Welcome to Fragraphilia, everyone. This is Jeff.
Jane:This is Jane.
Jeff:And we are happy to be back after a few weeks of time off. Nothing significant, just, you know, you releasing another full collection that did extremely well.
Jane:Yeah. And another round of Henry started school, so I lost my sense of smell, and I think you lost your sense of smell last week.
Jeff:I had a
Jane:weird that we haven't been here.
Jeff:Yeah. I had that weird thing where it's like I couldn't taste salt.
Jane:Oh, yeah.
Jeff:It was like for two days, I couldn't get the sensation of what salt tasted or felt like. Sweet, everything else. I could get like the aroma. I didn't lose my smell or anything. It was just like a weird thing and I was like over salting everything.
Jeff:So
Jane:Oh, yeah.
Jeff:But, you know, that passed and here I am dealing with a little bit of a cold that I'm coming out of, so I apologize everyone if I'm a little nasally or at least more nasally than usual. How are you feeling?
Jane:I'm feeling great, and I've been missing recordings, so I'm excited to We talk have so much to catch up on.
Jeff:We do.
Jane:I don't even know where to begin.
Jeff:But again, you know, I'm looking across the table from my beloved, and you have your wrist braces on because you've been so feverishly painting and packing and doing all the things.
Jane:I'm an artist, Jill. I I couldn't stop drawing and now I've caught my hands in braces.
Jeff:You know, BTS thing about Jane Aldridge, Dashley, is that she does not know how to stop doing anything and she can't sit still. Your mother's very much like that, but the creative brain never stops and even when you are, you know, should be resting your wrist, you're you're bouncing from one creative thing to another and I wish I had that, but, you know, you're just a person that's always on the go.
Jane:Well, luckily, this weekend, we don't have our son. He's going to ride a train with his grandparents.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:And, we get to have fun. So I can't be I can't be in my studio.
Jeff:No. And we are gonna enjoy our lives. We're gonna hang out with friends. We're gonna go out to dinner, and I don't know. Just live that child free weekend we haven't had in a good while.
Jane:Put on some Marlu.
Jeff:Put on some Marloo. Get the weekend started. Kick up some dirt and get crazy. Couple of quick shout outs because way back when, when we last did our episode, we had requested both some incense recommendations, which we're still looking for more, we'd love that, and some roses. And, Leticia, shout out, sent us some recommendations for a shoyido incense from Japan.
Jane:Okay.
Jeff:Which I think actually your old friend, Stevie, once gifted us.
Jane:That familiar. Yeah. Many Christmases ago.
Jeff:But Leticia, recommended moss and so I'm I mean, that's Sold, honestly. Yeah. Then of the roses, we received quite a few. And this
Jane:is not incense, this is just rose Yeah.
Jeff:You were looking for kind of just like a straight good old fashioned
Jane:I wanna know what everyone else's, like, standard go to roses are.
Jeff:And Mara had recommended Magnolia alba by Chloe, the Atelier line of Chloe.
Jane:I always wanted to try those.
Jeff:There's no one around here that has it.
Jane:We can't even get them in The States. Right?
Jeff:I think you can, and I think they're sold at places like Bergdorfs and New York and things like that, but there's no one that I can easily get samples of. There's a cup I've seen a couple decants, but I really I've always been curious. I love the bottles because they have that kind of, like, ripped And you, of course, is a you know, they should be sending that to you. You're early you did all those campaigns for Chloe perfumes way
Jane:years ago.
Jeff:And then I'm going to struggle with this one, but Les Indemodables.
Jane:I've I yeah. I I shy away from that brand just because the name overwhelms
Jeff:There's quite a there's that vanilla, that famous vanilla one that always does really well. I think it's an Antoine Lee or I know Antoine Lee does some of them, but yeah, I don't wanna ever have to say the name. And, but she recommended Rose de Jamal. Shell is the person who recommended. And then, a person after my own heart, Tina, recommended the classic tea rose from
Jane:Perfumers I love that. I haven't smelled it in so long. I haven't. I I can't believe I don't have a bottle of that kicking around somewhere.
Jeff:Girls in high school and junior high would always wear that and it was just kind of like, to me, it just that was such a perfect rose. I love the smell of rose like many of us and that is a true rose to me. And then one more from Venti, who was kind enough to recommend Masked Milano's Hintsugi.
Jane:I mean, I wanna try that one. Yeah. Because I have to say, I've been pretty impressed with everything Masked Milano.
Jeff:Yeah. Are a Masked Milano fan, that's for sure. And then if you don't mind, I I just wanna just for my Byredo people out there that
Jane:Have just love hate relationship. Well,
Jeff:I'm just, you know, I'm a Byredo boy, and I was kinda I was lucky enough to finally get a little sampling or at least I got to sample the Boro Byrito from the one that's Japan only.
Jane:A Boro?
Jeff:A Boro is what it's called and it is a Jerome Epinette. So I know and it's just green, it's woody, there's like I didn't know what I expected, but it is very much an epinette style. I hope that it's available in The States or at least someone gets a decant site or something like that because it's if you're a fan of old Byredo, this is right along those lines because on the flip side, I tried future memories and that was exactly what I expected and it's a definite nope and it I think I told somebody recently that it is oh, it was McKaylee. She had tested it and put a story up and it was like, she was like, this is awful. And, and I said, there there was no indic that is the perfect symbolism of the brand has ventured beyond what it used to be.
Jeff:It was like, it's so big, and it's just like even just smelling the bottle, was like, oh, yeah. Power amber chemicals. It's like so loud. Yeah. It's like I didn't even dare spray it on
Jane:my real private equity luxury scent profile
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:Going around right now, and it's like that.
Jeff:And, I also tried Late Lunch. They have one that was called
Jane:I've never even heard of this.
Jeff:I had seen it in passing or it was announced, but I don't know if it was ever really released, and I apologize if I shouldn't be talking about this and thank you to the person that let me sample it. Not bad, but it's just not anything that and it had like this very ambery, a little bit of a popcorn scent to it to me, but that was kinda cool. But it was kinda neat to try some, you know, secret scents or something like that and
Jane:I mean, I do have to say, I love the name Late Lunch for perfume.
Jeff:That's Yeah. But, man, that Oboro, it had, like, a little bit of the sweetness that you would find in, like, Rose of No Man's Land, which made it kinda cool. But I expected this really, like, dry wood, hanoki style perfume because of, usually, that's kinda where Japan inspired scents go, but it was a little sweeter, and it was just really, really nice.
Jane:When you came home and it was wafting off of your arm, it had, considerable staying power and rejection, And it smelled really beautiful and yeah, it smelled like old school 2011 kind of byredo.
Jeff:Yeah. I agree. Speaking of old school, we were kindly gifted a bottle of Ain't That Sweet by, Diese and Durga.
Jane:Their new gourmands.
Jeff:Shout out, Carys.
Jane:Yes. Oh, wonderful Carys. Thank you.
Jeff:Yeah. I, didn't know what to expect because we are famously, you know, we were ripping on gourmands and and amber bombs like crazy and vanilla accords. I don't know if there's an episode in the last two years that we haven't ranted about it, But for some reason, and it's not just because it was gifted, I I have an affinity for this.
Jane:You wouldn't wear it though, but I would. I will say it like when Cara said, oh, I'm gonna send you our new release and it showed up and I saw the name, I thought, oh, shit. I don't wanna have to be mean about this, but it's actually pretty good. However, I'm gonna say this. I bet a lot of people who got it because I think there are people if you just tell them it's a Gorman, they feel blind by it.
Jane:Yeah. There there's a big consumer base just like that. I bet they weren't happy because it was considerably heavy on, like, the myrrh, amber side of things.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:So the full note list is myrrh, sweets, cinnamon, dates, praline, lily, condensed milk, vanilla, and nutmeg. And it's it's really spicy and incensey.
Jeff:I think it constantly, like, that that amber and vanilla style accord that we kinda talk about a lot, future memories, it's kind of in there somewhere, but it's always toned down and there's a veil of all these kind of really cool, sweet, dense, like you were saying, plus the myrrh, there's those cinnamons and the pralines, it softens so much that it's just kind of like, you recognize it but it never takes it over and I think it for that, it's just kind of fascinating to me and it's just any time we've sprayed it, it always pleasantly surprises me. So it's like, well done.
Jane:And I have to say, like, I love the date note in there. We're we're big date consumers in this household, kind of like the
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:The candy we let our son have.
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:And, you know, I'm always making, like, milky cinnamon oats too, so it did have, like, a very a very homey feel.
Jeff:Yeah. It's very comforting and, yeah, as you you said, it's kind of what you would use as a bedtime scent.
Jane:Yeah. For me, like, it's just never a scent that I would wear out because I don't feel like it represents my personality or how I would want to present to the world. But in private quarters, you know, on my downtime, I I think it would be very comforting. So I think I actually am going to put it by my bedside.
Jeff:Yeah. It fits kind of your your comforting, you are gonna relax kind of perfumes because you vanilla powder's one even though by mixing Is
Jane:it like, is it one that I wear? No. I did it when I was going through something really stressful a couple of weeks ago and you saw that, you're like, oh, you're just like trying to drown out the noise. I'm like,
Jeff:yeah. Yeah.
Jane:If I'm just being so overwhelmed by vanilla powder, I can't really pay attention to anything else going on.
Jeff:But you wore Venet Antique recently too by Byredo, which is kind of in that realm where it's Oh, like
Jane:I forgot about that.
Jeff:Yeah. But it's kind of in those it's not ain't that sweet isn't I wouldn't compare it to vanilla powder in any No. Real It is kind of adjacent to Vanilla Antique, I said. It's not as heavy vanilla as that, though.
Jane:Listen. They all have those, like, big, ambery, sweet vanilla molecules Mhmm. Which you and I were talking about have this interesting thing of being, like, really big and really overpowering, but also somehow empty. It's always like when you smell a composition where that's in the mix, it doesn't necessarily make it a bad perfume. I mean, we've just listed three perfumes that we like that have these, but it it's weird that they can be so loud yet lack substance.
Jeff:Yeah. It's almost like they create more of a sensation in your brain than any type of, like, smell or scent. Mhmm. It's like something that I think I had mentioned, it's kinda like when you learn how they develop, like, Doritos and certain snacks and they trick your brain into never letting you feel like you're full. So they're doing something chemical to your brain to give you this urge to keep eating them and things like that and these kind of amber chemicals and these vanilla they they, I don't know, they give you the sense that you're wearing something and that something's projecting off of you, but you don't know what it is.
Jeff:To me, they always end up smelling like rubbing alcohol.
Jane:Yeah. There's something something weird going on.
Jeff:Yeah. It's like, there's something there. Can't really identify Write
Jane:in. Tell us how those big amber molecules make you feel, and we'll we'll share next time.
Jeff:I do wanna, you know, I I do wanna make one mention because Christina from Dry Down Diaries sent us a little gift pack of all kinds of samples, which is there's tons of great stuff in there.
Jane:Thank you so
Jeff:much, And, sorry again, because I said as soon as I receive that box, I'm gonna put some stuff in it and send it right back. But despite being such a rule follower in all of areas of my life, I am failing and with this part of it, so I need to get her a little because I have some things for her that I've had set aside for her.
Jane:You haven't done your reciprocal packet Okay.
Jeff:But she sent me the new Le Labo city scent shoe or what. I I can't remember what the number of it is, but it's really really good and I really like it and it's had me thinking and I think I brought it up to her, is that of all of those early two thousand to early two thousand ten, like, Beirido, Fredrik Mall, Le Labo, they're the ones that I feel like still just kinda do the same thing. They haven't changed. Like, when I look at Byredo, it's starting to venture off into other, they're doing body mist, they're doing they're gonna go into Sephora, Frederic Mall is I don't know I don't know what I am curious about their new one, but when I smelled that Le Labo, I was like, oh, yeah, this smells like a classic Le Labo scent, and I really enjoyed it. Wouldn't buy it, but, know, I'm not really in the market to buy Le Labo, to be honest.
Jeff:Yeah. Yeah. But I did wanna just mention
Jane:I feel like everyone who probably listens to this podcast is subscribed to Dry Down Diaries, but I mean, Christina, she's gotta be one of the number one stokers of the perfume economy and bolstering new brands.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:She does so much work.
Jeff:Great work and writing. And she's always traveling. Gotta be exhausting. So but so going back into these trends of the gourmands and things like that, that I I don't think will end anytime soon, and I could have my theories on that. But I was thinking about because I always hear people's like, what are the coming trends in perfume?
Jeff:And I wonder if eventually, it's gonna start going kind of, like, younger generations. They're gonna start going for their their mom and dad's or their or their grandparents' fragrances. I feel like perfume's still such a new thing in terms of just
Jane:Everyone being
Jeff:really global pop culture and the zeitgeist and everything like that. I don't
Jane:think it's a new thing.
Jeff:I don't think it's new. I mean, think always people have always but I mean, as far as like it's just being something that's like everybody does now, and it's popular, it's mainstream.
Jane:I think there's, I don't have the data to support this, but I do believe like it's a fact that perfume has more of the market share of luxury goods now than it ever did. Right?
Jeff:Yeah. It's probably because it's more accessible too.
Jane:That's your argument.
Jeff:Yeah. But I wonder if now, because it's always been like, what's new? What's new? Let's get the new thing. Let's go with this trend.
Jeff:Let's stay in vanilla. Let's do the gourmands. Let's do this. But I wonder if at some point, it's gonna transition because now we have more of a back catalog. People have been doing it longer.
Jeff:People have been wearing indie and niche and things like that from the early two thousands and a little bit before, that now, and those people are now having kids, and when those kids get a little older and they wanna wear perfumes, maybe they start going back into the archives like you would, like grunge has, you know, came back and, you know, you start the music scene is now starting to dive into the mid to late nineties.
Jane:Are you talking about Gen Z or Alpha?
Jeff:I don't even know the difference between that, to be honest.
Jane:I mean, Henry's going to be gen alpha, and gen z is people in their, I think it's like, what, 18 to 29?
Jeff:Okay. I would say I'm thinking more of people that are probably like 12 to 16 right now. So what what form parents their identities, and they're starting and they see all the trends in in magazines or online or in TikTok and stuff like that, and it's all kind of like these hyper new releases, I think they're gonna be like, no, to be different, I'm gonna wear what my mom used to wear or
Jane:something So they're gonna wear Clinique Happy or some shit?
Jeff:Maybe. Yeah. Think there's gonna be I think the trend isn't gonna be like a notes profile or a direction that perfume is going in the way that we've known it the last few like, five, six years. I think it's gonna be people are gonna start buying off eBay and Mercari and things like that. Not to get the deals, but because they wanna go back and find something classic.
Jeff:Like you would, you know, if you started listening to, like, I was growing up in the nineties, you know, we listened to like the Stones and Dylan and stuff. We went back to I wasn't listening to an Urbana, that was lame because that's what everybody was listening to. I wanted to listen to Led Zeppelin, you know, or something
Jane:like that. You're certainly not talking about the median consumer or if you are, you're more optimistic person than I am.
Jeff:I don't know. I just think that would be I I think that will be a trend. I do. I think eventually, people are gonna be like, I'm I'm searching out these. They're not gonna be looking for Creed batch numbers.
Jeff:They're gonna be going back and saying maybe, like, finding, you know, old Combe de croissant scents or something like that. Oh, yeah. Know? Or like, you know? Yeah.
Jeff:Yeah. Just I think they're gonna wear what maybe their older brother or sister or yeah. You know, something yeah. That was That their cool aunt wore and it'll be more of that type of trend rather than, like, what's the latest release from this brand that's just launched, and then they keep chasing what's new. I think they may go backwards.
Jane:Well, until Henry's in high school, we weren't gonna be able to do any boots on the ground journalism about this.
Jeff:So Yeah. Just just stick with it. I'm gonna start hanging around high schools and but I don't know. It was just something I was thinking of. I was like, yeah, the perfume doesn't have, I mean, the heads and people that have been doing it for a while will go for those old, you know, someone like Joseph, he's gonna search out.
Jeff:But I think, like, newer generations will get bored with new, just like they did with music or clothes or something like that. They may recycle some old bottles from somewhere else. From like, I
Jane:don't know. Well, you've been wearing opium a lot.
Jeff:I know.
Jane:And it smells really good.
Jeff:It does. It's like it's
Jane:And that is what my mom wore.
Jeff:Yeah. You know? I don't know. Just a thought, if anybody agrees with me, you know?
Jane:Support Chad.
Jeff:Chad, yeah, support me because I I feel very alone right now. Oh, another kind gift that was sent to us from a brand we've been, you know, fans of since the start. Trey with Serviette sent us Immacula.
Jane:Oh, man. I I wanna go grab it right now.
Jeff:Go grab it
Jane:because Because this is a head scratcher of a tuberose. If you like weird white florals, boy, have we got a ride to take you on?
Jeff:I think this perfume is so cool. And I'm not just saying that because I'm biased and I love Trey, and I've been a big fan as we both are of his other scents, but this is, it's a it's kind of a weirdo. It's a to me, it's a Saturday night scent.
Jane:It's a to me, it's like a sci fi dystopian tuberose. You described it as a the tuberose growing between the cracks and the pavement when you're smoking in the back of a bar.
Jeff:Yes. Like out in the back alley with your friends? Yes. Yeah. Because it smells like there's a little bit of cigarette smoke, there's a little bit of, you know, like cocktail sweetness to it.
Jeff:There's a little bit of green and that floral from like hairspray or perfume It's kind of walked a in a hairspray. It has that kind of like frequency that hairspray had, like a a good hairspray smell. Yeah. And it wears I don't know. You're like, you're right.
Jeff:It does have kind of like a future dystopian type of feel to it.
Jane:I've never smelled a tuberose like it. But I wanna say also something that I really appreciate about Immacula is that I feel like if you presented that to me blind and you said you have to guess what brand this is, like, smells like Serviette's other scents. Yeah. Falls right in line. Like, Trey has developed a real scent signature that I appreciate.
Jeff:Yeah. Because he's he's I'll go read the top list. It's ionized steam, pomelo oil, candied ginger, hot asphalt, tuberose, nirvana, and oak wood. And it's like, yeah. That all makes sense.
Jeff:It feels like all of that. And it feels very much like his imagery that he's the photographs and everything that he's, taken for this campaign because it's, you know, high heels and alleyways and it just it feels like that. Feels feels awesome. I love it.
Jane:And I don't know if I said this already, but it is limited edition.
Jeff:It is limited. Yeah. Get it while you can. Yeah. Probably won't be around long.
Jeff:I hope it stays. I should actually ask him like, why
Jane:are Are you testing the waters, Trey? Because I think it's the winner.
Jeff:Yeah. I think this is really really good.
Jane:I think I'm going to wear that, on Saturday when we go out.
Jeff:I think that'd be good. Was about to say I was gonna wear it. Maybe I'll wear it Friday.
Jane:Maybe we can be twins. Yeah. Sometimes we do that.
Jeff:Yeah. We do occasionally. But that brings me to the topic at hand because now we're starting to, until this week, it's pretty much been a hundred, hundred and three every day for about, I don't know, what, six weeks? Yes. In Dallas.
Jeff:We finally like made it down to the mid nineties to low nineties. Sometimes at night, it's even like 78 degrees. It's it's not so bad. So it has us thinking about false sense in our top picks. What we're looking forward to.
Jeff:And speaking of going out, I always lean towards one of my number one going out scents and that's French Affair by X Najillo. Yeah. My one biche.
Jane:What a biche it is. Yeah. That's, I feel like if we didn't live in Texas, you could wear that in, like, maybe the low eighties weather wise.
Jeff:It's just
Jane:too damn loud to wear in heat.
Jeff:Yeah. Yeah. It's, you know, for those that don't know, it's it's kind of like a a sheep. It's a it's rose and patchouli and it's it's not really a screecher for a for a biche perfume, you know? It's it's loud.
Jeff:I'm gonna disagree It's big, but it always kinda stays rosy and patchouli to me.
Jane:It's gorgeous.
Jeff:Yeah. And It's
Jane:like a real black velvet type of feel to it.
Jeff:It does. It's, you know, inspired by the French dandies and it feels very much like a dandy perfume and I feel like a dandy when I'm wearing it. Before I go into more of my list, what are some of the top five?
Jane:You know, like top of mind, Vanilla Virtue, my paraphrase, obviously, it was released in the middle of summer for us. Not a great time to wearing a a spicy smoky vanilla, but as soon as it gets cool, I am going to be wearing that so much. Yeah. Then I've got, you know, my old favorites like what's the Jeuveau one that
Jeff:I love? Oh, psychedelic?
Jane:Psychedelic, yeah. That's a go to. Oud Palau, that's always my Oh, That's my October scent every year.
Jeff:By Diptyque? Yes. You don't have to use that sparingly since it's I know,
Jane:I I actually really do. You know, B and I gi, old classic. Surge. Yeah. I've been wearing actually what's the La Relejuice?
Jane:Yes. The, incense and white floral, it's kinda skanky and gothic.
Jeff:Yeah. It's soapy. Like, it's it feels soapy in the way
Jane:that really strong white florals are.
Jeff:I love that perfume.
Jane:Yeah. A little slutty. I like that. I can't wait to be wearing that.
Jeff:Yeah. You've sprayed it recently. It's just it's on our tray, so it's always kinda there and it just every time I smell it, it's like, man, why did we wait so long to get this one? It's so good.
Jane:And you've been wearing Baudelaire quite a bit. That's made me want to wear Baudelaire.
Jeff:More by Rito.
Jane:December night out.
Jeff:One that I'm really looking forward to is Misfit by Arcis.
Jane:Oh, yes.
Jeff:Yes. I just feel like that is a fall, winter feel like that deserves something more than just like, I'm gonna wear it to the grocery or I'm gonna wear it casually. To me, that feels like this is a special occasion. I'm gonna wear a misfit. It's such a classic perfume structure, it's patchouli forward, but it's very powdery and
Jane:The ambrette's really supporting
Jeff:it too,
Jane:it has like a bit of like dirty skin to it that I love.
Jeff:Yeah. Makes makes you feel rich, just in in fancy. I had Vanilla Virtue as well, I'm so excited to wear that. And another one, Rosamundi by Profumum Roma. Do always feel like that's too strong for the summer?
Jane:Yes, it is.
Jeff:Too dense.
Jane:God, that is beautiful.
Jeff:Yeah. That's just like, that's a I mean, it's a rose obviously, but it's just like, there's something so nutty and earthy about it and kind of like swampy. It's, I don't know, I love that perfume so much. Any others? Oh, Tempo by Diptyque.
Jane:Yep. Yep. All the classics here.
Jeff:Yeah. Boy, we're predictable.
Jane:Alright. It's It's good to have like your go tos that you look forward to every year. I guess the new one in the mix is vanilla Virtu, really. That's my
Jeff:only Yeah. I guess that's the the real main one that we're looking for, but thinking about going out this weekend and what I was gonna wear, was like, oh, yeah. You know, we're not quite in the fall zone yet, but French repair.
Jane:Can we talk about the room sprays we've been using?
Jeff:Oh, yes. Yes. From Aurelia, the newer company, they're out of London and they have these room sprays that the founder was kind enough to message us and say, hey, can I send these to you and you and I are big room spray candle? We like to create a vibe at home. Yes.
Jeff:You know?
Jane:The only other room sprays I've used are HomeCore and Diptique.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:And these will blow the these blow those out of the water, truly.
Jeff:I was quite quite surprised at how I don't even know, they're they're built kinda as she explained, they're built kind of like eau de parfums. So they have that kind of build, they have that kind of weight. You wouldn't wear them as a perfume, obviously. But my biggest thing, I guess, whenever there's like a room spray is you wanna know how long is it gonna last? And these last, like, for a good twelve hours at least.
Jane:Yeah. I'm gonna say twenty four.
Jeff:And they just kinda float in Yeah. The air, like I've sprayed them in my office, which is pretty small. It's like 12 by 12 or 14 by 14, I don't know what it is, but and then as you walk in and out of the office throughout the house, it kinda like carries it through and it creates a nice little bubble.
Jane:If you spray it on one side of the house, I'll smell it all the way on the
Jeff:other side. Yeah. So there's three in the original collection, there's Dedan's, Voile and Etiger Privet. There you go. Etiger Privet, sorry.
Jeff:And, Dedan's is the one that I've sprayed the most, which is kinda Is
Jane:that rose one?
Jeff:It's, no. It's like black currant, lavender, bergamot, jasmine, clary sage, cedarwood, sandalwood, oak moss, ambergris, and musk. So it was like, obviously, that note list is like, okay, you got oak moss and jasmine, it's like, wanna see how this wanna go on a ride with this and see how it goes. But that's the one that I would want like a full bottle of, but recently, we've been spraying this eteger privet, which is to me a lot more of a comfort, kind of softer cashmere type of
Jane:Sandalwoody Yeah. Property. Yeah.
Jeff:You know, it's bergamot and pink pepper, lemon, violet, jasmine, cedarwood, ambergris again, white musk and sandalwood and it just really is soft and I don't wanna say creamy, but it's, I don't know, it feels very warm blanket on the sofa with tea.
Jane:Sounds good to me.
Jeff:I know. So definitely check them out. It's a great little price point because it's, I think, $78 for a 100 ml. Oh, wow. You only need a couple sprays.
Jeff:Yeah, that's very Yeah, it's not strong in any, you know, a lot of times, I think, you know, going back to our original conversation, you talk about bomb, you know, strength and things like that, sometimes that can be exaggerated in in its interpretation but it is it is so well balanced and well done. So again, that's Aurelia. We'll put a link in the show notes, so definitely check that out. And and thank you for sending them because that was a real pleasant surprise. So let's get to Scents of the Week.
Jane:Okay.
Jeff:Alright. You go first.
Jane:Okay. Let me get my I have been wearing Mugue Fleury by Orisa l Legrand quite a bit. That is such a beautiful lily of the valley, and it's got this, like, bitter grassy quality in addition to that kind of classic soapiness. It's so beautiful. I like how, you know, a lot of Lily of the Valleys get, like, really sweet or really feminine, and this just isn't.
Jane:No. Like, there's something kind of somber about it that I really like.
Jeff:It always feels muggy to me. Like, there's just, like, humidity to it that's
Jane:It's moody. Yeah. It's very moody. I love that. So I've also I've gone back to Lustre Lust by L'Egallion.
Jane:I'm back again. I've mentioned a couple times in the last few episodes, like, I haven't been wearing it as much, but, yeah, I've been hitting it pretty pretty hard. Maybe because we've been watching a lot of old movies again.
Jeff:We have been. Yeah. Good ones. What's the the one with Anne Todd, the first one that we watched?
Jane:Shit. It's the David Lean one? Yeah. We just watched The Seventh Veil, which was funny, but okay. Shit.
Jeff:It's like Madeline or something. Madeline. Madeline.
Jane:Yeah. Madeline by David Lean. Man, watch that while it's on Criterion channel. Based on a true story.
Jeff:Oh, yeah.
Jane:Of a Scottish upper middle class girl who murders her lower class boyfriend.
Jeff:Allegedly.
Jane:Allegedly. She was kind of a queen though.
Jeff:Yeah. It's, you know, lots of class stuff and courtroom drama. It's a really, really good movie, and then look into her backstory and what happens after that in her life, you know, go to the Wikipedia page or whatnot because what a crazy life.
Jane:Yeah. She she married a guy she was when she was 75, she married a guy who was, like, twenty years younger and she outlived him.
Jeff:Yeah. Love it.
Jane:Yeah. Her core socialist.
Jeff:Oh, that's right. Yeah.
Jane:Was married to a business partner of William Morris.
Jeff:Yeah. She had a while.
Jane:She lived it up.
Jeff:Yeah. I can't believe the name of more
Jane:like her.
Jeff:Well, save the poison.
Jane:What were oh, where were we even in the show?
Jeff:You were talking about lustre.
Jane:Okay. Yeah. It's great. You know what? Let me just run through the notes because it's even been so long since I've broken it down.
Jane:Red ginger, clementine, cardamom, cinnamon, coriander, pimento berry, jasmine, ylang ylang, tuberose, orange blossom, amber, vanilla, binsulin, tonka, and suede.
Jeff:Originally, you know, like, it was isn't that the one that was kind of associated with Ava Gardner
Jane:some level? It the her personal blend created for her after she was the face of Sordilage in the fifties. This was her personal blend, updated by Rodrigo Flores Rue, my favorite perfumer of all time. Yeah. And I've also been wearing Luna Absolut by Sage and Salt.
Jane:This is gorgeous to wear in the heat, and it still has that kind of heft that I crave because it has, like, the amber and the vetiver. But it's rosy. It's very spicy. It's got cardamom and pepper and lots of bergamot. It's really well balanced and it wears beautifully.
Jane:I cannot stop being impressed by sage and salt.
Jeff:Yeah. Speaking of
Jane:which I didn't even know that you put a Sage and Salt in your Scent of the Week until we printed out our show notes.
Jeff:I know. And I have been wearing Sacred Ember, which is his newest one and that's bergamot, pink pepper and cardamom, tobacco flower. You're gonna see like a theme here with my my sense of the week. Vetiver and patchouli, cashmere, wood, leather, hollow santo, oud, kade. It has all of that and more.
Jeff:It never goes too hard in any of those directions, but it's mostly like this easy, slightly sweetened dry wood incense that just wears like a little veil on your skin and it just it projects just enough. It's never too strong. It's just such a pretty I don't know. It wears, to me, it wears well in this weather as well because of the dryness of it. Mhmm.
Jeff:But it never gets too, like a lot of Palo Santo or things with Oud and Kade, they can get real sharp and real burning and kind of
Jane:This one makes me want to cuddle up.
Jeff:It's It's really it's a very comforting. Yeah. So, I I really enjoy wearing that. Super eight by Sal Prive, which is one we picked up a couple years ago at the conservatory while it was being cleared out, lucky for me. Just kind of like a standards like grapefruit and neroli, pink pepper, ginger, cardamom, smoky incense, sandalwood and leather.
Jeff:But to me, it just feels like the neroli's the star. It gets very speaking of Mugue Flurry, it gets very kinda muggy and it there's there's a dense greenness to it. The wood balances it out it out, keeps it kind of smooth and adds a little bit of dryness to it. But it's just kinda one of those easy, like, it's here. I'll put it on.
Jeff:I'm running around town or doing something and it's just kind of like an easy rip easy wear and I'm grateful I have it. It's like a 100 ml, so I'll have it forever.
Jane:Yeah.
Jeff:Anymore? Yeah. Okay.
Jane:Good. Okay. Never hear anybody else
Jeff:I don't think Yeah. Don't think they have much stateside representation and but they have quite a few really good ones, like, there's one I think called Monochrome that I really like. And finally, another newer brand that we have that sent us a discovery set, gratefully, is Jean Robert. And we received three of his main line, but mainly, we were so excited about the line because he did a collaboration with a book that you were interested in.
Jane:Yes. It's based on The Red Sacrament by Sarah Hinckley. This is a book that I've been really looking forward to it coming out. Sarah is a costume designer, and I think that she kind of started this over the pandemic. And it's about a a troop of theater acting vampires in nineteenth century Paris, and Jean Robert did a perfume to celebrate the launch of it.
Jeff:Yeah. And it's, that's not the one that I have been wearing, but we were excited to get it. But the the perfume that he made in collaboration with that is called Theatre Saint Simone, and that's, it's got dirt and petitgrain, stone candle wax, cistus, frankincense, rosewood, it's got oris root patchouli and vetiver, and it's it feels like old book pages, like when you wear them. Catacombs. Yeah.
Jeff:It really does. It's it's captured well. I don't know. You've been reading the book, so I don't really know.
Jane:Yeah. It's really good. Anybody who likes vampire literature will And even if you don't, you'll like it.
Jeff:But the one I've been wearing quite a bit is patchouli hanoki, and it's bergamot, mandarin, cedarwood, and hanoki, lily of the valley, rose, labdanum, musk, and patchouli. And to me, it's just kind of like this really dry, crisp, woody perfume. Like, there's a little bit of patchouli going on or you get a little bit of like the mandarin citrus up top, but the hanoki really stands out to me and it's just kind of like there's a little bit of floral element, a little bit of that powderiness from the labyrinth. It gives it almost, it's like a soft leather as well, but mostly it's just like this really nice warm but dry Hanoki perfume that, I don't know, I get a real I I really enjoy wearing it. And I think you've been wearing you wore one recently as I
Jane:wore the vetiver one.
Jeff:Yeah. Vetiver Yeah. And
Jane:And that was yeah. It was very quirky and it was a nice summer vetiver.
Jeff:Yeah. So thank you for sending those to us and I just I can't wait to get a full bottle of, the patchouli hanoke. It's really really good.
Jane:Yeah. Classic Jeff.
Jeff:Alright. Well, I guess it's game time. K. Let's get to the game.
Jane:I have just sprayed Jeff his first scent of the game.
Jeff:Okay. I'm gonna say, you know, it's citrusy up top. There's some woody paper like notes. It's a bit a little dusty and which is kinda how I just described Theatre Saint Samal. Is it that?
Jane:No. It's
Jeff:not. Okay. Yeah. I didn't think so. It's not quite the same profile, but it has a lot of those elements.
Jane:It's a bit more round.
Jeff:Yeah. But wow, it really smells like old paper. It's really I don't I mean, who doesn't love that? That's such a good smell. But there's also a lipstick cord.
Jeff:Is there auris in this?
Jane:Yes. It's a big iris scent.
Jeff:Yeah. Wow. This smells like I don't know if I would wear it necessarily. This smells like something I would like to smell you wear. Yeah?
Jeff:Yeah. It's really so
Jane:It's not feminine in any way.
Jeff:No. No. I'm not saying that. It's just not like
Jane:Not you.
Jeff:I don't always go for a waxy auris kind of like, there's a little bit of like, know, makeup in the purse kind of smell. It's leathery too, so going more with that. I, yeah, the citrus of it started so sharp, like it was really up top and now it's kind of it's settled and it's kind of like book leather, Auris, makeup bag. Getting a little bit more woody. This is really nice.
Jeff:It's so beautifully composed.
Jane:I circled buying this at one point, Bret. We when we were trying to make a purchase from the brand. No. Brand we really like.
Jeff:Starting, there's there's a little bit of a I wouldn't say cumin. Oh, I would say cumin.
Jane:No. I mean,
Jeff:it's You gave me a look though.
Jane:Clove, but it smells cumin y to me. It's like there's something Yeah. Dirty musky
Jeff:is going on. It's starting it's really cool how it just kind of started to pop up through the other notes, like it's
Jane:I was waiting for you to get around to that side.
Jeff:Okay. Alright. So now I'm starting to really like this because it has like cool layers to it.
Jane:I'm telling you, like, I thought we kinda needed a bottle of this at one point and now I'm thinking
Jeff:It's starting to smell like something we, now I'm gonna say, like, why didn't we? That's my question. Did it just get lost in that's the how
Jane:we ended up buying and it's like, yeah, we love that perfume too, so
Jeff:Okay, I really like this. And, yeah, going back to just to double down on this is, like, by saying I would like you to wear it is definitely not like a, you know, it's not a gendered comment by any mean or anything like that. It's like
Jane:each other's human blotters. We've decided We're
Jeff:each other's human blotters. And and, you know, there's just things I love smelling on you and this is something I think would fit that category. Okay. You gave me the note list. When was it actually done?
Jane:Okay. So it's the brand launched in 2014 and they said this was their second fragrance, so I'm assuming sometime around there. The perfumer is Ralph Schweiger. And I wanna say this because he wanted to make an a contemporary interpretation of iris without referencing its most well known olfactive expressions, particularly number Chanel number 19, which he calls the benchmark of iris based scents and an unsurpassed template sets its watch in 1971. So he's laying down the gauntlet.
Jeff:Yeah. Well, I mean, to me, they're very different because, know, this doesn't have the aldehyde. No. It's it.
Jane:You know, it's obviously he was trying to make something very different. But, yeah, it's it's really beautiful.
Jeff:It's really beautiful. Yeah.
Jane:This is Iris Nazarena from eighties, Dave Venustas.
Jeff:Okay. Yeah. This is really what are they have such a puzzling line because they have all these scents that are kinda like something but different, you know. It's just kind of like when you smell Signature, which you bought for me, it's like it's kind of like a cologne but it's not. And it's in some of their other perfumes like, what's this?
Jeff:Siege de Leon? Siege You de know, it's like, it's it's kind of like this, I don't know, sweet, cardamom y, incense y perfume that kind of it, but not. And it's just, it's kind of, wow, this is really good.
Jane:It's it's a very solid iris perfume. And I'm not a big iris girl either. So I think the fact that you and I are both like Yeah. Kind of blown away by this.
Jeff:I think it's kind of the spicy base notes. I know. Like that that's really winning it for me.
Jane:And the musk is very addictive.
Jeff:Okay. Your turn.
Jane:Okay.
Jeff:I have just sprayed Jane's first entry into the game, and I'm so excited to see how you feel about this.
Jane:This is already a wild ride because when I first smelled it, it's like spilled Coca Cola leather and cow shit. But then it's kind of like there's this kind of beautiful, maybe floral woody element rising above it, and then there's something citrusy kind of dancing at the top. It's really interesting. It smells different now. There's something really dirty.
Jane:Yeah. Something really dirty and funky that, you know, obviously, that's our thing, apparently.
Jeff:I'm gonna read you a little bit about it.
Jane:Please.
Jeff:You know what? I'm gonna give you it's it's hard. I don't wanna give it away, so to speak. This is a new perfume from a line that we really, really like. It's a bit of a it's not I I guess it's kind of a collaboration, but I don't know if it's limited necessarily.
Jeff:It comes in a different bottle. It's a smaller size. Good price point. Came out this year. Here are the notes.
Jeff:Or unless you wanna try and guess them.
Jane:I mean, I already kind of
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:Gave the vibes.
Jeff:It's bergamot, sweet orange, lemon, cinnamon, marzipan, cardamom, nutmeg, jasmine, lavender, violet, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka, opapanox, chewy, castoreum
Jane:Yeah.
Jeff:Synthetic version, and musk.
Jane:Cinnamon's hitting hard.
Jeff:Oh, yeah. When I first started testing it, it was like, it it just went in waves of different things and it just got better for me each time.
Jane:It's it's really earthy.
Jeff:It is the perfect night out bottled. It's a fragrance collaboration from this brand in East London Lesbian Bar and Cafe, La Cheminera. Cheminera.
Jane:Okay.
Jeff:In some of the a step into the street, taste the cool tang of stainless steel and lemon, go in deeper and leave London behind. It's a room full of strangers. You're a bull in a sweet shop of possibilities. And the garden, a tiny patch of eternal sapphic summer cloaked in a heady scent of night blooming jasmine.
Jane:Perfect for all the lesbians on my Christmas list this year. That's, so great. What a great concept.
Jeff:And this was I've been so wanting to try it and sample it since it came out, and luckily, when I was going through the box that Christina had sent us, there was a sample in there of it. I was like, holy moly. Didn't even notice that.
Jane:That's really good.
Jeff:This is it's called after the name of the bar, La Camionera by Jouissance.
Jane:Oh, hey.
Jeff:Yeah. It comes in this little bottle. It's 15 milliliters. It's $87.
Jane:Man, I want everything by Jouissance.
Jeff:Yeah. I, you know, they were I was seeing some images of a potential new release like in the Yes.
Jane:Line So that is that's not this one.
Jeff:It's not this one and I can't remember the name of it now but I should have got a screen grab of it and I had written Sherry and asked her like, is this new and she was like, it might be. So it's like, oh, alright. But it was in like, it was in its proper bottle with a proper label and all that stuff so and I can't remember. It had something to do with, like, late night or after hours or something like that.
Jane:I mean, I I'm gonna say, like, this smells so much like warmed skin and nature that it's really hard for me to contextualize it in a nightclub setting, but that doesn't tamper my enjoyment of it whatsoever. I love that it that's its origin.
Jeff:To me, it feels very floral and leathery and then it has that cashmere inside to it, like that musk. And, so I I really I was I was a little warm when I started seeing, like, the notes, the vanillas, the tonkas, the cardamom, marzipan, I thought it was gonna be a little bit sweeter and cakier than I
Jane:would It's normally that's there. I smell that in it, but it's very Yeah. Rooty and sweaty and,
Jeff:yeah. Smells Yeah. Like perfume It's it's got a whole, you know, the whole Jasmine side of it comes through very much. It's it's beautiful.
Jane:I I could very much interpret this as somebody's natural skin scent. You know, some people's skin smells kinda sweet. Yeah. That that this is what this smells like to me. It's very intimate perfume.
Jeff:Yeah. I really like it. You you like it a lot?
Jane:I'm I'm super into it. And, if this is what this is one of their recent collaborations, I can't wait for the other one that they're putting out.
Jeff:Yeah. There there hasn't I mean, there's only been four with this included and I like all four of them.
Jane:You said this comes in a smaller size. What do you know what many
Jeff:15 milliliters. 15 milliliters. About $87. Okay. A little I feel like a little bit goes a long way.
Jeff:Yeah. Yeah. For sure. So Cool. I don't know.
Jane:Thank you, Christina.
Jeff:Yeah. Wow.
Jane:Okay. Great for that experience.
Jeff:Second one per per me, please.
Jane:Okay. I've just sprayed Jeff his second scent from the game.
Jeff:See, perfumes like this, it's like, I I smell it and it's like, why would I even need another perfume? This is perfect. Wow. It's it's got all that to me, it just, I don't know. I I guess I'm as old old school in the way that when I smell an old school style perfume, it just feels right.
Jeff:It just feels this has a little bit of a a sweet cola vibe at the top, but it's real kind of Man, there's like patchouli, there's musk, it's like civet musk. It's very floral, but it's kind of like gardenia, geranium type of floral.
Jane:Oh, I totally get that side of it.
Jeff:It has a little bit of musk ravageur to it by Frederick Maul. It's enveloping. There's a little bit of like, almost like a mentholated side to it. This smells so good. Yeah.
Jeff:I I mean I almost just wanna be like, here's my here's my card. Just buy it and send it to me. I don't even wanna know what it is. I just I'll wear it.
Jane:I know you would. Yeah. Wow. I knew I was baiting you putting this in the game.
Jeff:There's like, what are the spices? Are they listing spicy notes?
Jane:The note list is very spare on this one. The only listed notes are patchouli, angelica and starnies, so
Jeff:Okay, starnies. Yeah. Yeah. You get that. It's, oh, this is good.
Jeff:It's woody, it's floral, it's leathery, it's musky, it's it's got all the above, yeah. I mean, considering it only has three notes listed, it's it's it probably has so many, I don't know, like, by today's standards, it would have 20 things in the note list. I mean, it may be new, is it new?
Jane:I actually, I don't think so. I It's I try not to go on Fragrantica anymore, and they're they're always the ones who list the notes. And sometimes on perfume websites, they'll tell you what year it came out, but not usually. This is Olivia Jacobetti, and I do believe this is an older scent from the line.
Jeff:What's the line?
Jane:The Artisan Perfumar.
Jeff:Oh. And what's the actual one?
Jane:Voodoo absinthe.
Jeff:Oh, gosh. I think I had this in the game not too long ago, or maybe we smelled it or something like that?
Jane:You I think, like, we were at Neiman Marcus and you were into it. Don't think we've had this in the game.
Jeff:I don't know but, yeah. This is I love this perfume.
Jane:Yeah.
Jeff:Yeah. This is a really good one.
Jane:Good. I'm so glad
Jeff:You that know?
Jane:I guess, I'm sorry, Iris Nazarena. This is heads above that for you even though Iris
Jeff:Oh, yeah. This is leading the pack because I would wear the hell out of this. I would wear it all the time. Yeah. So okay.
Jeff:Now on to the second one for you. I have just sprayed the second scent for Jane and just a little behind the scenes thing is usually, you know, we spray it for each other, we pause recording, we smell it for a few seconds, you know, get some initial thoughts and then we say we're ready and you were like so silent and you were just like smelling it so carefully, you weren't even looking at me, you were just kind of like living in it for a second and it's like, it's usually, I don't know.
Jane:You know, sometimes fragrances can conjure some memory from the very distant past.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:And this did for me and I can't. It's probably because it's there's something like very glam, very old school. Like, it smells like, you know, a big loud eighties perfume. Like, I can't think, like, maybe Giorgio, you know the one I'm talking about. Yeah.
Jane:Like that, but there's also something like honeyed and spiced and leathery going on underneath.
Jeff:Oh, I'm just getting it over here. Wow.
Jane:It's really gorgeous. It's it's woody but it's very floral. I gotta say, like, I've I've can't compare this to anything. This is very unique.
Jeff:Yeah. It's starting to take over the room and Yeah. It definitely, very floral, very woody, very ethereal and like, I don't know, there's something transcendent about it.
Jane:Kinda vampy. This is like black pencil skirt Oh. Skyscraper black pumps.
Jeff:Nice.
Jane:It's very sexy and kinda like aggressive too. No. Comes at you a little bit in like those eighties powerhouse perfume kind of ways, but it's not that because there's something there's something weird happening here too, where it's kind of like musky and Brett, cumene leather side. I'm not sure if that's what's going on at all.
Jeff:Well, I'll give you the Please. It's got cypress, idelweiss Yeah.
Jane:That makes sense.
Jeff:Rose, jasmine, and I smell the rose big time. Frankincense, vetiver, Himalayan cedarwood, and pink salt.
Jane:What a weird perfume.
Jeff:And it's kind of inspired by so it says, like, a mineral breeze evokes a sense of crystalline purity. The pink salt of Punjab sets against the delicate blushing blooms of rose petals like a glint of moonlight on the minor skin.
Jane:I guess, like, the salt makes sense what was confounding me so much. Yeah. Because it my brain wasn't registering it as salt, but that's kind of like that mineralic funk that's happening underneath. But the rose and jasmine are big, loud, and glam.
Jeff:That yes.
Jane:Really interesting, really interesting perfume.
Jeff:The rose is so gorgeous. Like, it feels watery but not too watery. It feels it it feels like a true rose. It's not trying to be too sweet or anything. It's just it's right there.
Jane:I mean, this is just like, this composition inspires me. It kinda like stretches my brain to kind of like, I've never smelled anything like this. I'm kind of having to create a new category of perfume in my head right now. The the mineralic floral, it's so interesting.
Jeff:Yeah. It does. It feels there's a coldness to it too.
Jane:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It reminds me of, like, plein air painting or something.
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:Love it.
Jeff:So it's 2023. It's Bertrand Ducatore. So, you know, he's
Jane:Goated.
Jeff:Yeah. He's goated, sure. It's Loon by Hima Jomo. Say that again. Hima Jomo, we've we've had their scents on here before.
Jeff:Can you h spell m a space Jomo, j o m o. They're kind of like East Moon? French perfumery, but also influenced by like Himalayas and
Jane:Okay.
Jeff:You know, that type of stuff
Jane:and Lune like the moon?
Jeff:Lune like The bird? The bird. Oh, cool. Yeah. Yeah.
Jane:We thought we saw Lune the other day.
Jeff:I know.
Jane:I love Lune or a perfume name, that's cool.
Jeff:And they they I love their bottles.
Jane:This is really great. I really
Jeff:Another another Christina gift. So
Jane:Wow. Christina.
Jeff:This is sponsored by Dry Dive.
Jane:Yeah. Our perfume fairy godmother, she's bringing the hits to the game today.
Jeff:Yeah. This is I didn't know how to place it because I feel like all three of my game picks are just top notch this this time. I mean, they're always top notch. Let's face it. I'm good at it.
Jeff:But I felt like these were all strong contenders and it was I was curious to see which one you would pick over the others.
Jane:It's gonna be really hard. Yeah. Going to be very hard.
Jeff:Okay. Final one for me.
Jane:Yeah. I have just sprayed Jeff, his final scent of the game.
Jeff:Man, this feels like 2011 or something. It has this kind of nice powdery, almost barbershop quality to it. It's not as sharp, like the the citrus isn't there that you would normally associate with like a barbershop perfume or maybe even like a cologne. It's more of that paper accord. It's soft and there's like a cashmere inside to it, like a woody musk skin scent.
Jeff:But I don't know. There's like a vetiver in there or something. Some kind of like green woodiness in the base. It's an easy wear, like this is just something you could wear in any occasion. You would smell good.
Jeff:You'd smell clean. You would smell refined. I really like it. It's kinda like, I think, it's the type of perfume that I would've probably really been like, oh, this is gonna I'm getting this, I'm gonna wear it a lot.
Jane:You'd have bought it at It boutique.
Jeff:Yeah. This is yeah. You know what? That's a good we bought Loblio by Meiofuciani at If.
Jane:And if you don't know If, it's a boutique in Soho that's been there for a jillion years owned by two really cool Lebanese sisters, and they have, like, very artsy gothic clothing and, great perfume selection too. Yeah. I bought my first ever Comme des Garcons perfume there.
Jeff:Oh, wow. Yeah. This is this is very Loblio by by mail. That kind of like, it's it's just got this kind of papery woody skin mossque accord to it.
Jane:Interesting that you say that because the concept of this is scent as ink and skin as paper.
Jeff:Okay. Yeah. I mean, it's very much like that. I feel like it would probably not last very long. Like, you'd wear it for a couple hours and have to either reapply or move on to something else.
Jeff:It's not gonna it's a very, like, close to proximity scent. Mhmm. It's something you, you know, only the people closest to you physically would would know you for.
Jane:And it's a Chinese house, so that kind of makes sense. It's perfumes are much more subtle.
Jeff:Yeah. It's very it's restrained but it is beautiful, like it's very all the the layers are blended well, nothing's trying to, you know, sometimes, a certain note's trying to pull it in one direction while another note is kind of like offering a contrast trying to pull it and there's a little battle going on, there's none of that here. It's just like, it just layers Very on
Jane:clean composition.
Jeff:Kinda like a linen in the in the, you know, you're you're going to make your bed and you do the unfurling of the sheet and it kind of just does that wispy little wave and lands softly onto the bed.
Jane:Paint a picture.
Jeff:I am painting a picture. That's how it feels. This would be a great detergent. I want my Yeah. You know?
Jeff:Yeah. I would want this even over Deeba.
Jane:Woah.
Jeff:Yeah. Those are are strong words. That's how much I like the smell of it.
Jane:Get a mansion
Jeff:out of Do you know the price point of this?
Jane:I actually don't. This is another kit from Christina. This is really her episode. Thank you, Dry Down Diaries, for recording this podcast.
Jeff:You know, we probably have 2,000 samples, I bet. Would say, somewhere along those lines. As anybody who has a lot of samples, like a lot of probably listeners do, influencers or a lot of people in the perfume community, they get hard to manage.
Jane:Especially when you have a little toddler
Jeff:It's going in or hard to like, keep them in alphabetical order and little things. So, our, you know, you if we get a bunch of new samples, chances are the game's gonna be from them. So because it did, like, dig through all Yeah. The other Exactly. But, man, this is really really good.
Jeff:It's it's I mean, who would be I would I think the only things I would say is, like, I wanna know the price point. If it's, like, $1.60 or below, yeah, you get it. If it's something that's, $2.80, no. Because I'm telling you, this is gonna disappear in two hours and you're gonna feel a little bit like, damn, I paid $280
Jane:for Well, you don't you don't know that yet. You gotta put it to the test.
Jeff:But if it was a $160, I'd be like, hey, this is a great buy for 50 ml.
Jane:Okay. So I'm looking up the price right now. Do you wanna know who the perfumer is
Jeff:and and everything?
Jane:The perfumer is Frank Vogel.
Jeff:Oh, okay. Well, very
Jane:classic. The notes are kumquat, incense, incohord, lotus flower, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli, ambrette, white musk, and amber.
Jeff:It's, I mean, it's very much a frank vocal. Like, it's it's understated but beautiful, well composed. It's not overly aggressive. It has his signatures.
Jane:It's a 150 pounds.
Jeff:Okay. So that's what, like, that's like about $2.80, right? Yeah. Yeah. Oh.
Jeff:Okay. Who's the house?
Jane:This is a aroma? It's like the word aroma with a g and then there are some Chinese characters that I I'm not gonna be any help there.
Jeff:I mean, wow, that's pricey. I wonder yeah. How many is it 50 ml?
Jane:I'm trying to look up the ml. Doesn't say. I can't tell you that right now.
Jeff:Yeah. Because pounds is always almost double the dollar, so and lord knows the dollar's tanking now. My god.
Jane:Make America great.
Jeff:Yeah. Plus, you know, sounds like we'd have to import that. It's just skyrocketing as we speak.
Jane:I can't stand all this winning.
Jeff:I know.
Jane:Think it's
Jeff:Plus, I might have to put a $6 gallon gas in my car to drive to the store.
Jane:Hold on a minute because Aromag also has a perfume called Wild Garlic.
Jeff:Okay.
Jane:You've got my attention, and that's a $185, American dollars for 50 milliliters. That includes taxes and duties. I'm trying to see if I can find incense if that's priced differently. Maybe you just don't know your pound conversion.
Jeff:That is blasphemous. I know my
Jane:It's a $185.
Jeff:Okay. Alright.
Jane:In g m l.
Jeff:Okay. So maybe there's we were seeing something else. But, okay, $1.80? Alright. I'd go for that.
Jeff:It's got a nice smokiness to it too. It's nice.
Jane:Yeah. You
Jeff:know, like an
Jane:incense I like that it's a very tidy, sharp composition. Yeah. And I
Jeff:Well balanced.
Jane:Being an artist, I can never resist an ink or art supply inspired scent.
Jeff:I'm gonna okay. I'm I'm gonna spray your third one now.
Jane:Oh, I forgot I had one more.
Jeff:I'm a little torn, to be honest. Like, I like the the Lardison Parfumur, the absinthe one, but kinda charmed by this one.
Jane:Really?
Jeff:I am. I really am. It's like such a nice pleasant wear. Yeah. And I'll explain, when we get to our favorite of the night but I wanna I wanna give you your last one, so hold on just a sec.
Jeff:I have just sprayed Jane's final scent of the game.
Jane:This is a very, the fragrance of a very handsome man.
Jeff:Oh.
Jane:It's like lemony after shavy, a touch of Abercrombie Fierce.
Jeff:Oh, yeah.
Jane:Not derogatory. That's only a plus. Yeah. It's it's piney and fresh. It would never be overpowering, but if I, like, got close and smelled this on somebody, it would smell so good.
Jane:Like, would love to this is a little almost too basic for you.
Jeff:Oh.
Jane:But it's it's something, I don't know, I could see you wearing.
Jeff:I have I've been wearing it off and on the last week and I I really I like it and it's just kind of like a nice hoppy fresh green scent.
Jane:Okay. What is this? We we've gotta go pick up our son
Jeff:at school one second. Well, let me just well, we have a little minute a few minutes here, but it has Szechuan pepper, orange, neroli, geranium, lavender Oh. Cedar, patchouli, and vetiver. So it's like all the
Jane:Neroli, geranium, lavender. That's eaten all over.
Jeff:But it smells so like, there's something about it that's just a little different. Like, has this real punchy green, gets a little dewy and then the kinda it really settles into the base, so it really starts to become like a cedar patchouli scent. But you like it? Smells like it.
Jane:I really like it. Yeah. It's really good.
Jeff:So it's La Verre by Tappan Fragrances, another Christina scent. She sent us a whole sample set of those. Look for those in future games. It it's the founder of this brand is James de Givenchy
Jane:Oh.
Jeff:Who is the son of
Jane:Hubert?
Jeff:No. It's it's it's Hubert's brother.
Jane:Gotcha.
Jeff:Yeah. So it's the son of Hubert's brother, and his father
Jane:Did Hubert have a love child?
Jeff:Was he ran the Fragrance Division for Givenchy for a long time. That's he's kinda like grown
Jane:It's settling down and this is really nice and balanced.
Jeff:It's beautiful and the bottles are like, they're like these cast glass, like, these real chunky round bottles, different colors, they're like pebble glass. They're really weird. It's like I had no idea when I was first looking at them that it had such a rich heritage, you know, Gibbon chi connection.
Jane:It smells it's getting better and better and it's becoming like, it's coming into focus.
Jeff:But it has three perfumers, which always makes me curious. It's like, who dropped out? How does
Jane:that how does that work when that happens?
Jeff:It's Pascal Guerin, Yves Kassar, and Dominique Ropian. So it's like, one of those guys, all three of them are great. So it's just kind of like, how does that 2022. So I I was trying to look into like, what's going on here, but it's $380.
Jane:Oh, good goodness.
Jeff:Yeah. I was looking up like, reviews of it and all that kind of stuff and it's like, all Rob Report reviews and stuff, it's like, of course. Yeah. So
Jane:I'm good on $380.
Jeff:Yeah. It's not $380 worth. Yeah. But it's a really good person.
Jane:Maybe if you're like a really great oud, a tar, but not for not for like a fresh geranium gnarly.
Jeff:Yeah. I agree.
Jane:That's silly.
Jeff:Okay. That's that's the end. So if you had to pick your favorite
Jane:I'm gonna go number two. Lune. Remind me the house's name.
Jeff:Hima Jomo.
Jane:Hima Jomo. Mhmm. Hima Jomo's Lune. Check that out, people. That is I've never smelled anything quite like it and I am captivated.
Jane:How about you? So many contenders.
Jeff:I think I'm still going to lean faux to absinthe, but I really like this kind of this Frank Vogel composition by the one
Jane:You kinda like went on a journey with it.
Jeff:I think it's really good, but is it better than Loblio by Male Puccianna? I don't know. Kinda the same perfume. I find them very similar. But I will say this, it's already fading so much on the paper that I feel like it'll do the same on the skin, so I want something that's gonna last a little that's gonna be unique but also last a little longer on skin because I already have perfumes that kinda smell like this.
Jeff:I love it. So, I'm gonna go with Fodip Dapsynth.
Jane:Okay. Iris Nazarena's just wasn't ever in the running. But you like it a lot.
Jeff:Oh, I like it a lot. But yeah. I mean, Faux D'ep Scent was just like, man, this is a this is a perfect me scent. And then this final, the third one was, I liked it. It was cool.
Jeff:It was, you know, it was really well done. It was surprising. It was one I'd never heard of so it had a uniqueness factor. So, yeah.
Jane:Alright. It's time to go get the boy.
Jeff:Let's go get this child
Jane:this podcast.
Jeff:Great, great to be on the on air again.
Jane:Yeah. Yeah. We missed this. Sorry we were,
Jeff:And everyone, thank you for all your recommendations. Dry Down Diaries is sponsored by this episode. So everybody, thank you for the gifts for one and then also everyone
Jane:Dry Down Diaries. Also, please tell us how you feel about the big amber vanilla molecules. I actually really, I really do wanna know.
Jeff:Yes. And, you know, feel free to say, yes, Jeff, I agree with you on the trends and people going back for vintage perfumes. Alright. Till next time.
Jane:Bye.
Jeff:Bye.
