What is Progress and Perfection?

Recovery themed, Christian flavored daily reflections for those struggling, recovering, or seeking understanding.

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Psalm‬ ‭55‬:‭22

It’s sure attractive to not care.

Not to become callous necessarily but to simply be uncaring and to not need anything.

The difficulty is that apathy approaches us quickly when we have nothing to care about.

Though we may seek to live in a self-satisfied and pallid state of being, it is quite hard to block out everyone and everything without causing offense and harm.

So what? You may ask. Live your best life. Be yourself. Apologize to no one.

Bah. These are idealistic propositions with the power to tear us off course when put into practice.

All have fragments of the truth and pieces of wisdom. But when you bundle them together and block out the world and its people’s considerations you just become a bitter miser.

Lack of care and the hangover of addiction tempted me away from many good things even among many good months of my new sobriety.

The numbness of active addiction gave way to blinding light. If we aren’t careful, we can crawl back into a hole for fear of that light.

It’s plenty possible to be sober and still miserable.

I want light and freedom and renewal. Turns out that took a good deal of work—as most good things do.

God, help me not lose the heart to work toward fullness.
