In a landmark vote for the country, the Welsh Government has agreed proposals to modernise the Senedd and make it more effective.
As the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the devolution of Wales - and the creation of the Senedd – members have voted to pass the Senedd Cymru (Members and Elections) Bill that will work to better represent the people of Wales and give members more scope to scrutinise and hold the government to account. The bill also forms part of the government’s co-operation agreement with Plaid Cymru.
Starting from the 2026 Senedd elections, this will see an increase to 96 members within the Senedd, the requirement for all candidates and members to reside in Wales, and to hold elections every four years.

After being confirmed as the new Scottish First Minister earlier this week, John Swinney has confirmed his new ministerial team.
The Cabinet will feature 11 secretaries, with those being supported by a further 14 ministers, which means a decrease in the size of the government since the beginning of the year. As Deputy First Minister, Kate Forbes will support Swinney, whilst also holding the role of Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Gaelic.
Ivan McKee will also return to the government as Minister for Public Finance after a year.

Cornwall Council has announced that it has approved a new approach to increasing the number of homes that offer care and support for members of its communities.
With housing stock already stretched, the new approach will support those with health and social care needs to access high quality accommodation that offers the right type of care that they require. This will work in accordance with the council’s Supported and Specialist Housing Strategy.
According to the council, research has shown that extra care housing has positive impacts on resident health, with this reducing the number of GP visits, community health nurse visits and ambulance callouts, as well as reducing the amount of time that people might stay in hospital.
