Nvidia says it has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, bringing one of the central platforms for finding, sharing, evaluating, and deploying AI models into the chipmaker’s orbit.

The scale of that platform explains why the deal matters. Nvidia says more than 18 million developers, researchers, and creators use Hugging Face, which hosts more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications. It also says more than 200,000 companies use the service to discover, evaluate, customize, and deploy AI.

The key question is whether a company so closely associated with AI compute can own a major open-model hub without narrowing the choices available there. Nvidia’s announcement makes an unusually direct pledge: Hugging Face will remain an open platform, Nvidia hardware will not be required to build or deploy through it, and the service will continue supporting open-source and open-weight models, multiple clouds, and multiple accelerators.

Nvidia says its infrastructure and engineering resources can improve reliability, safety, model evaluation, inference, and deployment. For builders, the eventual proof will be whether those commitments survive contact with product decisions. If they do, the deal could give the open-model ecosystem greater scale without forcing developers into one hardware path.

From AI infrastructure at global scale to a much smaller, more private computing environment: the smart-home hub.

At the IFA technology show, Ugreen launched HomeAgent, a smart-home platform that combines security-camera storage, on-device AI, smart-home control, and a voice assistant called Uliya. Ugreen is best known for chargers, power banks, and network-attached storage, or NAS, products; now it wants its hub to become the brain of the home.

The company’s pitch is local-first operation. Its HomeAgent H100 Pro hub combines local storage and on-device AI, allowing people to interact with their smart home in natural language rather than sending every request to a remote service. The Verge notes that Ugreen’s local-first promise comes with some caveats, but the product direction is clear.

That direction is worth watching because smart-home AI has often meant another cloud account, another camera feed, and another set of privacy tradeoffs. Ugreen is betting that storage and computation already sitting in the house can become a more unified control layer. Whether it delivers will depend on how capable the local assistant is and where those local limits begin.

For the research note, a new paper called PatchBench takes aim at an easy-to-miss weakness in AI vulnerability repair: a patch can stop a known proof-of-concept exploit from crashing without actually fixing the underlying security flaw.

The researchers focus on C and C++ vulnerability patching. They identify two ways existing evaluations can overstate agent performance. An agent may reproduce a historical developer patch it has effectively memorized. Or it can alter code on the crash stack just enough to suppress the reported failure, rather than locating and repairing the root cause.

In their analysis, an average of 25 percent of agent-generated patches showed substantial similarity to historical developer patches. Across 11 state-of-the-art agents, including the top three AIxCC agents, the researchers found that validating only against the original proof-of-concept inflated solve rates by an average factor of 1.83.

PatchBench is their proposed alternative. It uses vulnerabilities whose real fixes lie outside the crash stack, then moves historical flaws into new repository contexts and applies code mutations. Its validation checks both security and semantic correctness. The caveat is that this is one benchmark study, but its message for teams evaluating coding agents is practical: passing a single exploit test is evidence of progress, not proof of a secure repair.

OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra rollout ran into immediate access trouble. The Verge reports that paying users expecting the new model were left waiting, and CEO Sam Altman apologized within hours, calling the rollout messy. OpenAI said Astra would initially reach some enterprise customers before expanding to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, as well as the API. For customers, it is a reminder that launch-day availability can be as consequential as a model’s claimed capability.

In San Francisco, members of SEIU-United Service Workers West have voted to authorize a walkout by security workers who guard OpenAI and Anthropic facilities. The authorization does not itself mean a strike has begun, but it raises the prospect of a labor disruption at two major AI companies.

Meta is offering users of its Muse Spark model a discount averaging roughly 95 percent if they contribute to development of future models by sharing prompts and model outputs. TechCrunch reports that Muse Spark is intended for operating coding and other agents. The offer makes the data tradeoff unusually explicit: cheaper access in exchange for allowing usage to inform future model work.
