But more importantly, the It's time for subgenre subhumans.
[Music]
It's a list.
That's right. Subgenre sub human sh.
Humans.
When we talk about movies.
For forever.
Uh top ten movies of some subgenre or other. I am Richard.
Mark is here. Hi Mark.
Hello Richard, how are you?
I'm good. Um, for some reason my nose is itching, so it must be vampire season.
Oh I like how you slipped into share for a minute there. I was very excited. I thought we were just gonna do subgenre subhumanist share.
Oh I wish.
Wonderful.
All right.
Lietta Leeta was talking about her the other day, about her range as a singer.
She's like, Yeah, she does those three notes really good.
Oh
It's all about the attitude, Mark.
Oh.
Oh it doesn't matter.
No, if you've got a Bob Mackey outfit on, you'll do fine.
Oh boy. Uh so yeah folks, this time around uh we are talking about Uh nineteen seventies Vampires.
Uh oh in movies.
And uh maybe this is our Halloween episode. Boo.
Boo.
Well, I mean, I hadn't thought of it.
And happy birthday.
And happy birthday to mister Pumpkin to mark.
Yep.
I still can't believe your birthday is on Halloween. That's so cool.
Uh that's like the coolest thing about me.
Downhill.
So many cool things about you. Uh my buddy Matt, uh he's a old time A librarian pal of mine, he is also a Halloween babe.
Oh, that's cool.
You're way spookier than he is.
Well I try.
He's like the least spooky Halloween baby ever.
But uh yeah, so
That's what we're doing. Uh we had a little um
a little whoopsie on my part. I was like, Yeah, top ten vampire movies.
And then I was I was compiling my list and noticing that my uh Lists.
Banned like Six decades was like Wait, should we split this up?
So like
Like half an hour before we recorded, I was like, Mark, let's just do Let's just do the seventies ones.
Which is good. It keeps me from talking about forty five movies in the next hour.
Yes, true that.
Yeah.
So yeah, we're just gonna go ten to one and hopefully We'll stop on Sixty nine, dude.
[Silence]
I don't know why I said that.
Uh
I don't know what I don't know what compels me.
It's probably your sweat band and that crop top that you're wearing. I think that it's you're just in that that space.
Again, I apologize everybody for this not being a video podcast.
I'm leaving you hanging, bruh.
Yeah, bruh.
So as usual, I defer to the the co-host uh to start. Mark, what is your Tenth number ten.
All right, so My number ten.
I had to go with uh nineteen seventy two's the Night Stalker.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
Which I g I hope that counts because it kind of is a segue into a T V show, the the the Kolchak Uh Karl Kolchak, uh
T V show. But I loved it so much. Um Director John Llewellyn Moxie, he brought this to m to me and uh
He's no Ernest Borden, but it does have Darren McGavin and he's kinda cute too in his own like grumpy old man way too. So yeah, I I just it's
One of my faves. Uh it does Vegas really well, even though I like don't really have an association myself to Vegas, but like I like how Vegas looks in the film.
Nice.
Yeah.
Nice. I am a fan of that. I I enjoyed that very much.
Oh nice.
I have the uh the Night Stalker um uh The the series.
Oh yeah, yeah.
I have that series. I have not dug into it yet, but I am excited.
It's very X Files before the X Files.
Yes, yes.
Yeah. Love it.
So what's your number ten, Richard?
Uh my number ten years.
Is uh vampires with a why?
From nineteen seventy four.
Um, this is a movie that I recently discovered.
Um my old DVD is disc rot.
Oh, hooray.
Okay.
Uh this is this movie's hard to find right now, so I just went ahead and uh replaced it with a burned copy.
I was like, here's a DVD R in in the case. Very nice.
Oh but this is from Uh Jose Ramon La Raz.
One of our
superstars of this show. We are very big fans of his work.
And uh Yeah, so it's about some uh S some vampire ladies who are are very mean.
And uh but also very sexy.
They like to uh keep their prey happy.
Bye.
Giving him loving. So there's a lot of sex scenes in this movie?
I mean
But yes, uh it's stars.
Uh Marianne Morris and ooh, this last name's gonna be amazing.
Diziubinska.
Maybe.
Hãy subscribe cho kênh La La School Để không bỏ lỡ những video hấp dẫn
She did a lot of a lot of Love Boat episodes, I remember that.
Are you serious?
Oh, yeah.
So cool.
That'd be a good thing.
That'd be so cool.
Yeah.
Oh my God. It also has uh Sally Faulkner, Murray Brown, some other people in it.
Um but yeah, this is this is just a wonderful, wonderful movie.
And if you scroll back far enough in my Instagram account, you will actually see me Duplicating the two women in the film.
Folks at folks at home who haven't heard this story, that's how I met Mark was Um I was selling him wigs.
No, no.
No, I I saw Mark on Instagram cosplaying as Joan Collins, I believe an empire of the ants?
That's...
No, it was uh not a uh the ba I don't wanna be born.
I don't want to be born. I'm sorry. Well now you have a new one you have to do.
Right. Oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
Just get some giant puppet ants.
Oh yeah. This was written by La Raz with Diana Daubeny and Thomas Owen.
That's all they worked on as far as writing stuff goes, really. Mainly this was uh
Whereas joint.
Joint.
And it's perfect for fall.
Um or or early winter, it's very cold.
Yeah.
Um, called like these vampire ladies' hearts.
It's and I don't I mean this in the best possible way. To me it's very Euro sleas.
Oh dude, yeah, there's There's um moments where you're like
This is a vampire movie, right? I didn't just rent a porno, did I? And the answer is yes.
So both questions.
Yes and yes.
All right. Mark, what is your number nine?
I hope that this doesn't sever our friendship because I know.
Here we go.
What fans what a big fan you are of Mary Kate and Ashley Olson.
But I picked Twins of Evil from nineteen seventy one.
Yeah.
Made before they were born,
Made before they were born. Um, so it's a lot of dead space in the film because they weren't there. But yeah, you know, vampires you can't can't capture them on film anyway, so it just adds to the mythos. Um
No.
No. Um it's hammer.
Hammer time. Um I love it so much.
Just because you actually get the two real twins
Yeah.
Yeah.
What they was it the October nineteen seventy they did Playboy and that's kinda how they were discovered. Um But it's just...
Uh it's It's...
I I love twin stuff. It's like the parent trap with fangs. Um except you get one good one and one bad one. And it's just the way they play off of each other I think is really fun.
People may claim they're not the best actresses. I don't know if I'd say that, if I'd go that far. But it's I see, I love Hammer for like the costumes and the setting and the vibe.
And I just think
Give me one vampire, that's great. Give me a twins. Oh, I'm there. And so that's why I went with that one.
That's twice as great.
Twice as great. And actually let me see.
Oh no, I was just gonna say before we started recording I was talking about how there's not a lot of hammer In my list the Just because There's no You know, there's the fifties stuff and the sixties stuff.
And then I get really mixed up with literally all their vampire pictures.
The the Karnstein Stuff like there's a lot of I just don't rem I don't I don't wanna
Lie and be like, this is one of my favorites. I don't remember it.
No, see, and that's our age difference, Richards, because these were on TV constantly. Yeah. On repeat. So I like could act them out for you. If you gave me two well, no, just the same wig, but two of them, I could be the twins for you.
We'll do that split screen thing that that one uh That one uh Jess Franco movie where he he got that
special digital camera that's split it in two. We'll just have two marks. Oh
Oh, it would be better. It'd be yeah, I would be the w the doublement twins. That would be amazing too.
Um but yeah, oh Mary was it Mary and uh Madelina, I believe, are the Collinson girls. So I want to give them credit. Oh and also it's got Peter Cushing, so you can't go wrong with
I'm gonna bump those.
Grandmoth Tarkin. Yeah, you can't
Yeah, th these are good movies. I just I just For some reason I I think Early in my getting into horror phase in the early two thousands I burned through all of the hammer stuff and then just it all Is this big?
uh British mass, kinda like uh I come.
Bag of crisps.
Crisps.
I don't know what I don't know. Something British.
Royal Stilton. There you go.
There you go. So Richard, what's your number nine? Uh
Uh speaking of the England place Um it is House of Dark Shadows nineteen seventy.
Uh directed by Dan Curtis, uh written by Sam Hall and Gordon Russell.
Oh my gosh, yes, so I I've never seen a single episode of Dark Shadow.
Um I kind of am intimidated by the seventeen hundred episodes or however long it was on.
Um and I know you don't have to watch every episode. You could just you know, jump in and watch the episodes you want, but I just also don't want to buy that box set.
Ha ha.
Maybe they're on a streaming service. I don't know.
Uh but Brad was talking up um House of Dark Shadows.
Yeah.
I think he got me this.
uh Blu ray. It was one of my very first Blu rays, like Honestly, this was like I had Halloween, John Carpenter's Halloween, and then this.
Yes.
And that was like my Blu-ray collection for like a brief moment there. That's amazing
That's amazing.
Uh but yeah, this is this is a shortened version of the Barnabas story.
Um where the is the you know the the doctor's studying him and all that stuff and he's trying to like help the family be successful and get their shit together.
And uh I really love this. The Vibe is perfect.
Much like my other choice, vampires, the vibe is just so strong with it.
The the Euro horror.
Or in this case the british horror stuff is just Perfect.
And uh yeah, yeah, I I love this movie.
This movie.
Oh, that's amazing. Now Barnabas Collins wasn't from the get go in the series.
Right. He didn't start till like Many episodes in.
Right, right, right, right, yeah. So y if you wanted to, you could just skip all the other of those episodes or just go right to the Barnabas Collins and start with that.
with that. Yeah, I'm sure I'm sure there's something there. I mean, people love that show, so I'm not you know
Oh it's yeah, it's very fun for what it is.
Yeah. It's just mind boggling. If if you've never been
A person who watches soaps. Like you don't Like if you're not a p the type of person to watch the same soap opera for like twelve years.
It's shocking when you find out.
How many episodes like To get the gig on that show.
And be a recurring character.
And you don't do like seven hundred episodes, you're like a loser.
Oh right, yeah.
world and you have to get into like the thousands of episodes and shit to be like a really popular character.
And that one became such a cultural
Uh people didn't see it coming. Then all of a sudden like kids were rushing home from school and like moms were watching it. Like it w it like crossed generations, like the fandom for this thing.
It's too cool.
Ja. Now did you ever see just real quick the Night of the Dark Shadows film?
Yes, I also like that quite a bit. I like that'cause it's just different.
And Kate Jackson's in it.
Oh yeah, she's great.
Yeah, I love her.
I gotta re watch that.
Oh yeah. Uh
Um what's what's what's your what's your number eight, Mr. Mr
Now I'm gonna say this slowly because it's an anagram.
Mm it's
It's Alucarda.
Ah, Alocarda backwards it's Uh Drack Laka Laka.
Now I'm just gonna scream the rest of the review because it's a very loud movie with lots of screaming and I want to prepare people.
Make sure you praise Satan at least twenty five times.
A lot, a lot, yeah. No, it's uh is it uh Juan, oh my gosh, Juan Lopez.
Μακταζομα. Μακταζομα.
I love it.
As I did these, Richard
Ha ha.
And it shouldn't shock me. I realize that I'm very much drawn to female centric things.
And Alukarda is very much a female centric film.
Oh, one thousand percent, yeah.
Yeah, it you you you get the orphanage going on and you get The nuns, but they look like they're wrapped in bandages and they might be dead.
Uh they're like bloody looking. It's just Style.
Kinda like style over substance in like the best possible way.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
I I love it. I love it so much. I now this is a film I'm I would die to get like a Blu-ray. I mean a uh 4K and to upgrade for my Blu-ray. I want to see this as pristine as I possibly can because I love this film so much.
much it's wonderful. The um
It's in my uh runners up. I I I love this movie. It's so good.
Oh nice, nice. Yep, so that's mine. And I think
I think Maybe I'm not alone here, but that was my first um Manda Macabro release it all.
That was like the first one I was like, what is this movie? Get in a cart now.
I think so too for me. I think it was one of the earlier ones at least. Yeah, because it was just DVD. I don't think it ever came out of blue.
It's not that D V D, man.
Yeah. So it's got like a Was it teen Tino?
Tino Romero?
is the the Alucarda and then Susanna Camini is the uh Justine character.
Which I just
I love it. I love it. If we have any
Dare I say lesbian horror fans and you haven't seen this, I think you need to. I think you'll appreciate
Who who also loves Satan?
Well, I just... I said lesbian.
Oh, sorry.
[Silence]
That was one of the first movies I remember watching.
where they were praising Satan so much that I was like looking over my shoulder like Is this okay to watch?
I'm not
I'm not a religious person, but it was
This was like my first super satanic horror movie in my collection. I felt kinda
crazy. Like, oh wow, I'm really off the frickin' I'm on the left hand path now.
I'm like, this is the facts of life episode I've been waiting for all my life. Mm-hmm.
Ja.
Yeah. It's when uh when they they notice that Tootie's wheels on her her uh Her skates are actually pentagrams, yeah.
Um, Joe, have you seen my crucifix?
What happened to my pet race?
[Silence]
All right, Richard. So what is your number eight?
My number eight is Scream, Blackula. Scream.
Okay. Uh so this is uh directed by Bob Keljan.
Is
Amazing. Uh this was a very recent watch, a first time watch for me.
I don't know if it was this year or last year, but Man O Man I was doing myself r um a disservice
'Cause uh I liked Black Hill okay. I was like, yeah, I didn't Grab me, but uh man oh man, the sequel is great.
Uh the story is like Black Yellow's back.
And uh someone summons him by accident or something like that and then
Who cares? It's great.
But it's uh written by Joan Torres.
Raymond Koenig and Maurice Jules.
And its stars of the incomparable.
uh William Marshall The double incomparable paner.
Yeah.
Mm. Don Mitchell. And the lady I really like in the movie is Lynn Moody. She's So cute.
Yeah. Yeah.
But yeah, if you if you haven't seen uh the Black Hill movies, please watch them and I think If you even halfway like the first one.
So the first one's it's good.
It's very much what you'd expect.
Of black exploitation Dracula.
And this one goes off on a tangent that is very pleasing.
Nice. I I
Wholeheartedly uh back what he said. I love that so much. Pam Greer's amazing. And I love that it's the king of cartoons from Pee-Wees Herman, but he has fangs.
That's just...
It's just my favorite thing in the world.
That's what you want.
That's what I want. That's all I want out of life.
Uh um what is your uh number seven?
So It's Dracula, said
Richard. Mm. But it's the Dracula.
Uh
Dan Curtis brought us from nineteen seventy three with Jack Pilance.
Oh yeah.
Oh yes, cool.
I love it so much because it's Jack Plant. Like And I don't mean this like he's got a very distinct look.
And you know, he's not Frank Langella and you know, he's not like a gorgeous man, but he's a very intense actor and I just love this iteration of Dracula. It's
It's
Like it's chef kissed to me. I love it so much.
Oh man.
I I it's so fun. I Have seen that once.
I totally forgot about even like including it in my runners up. I it's been so long.
But I was just watching um Alone in the dark with him,
Oh yeah. Donald Pleasance and and Martin Landau and I was just thinking about
Two things. I was thinking about his version of Dracula and I was thinking about his skin bracer commercials.
In the seventies. In the eighties,'cause my dad and I would joke about ah skin brace ah.
I'll drop a little skin bracer ad in here for you guys.
I just I love him.
I think I've done that before in this show, but I'll do it again. I don't give a fuck.
I don't need some fancy cologne to tell me I'm a man. I use skin bracer. It smells great. But it also cools and tones my skin. Confidence is very sexy.
Don't you think?
Thank you.
Skin bracer after shave.
Shave.
So and then what is yours, Richard?
Your number seven. My number seven is uh Salem's Lot from nineteen seventy nine, the old uh Th the mini series which was only A two parter, I think.
Uh directed by Toby Hooper, aka Tuber.
And uh this was written by Paul Monash.
Who uh he actually wrote uh V, the the mini series.
And he wrote one of those movies that I For some reason I haven't watched called The Friends of Eddie Coyle, it's supposed to be really good.
It's uh that's a crime movie that I just
I've been accidentally avoiding it. I'm gonna get around to it, I promise.
Uh but it's got uh the who I would call the king of the seventies haircuts, David Sol.
Um his haircut is so perfect in that movie. It's kind of something to uh hold up and and show other civilizations what we could what we could accomplish.
Uh James Mason's amazing in it, of course.
And we've got Lance Kerwin, uh Bonnie Bedelia.
And um oh my god, I forgot to write down The vampire, mister
See to me there's only this movie is only really about one person and and you've not come to that person yet.
Oh, we've the kid, right?
No, no, no, no. It's Jeffrey Lewis.
So there's Ernest Ford9 and Dan Hagrid.
Yeah.
He's like the trifecta of Men mark find sexy.
Dude, I we have to find a way to mention Ernest Borgnine every friggin' episode. This is hilarious.
Well and and he's the one who brought us Juliet Lewis. That's her father.
Wow, wow.
[Silence]
Oh yeah. She's my favorite white trash actress ever. I love her.
I love him. Fred Willard's in this too. He's amazing.
Red Wheeler.
Um I'm going through like literally every person I'm gonna feel so dumb'cause I forgot to write.
James Mason. James Mason.
He's not the vampire. He's the vampire's assistant.
Oh that's right.
Reggie Nalder.
Oh good, good, good, good, good, good call. Fuck you.
Fuck you, I M D V I might.
No, there it is. There it is. It's it's right in front of my face. I literally is looking right at it. Yes. But yes, Reggie Nalder plays Mr. Barlow, the vampire, and his look is Totally iconic and amazing.
All you need to know about the movie is the cast is amazing and Um small New England town.
that looks like California because it is, I guess.
gets invaded by a vampire who takes over And uh it's it's just Scary as hell.
Um, scared me to death as a kid.
Oh yes.
And uh still gets me to this day.
It just has so many great scenes in it that Just uh.
There was something magic happening and I'm glad it did.
Love it.
Did you say it was Stephen King? Did we say this? I
Think I forgot. Oh.
Oh okay.
Based on Stephen King, one of his best novels, easily.
Ja, ja, ja.
Uh
What is your number six, you magical man?
So number six, I had to go with Dracula A. D. Nineteen seventy two from nineteen seventy two.
It's like Scooby Doo.
In a hammer film? Not so much that there's a mystery, but just how groovy everything is. Um
It it's I I love it so much. It's got Christopher Lee as your vampire.
And then it's got uh Carolyn Monroe.
Who you could tell it's like they didn't quite know what they had with her because she's not like a main character, but she really makes a
statement when she's in there. And then it's got um
Oh, what is her name? Um
Stephanie Beacham. Uh Stephanie Beacham. I love Stephanie Beacham.
It's great.
And it's also got an Alucard character in it. And it's just amazing. And it it ties like Satanism to Dracula, which is very cool in my book. And it's just so groovy. Um it's It's
Hammer, but it's like hammer not period costume hammer. It's like hammer swinging
Swinging seventies, swinging yeah, it's wonderful. It's amazing.
It's on my uh runner's up.
Oh is it? Okay. There you go. Yep.
Love that movie.
Yeah, I love it so much. Yeah.
Nice. And so you're number six, Richard.
Uh well uh Bob Keljan is back um with uh my number six, which is Count Yorga vampire.
Ooh, love it.
Nineteen seventy.
uh starring good old uh Robert Corey and Roger Perry.
Uh this is uh a vampire. He's a very Uh again.
The seventies swingin'.
Uh kind of vampire. He's he's uh Rubber quarry is so cool.
Um, he he just rolls up into a California and is like By the way, You're all my frickin' spawn of Spawn of Vampiric L now.
And it's very um atmospheric at times. Ver has a couple of good scares in it.
Um, some shocking moments that actually still like get me And uh The one dude's just trying to get his wife away from frickin' Count Yorga.
Wonderful. I love it. And now I like the second one too. I also
I also enjoy the sequel. I also enjoy the sequel. I don't know if I enjoy the sequel as much as this one.
But the sequel has a lot going for it.
It and again, it's just so groovy.
Yep. Yeah, man.
I I I I love it for that.
It's just Ja, jetzt...
Just pair it with Scream Black you'll scream.
Yeah.
Yeah. nineteen seventy two.
Do it.
Yes, it's wonderful. It's so wonderful.
Yeah.
Expert in Halloween, I'd like to give you mamas a bit of motherly advice.
Fix or treat.
McDonald's Halloween gift.
Halloween gift certificates.
It's just hot me.
From November first to the first
to the thirtieth. Each one is good.
Good for a regular size?
And participating McDonald's.
Children like them so much.
Thank you so much.
They'll even come to my house this year.
So my number We are at five.
Yes, sir.
So my number five is I'm going with hammer again, forgive me, I'm going to the vampire circus.
Oh yeah, nice.
Because any movie that can can tie in the plague with child uh child disappearances is a number one in my book.
Okay, that's just smart.
Yeah, it's just it's It's Such a weird
Yeah.
Like out of the three, to me, it's the strangest of the hammer hor vampire movies that I picked. It's just got a really weird
aesthetic to it. Yeah. Um the character's a little bit strange.
Uh but I love it. I love it so and I think that's why because it's just so it's just It's almost dreamlike because it's just so strange.
Oh yeah. I agree.
That one made a big impression on me as a kid. That was like Oh yeah. That was I think the first Hammer movie I ever saw as a kid.
Oh really? Oh okay, but that's a good way to start. Yeah, no, I really like Vampire Circus qu quite a bit.
Quite a bit.
And I swear to God that's my uh no, I swear to Satan that that's my last hammer vampire flick on my list. I promise.
We will see.
Yeah. See if you let down the Dark Lord.
Right, right. So that would be turn it over to you. What's your number five?
Now my number five, I affectionately call it uh Disco Dracula, even though it's not an actual disco movie at all.
It's the Franklangella version of Dracula from nineteen seventy nine.
although I feel justified in calling it Disco Dracula because John Badham Who directed it and directed Saturday Night Fever?
Okay. What?
Whoa.
I mean obviously love at first bite is the real
Real.
disco Dracula movie, but I won't say much more about that.
Um but yes, this was uh written by W. D. Richter.
who's a very famous uh screenwriter, did um Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the seventy eight version.
Uh big trouble in little China, Bakuru Bonsai, to name a few.
Um also co written by Hamilton Dean and John Baldurman.
Baldurston.
But yeah, this is uh Frank Langella, Lawrence Olivier, Donald Pleasance.
And it is a wonderful retelling of The Dracula movie.
In movie form And uh it's Pay as much attention to it.
Until they release the blue ray.
That had not messed with color.
Yeah.
So the director wanted it to be Dark grey.
And and have the colors desaturated so it would look
Yeah, you know.
Yeah. Universal monsters.
And I don't know if that was a psychological thing or if I was just fooling myself.
But when I finally saw the unmessed with just bright, colorful version, I was like Holy shit.
This is awesome.
Yeah, it's amazing.
I love it. Yeah, I'm beautiful.
It's one of those movies that I I swear I saw it when I was younger
on TV, but it just didn't stick with me. It wasn't until I was an adult that I really just really appreciated it. And I know I'm uh My pal Brad is a big fan of it as well.
Nice, nice, nice.
Yeah, what's your...
What's your fourth number four?
So my fourth number four is Lamora, a child's tale of the supernatural from nineteen seventy three.
Oh yeah.
So you've seen it.
Oh yeah. Very interesting movie.
That makes me happy because I feel like no one knows this film and everyone should be talking about it.
Simon's a big fan, yeah.
Yeah, I love this movie. Um, Richard uh Blackburn directed it and the um
Lamora was played by Leslie Ta tapin? Tapin. Um but yeah, it's
It is like a nightmare. It's just it's so strange. Nothing is really explained.
Um and that's not a bad thing.
Um I just
Talk about a movie full of atmosphere and vibes. It's this film.
And I d I wish it would get like a m a major release on like some boutique label because I think once people discovered it, that's all you would hear people talk about because it's so
Yeah.
different. It's such a different spin on the whole vampirism.
tail. I love it so much. I love it so so much.
It's like super eclectic too. It's just like
I've I've never seen anything quite like it. It's the
No.
Oh the combination of the European feel with the gel lighting and the super, super saturated colors.
And the southern thing, the southern gothic thing.
Yeah, no, it's amazing.
Wild. Love it.
Nice.
I'm glad you saw it. That makes me feel We're proud.
Yes, and like I said, Simon loves that one.
Uh my my number farth.
Is uh Daughters of Darkness, nineteen seventy one.
Which uh I recently
Bye.
But Because again the The disc was disc rotted.
Uh
And thankfully there's been multiple editions of this one, so it's actually really cheap to replace.
And I finally got the Blu ray that's been out for a while.
From uh Blue Underground, or as I call it Blunderground.
Ha ha ha.
Uh this is director Harry Kumel.
Um it's written by Pierre Droute.
Or a drought.
Uh
Uh, Gene Ferry, uh who r actually wrote M uh Malpertius, which is a movie that's been Just outside of my reach for a very long time.
Um with uh Orson Wells
I don't know who else is in it. It's a very strange looking movie.
Uh but this is Delphine uh C Rig being like probably the most fabulous.
Female vampire in our list, possibly.
It's her mirror dress that uh Just pushes her up over the
Yeah.
Over the top there.
Uh, yeah.
I can't see you in your own outfit.
Uh John Carlin, who actually I forgot to mention, he's also in uh House of Dark Shadows.
Uh, John Carlin plays the biggest shithead husband ever.
Uh, married to Danielle We Met in the movie.
And Andrea Rao playing the most cutest vampire vixen ever.
Uh so Story is newly weds.
Trouble is already on the horizon because he's got some issues.
Uh, but they stay at a hotel in the middle of off season.
And uh Delphine Sea Rig and her vampire uh assistant.
show up to vamp about and be fabulous and drink uh cocktails that look like uh selsin blue.
It's Renee Feld. Renee Field.
Yeah.
Oh, Renee Tales.
But uh man, it's such a gorgeous movie. It's very artsy.
But never never goes too far. W like it's not Frustratingly artsy.
Yeah, it's not pretentious.
Yeah, it just feels like an art film.
Yeah. But the vibe is perfect.
The uh ending is fucking kinda hilarious.
Yeah, you won't see the ending coming. The ending's amazing.
I I think the whole movie is is I think there's a lot of tongue in cheek in the movie. That it's yeah, it's uh it's quite good. It's
It's quite good.
Quite good.
Yeah, it's it's an amazing film.
Yeah. I think it would pair well uh with vampires, it's like a double feature.
That's what I used to do. Yeah.
And uh I I there's a third film I spaired with, but I don't wanna spoil anything, so we'll so save that for later.
Um, what's your number three?
Three. Well, it would be Daughters of Darkness from nineteen seventy one.
Yeah.
That we're almost twinning. I love it. Yep.
Yeah, yeah.
We are the twins of evil.
Did you have anything you wanted to add?
Doc Dog Trues of Dark Not?
No, no. It's just oh, the only thing I think I will say is And it's not seventies, but But I I would be willing to bet that Tony Scott.
Saw this.
before making the hunger because Catherine Deneur Sure.
Pretty much Countess Bathory in this film.
Good call, yeah. Yeah. With the with the Goth Rock plan.
plan. Yeah, no, I love it so much. It's such a good, good film. I'm so that's cool that you picked it too. Yeah, no, I love it. I love it so, so very much. Yeah. I if you if you haven't seen it, you're doing yourself a disservice. I'm I will say that right now.
There you go. I agree.
Yeah. All right, so you're three.
Uh my number threeness.
Just wanted to say that.
is uh the satanic rites of Dracula in nineteen seventy three.
Oh, rock on.
Good old uh Alan Gibson, who directed Dracula eighty nineteen seventy two, is here.
Uh with writer David Houghton.
He um worked on
Uh
Uh a bunch of uh sapphire and steel.
Which is a wonderful, wonderfully weird sci fi show that borders on Porter that I really love.
Uh we've got good old Christopher Lee.
Peter Cushing and frickin' Joanna Lumley in a vampire movie together.
Sweetie darling.
That's what that's what we want.
That's what we want.
Uh but yeah, uh this is just So fun.
Um There's a lot of um There's a lot of
great scenes. I can't I'm having trouble describing the plot other than You know, it's sort of like Dracula A D, nineteen seventy two again.
But with more like funk guitar going and stuff.
Ha ha ha.
I know.
I know he has a bunch of his uh His bride's in the basement and it's one of the most harrowing scenes ever.
Ever
Of just like How the hell do we get out of here?
That's so good.
It's pretty awesome.
Ja.
Rec highly recommend that. I think when Brad and I covered those'cause we did a an episode, a double feature of those two.
films and we were just kinda like Hammer people love these.
Right?
Like
Everyone else who loves Hammer, this is like their favorite ones.
Right. And we know it's not true, but we want it to be.
See, for me it is. Like these are like I love these. These are the ones I love. Yeah. These are the ones I love. Yeah.
Totally perfect. Perfect. Perfect. All right. Um, what is the second number two that you are going to talk about next?
twice. So you've already covered one uh but I'm gonna do the original, Blackula. I love this movie so
So much. Um William Crane directed this one, Willem.
And it's got William Marshall as the you know Not king of cartoons, but as Dracula.
And It has
a very stereotypically gay couple, an interracial gay couple. Oh yeah. But I love them so much. They're antique stealer. Of course they are. What else would they be? Um
That's the only job available to gay men.
Right, or hairdressers. Um but he would never go because there's mirrors everywhere. So of course it's gonna be anti-
Um no, I just I love it so much. But So When you when you use black exploitation, I think In people's minds It makes it seem like it's not smart.
But the cow
The count is it's they've given him an an incredible backstory. Like it's heartbreaking. And it's
It's just done so well. It's built upon the the vampire mythos, but it goes in a very uh
different direction than you think it w it would or should. And I just love everything about it. I do love Scream Blackula Scream.
But this one I think is cause the first one I ever saw out of the two.
Um no Pam Greer, but like I I love this movie so so much.
Much.
Yeah, if I could I would just watch Blackula on a loop.
Final loop.
just again and again and again, yeah.
I can't tell you how many times I've made four Walters did the black killer.
Oh he loves it. He loves it.
Ha ha ha.
That's not what the divorce papers say.
He said I don't have a choice with macula.
Yeah.
But yeah, so that's my number two. So Richard, do you have anything else to add to Blackula?
Just that it's great and I'm glad you picked it.
Yeah, I love it so much. So that would be what uh your number two. That would lead us to your number two.
Yes, the the second installment of my list.
To the end.
Is uh the devil's wedding night.
And I r I forgot to write down the date. I think it's seventy three.
From uh good old Joe D'Amato.
No, you gotta love it.
Um i yep, seventy three.
Uh this is a movie that I Adore so much Directed by Luigi Botzella.
Who has done some Pretty bad movies, but this is a good one.
Written by Ralph Zucker, Mark Damon and Ian Danbees because this is a American and Italian co production, I believe.
Mr Tooth mister Toothy himself, Mark Damon of the Giant Teeth Variety.
plays twins in this one.
Uh both evil and good.
Uh we got Rossel Baneri.
Who's amazing? It's just like one of the sexiest women In the universe, oh my god.
It's insane.
Uh.
Uh Esmerel Dabaros. And um Zero Pappas, so I just want to mention'cause Zero Papas is the coolest name that ever happened.
Uh but yeah, this is a movie where um A nobleman um travelling, discovers the castle of uh Rossalbineri's character and शेजाग
being resurrected. She's got her coven of vampire ladies that she's been stealing virgins from the village and Making them heard.
M her her
Uh her servants of the night And uh she's got a big old honk and ring that glows and gives her power and This is a vibe movie, so that Euro horror vibe I love so much.
And the first time I saw this was on I believe.
The Elvira's movie macabre DVD.
And the cool thing about the that shop factory ones, which I've know I've talked about this before on the show.
They had uncut versions of the movie but So they would take Her original segments from the show back in the eighties were and then splice it into a nicer copy of the movie.
than what played on TV. So not only did I get to see the movie in widescreen the first time, I also got to see it uncut.
But even more important than that.
The print.
That they had access to or Fucking destroyed.
This print was so scratchy and
that it is like it feels like you're watching like a snuff movie or something. It is so Damaged.
And there's pops and scratches and glitches and airs and
It's just so beautiful. Like I know you know the whole thing.
The whole
aesthetic, making something that was shot on digital video.
look like it was shot on film or make it look like VHS or whatever. That stuff is fine by me. I think that's fun.
Uh but this was just They did what they're best with what they could do, and they didn't restore a damn frame.
It's a great one. Have absolutely recommended.
I still haven't watched my uh
My frickin' code Red Blue Ray upgraded years ago. I've still never watched it.
watched it. I had that. I was gonna say don't get rid of it now because like code red stuff's like hard to find.
[Silence]
Yeah. Nice, nice.
All right. Did you have any runners up?
No, the only one, let's see. Uh no, because it I didn't want to put them both on my list, so scream black you look scream and we've talked about that.
So no.
So things we didn't discuss, uh obviously I had Dracula eighty nineteen seventy two.
And Avo Carta on my runners up.
I also have Some of these I just need to rewatch.
And one of those is fascination.
Um nineteen seventy nine, directed by Jean Roland.
Um, I have it and I've just been stupid and haven't rewatched it.
Back in the day There was a company, I don't know if they were Dutch
you
Or where they're from and They messaged me and were like, Hey, do you want to review these Jean Roland movies?
And I said, yes.
So they were sending me these um 'Cause I had an international D V D player at the time.
They're sending me these really cool special editions.
Of Uh Requim for Vampire, Rape of the Vampire, Shiver of the Vampires They sent me the demoniacs, they sent me all this stuff.
Stuff.
Wow.
Wow. It was great.
Um, and before they got to uh Fast Nation though, I think their company went out of business.
Uh
But I ended up having the old DVD of Fascination and I thought it was really good.
Upgraded the Blu-ray and I've just been naughty about rewatching it.
Also from 1979 on my my runner's up is Thirst.
The Australian vampire.
Which I was surprised didn't end up on your list. That that's a fun one, dude.
There's just very fun. Yeah.
So weird and silly and it's a little bit.
It c the only thing I could complain about it I don't know how do I not spoil this?
There's a scientific angle to it that I'm like Okay.
Other than that, I love thirst. Mm. Very highly recommended.
A movie Brad and I covered on the show Captain Chrono's Vampire Hunter from nineteen seventy four.
Carolyn Monroe.
Perfect, perfect fun and It's basically a spaghetti western with Vampires, it's so great.
And a hunchback, right?
And yeah, I believe so.
Believe so if I recall correctly. Yeah. Um, and then uh Countess Dracula from nineteen seventy one. Oh
Oh yeah. That.
That is a movie that I'm I haven't rewatched it since I was like ten.
But when I was ten, it was the most important film of my life.
Caught it on TV and it freaked me out.
The the story of Countess Bathory has always freaked me out and uh
This is just a a a fine, fine version. I'm Kicking myself for not watching I've had it.
I've had the DVD.
From the M GM Midnight movies?
Oh, yeah.
I've had that for like twenty years and I just haven't washed it because I'm a dope.
And then uh I think yeah, this is the last of my uh runners up. It's Count Dracula's great love with Paul Nashee as Dracula.
One of my the only thing weirder than Jack Pallance.
Paul Nashee.
I absolutely love that movie. Um
It just it's not one I reach for very often. I think it's great.
It's kind of like If you haven't seen his um His mummy movie?
That's really good.
Vengeance of the mummy, it might be called. Um both of those.
Yeah.
Back to back, that'd be a great double feature. Uh Paul Nash, you know, he loved his universal monsters.
So, we've got them all.
My very first Paul Nashee ever was a Blu-ray that I just blind bought. It was the werewolf versus the vampire woman. That was my very first Paul Nashee version ever.
That was my first. Really? I spent on a on a I um You know, like uh five horror movie compilation of like Whatever vampire movies.
And uh it was just this cheap Like VHS rip.
And I've loved it. I love that movie so much. That is almost on my list.
Yeah.
I went ahead and didn't include it just because of the werewolf.
This is mostly the way.
But
That is one of my favorite presentations of vampires, so thank you for bringing that up. That slow mo vampires who
Oh it's amazing.
Anywhere without their fog. I love them.
I love them.
Yeah.
Perfect.
Lagula is back.
Oh powerful.
Ha ha ha ha ha.
The Black Prince of Shadows rises from his grave to stalk the earth again in the all-new motion picture Chilla scream, blackula, scream, Blackula returns, quenching his thirst for blood in a death trap for his enemies.
Blacula more horrifying than Dracula screaming for revenge against a voodoo cult of evil.
C, Scream, Blackula Scream, all new, rated PG, starring William Marshall, Don Mitchell, and Pam Greer, the sensuous godmother of coffee.
You were terrified at Blackula.
Now the Prince of Shadows returns in Scream, Lakula, Scream!
We were talking earlier and I said there was one but we'll talk about later.
Oh.
I don't really feel like it's a vampire film, so that's why I didn't include it, but let's scare Jessica to death.
Yes. Yes.
I in my mind it's not a true vampire film, so I didn't include it, but that would like totally change my whole list whatsoever if I had to include that.
That's how I feel.
Love it so much.
Like true, yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know. I just can't pull the trigger on it being a Vampire film.
And stay tuned for an upcoming episode. Mark and I will be discussing That very filmed.
Ja. Let's scare Sarah Jessica Parker to death.
Sarah Jessica Apocalypse.
To death.
Ha ha ha.
All right.
All right, well what is your your absolute numero uno, seventy ten?
Well this is gonna be anticlimactic now, but it is there's no question about it at Salem's lot. Like it's Salem's lot.
Yeah.
I the thing terrified me'cause it wa originally it was like two parts on T V.
Ja.
Can we do spoilers, I guess?
Yeah, I'd say that's probably the one everybody's seen. So Okay.
So Okay. So like the little boy that's dead outside the window trying to get him to let him in. Yeah. And then the aforementioned um Jeffrey Lewis when he's like been turned but he's in the rocking chair and his eyes are glowing.
Oh my god.
And then and then the vampire looks like Nosferatu. I mean, he looks like Noswaratu. It's it's amazing.
I there's so much about this movie I love and Toby Hooper, oh my god, I wanna hug him.
I love his films.
To me, out of all of these, that's the one that like It's it scares me.
It it's got the vampires. It just is like nightmare inducing still.
I I love everything about it. I love it so so much. So so much. So that's my number one.
Well you know who steals the whole movie is Julie Cobb.
As the secret as the horny secretary lady.
He is so
sexy in that movie. She puts on that frickin' seventies roller skating outfit to like wait for him.
And I'm like
I don't even care if the rest of the movie happens. Can we just stay here?
Yeah. I actually wear that when I ride the bus over here now.
And I got pictures.
Bye.
Walt sent him over.
Right, right.
Right.
Hey, look what's happening here!
This is why I want the divorce. This is dra a blacula.
Yeah.
I think black yellow and that outfit are what's keeping it going, right? Yeah, I think so.
Yeah, I think so too. You gotta know how to play it.
Yeah.
Nice!
Yes.
Oh boy.
So I am so curious what your number one is.
Is. Uh my number one, I decided to go outside of the seventies and it's uh it's Morbius, the recent Morbius movie.
Ha ha ha.
It's Morbin time.
Oh my god.
No, I'm kidding. I've never seen that. I am I am a a little
I'm scared of my own curiosity of that movie. I wanna watch it.
Oh uh no. It's okay because Morbius was a seventies character in the comics.
Right, it counts, totally.
Uh uh.
Yeah.
No, I'm just kidding, it's Twilight movies.
Movies. Okay, I am so pissed because you said we could not include those.
No. It's Vampiros Lesbos.
From uh nineteen seventy one, I believe. Let me make sure.
Uh it is my first Jess Franco movie.
Ninety seven.
And it just it it hit me at the perfect time where I'd gotten a hold of all of the frickin' Italian stuff I could find at the time.
And I'd gotten all the like Paul Nashee I could find at the time and like I was really branching out into Spanish horror more.
Beyond like tombs of the blind dead and stuff.
Mm. Vampiros Lesbos from Jess Franco And it just hit at the perfect moment.
It's Absolutely wonderful.
It is written by Jess Franco and uh Jaime.
Shiravi?
Uh star is the incomparable. I love the word incomparable.
The Inimitable. Uh Soledad, Miranda, Dennis Price, Uh Paul Mueller, one of the sexiest men who ever lived.
And uh Eva Stromberg. Sorry, I was laughing at my Paul Mueller joke.
Uh Paul Mueller, um The fact that his his Stepdaughter is in love with him and Eugenie Dasad is my favorite thing ever,'cause like it's Soledad Miranda.
and him having a sex scene and I'm like, I'm gonna jump out the window.
That is it's bad enough this is incest coded. I'm also gonna just be Grossed out here by this guy.
He was also the uh The the she loved him for his brain.
In uh Lady Frankenstein.
Right. Oh my gosh.
I just wanted to take his brain and put it in hot stud's body. Man, that's fucking awesome.
Oh anyway, uh Soldad Miranda plays a vampire striptease artist who's going from place to place.
And uh she Manages to seduce a journalist played by Eva Stromberg.
And man it is It's not the most Jess Franco movie ever because There's no Vagina.
On on camera for thirty minutes straight in the movie.
With me.
It's it's it's it's it's a sexy vampire movie, but it's very uh tame.
So tame by Jez Franco's standards.
standards.
Uh but it is it is just sun baked as every good vampire should be.
Vampire film should be And uh I think it's windy and like
It f oh god, it feels so European. It's like the most European thing that's ever happened.
Uh Jess Franco has a a
I wouldn't call it a cameo, he's a character in the movie. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Um he's'cause he's quite an important character in the movie too. It's it's awesome.
Yeah. If y'all are
Trying to find a way in with Jess Franco. I think it's a perfect starting point. That was a perfect starting point for me.
Um I would go backwards and then forwards with his uh This mamography'cause like When you get to the by the time you get to the mid seventies, you're watching very different films than you did.
In the early seventies. Um
Ha ha ha.
And that that's uh one of those things I loved about the uh the Stephen Thrower books,'cause Stephen Thrower did a two volume set about Jess Franco movies and Even this His his porno period, which was not my favorite period of any director, is uh it's really fascinating story.
Story.
of uh just Franco wheeling and dealing and sometimes ripping off producers and being sketchy and then turning in three movies when he's only supposed to make one and just all all kinds of shenanigans and stealing Lena Romay from her husband who was actually Porn star in a movie.
Yeah. Yeah.
He's not a little gremlin like Jess Franco, so how he stole her from him, I don't have a clue.
But it's it's uh it's magic. Just Franco and Lena Romeo were the most fascinating couple ever.
That's an amazing pick.
Thank you.
Ha ha ha.
Well, I'm proud of you too. Your list was freaking awesome.
Awesome.
Richard, I really do feel like we have given people Films that they know.
Yeah. And films that they don't know, but will be glad that they do when they've seen them.
It'll be interesting when we get to d a different decade, like if we do Um savor.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Our favorite vampire films from the nineteen eighties. I mean, that was my whole list was eighties stuff.
And that's what I was like, wait a minute.
Mine was pretty much
Pretty much eighties and seventies. It really was. It was almost half and half. Yeah. Yeah. Nice.
Nice.
So I'm excited. Yeah. Yeah, I ha I will always have fun with you. So thank you for allowing me to do this with you.

The fangs are implied. That's right.
That's right. Yeah. Thanks for the memories.
