Shalom and welcome, dear friends. Today, we explore a nugget of wisdom from the Torah, specifically from the book of Leviticus, Vayikra 19:18, which says "You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord."
In our fast-paced lives, it's easy to hold grudges, nurse grievances and harbor resentment. But the Torah instructs us differently. It urges us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, to foster unity, understanding and compassion. This isn't just about our physical neighbors, but extends to everyone we encounter.
But why does the Torah add "I am the Lord" at the end of this commandment? To remind us that He, the Almighty, loves us all equally. He sees our hearts, our intentions, our struggles. By loving our neighbors as ourselves, we not only create harmony amongst our fellow humans, but we also emulate the boundless love of our Creator.
So, as we go about our day, let's remember this divine commandment. Let's put aside our differences, our grudges, our resentments, and replace them with love, understanding and compassion. Let's strive to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, and in doing so, become a little more like the Divine.
