Welcome to The Sports Hangover Daily, I'm Sadie. Today on the show: Cowboys-Texans nearly broke my watch, the Rams clipped Philly, Eagles backfield waiver panic, and New England made Buffalo sweat. Coffee first. Chaos second.
Cowboys thirty-four, Texans thirty. Dallas won, but nobody gets to call that clean. That was a four-point stress test with a new corner, a leaky defense, and Jerry Jones somewhere making his “I planned this” face.
The Cowboys traded for Joey Porter Junior, sending Pittsburgh a twenty twenty-seven sixth and a twenty twenty-eight second. That’s real capital for a corner. Dallas didn’t whisper it. The secondary wasn’t good enough.
And then Houston still put up thirty.
That’s the part you can’t shrug off. Dallas can celebrate, because in October, surviving counts. But if you trade for Porter, then need thirty-four points to beat Houston, the defense is still on the table.
Porter was expected to have a package and a pitch count after arriving from Pittsburgh. So no, this was never gonna be his full Dallas debut. Fine. But they need him useful fast. Not after Thanksgiving. Fast.
Also, circle Buccaneers at Cowboys next week. Covers flagged that total at forty-seven as a later number to watch. After this game, yeah, I get it. Dallas games feel like a cardio class with shoulder pads.
Around the league, the Rams beat the Eagles twenty-four to twenty. That one hurts worse than the score. Philly lost a close game, and Saquon Barkley left early. Fantasy managers are already staring at waivers like it’s a crime scene.
FantasyPros flagged Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley as waiver names. Bigsby had fourteen carries for fifty-five yards, so he’s the early-down add if he’s healthy. The problem? He also left banged up. Shipley had six carries for twenty-three, and his path is cleaner if Philly needs passing-down work. Not sexy. Useful. Waivers aren’t always champagne. Sometimes they’re store-brand cereal and survival.
The Colts handled Washington thirty to thirteen, and Josh Downs is worth watching in fantasy because Alec Pierce is out. That’s a real role note, not fake “monitor him” noise. If Downs keeps getting target volume, he’s back in the PPR starter conversation. Indianapolis didn’t need a circus. They needed competence, and Washington gave them space.
The Giants beat the Cardinals thirty-six to twenty-four, so the Marvin Harrison Junior trade buzz gets even louder. Adam Schefter listed him among names to monitor before the November tenth deadline. I hate that Arizona is even in this conversation, but I get why teams are circling. If that kind of young receiver is even maybe available, every wideout-needy GM suddenly becomes “just checking in.” Sure, buddy. Very casual.
Kansas City survived the Raiders thirty to twenty-seven, but the receiver room took damage. Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton both got injured, and that matters for fantasy and real football. Rice had usage momentum. If he misses time, Kansas City is back to patching snaps with duct tape and Mahomes magic. Fun for us. Probably miserable for them.
The Seahawks beat the Chargers thirty to twenty-three, and their Week five line is already interesting. Covers flagged Seahawks minus three against the forty-niners as a later spot. That’s a number to watch, not a commandment. Seattle looked sturdy, San Francisco just beat Denver twenty-four to fourteen, and that division is gonna annoy everyone.
One more NFL number: Bears at Packers over forty-three point five was flagged as a now spot. The total is already moving toward forty-four or forty-four and a half. Chicago just beat the Jets twenty-three to twelve. Green Bay edged Tampa seventeen to fourteen. The board is expecting cleaner offense than those scores suggest.
NBA preseason check-in: Jazz one oh nine, Nuggets ninety-seven. Keyonte George had fifteen, Blake Hinson hit four of five from three, and Jokic played only fourteen minutes. Translation: don’t build a conspiracy board. It’s preseason.
NHL corner: Rangers four, Mammoth two. Igor Shesterkin had twenty-eight saves and an assist, because apparently goalies want box-score flair now. Anaheim also beat Florida three to two in overtime after Brad Marchand scored late in his Panthers debut.
The Hangover Take: the Patriots are not cute anymore. They’re a problem.
New England beat Buffalo twenty-nine to twenty-six, and the AFC East should be irritated. The Bills are still the Bills. Josh Allen still scares defensive coordinators into midnight cold brew. But division games are about habits, and Buffalo just let New England walk in and steal one.
That changes the conversation.
For years, Patriots games felt like a weather report. Annoying, maybe ugly, but not dangerous. Now? If they can put twenty-nine on Buffalo and finish it, they’re not just hanging around.
They’re dragging the division into a fight Buffalo thought it already controlled.
My prediction: New England will be in the wild-card picture in December, and Buffalo will hate this loss more than any blowout. Blowouts are easy to explain. A three-point stumble against a division team follows you around like a parking ticket you forgot to pay.
The AFC East is annoying again. Honestly? Kind of beautiful.
That's your hangover. Go hydrate. I'll see you tomorrow.
