The podcast that teaches tweens and teens necessary life skills to achieve their goals, develop unconditional confidence, cultivate positive habits and become UNSTOPPABLE in all areas of life!
Hey. Hey. Hey. Hello. Hello.
Speaker 1:And welcome to the Unstoppable You podcast. It's your host, coach Will or at coaching with Will on socials. And this is my weekly podcast where I share bite sized wisdom and action oriented success principles all dedicated to help you crush your goals, develop confidence, and become truly unstoppable in life. So without further ado, let's dive in. In today's episode, I wanna start off with something controversial.
Speaker 1:I feel like stirring the pot today. Are you ready for this? Motivation is overrated. I said it. Motivation is overrated.
Speaker 1:And today, I wanna explain why I think this is the case and what you should be thinking of and focusing on instead of motivation to see more consistent results, and guess what? Better results overall as well. So the reason why I say motivation is overrated is because I see so many people, and I have played victim of this in the past as well. I see so many people waiting to have motivation in order to take action on their goals, when in reality motivation comes directly from taking action on your goals. Let me say that again.
Speaker 1:A lot of people wait for motivation to take action when taking action is the one thing that usually creates motivation in people's lives. So what is going to be a better substitute? There have been so many times in my life where I thought to myself, you know, motivation is the missing piece. It is the secret sauce that I don't have, and that's why I'm not hitting my goals. You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 1:Like, when I was a student, I thought I would just get better grades as long as I was or if I was just a little bit more motivated, or I would go on a run consistently if I just found some some of this mystical motivation mystical motivation that actually has a nice ring to it. But mystical motivation from within that all of a sudden, you know, I would be as motivated as everybody out there who was running every single day. But here's the deal y'all, and here's what I found as a successful business owner myself and also coaching thousands of students and other successful people. It's not the one thing that's missing. It is not the secret sauce.
Speaker 1:Motivation is overrated, and the far better thing to focus on if you're listening to this podcast is momentum. Momentum is the secret sauce, and momentum is the thing that eventually leads to a lot of motivation, probably more motivation than you know what to do with. If you're not someone who is naturally motivated to do things, then you're gonna create momentum in the next couple of months. I already know it. I already know that you're gonna take this podcast and you're gonna apply it to your life.
Speaker 1:You're gonna create momentum, and you're gonna be, like, what the heck am I supposed to do with all this motivation? Like, I don't know what to do with myself. That was somewhere that I got to eventually after creating lots and lots of momentum, and it was a beautiful thing. So the big question now becomes, well, how can we create momentum? Because if I need momentum to create motivation most of the time, not all the time, but most of the time, then how can I actually be intentional about creating momentum?
Speaker 1:And that ultimately comes down to another secret sauce. This is kinda like a a dual secret sauce approach. But if you can focus on being disciplined, that creates momentum. Momentum creates motivation. What is discipline?
Speaker 1:Let's talk about that real quick. And you might be listening to this. You're like, I already know what discipline is. You don't have to be telling me. You don't have to be, you know, lecturing me on what the heck discipline is.
Speaker 1:Let's just kind of, let's kind of summarize it in this one one definition. Are you ready for this? Discipline is following through with action when you don't feel like following through with action, especially when you know that action is going to make a long term benefit. So you're making short term sacrifices. I don't wanna go to the gym, but I'm gonna go to the gym because I know that it's gonna help me down the road.
Speaker 1:It's gonna help create a healthier me, and I'm making a short term sacrifice for a long term benefit. We may have talked about that in Unstoppable You in the past. And so if you are a member or you are currently enrolled, then you may know exactly what I'm putting down right now. But being disciplined with the small things creates momentum for the big things, and when you create momentum, then you obviously have more motivation to play with as well in your life. And so let's give a couple examples, because maybe some of you listeners are, like, well, how do I create discipline?
Speaker 1:Or let's say, how can I just create motivation? Like, what are the things that I need to be disciplined towards? All of those are great questions, by the way, listeners. Awesome. Awesome job.
Speaker 1:Okay. So for me, the fastest way for me to create momentum in my life is to be disciplined with really, really small things. And so my encouragement to you is literally asking yourself, what makes me feel good? And I don't know if you've ever asked this to yourself before, but this is a pretty important question. Like, for those of you who wanna feel better about yourself or about life, then I think it would make a lot of sense, right, to ask yourself, well, what usually gets me to feel better about myself?
Speaker 1:Even if that's, like, once a month, you're like, you're you're watching this or you're listening to this and you're like, I feel good about myself about once a month. Well, I think a good question to ask is, well, what would, you know, what goes into that day of feeling good about yourself? So for me, I have a list of 5 different things that I know for a fact if I do these five things, I feel really awesome about life. I feel awesome about myself, and I feel like I'm creating momentum hour by hour. This isn't even about, like, a day by day thing.
Speaker 1:I certainly feel that way as well, but I'm talking, like, hour by hour, y'all. I know that if I wake up and I, let's say, do some type of writing now this isn't gonna be necessarily for you, but just just know that these are kind of, like, what I call the little victories. The more little victories you can stack on top of each other, the more momentum you will create. Let me say that again. The more little victories you can stack on top of each other, the more momentum you're gonna create for the big victories.
Speaker 1:Okay? So if there's anything that you, get down or, let's say, write down about this podcast, I would say it's that. So big questions. What are your little victories? For me, it's deep work in the morning, and so that's just like taking the first hour to do some type of writing, so writing these types of podcasts, writing Unstoppable You sessions, writing awesome jokes that I usually post on Instagram, whatever it may be.
Speaker 1:So that's number 1. Number 2 is a cold shower. You might be listening to this. You're and you're thinking you are absolutely crazy. That's okay.
Speaker 1:That's one of my little victories. I know that if I do those two things, then I'm building momentum for my 3rd, 4th, and 5th thing, and that is eating an awesome breakfast. K? That is another one is exercising. So if I do those four things, right, by, like, let's say, 10 o'clock in the morning, I know that today is gonna be an amazing day.
Speaker 1:And so I know you guys are in school, so you can't do all 4 of those things. But I'm talking about, like, if you wake up on your first alarm, that's building momentum. If you hop in the shower and you turn it cold at the very last 5 seconds, that's building momentum. If you're brushing your teeth and having a good breakfast, that is causing momentum. And the more momentum that you have, the better results that you see.
Speaker 1:And guess what happens when you see better results? You get more motivated. When you see good results, it's a whole lot easier to be motivated to see more good results than to go from bad results to motivation. So, hopefully, that's all making sense. But in the next week, in the next month, whatever you do, focus on stacking little victories day by day, hour by hour, week by week, whatever you wanna think about it in terms of timelines, and create momentum.
Speaker 1:Let go of the pressure to be the most motivated person that you know. Motivation is overrated. The people that are the most successful, the people who crush their goals in life, the people who are fulfilled and happy are people not that are crazy motivated, but instead people who are actively creating momentum in their lives by stacking little victories on top of each other. So if you have your list of little victories that you wanna focus on, controllable things that you can focus on, then shoot me an email. I would love to hear about the things that create momentum in your life and become your biggest cheerleader on the other side of this computer.
Speaker 1:Because I know that if you are listening to this podcast, then you are somebody who wants to grow. You are somebody who is actively seeking ways to grow, and that right there is gonna make you wildly successful. So, super proud of you if you're listening to this. I think you're absolutely awesome. Go and crush it today.
Speaker 1:Go and crush it this weekend or this week, depending on when you're listening to this episode. And just know momentum is the key, is the secret sauce to success. That is all that I've got for you today. Now if you like today's episode, then you are going to love the unstoppable you app. It takes all the topics that we talk about here and dives in even deeper through weekly sessions, online courses, parenting workshops, daily posts, gift cards, and games, and so much more.

Y'all, this podcast is just a scratch in the surface compared to what our app provides, not only for the students listening, but for you parents as well. It's kind of like one mom said, the podcast is great, but the app really brings accountability into equation. And with my teenager, that's the game changer.
