Big piece in the New York Times regarding how our cars are reporting bad driving to interested parties.
It’s full of stories of cars and trucks reporting hard braking, sharp acceleration and more. Guess who gets it? Your insurance company which then decides if your rates warrant higher premiums.
It’s called personalized insurance coverage. It’s not new. Some insurance companies offer small plug-in devices—but the major difference is drivers are opting IN.
Much of it is happening via connected-car apps. Remember the long terms of service agreement when you signed up for the app—the thing no one reads? I’m all for safe driving. But this is a little creepy.
