The European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee have unanimously adopted its position on the use of railway infrastructure in the Single European Railway Area. The proposed Regulation seeks to increase railway capacity and improve reliability by creating an international, digital and flexible system for managing and allocating scarce railway capacity. Although the draft proposal from the European Commission has been generally positively received, gaps have been identified, particularly in relation to user consultation and regulatory oversight. The Parliament has moved in a positive direction in addressing these concerns.

The Municipality of Naples has awarded Hitachi Rail with the contract to supply the new generation of its trains for the Naples Metro Line 6.
Worth €200 million, the contract will see Hitachi Rail producing 22 trains for the line. Trains will carry a capacity of 290 passengers, with a length of 39 meters and coming equipped with Automatic Train Protection.
The trains will be manufactured at Hitachi Rail’s factories in Pistoia and Naples.

The Office of Rail and Road has identified several key areas of focus for the industry as it looks to drive improvement in the delivery of passenger assistance for disabled passengers.

After auditing five operators, ORR conclusions included that the industry should focus on adopting the passenger assist staff app, better coordination, and improving industry systems. The five operators that were chosen as a representative of industry included East Midlands Railway, Govia Thameslink Railway, Greater Anglia, London North Eastern Railway and Northern.
