Emma Helps a Tourist at the Pharmacy

Emma: Hallo, kan ik misschien helpen? Ik spreek Engels.
Tourist: Oh thank goodness! I've been sick for three days and I don't know what to do.
Emma: Oké, rustig maar. Sinds wanneer ben je ziek precies?
Tourist: Since Monday. I have a terrible fever and muscle pain all over my body.
Emma: Ah, je hebt koorts en spierpijn. Dat klinkt als de griep.
Tourist: The flu? I thought I just needed some medicine from here.
Emma: In Nederland werkt het anders. Je moet naar de huisarts eerst, niet direct naar de apotheek voor sterke medicijnen.
Tourist: A house doctor? I don't have one. I'm only visiting for two weeks.
Emma: Geen probleem. Ben je ingeschreven bij een huisarts in de buurt van je hotel?
Tourist: No, I didn't know I needed to register anywhere.
Emma: Normaal gesproken wel, maar voor toeristen is het anders. Heb je een zorgverzekering?
Tourist: I have travel insurance from my country. Is that enough?
Emma: Ja, dat is goed. Maar je hebt wel je zorgpas of verzekeringspapieren nodig.
Tourist: I have my insurance card in my bag. But where do I go?
Emma: Er is een huisarts hier vlakbij, ongeveer vijf minuten lopen. Ze spreken Engels daar.
Tourist: Can I just walk in, or do I need an appointment?
Emma: Normaal gesproken heb je een afspraak nodig, maar dit klinkt urgent. Het is dringend.
Tourist: It is urgent. I feel awful and I'm supposed to fly home in four days.
Emma: Bel ze dan nu. Zeg dat het dringend is en dat je hoge koorts hebt.
Tourist: What if they can't see me today?
Emma: Als het echt ernstig is, kunnen ze je naar het ziekenhuis sturen, maar probeer eerst de huisarts.
Tourist: The hospital? Is it that serious?
Emma: Nee, nee, waarschijnlijk niet. Maar in Nederland ga je altijd eerst naar de huisarts. Zij beslissen of je naar het ziekenhuis moet.
Tourist: This is so different from home. We just go straight to emergency rooms.
Emma: Ja, dat begrijp ik. Hier is het systeem anders. De huisarts is je eerste contact altijd.
Tourist: Okay, I'll call them. Do you think they'll see me without being registered?
Emma: Voor acute gevallen wel. Vertel ze dat je toerist bent met de griep en hoge koorts.
Tourist: And I should bring my insurance card, right?
Emma: Ja, precies! Je zorgpas is heel belangrijk. Zonder dat moet je misschien zelf betalen.
Tourist: Thank you so much. I was about to go to the hospital directly.
