Intro
Hello and welcome to WORDTheatre Weekly, where we share recordings from our live events of the best short stories performed live by great actors! I’m your host, Cedering Fox, WORDTheatre's Founder & Artistic Director.

With four exciting events planned for September in Los Angeles, New York, and London, WORDTheatre Weekly will be bringing you a story from our archive featuring an actor or author who will be participating in one of these upcoming events. But we are taking a little break for now.
We sincerely hope that the immortal words of Martin Luther King Jr. will ring true: “The Arc of the Moral Universe is Long, But it Bends Toward Justice.” So we'll be back sometime after that critical vote in November. In the meantime, please enjoy past programs but don't pay attention to any dates or shows that are mentioned. You can always check out WORDTheatre.org and WORDTheatreUK. org to stay up to date on events near you!

Before I get to today's story, I'd like to invite everyone living near Los Angeles to join us live on Friday September 13th at the Moss Theatre on Olympic Boulevard in Santa Monica for our WORDTheatre Tribute to Langston Hughes: Stories, Poems, Jazz & The Blues. We have an extraordinary cast of celebrated actors and musicians! You can read about all of our upcoming events at WORDTheatre.org.

Now to today's podcast. This week, we are highlighting the marvelous Bernice McFadden, an award-winning novelist and professor who will be joining us for our next Manhattan event at The Players on Tuesday September 24th. Bernice is also leading our WRITERS workshop in France in October!

We hope that you are feeling energized by what is happening on the political scene these days! We have been galvanized into action. Since our founding, we have been on a mission to make a better world one story at a time and we thank you for being part of it by tuning into WORDTheatre WEEKLY.

Today we have the wonderful Malinda Williams performing Bernice’s story “Black Power,” a powerful tribute to Black activists of the past, and their resonance in our nation’s present state.

Please note that WORDTheatre holds the copyright to these recordings. No portion of anything you hear on WORDTheatre Weekly, our short story podcast may be reproduced or transcribed, as there are underlying rights issues and that would be in violation of copyright law.

Now, please sit back, relax and enjoy Malinda Williams' performance of “Black Power” by Bernice McFadden.

Hello, dear Listeners, given all our fall events and the impending November 5th U.S. election, WORDTheatre Weekly will be taking a hiatus from delivering new episodes. We sincerely hope that the immortal words of Martin Luther King Jr. will ring true: “The Arc of the Moral Universe is Long, But it Bends Toward Justice.” So we'll be back sometime after that critical vote in November.
