Today is Thursday, June 25. The title of today's devotional is mutual satisfaction on the eve of his death. Suffice it to say this is not what most people would do if they knew they were going to die tomorrow. But going back to this idea that in the kingdom, that all ministry is supposed to be mutual, that we are supposed to find our purpose, our fulfillment and have our needs met while focusing on the needs of others. What that means for for this example is that it's so easy for us to look at this story and go, man, it's crazy that Jesus did that instead of going and getting massage or having a great last, you know, a tasty meal out or or some of the things that we might think of if I knew I was gonna die tomorrow, what kind of thing might I wanna do?
Speaker 1:What might I want to experience? But I think we miss the point and we get the application wrong if we if we miss the fact that I believe that Jesus was doing exactly what he wanted to be doing. I don't think there's anywhere that he would have rather been in that moment than washing the disciples' feet. And the reason for that is because he was they were his disciples and he was discipling them. He had this last opportunity before he went to the cross to to teach and to be an example and to point them to the way that they were supposed to live in his absence.
Speaker 1:But the broader truth is this, there is nothing more satisfying or fulfilling than doing what we were created to do, what we were sent to do, what we are called to do. And in that moment, Jesus was doing what the father had set out for him to do. Jesus was not neglecting his own self care by washing the disciples feet. On the contrary, he was doing exactly the thing that was going to minister to him as he prepared to go to his death because it was what the father had called him to do. Reflect on how you think about this idea of prioritizing the needs of others versus your own.
