facility are asking us if

all our needs are being met,

can they do anything more?

which is really cool.

But the fact that like when

you went downtown Madison,

you saw CrossFit everywhere,

not the case here.

Yeah.

I wonder how much of that is

CrossFit versus like the

city of Albany and like how

that kind of whole relationship works.

Cause I would assume it's kind of both,

right?

Yeah.

I would say that's a little

bit of function of,

first year thing I don't

think that they really I

don't think madison on year

one had a ton of buy-in

from the city I think as

the years progressed that

some of the businesses

would start to know you

know they know that weekend

is coming they would prep

menus with extra like

crossfit meals like if it

came back next year albany

might be more prepared yeah

It's interesting that he I didn't watch.

I'm assuming it was like one

of the weekend reviews that

Dave said we're not coming

back to Albany.

That would almost make me

think that they do have a location.

Yeah,

because I feel like if it were up in

the air, like, okay,

it's just a one year contract.

But like,

maybe we'll sign another one year

contract.

But if it was definitely

we're not coming back,

that makes it seem like

they have somewhere else then.

Agreed.

Yeah,

I know for like the age group games

that the people running

that are trying to work

with the city of Columbus

to form a partnership

because they want to stay

there long term.

And so they've been in

negotiations with the city.

community members and the uh

city of commerce chamber of

commerce um to help promote

the events and that's why

they got it we've said on

the show the different

hotels with blocks of rooms

so that they can show what

how many people are coming

to the town for the event

and um and so they can get

that partnership and making

it making it an ongoing um

an ongoing relationship

Which they were late to the

party on announcing that

because so many people

already had hotel rooms

booked in Columbus before

that got announced.

So maybe,

I don't know if these hotels can

ask upon check-in if you're

there for the games and

maybe tally it somehow after the fact,

because they're going to

miss out on a ton of

numbers with the way they

did it this year.

Yeah.

If you are going to Columbus,

I got some recommendations.

Definitely,

definitely check out North Star Cafe,

Jenny's Ice Cream, Brown Bag Deli,

and CrossFit Grandview.

Those are some of my...

CrossFit Grandview?

CrossFit Polaris.

That's like thirty minutes

from the convention center.

It is.

Even people that ask me,

I'm not even recommending that.

Yeah.

I see.

It's not CrossFit Polaris anymore though,

right?

It is.

Oh, okay.

I thought they renamed it.

no um the christy and

patrick sold it yeah and

they're old-time members

who bought it so they have

kept it all crossfit

polaris okay they never

really switched they called

it training center but it

was still crossfit polaris

okay well I thought they

changed it to like

community fitness polaris

like it was like cfp or

something I don't think it

ever got to that point I

got you okay let's see

It is a great gym also.

Jeremy says it'll go

overseas too much flying back and forth.

Dave specifically said it

like probably in two years,

it's going overseas.

That's what he said.

Yeah, I agree.

I think it's a mistake personally,

but I don't, maybe that was,

maybe he knows something

with the new owners that

they want to push the

Europe scene and that's,

that's on the plan.

One of the best crowds I ever competed in,

though, was Brazil.

CrossFit.

Jenny's is a chain now,

but it originated in Columbus.

Yeah.

Get your facts straight.

CrossFit.

Jenny's is basically in

every possible games.

Not the original.

Come on.

It's not in Albany.

No, it's not.

It's not in Las Vegas?

I've never heard of it.

It's not here in Michigan.

Bramble Berry Crunch.

And the goat cheese with red cherries.

Peanut Almond Brittle.

They have the wackiest flavors.

They are in Whole Foods.

Snackrelidge.

Grater's Beats Jenny's.

That's an L take.

All right.

That's Cincinnati versus Columbus.

Graders is Cincinnati.

Jenny's is Columbus.

Anything else I have?

Yeah, I think that's all the notes I had.

So we hit the floor this

morning with event four

where they did the twist,

and we had some running,

we had some deadlifts,

and we had some handstand walks.

Let's talk about the women first.

Okay.

Because someone stared down

the champ and said, let's go.

She sure did.

And I had goosebumps.

That's like someone going up

to Tiger Woods on a Sunday and saying,

let's rumble.

You know,

there was a fifteen year period

where that never happened.

And Lucy Campbell went head

to head with the goat and she won.

Did she actually say that to Tia,

or you're just saying by her performance?

By her performance.

Okay.

I was like,

I want to see that footage of

her going up to Tia and be like,

you and me.

That would be epic.

She forced Tia's hand to go

early on a handstand walk

and miss a handstand walk.

When was the last time you saw Tia miss?

I mean, I will say...

If there was an event.

Don't ruin my vibe.

Dan's handstand walking is

the event Tia doesn't win.

All the time.

That's where you see

Danielle Brandon or

somebody else beat Tia.

It's no surprise that she

didn't win this one.

I'd say with the amount of running,

that was surprising to me.

I mean, yes,

it was a lot of handstand walking, but

you just think tia like with

her high rocks you know

like stent that she's been

on it's like she could make

up so much time on those

runs but lucy beat her on

the deadlifts yeah she beat

her by going unbroken on

every set of deadlifts

that's incredible and

that's what forced tia to

do more handstand walking faster right

Well,

I would say it was probably heavy

enough on deadlifts.

It didn't need to be heavier.

It didn't need to change to

a heavy deadlift workout.

Yeah.

I thought that workout

looked boring on paper.

But like Dave always says,

it's not about the programming.

It's about letting the athlete shine.

Yep.

And that's what that workout did.

I agree.

The athletes made that workout.

Yeah.

I sort of expected Danielle

Brandon to be a little higher.

Really?

I did.

She has not done well on a

handstand walk workout in a couple years.

It's almost like she's saying,

I don't want to be predictable.

I don't know if I agree.

I don't know about that.

I think when you have your thing,

you want it to be your thing.

Like, yeah.

Maybe.

Maybe.

She just hasn't dominated

like she did in the past.

I don't know.

Yeah.

But the ones that she's

dominated have been, like, a heavy, like,

it's only handstand walking.

Like, the obstacle,

the year where they had the row,

kettlebell, long distance, like...

that that's where she can

really make up her time.

And like, I think in a workout like that,

I, you know,

wasn't paying super close attention,

but I would imagine that

most athletes are just breaking it up,

being smart.

And like,

you're not going to really make

up that much time on a handstand walk.

Like, yes,

if you're more efficient and

competent at the handstand walking,

it's going to take less

energy and that's going to, you know,

compound and help you get

through the event faster.

But yeah,

And especially these days,

like everybody's good at

handstand walking now.

The field is catching up.

Yeah.

So that workout changed the

leader's jersey.

Yeah.

Chase kept saying the first

time since two thousand eighteen.

That is not true.

It's not true.

It was twenty two.

Yeah.

After the skill medley.

I sent a note to the podcast

to say it was actually Mal

O'Brien took over the jersey.

It was Emma Lawson, then Mal O'Brien,

then she got it back after the Capitol.

Yes.

I went back through all the

video footage to see when

she had it on and when she didn't.

So for two events,

she did not wear the

leader's jersey in twenty two.

Yeah.

And

I sent a note to the barbell spin.

Hey, get this to Chase.

Tell him to stop saying twenty eighteen.

Set him straight.

Yeah.

Sounds so much cooler, though.

Yeah, it does.

But yeah,

it was because you remember in twenty two,

like everybody was shocked

when she got cut on the

first round of the skill

medley because she couldn't

do a single under single unders.

Yeah.

Yeah, I remember.

Larry Young.

Oh my gosh.

This is actually Larry Young saying this.

I need to check ID.

It's funny.

I heard a few people say

deadlifts could have been heavier.

Probably Larry,

but it played out pretty good.

Shocker.

Shocker how that works.

I'm always like,

I know that I'm not the

only person that they had

test set events too,

but I was kind of nervous that I was like,

Oh, maybe I'm just like weak, you know,

like,

cause like I did it at two forty

five and it was very hard

and I had to break up every

set substantially.

And I was like, I don't know.

I just kind of feel like the

deadlifts were a little too heavy.

And just with the axle bar,

it's a little bit, you know,

it's kind of like not the

same percentages as a regular bar.

um and then you know when

you hear everyone

criticizing you're kind of

like oh maybe I'm just like

maybe I just suck at

deadlifts and they

shouldn't have changed it

you know but it was it

looked like a better

workout how it how it

played out today I every

single woman except for

Lucy broke up the deadlift

yeah if it would if it was

too light people would have

that people would have been

crushing yeah exactly it wasn't too light

Especially, you know,

considering how many events

they've done already.

Yes.

Why is it called the Woodway?

I was expecting it to look

like it was made out of a piece of wood.

I don't know why the brand is that.

Yeah.

Maybe the original, they were actually,

I think the original curved treadmill.

Um,

and maybe their first prototype was

made out of wood.

Cause they are kind of like slats.

Right.

Right.

But they're the current day

ones are made out of like rubber.

Yeah, it is the brand.

I don't know.

It could be someone's last name too.

I don't even know.

Uh, just not get Jersey till day two.

That's not correct.

You can go back and watch the video.

She has the Jersey on.

She won the first event,

which was bike to work.

And then she lost the jersey

on the fourth event,

which was the skill medley.

She did not get it back

during Elevated Elizabeth.

And then she finally took it

back after the Capitol.

I thought Haley won bike

tour because she had a

leader's jersey for the first time.

Okay.

But Tia does have it on in

the event before the skill medley.

Or she has it on in the skill medley.

Okay.

I went back and watched

those events over again to

see when she had the jersey on.

You can pull them all up on YouTube.

Yeah.

What I did notice is the

younger girls were stronger

than the old guard.

It wasn't me, Scott.

I told you give me one rep

max to balance things out.

Things...

do wtf you want the rest and

I'll never complain I'm

just giving you a hard time

larry uh trish heard that

the woodway was made of

douglas fur all right trish

all right so on the other

side of the house we also

had um we also had

a changing of the Leisure's jersey,

and someone get it for the

first time in his career,

and that's Jay Crouch,

who dominated this event.

Yeah, he did.

Incredible.

When I saw his time was like,

sixteen-something, I was like, what?

That's nuts.

It's crazy.

And he had such a lead, he could stop,

look both ways,

make sure that he kept the lead.

Almost.

He almost got beat by

walking across the freaking finish line.

He knew what he was doing.

I don't know.

I don't think anyone was coming.

Yeah.

Don't read all that.

They went down.

I can't see it.

jay almost hot dogged yeah

it yeah it was not I was

like oh my god get across I

mean even like judge is

like go yeah I I saw his

judge go like you have to

cross yeah yeah um so that

was pretty cool

Then we moved into Jamie's

favorite event of the weekend,

which is the one rep max back squat.

This was truly my favorite.

How?

How can it not be?

To see that little dude get

under that bar and walk

back with five hundred and

seventy pounds and drop

into a squat and back up

like I have six hundred in me.

Yeah.

I specifically said if it's

just a three-rep attempt

back squat situation like normal,

it's going to be dumb.

I mean, sure,

it's cool to see Colton hit that weight.

It's cool to see Annika and

Miriam hit those weights.

But, like, out of the women, I'd say only,

like,

three women even hit their third weight.

Everyone failed their third weight.

You left out Jennifer Muir,

who won the damn thing.

Oh,

Jennifer Muir hit the same way as Anika

though.

Hot take.

I think Anika has the stronger back squat.

She finished and I was like,

why didn't you go heavier?

It looked so easy compared to Miriam's.

Hers was amazing too, but I was just like,

oh my gosh,

Anika had like twenty more

pounds in there.

It would look so easy.

And then did you see Rebecca Devine?

Oh, yeah.

Oh, and that looked easy.

Unbelievable.

Oh, my God.

She attempted four.

Did she?

I missed that one.

She backed off the rep with

four hundred pounds.

That alone is amazing.

Yeah.

Did the boys have to start

lower than her top attempt?

They let her go first and

then strip the bar.

no so I don't the first guy

lifted what she finished

with okay that's so badass

that's so badass yeah five

seventies freakish try

moving that off the rack

yeah listen I've gotten

four seventy five off the

rack and I can tell you it

was it was hellish hard I

can't even imagine a hundred more pounds

Yes, Jeff.

Rebecca Devine is teams.

CrossFit Hendersonville.

They're the other Mayhem

team that had to go.

They were like last minute one, right?

Yeah, they're the ones who didn't... Yeah,

they got called in because

of the... I don't even know

what happened.

But yeah,

they're the ones that worked out.

I think it was a failed drug test.

Yeah, I think so.

It was someone got hurt and

they didn't name a sub.

They only named four people.

It was out of...

Yeah, it was out of Norway.

Yes.

Oh, wow.

Okay.

But, yeah,

they're typically the second Mayhem team,

but they couldn't have two Mayhem teams,

so they had to go to the

neighboring affiliate.

I see.

Did you see this?

Denise really enjoyed Alex's

commentary during the back squad event.

I liked her kickback to

Chase when he asked what it

– Brooke felt like being

out there for the last time,

and she's like, I don't know.

I have never retired before.

That's a good response.

Who was doing the commentary?

Alex Kazan.

Oh,

I didn't know she was doing that today.

That's awesome.

She just did heat one and

two of the women's squats.

Yeah.

And her response was what?

I don't know.

I've never retired before.

I love Alex.

Okay.

James Sprague looks like

he's going to herniate his

back and shoot a hemorrhoid

out every time he back squats.

That is an accurate description.

That's exactly what I look like squatting.

And just looking in a mirror

with far more plates than

what I would have.

Got to work with what you got.

Yeah.

James Sprague is performing good mornings,

not back squats.

I'm well aware.

Yep.

OK.

So I thought it was a fun event.

I didn't really like the format,

as we've talked about on the show.

I think tiebreakers can be

an exciting element to the games.

And if they would have had a

way to climb a ladder and

then have tiebreakers for

everybody at the same weight,

I think that would have

been a lot more fun.

Yeah, especially on the,

I didn't fully dive into

the leaderboard on the men's side,

but the women,

there was a lot of

bottlenecks right around

three Oh five to two ninety.

And so I think there was

like ten plus people in those weights.

And so if they had something,

I think it looked like they

scored them tiebreaker on

the attempt that they took.

So if you attempted three hundred first,

but then failed the rest, you, I guess,

won the tiebreaker.

Huh.

Versus like working up to three hundred.

okay so what I heard was

from athletes is that the

tiebreaker was your second

lift that's what I had

heard if you didn't have a

second lift it went to your

first lift yeah okay that's

good to know but like

annika and annika and

jennifer muir did the same

three weights the entire

way through so they tied

then yeah yeah um

Yeah.

I love when they have like the little,

like, you know,

sandbags over the yoke or

like something like little sprint off,

like, like they've done in years past.

I think that makes it really, it's like a,

you know,

workout within the workout to

make it more exciting.

Yeah.

And in the clean,

they did like a clean and jerk runoff in,

uh, in.

Yeah.

And they've done like the

touch and go cleans too.

They had the one year.

Yeah.

So that would have been fun,

but it was a good event.

Again, I could quibble with the format,

but it was still fun to watch.

I got excited.

I do like that they had

people go one at a time, though.

They've typically done that in the past,

but, you know,

when you look at something like WFP, like,

yes, the athletes got a lot more attempts,

but it was just, like, a lot going on to,

like,

instead of just kind of focusing on

one at a time.

Allison looking a lot like

Shailene Woodley tonight.

thank you I think I think

that's yeah I would I would

take that as a compliment

thank you um so we finished

the back squat and then we

went into probably the most

exciting event of the night

and I didn't foresee this

to be that way but it

really did turn out well um

I love the box jump box jump overs

three at a time,

boxes the whole way down the floor.

It tells the story so much

better than in past years,

but it was a back-to-backer.

The first one was ski erg

into chest-to-bar,

into the burpees down the

floor with a weight vest on.

Strip the weight vest,

come back to concept two bike,

bar muscle-ups, burpees down the floor.

this thing shook up the

leaderboard tremendously

tremendously so if you

thought the one rep max

squat was going to shake it

up because it's um single

modality this shook it all

right back to where fitness was king

Yep.

Especially with the recovery aspect.

Um,

I also thought it was cool that we

didn't see, uh, any repeat winners, um,

just showcasing that, like,

that they were different

enough to reward different

athletes and also the

recovery aspects and

different strategies that

you could take as an athlete.

Like,

am I going to just send it and see

what happens?

Or am I going to like leave

a little bit still on the tank?

So I heard a male athlete

tell a female athlete after

they went that the first

one doesn't get you tired

as tired as you think it will push it.

Totally different workouts for the women.

Very different.

I will say that is my big

complaint with this was the

difference in workouts

between the men and the women.

I,

either the calories needed

to be less or the time cap

needed to be longer.

So they had a little bit longer rest.

I didn't, I didn't like it.

Yeah.

The woman that was told that

did well in both.

Oh, there you go.

I think that was one of the

most interesting things of

the day for me.

Yeah.

Is the amount of talking

between the men and the

women in between events.

And it wasn't camp camp.

Exclusive.

Hmm.

Yeah.

Well, that's cool.

I've never been in the warmup area before.

This is like my first time.

Right.

So I'm seeing these things

that probably Alison has seen before,

but it just seems like, Hey,

these two people are

friends and they're sharing

a lot of information back and forth.

Yeah.

Even though they're in separate camps.

Yeah,

it can definitely be helpful if you

know who you're talking to as well.

But a lot of the times if I

hear advice from somebody

who doesn't know me as an athlete,

I'm just, I kind of just like, okay,

thanks.

Like, yeah, it's so...

specific athlete driven but

also it's a different type

like different types of

athletes I think also like

I'm a very like I know what

my strategy is and maybe to

a fault even you know maybe

I like pace it too much or

like have too much of a

strategy versus like kind

of letting it rip sometimes but

Yeah,

I remember actually one of my

previous semifinal event

level events that I competed at.

I was in one of the first

heats and someone in the top heat,

a very well-known games athlete, asked me,

was like,

what pace do you think I should bike at?

And I was like,

What?

We don't know each other at all.

I'm like, don't you know your paces?

I don't know.

I can tell you what I did,

but you're probably going

to be faster than that.

So that just kind of blew my

mind five minutes before the workout.

Oh, what pace do you think I should do?

Yeah.

Uh, Jeff Bako says,

can you comment on how DB's

interaction with the other athletes was?

I saw nothing out of the

ordinary in her interaction

with other athletes.

No,

she was just like everybody else back

there.

And no,

I didn't see the gooch and I didn't

see cash backstage.

No,

she's as focused as every other athlete

getting coached by, um, more not Adam,

but the other one.

Um,

of Justin's coaches.

But the glasses, I don't know.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Jesse.

Yeah.

Jesse.

Yep.

Yeah.

She's getting coached more by Jesse and,

um,

and that they seem to have a nice

working relationship and

everything seems peachy

keen and all the other,

and she's chatting with the

other athletes on the bike

while they're warming up on

the bikes and whatever, nothing,

nothing out of the ordinary to report.

I will say like the one

thing I've learned is before an event,

the focus is through the roof,

like getting any kind of

interaction with an athlete

for the press is very hard.

It is much better to get it

after the event is over and

talk to them on a cool down bike.

Yeah.

And then they're very amenable to tell,

talk and tell a story and whatever.

Yeah, that's probably why, I mean,

a lot of people have

commented on Lauren

Khalil's interviews and

that she's getting a lot.

And honestly,

the not having the enhanced

access may have saved her

because she's getting them

on their way back from

events and when they're

more willing to talk and she isn't.

Yeah, in a way,

it's nice to not be in their space.

They will be more willing to

speak to you if you aren't bothering them

And you don't get on their nerves.

Yeah.

And most of the people back there,

back with the enhanced

access are doing more than one thing.

They're doing more than just interviewing.

So like they're splitting time with,

with different stuff and moving around.

Yeah.

I have other comments,

but I'm going to keep them to myself.

Did you watch six and six and seven,

Live or on the TV?

I was live right at the finish line.

You both watched it live?

On the TV.

You watched it?

I watched it on the TV.

And you thought it was good?

I did.

I did.

I thought it was terrible coverage.

I didn't say the coverage

was good I said the event

was good but you but you

could barely like I know

exactly what you're talking

about like when they would

show the floor you're like

man this is going to be

awesome but they kept

zooming in on one athlete

and you couldn't even see

the race on the floor you

didn't even know who was

ahead on burpee box jump

overs and you're like this

is a perfectly laid out

floor for a yeah for a side

view and to see people it was awful

I was talking with Lex this morning,

and they've gone back to

the same old coverage where

they just show the top person,

maybe a split screen if it's a close race,

and then you don't see any

of the other athletes until

those are off the floor.

And then you have to see

them laying on the ground

for five seconds before

they go back to the... Exactly.

Yeah.

So frustrating.

I will never like that coverage.

I don't understand why they

won't change that.

I don't understand how they

can think that's good

coverage and how that's

exciting for people to watch.

Yes, I'm watching the zone.

Nobody likes it, Andrew.

It's zero, one hundred,

maybe one ninety nine.

Andy has it right.

Love the event layout coverage was ass.

Yep.

And then just right.

You,

then you get to see the athlete that

finishes dead last more

than anyone else since

they're the last on the floor.

Yeah.

Um, at AI says, Allie,

tell your cat to calm down.

What do you mean?

There was someone banging on

one of somewhere.

Oh, sorry.

I was just moving my chair.

Oh.

My cat's not here, sadly.

I wish that she was.

They were missing people

coming up the outside lanes

and confusing athletes.

They missed a couple

completely that overtook the lead.

And even the ticker at top

said they took over the lead,

and they still didn't move

off the center lane.

Yeah,

I think definitely for the – I can

see why they do that

coverage in some events, but, like,

because you want to get the

– you do want to have the up-closes and,

like, get to really, like,

see the athletes.

But especially something

that's really short and

fast down the lane,

it's like you almost need, like,

a drone cam or, like,

just a sideline just, like,

following the leader, but, like,

so you can still see the floor.

Yeah.

um because that was a really

cool component of watching

it live is like you could

see they were right next to

each other and you could

see if somebody was gaining

on somebody because of how

fast they were like

advancing yeah it was

really great in person

Now you're just starting to piss me off,

Andrew.

Yeah.

I trust people who have

decades of experience in production.

It's only been one company

they have ever used.

There's been no threat to

them ever not being the

production company for the

CrossFit Games.

If you go back to twenty

thirteen and you turn it on,

you can't tell the

difference in the coverage then to today.

Every other sport you turn on coverage,

it has advanced.

It has gotten better.

Things around it have gotten better.

Hell,

they didn't even change the graphics

for ten years.

It is ass.

They have done nothing to improve it.

Nothing.

And I don't need to be an expert.

I'm a viewer.

I'm a watcher.

I can tell you it sucks.

I watch other sports.

They don't suck.

Yeah,

I will say I did get to get a little

peek behind the broadcast

curtain last year.

I was in their like control

rooms and it's an amazing

thing to watch for sure.

And those people like are

very good at their jobs,

but it almost seems like a

stylistic type of thing.

Like you're saying, Scott,

like they have this like

formula and they stick to it and

Yeah, I don't know.

I was just trying that whole time to, like,

brainstorm, like, what is that?

What is the reasoning, you know?

Because you hear that a lot

from the people that watch.

And, yeah, it's interesting.

I would love to talk to Rafi about that.

Yeah.

Well,

and part of my hope was the WFP would

do something about that, right?

And I understand what you're

saying about people want to see –

closer action I'm okay with

a two or a three shot for a

while I hate when they go

to a one shot yep so just

give me the couple lanes

beside the person yeah

along with the person don't

just give me the one person

Right.

Which they, you know, it's,

there's a time and a place.

Allie's right.

Like that,

that three minute event to spend

thirty seconds on one

person and you've lost, which they did.

Like, seriously, I'm like,

we're going to miss the

entire finish here.

I don't need thirty seconds

of one person on a three minute event.

When it's the eighteen minute event,

if you want to spend twenty,

thirty seconds on somebody, totally fine.

Yep.

Yeah,

and that's where they can sometimes

tell the story of an athlete.

They have it on them and they're like, oh,

this is Brooke Wells.

She's competed ten times, blah, blah,

blah.

Give a little background and

story of the athletes,

which I think is a great part.

But it's like they almost

need a dynamic approach.

It reminds me a lot, actually, of...

the crossfit um kind of like

their no rep policy where

it's like certain no reps

and events are much more

costly than others so you

can't just have like a

blanket statement much like

you can't just have a

blanket broadcast it's like

okay this is you know and

maybe they have like two or

three templates okay this

is like a longer event so

we are going to tell those

longer stories get in depth

And this is a fast event.

So we're going to like do

mostly zoomed out shots, show the leader,

but like also show the race

because that's what makes

this event super exciting.

Yeah.

And CrossFit has taken that

feedback and now they have

different penalties and

kind of like standards for

different types of no reps.

And I think that was a really good change.

Yeah.

Agree,

a double under is not the same as a

rope line.

Yeah, exactly.

You can though, Scott.

There's clock and rep

counters on the floor.

There's ticker across the

top of the screen.

The last few years we never had.

There's always been rep

counters at the top of the screen.

Go back to twenty fourteen.

There were rep counters at

the top of the screen then.

The rep counters on the

floor are not broadcast.

They are there in the arena

for the people watching live.

It's okay to say something needs improved.

It needs improved.

There can be a better

watching experience than

what we have today.

There can be.

I do think the rep counters on the floor,

though, were a nice touch this year.

I know they've done those in

certain events,

but it seems like they're

really utilizing those this year.

They used them for the pack squats.

They used them for the team pegboard event,

too, which was really nice.

I could not agree more.

I thought that added so much to the floor,

having them on everything.

You got to see the meters run.

You got to see the scales on the machines.

The made weight and the

attempted weight on the back squat,

I thought it added so much,

so much to the floor.

Yeah.

Kudos to whoever came up with that idea.

So anyway, that's that.

At the end of the day,

let's look at the

leaderboards real quick.

Okay.

Give you your top five.

On the men's side, James Hopper,

Jason Hopper.

Gosh.

Jason Hopper has the

leader's jersey again.

He had it, lost it, got it back.

Ricky Garrard made it mad

ground to be in second.

James Sprague is in third.

Justin Medeiros in fourth.

And Jay Crouch sitting in fifth,

with Dallin Pepper sneaking

up behind by five points in sixth.

The points were very close, like,

all the way down to eighth, really.

Like,

just like people were kind of predicting,

like, those top ten,

it could be anybody's

tomorrow with those events.

And I think Harry

Lightfoot's the only one in

there that wasn't in everyone's top ten.

Yeah.

Right.

He kind of struggled on

those last two events tonight,

but I don't know how much

that swung his points, but...

On the women's side,

Tia Clare Toomey got back

her leader's jersey.

Lucy Campbell, though,

is sitting in second.

Tia does have a sixty point lead,

fifty nine point lead.

Ariel Lowen is in fourth or third,

and she is.

Almost one hundred points

behind Lucy Campbell.

That's crazy.

That's insane.

Yeah.

Lucy Campbell and Tia are

running away from with this.

Miriam Von Roer is eight

points behind Ariel.

Amy Kringle sits in fifth,

just one point behind Miriam.

And Maddie Sturt sitting in sixth.

Yeah.

I was really impressed with Maddie today.

I mean, she's an amazing athlete,

obviously,

but she is a little bit on the

smaller side,

and I wasn't sure how she

would do in the back squat,

but she put up a really big number,

and she's just –

Good at everything.

She is extremely raw.

She's kind of like Jay.

Yeah.

Yep.

Did you guys see the real I

put out of Maddie watching

Jay on the screen?

Oh yes.

That was adorable.

That's adorable.

I love it.

And did you see the comment?

Do you get one of Jason and Dale?

Yeah.

If they could watch each other,

that would be amazing.

Yeah.

Yeah.

The problem is they're on

the floor at the same time.

They'd have to stop working

out to look at each other.

Yeah.

All right.

Do we want to hit teams

before we head out?

I know Savon's live.

So we lost.

Yeah.

A decent, well, not,

we lost a third of our audience,

but we still have two thirds here.

What?

Yeah.

I want to,

I have not seen the finish of the teams.

I don't know what the leader.

Yeah.

So really close race for the podium.

Oh yeah.

Is Oslo in first?

yep but I believe that I

don't have it in front of

me but are they tied for

points scott or it's very

close five five point

difference yeah mayhem and

krieger oh mayhem oslo

mayhem and then butcher's

lab and then butcher's lab

okay yeah yeah and they

just um they don't have their uh they

don't have their final event

for tomorrow yet.

But Dave posted on his story

like a behind the scenes of

the teams doing lunges.

The team is thinking that

they're going to have lunges.

Worm lunges?

It was literally just people's feet,

but it looked like it was

worm lunges because they

were all on the line.

You know what I mean?

Okay.

He posted like a little teaser.

I see he put out the event ten, which is

Oh, right.

That event is out now.

Okay.

Yeah.

So do you think teams is

like basically the same

instead of the finish of

the overhead walking lunge?

There's a lunge to finish with the worm,

but they have to also do

I mean,

they have done overhead worm lunges

in the past.

Gross.

I have no intel of the team competition.

I just did the individual testing,

but it seems like the team

events have trended this

year as being very similar

to the individual events.

so I wouldn't be surprised

if they had some sort of

synchro thruster rope climb

and then a lunge maybe even

an overhead lunge with the

worm to finish it off I

would even like to see that

just like rope climb and

lunge a lunge thruster yeah

yeah maybe yeah that would

that would actually make

more sense to do worm

thruster and then you know

lunge it down the field or

whatever yeah I think that'd be great

They haven't done any burpees yet either,

so that could be a possible

wrench in the difference in the workout.

Yeah.

I could see that.

Bless you.

Thank you.

That final event is so fun, though.

Oh, yeah.

Especially ending with that lunge.

Ace ending reps.

Gross.

Yeah.

Yep.

Ooh.

Three, five, seven, rope climbs, nine,

fifteen, twenty-one, thruster,

hundred foot overhead

walking lunge to finish.

Yep.

You know Dave has to have

his march at the end.

I know.

Yep.

I think it'll be a exciting

day for teams and

individuals tomorrow just with chances.

On a team side, they have a lot of,

the first event is very CrossFit-y.

They have the four-person deadlift bar,

which is always fun.

It's a cool visual on the floor.

They have big chunks of handstand walking,

which in the past has been

a really big shakeup for the teams.

So that'll be interesting.

I don't think they know

exactly the format of that

because they get briefed in the morning.

So it'll be interesting to see, like,

they had the one year where

they all had to kind of go

in the same order and you

had to go unbroken.

So I could see them doing

something similar to that,

which could really shake up

the field more.

And then, yeah,

if we get some sort of like

burner with the worm,

especially we saw the teams

today with those clean and jerk jerk,

which was like a new movement,

you can just tell the

difference in the teams

that have experience in

that and how much of a

difference that makes in

their efficiency and how

well they perform on those events.

And just to reiterate how close it is,

kreiger is at four eighty

mayhem four seventy five

butchers lab four sixty

five whoo who's in fourth

and then it's crossfit

franco's imam company they

are forty five points

behind okay and fourth so

it really does look like a

three-team race and

something unless something crazy happens

There could be some, I mean,

those three teams are very

solid and they're in first,

second and third for a reason.

But we've seen crazier things happen,

especially with a high scale movement,

like a long handstand walk,

especially if it's got to be unbroken.

There can be a lot of shakeups there.

And the team field is just

very competitive this year

with only twenty teams.

So I know the Franco squad there.

They're legit.

I know I know a few of them

and they're they're right there.

They've been doing great all weekend.

And yesterday's leader, Campbell City,

is still in fifth.

Okay.

I think they did last on the back squat.

That was tough.

They are sixty-five points out of first.

Everybody else is way more

than a hundred points out.

Yeah.

So it's really going to come

down to those five teams.

Any others?

I really want to see Tola

get his gold medal.

So that's what I'm rooting for.

Do you know what Tola hit on a squat?

I didn't even like see him.

I don't know.

I know Griffin did a four sixty five.

Five sixty five.

Sorry, five sixty five.

I keep getting the hundred

pound marker messed up for

the men and the women.

Yeah, I did.

Griffin's.

Yeah.

Griffin had more in the tank.

They just were rushing to

get that last lift in.

And that's probably all they

could get on there.

Yeah.

It was very chaotic for the team format.

They were like, five minutes to go.

Yeah.

How about totally getting

his gold medal and Kristen

Holta helping him do it?

Pretty epic.

I find it interesting that

they keep talking about Oslo like a

I don't know what they've been saying.

A Norwegian team has never

won or whatever.

But then, I mean,

they keep talking about them,

but they fail to mention

that it's taken bringing an

American to the team to get

them in this position.

And it's like,

maybe you should stop

talking about it because it doesn't.

Yeah.

I don't know.

It's weird.

Jamie always defending us.

All the top teams are mixed,

you know what I mean?

Yeah.

There's no true grassroots affiliate teams,

really.

There might be some.

I don't know for sure,

but I'd say more teams than

not are some kind of super team,

whether somebody's moved

there or like Raf's team,

they travel in for, you know.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Well, that's pretty much all I have today.

There are more vignettes out

there for the members.

I talked with, who did I talk to today?

Nick Matthew after the back squat.

I talked to, or no,

I talked to Nick before the back squat.

I talked to your guy, Tudor Magda,

after the back squat.

I talked to Braun,

which is always an

interesting conversation.

He's great.

because I interviewed him

last year for the masters

games and this year, and he's like,

he's just over the moon

that as a master's aged athlete,

he's out there on the floor

and he just wants to finish

better than twenty seven,

which is where he finished

last time he went to the games.

OK.

But he it's a good one.

And then I did talk to the AFJ today.

about what they're trying to do,

how they're trying to

tighten up so little things

don't bog them down.

So we had a nice conversation about that.

And those will all be live

to everybody tomorrow.

Basically,

I'm not even following the

twenty-four hour rule.

It is as I get a new one,

I put the new one in members only,

and I take the last one of

the members out to the

public as I do it from now on.

Uh, CrossFit,

I did ask if their L ones

were up to date and what

they were doing to prove

that all of their app,

their judges are L ones are

up to date whenever they do

a competition.

Now they actually post all

the certifications on the

wall with the names of the

judges on it so that they

see the spelling and can

actually type it into the

database correctly.

Cause CrossFit doesn't have a,

a dropdown list anymore.

Right.

That's a good idea.

Should print those certificates.

They actually hired a

secretary who is taking

that and making a database of everything.

And they're doing their own

reminders now to their

judges when their L-Ones

are due to expire.

That's good.

We actually talk a lot about

like the goals of getting

more entrenched with

CrossFit HQ and having a

database for CrossFit to

have who are certified judges,

who are good ones to have

come in and do things.

And they say they're working on all that.

Now,

hopefully that continues with the new

ownership.

So.

Uh, no.

And I,

I don't want to ask them what their

favorite color is.

Although, uh,

Jules that I interviewed with them,

she brought me a red velvet

cheesecake cookie.

Oh, did she get that somewhere on site?

She made it herself.

She is, she is a known like chef, uh,

level cook and baker it was

so rich oh my gosh but it

was tasted so good that's

one thing I think they're

missing out a little bit is

the food situation on site

I wish they had more better food options

Although I had a slice of pizza today,

and it was pretty good.

Is it just, like, normal concession food?

Normal concession food.

And then outside they have, like,

the Asian punch bowls, which were fine.

One of the concessions today I had was,

like, tacos, which was fine.

But I just feel like they

have a missed opportunity there.

Like,

I remember they had a couple

specialized vendors in Madison,

and they were, like, such good food.

And they were always super busy.

Yeah.

It did.

It had white chocolate on the outside,

just so you know.

Still talking about this cookie.

She told me she bribed you

with it to get the interview.

We actually set up the interview.

He doesn't deny it.

In Vendor Village,

they did have like a yogurt stand.

which was a little bit different.

You could just get like

literally a cup of yogurt

that you would buy at the store.

They just had it available

like as a vending thing.

And I know some of the press

people were eating that as

opposed to the other options available.

So, all right.

Yeah,

forget that Allie talked about

Jenny's ice cream earlier.

Yeah, they need an ice cream place.

I'd be hitting that up.

I've, I've definitely been in a,

as a spectator,

I've definitely been in a calorie deficit,

which is not good for me.

So I got to kind of get the

calories in somehow.

They have the acai bowls at least.

Yes, they do have the acai bowls,

but I think only one vendor

and it's outside.

Like they don't have a

little cart on the inside.

Like they moved it.

Yeah.

You've got to go like back

and forth so much anyway.

You're outside, inside, outside, inside.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Anyway.

Well, with that,

Andrew's going to bring

graders up to Columbus.

We have those.

They have them.

Yeah.

Yeah.

We don't need you to bring us other.

Actually, graders is actually.

We don't need your graders.

Graders is pretty good, but it is not.

It is good.

Agreed.

Jenny's is a little creamier.

in my opinion um with that
