Inside the Practitioner's Path

This week's episode is a honest reflection from Aila on what it means to truly know ourselves beyond form, roles, thoughts, and personality. In this solo episode, she explores our essential nature, the deeper intelligence that animates all of life, and how consciously resting in that truth changes the way we live, relate, and practice.

Drawing on nature, simplicity, and lived experience, Aila invites practitioners to trust the same wisdom that grows trees, breaks through concrete, and guides life toward wholeness—and to recognize that this intelligence is always at work within us and our clients.

What is Inside the Practitioner's Path?

Most of the powerful, unguarded conversations we have as practitioners happen behind the scenes. This podcast was created to bring those conversations forward. It’s a space for real talk about client work, presence, creating powerful containers for waking others up, embodied change, and the ways we continue to grow and meet our edges as we guide others.

Welcome to Inside the Practitioner's Path. I'm Eli Coats, and I'm Barb Patterson. This is a private space for those doing this work and those feeling called to it, who want to live what they teach and explore. The real behind the scenes happenings about our work, ourselves, and the edges we meet along the way. It's unfiltered and unedited, just like us talking about how this work shapes us right alongside our clients.

We share what moves us, what makes us laugh, and what we're still figuring out. This is about presence, practice, and community. The ongoing work of being human while helping other humans. Well. Welcome inside. I'm taking too long. Welcome. Should be like that. Okay. Welcome. Welcome. Enough. Oh! It's impossible. Hey, everybody. Welcome. We're just so glad you're here. I love anything you want to add to that.

Welcome inside.

Hi everyone! My name is Ayla and welcome to another episode of Inside the Practitioner's Path. The title of this, more than just a pretty face. It made me laugh when I thought of it, so I thought I would use it. But really, what this, episode is going to be about is really what it means to consider that we are spiritual beings, that we have an essential nature that we have, that we are more than just our pretty faces, our bodies, our thoughts, our feelings, our actions, our behaviors that we are essentially more than all of that, that we are that the very essence of who we are isn't found in the physical

world, in the way that we necessarily think it is. And one of the reasons I want to bring this up is my my contemplation of my spiritual nature, my essential self, my unchanging center, my connection with nature. My core, my core essence, my contemplation of that. And, considering, exploring it. Looking for it, being curious about it.

00;02;42;16 - 00;03;13;00

It is so impactful in how I navigate my own life as a person, as a wife, as a parent, and of course, as a practitioner. I mean, it is, vital really, for, for my, my own happiness and, connection to my well-being, the, the things that I wanted to, explore in this, in this episode today is just the the invitation.

00;03;13;00 - 00;03;39;14
Unknown
You know, Barb and I want to keep inviting you to consider this, a who are you really? You know, who are you truly when you're, you know, if you if you're not your thoughts if you're not your feelings, if you're not your sensations. If you're not your behaviors or your outcomes, if you're not, if you're not actually found in the visible world.

00;03;39;16 - 00;04;12;22
Unknown
Who are you? What are you? And for me, really, considering that creates so much, expansion, one way to kind of get at this, if it's a newer concept to you, it's to really consider for me, like I once did this, four day retreat with this mystic from Ghana, his name was his brother, Ishmael tete de. And during that retreat, what we considered solely for the whole four days is what if we are the exact same as nature?

00;04;12;25 - 00;04;38;17
Unknown
Truly, the exact same? What if we have the same stuff that created nature and is in nature, is in us? That we're no different or no different from the trees, the flowers, the bees, the mountains, the sun. No difference whatsoever. What if that's true? And what is it? What do they have? What is a tree have going for it?

00;04;38;17 - 00;05;16;09
Unknown
Like what is what's in a tree? And one of the funnest things I love considering is what if that wisdom that turned into a freaking acorn into an oak tree? What if that same wisdom is in me, growing me, guiding me, directing me, and I could actually look to it and lean on it and rest in it? And what if that's true in every single second of our lives?

00;05;16;12 - 00;05;48;14
Unknown
That we have that exact same intelligence, wisdom, clarity worked right into us, and it's not found necessarily at the level of the intellect. It's not found in our own ideas about who we are and what we should be and how we should be. It's found a little deeper, a little below the surface, a little bit under the soil, if you will.

00;05;48;17 - 00;06;18;10
Unknown
You know, it's found in the in the quiet. Sometimes it's found while you're dancing ecstatically, and you can hear the voice of wisdom guiding you and directing you. Sometimes it sounds like just simple logic, common sense, and obvious next step, but often it's found just right below any of the static or the frenetic energy that we can often operate in.

00;06;18;12 - 00;06;44;08
Unknown
So this is just one of many little conversations that I know Barb and I will continue to bring forward around what is it? What does it look like and really mean to consciously explore our essential nature and lean into it and look for it and be curious about it and ultimately, like, rest in it? What does that mean?

00;06;44;11 - 00;07;12;02
Unknown
How can it affect you in your life? There's one other thing I wanted to say, and that was something else about nature. One of the my favorite things that I really live in is that nature is so wild and free. Have you ever watched one of those Planet Earth video? You know, where there's like a little cute little chipmunk running along and it gets eaten by like a raccoon, and then you fall in love with the raccoon.

00;07;12;02 - 00;07;54;07
Unknown
You're like, oh, okay, the raccoon needs to eat, and then it gets eaten by a mountain lion. I mean, they're so intense I can barely watch them. But the truth about nature is that it's wild. And it's there's a impulse toward, living, thriving, expanding, growing, surviving. There's a natural unseen intelligence that's guiding each being toward the light, essentially toward a life that is thriving, that is abundant.

00;07;54;10 - 00;08;21;28
Unknown
That is enough. And again, that that, connection to allow it is me to what if I'm made of that same stuff? What if that's what I am? Doesn't matter. The mistakes I've made, it doesn't matter. My past, challenges or, you know, any outcomes I've experienced in my work or at school or growing up that I didn't love it.

00;08;21;29 - 00;08;48;10
Unknown
None of that matters right now. I have an opportunity in it and a impulse toward expansion and growth and abundance and surviving and thriving right now. That same thing that keeps that dandelion poking up through a cement crack that's in me to like. There's never a lack of.

00;08;48;13 - 00;09;30;05
Unknown
Opportunity, possibility. There's never a lack of, just like creative ideas and ways to continue to grow and expand, and whether it's in your work or in your world, or with money or in a relationship or in your body, our impulse is toward well-being. It's in every single living thing on the earth, in all of nature, and of course, in us, regardless of our pretty face, of our body, our thoughts, our emotions, it doesn't it doesn't discriminate.

00;09;30;07 - 00;10;01;18
Unknown
It is in all of us. And we can rest in that and breathe into that and rely on that. Okay, that's what I wanted to share. I hope this is helpful in some ways. And again, it's like this podcast is a real opportunity and an invitation to not only serve your clients in deeper, richer ways, but to really grow and awaken as a practitioner, knowing that's the way to serve our clients.

00;10;01;20 - 00;10;30;28
Unknown
And the more you see the truth of of this, the more you see your own essential nature, your true nature, your spiritual self, your soul, your higher self, the more you see it and are in a conscious relationship with it, the more you you can. You naturally see that in your clients, and you see their resiliency and their natural impulse toward health and vitality, that they have all of that in them as well.
