Your Soul Called

🎙 Episode 11: Why Nothing Ever Feels Like Enough 😞

What if the love, support, and acknowledgment you've been searching for your whole life... was never meant to come from someone else?

In this episode, I share my own journey of waiting for my parents' approval, the realization that changed everything, and how taking my power back transformed the way I see healing.

✨ Why we spend so much of our lives craving validation.
✨ The shift that helped me stop waiting for others to fill what felt missing.
✨ How to become the safe place you've been searching for all along.

🤍 This Week's Soul Practice:
The next time someone lets you down, pause and ask yourself:
"What am I hoping they'll give me right now?"
Then give yourself just 1% of that—whether it's love, support, grace, reassurance, or acknowledgment. It might feel small, but it has the power to change everything.

🤍 If this episode resonated with you, I'd be so grateful if you'd leave a review, share it with someone you love, or take a screenshot and tag me on Instagram so I can hear what spoke to you.

Nicole:

Welcome to Your Soul Called. A podcast for those feeling like there's something more. More alignment, more purpose, more peace, more connection, more joy. I'm Nicole your host. Each week we explore the invisible things that shape our lives, our intuition, our energy, our emotions and the lessons we came here to learn.

Nicole:

Through personal stories, meaningful conversations and practical tools my hope is that every episode helps you trust yourself a little bit more, love yourself a little deeper and remember something your soul has always known. So without further ado let's dive in! Hi everyone welcome to episode 11 today's episode is titled why nothing ever feels like Enough So I used to believe that there was one thing standing be standing between me and finally feeling enough I thought if my parents could just love me if they could just see me if they could just be proud of me if they could just acknowledge how hard I was trying then I'd finally feel whole lovable enough not just my parents but my family that was like really really important to me and I felt like they just didn't see me and I was craving that. Then one day I realized I've been waiting my entire life for these very specific people because when other people said it to me it was like in one ear not the other I needed it from my mom you know I needed it from my family my immediate family that's where I would believe it where I would get to feel it finally where I would get to feel whole lovable enough Right?

Nicole:

But I've been waiting my entire life for someone else to give me this feeling that was always mine to create. And that's what we're going to dive into in today's episode. This expectation that we have built, you know that society has created within us that you know a good parent is a certain way and so many of us have felt let down and I think it's time we take our power back So first let's let's uncover let's dig into a little bit what is a parent's role? We've been taught that a parent's role is to care for us, to love us, to encourage us, to support us, to see the best in us to help us grow to create a foundation where we're safe where we're loved where we're worthy where we feel like more than enough. At least that's what I thought.

Nicole:

And for years, you know, I was just under the assumption that good families had that. I mean, I saw parents like this on TV. I saw them in movies. I've met more than a few of them in real life, and I was always a little jealous of my friends who had the parents that were, like, so loving, so caring, so understanding, so, like, acknowledging of them. I I just didn't have that same experience.

Nicole:

My life felt different. And for a long time, I carried around this quiet, you know, nagging feeling that I'd been let down. And that's why I was all messed up. Right? It's my parents.

Nicole:

It was the way I grew up. And it that feeling only got stronger and more prevalent in my twenties and thirties. My mom never I mean, yeah. I honestly can't think of a time ever when she's told me that she's proud of me. She doesn't tell me she loves me.

Nicole:

You know? And I didn't I wasn't getting those words or acknowledgments ever. And so I spent most of my life thinking that if I achieved more, if I helped more, maybe if I was easier, if I was more successful, if I could only make her happy, then maybe she'd finally see me. And she struggled you know she struggled emotionally and somewhere along the way I became the adult in the relationship that happened early I can remember being like a little mini adult my whole life since I was five years old I've always felt like a little adult. I became the caretaker and honestly I was really good at it.

Nicole:

I knew how to make everyone else feel okay. I knew how to fix things. I knew how to take care of everyone else's feelings but I didn't know how to take care of my own and underneath all of it I deeply deeply wanted someone to take care of me to ask me how I was doing, to care for me, to acknowledge me. I didn't just want it. I was craving it so bad it hurt.

Nicole:

And my dad wasn't much different. Know, sometimes I wonder if he even loves me, and that's difficult to say out loud. It used to make me cry a lot. But maybe you've had something similar in your life, which is why I'm sharing it. So for a long time, I just felt I don't know.

Nicole:

Like, I wasn't good enough in their eyes. And maybe that wasn't the truth. I don't know. But I never felt it. And I never felt it because I never allowed any of those good, proud, special, good enough feelings in.

Nicole:

I didn't know how to let them in unless I had earned them, achieved them, proven something to get them. And the older I've gotten, you know, now I'm in my forties, and I realized, like, that is no way to live a life. They're never going to give me what I need. And I've been viewing it differently and not because what happened didn't matter, not because it didn't hurt, not because, you know, it wasn't difficult. Like, I've acknowledged all of that and cared for that part of me, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life waiting for someone else to become the person that I needed years ago.

Nicole:

I've started realizing something different. My parents are just humans. Humans who had babies. Humans who were trying to figure themselves out. Humans were that were carrying their own shit, that had their own wounds.

Nicole:

Humans that probably wanted love the same way that I wanted love. They wanted acknowledgement, wanted to feel enough just like I did. And maybe they can only give me what they had to give, what they knew how to give. Maybe they never learned how to give it to themselves. Maybe they never felt it for themselves, and so they didn't know how to give it to me.

Nicole:

I can't hold that against them. And then I had a thought that completely changed how I looked at all of this. What if it was never about getting our parents to become who we needed? What if it was always about learning how to become that person for ourselves? I know that probably goes against everything you've ever heard because we're taught as a society that our parents are supposed to give us these things safety, love, acknowledgement, care.

Nicole:

You know? And yes, of course, parents have a responsibility to love and care for their children to keep them safe but not every parent knows how. Some children grow up with parents who naturally teach them self worth, confidence, safety, unconditional love. Y'all know those people. I have those friends, and I'm so jealous.

Nicole:

I used to be so jealous of them. Like, oh, if only I had a mom like that. But it's okay because some kids don't get that. Some of us grew up believing, you know, some some kids grew up believing that they're enough just because someone showed them that they were, and others don't. But here's the thing one isn't better than the other.

Nicole:

Both children who may now be adults are a thousand million percent deserving of all of these things. But some of us spend decades searching for the feeling we never received just waiting for someone to give us permission to to allow those feelings in to feel enough to feel worthy of it we're just searching for this feeling of acknowledgment, support, of unconditional love, the feeling of being seen, the feeling of being enough. And here's the thing that I want you to hear today. If you've been craving these things, you've been craving them for a reason and it's not because something is wrong with you it's something else entirely It's because all of these things the support, the unconditional love, the being seen, the knowing that you're more than enough, the feeling incredibly special and perfect all of those things were always meant for you. How do I know this?

Nicole:

Well it's really really simple so just like a baby who's born a newborn is fully lovable they don't have to do anything they don't have to prove anything they don't have to you know not cry to be fully lovable They just are born that way. So are you. We, all of us, as humans, we are created from God, from source, and source is within us. It's a part of us. Source is inside of us.

Nicole:

We are a part of God. So if that's the case, if you can get behind that, that must mean we are fully deserving of all the things. We don't have to earn them. We are just born that way. Of course we are.

Nicole:

You were always meant to feel loved. You were always meant to feel safe. You are always meant to feel seen, to be seen, to know that you are more than enough. That is your birthright. You don't have to earn it.

Nicole:

You don't have to prove it. You don't have to become someone different first. You were born worthy. You were born lovable. You were born enough.

Nicole:

You just forgot. And maybe no one ever reminded you and that's okay. So let me remind you today. You exactly as you are, not a future version of you, not after you've healed, not when you've lost the weight, not when you've made more money, not when your business finally takes off, not when you've gotten out of the crappy relationship, not once you've figured it all out, and not once you've accomplished enough. You right now, in this moment, right now, you deserve love.

Nicole:

You deserve care, You deserve support. You deserve grace. You deserve acknowledgment. You deserve to feel deeply seen. So what does that actually look like?

Nicole:

It looks like this in real life the next time somebody hurts your feelings is rude or mean or you know uncool instead of waiting for them to apologize to make you feel better pause and ask yourself what am I hoping they'll give me right now? What do I need from them right now? What do I wish they would tell me right now? Is it acknowledgement? Is it understanding?

Nicole:

Is it reassurance? Is it love? Do you just wish they would be nicer to you? You know, acknowledge what you're going through? Love on you a little bit?

Nicole:

Okay. Great. Well, give that to yourself. Internally, say it in your head. Say it out loud.

Nicole:

Record a voice note, and then listen to it. Give it to yourself. Give yourself one minute of what you need. Can you try that? What about when money feels tight instead of beating yourself up?

Nicole:

Notice the fear, notice the worry, notice the stress that's making you feel pressure in your head and making it so that you wake up all night. Notice the part of you that's scared and support that part of you that's trying so hard. Can you care for yourself in the way you wish someone else would? Can you tell yourself all the things that you need to hear right now? What about when your parents don't support you?

Nicole:

When your mom is being not so nice? You know? When she's not giving you what you need. Can you become your own biggest supporter? Can you celebrate yourself?

Nicole:

Can you tell yourself I'm so proud of you you're such an amazing daughter you're doing such a kick ass job I am so impressed with you. I see how hard you're trying. I've got you. You've got this. You've got this, and I'm so proud of you.

Nicole:

Because the moment we stop waiting for other people to become the source of what we've always deserved, everything changes. We take our power back, we stop chasing, we stop proving, we stop waiting. We become the safe place that we have been searching for externally all along. It's always been inside of you and inside job something you can give to yourself and that's the work and that's why we're here. It's not to spend our life convincing other people to love us differently or more, but it's learning how to love ourselves so deeply that we no longer need it externally.

Nicole:

We no longer need someone else to fill the the empty bucket. That is the missing piece. The missing piece that I was searching for for so long waiting craving it from you know begging for it it was always inside of me and that's where your power lies it's always been inside of you you've had the power all along so homework I like giving you these little homeworks because I like to do them for myself. I think they're so incredibly powerful. They don't take much time.

Nicole:

It gives you something to focus on this week. So this week's homework. The next time someone lets you down, whether it's a parent, your partner, a friend, a coworker, take a minute and ask yourself, what do I wish they would give me right now? Maybe it's love, maybe it's support, maybe it's acknowledgement, maybe it's grace, maybe it's simply feeling seen then ask yourself how can I give myself just 1% of that right now it doesn't have to be perfect You don't have to spend ten minutes doing this? Just catch yourself in that moment looking for it outside of you and ask yourself how can I give this to myself right now?

Nicole:

That's it two steps. Notice it, acknowledge it, ask yourself how can I give this to myself right now? The awareness alone is the shift, that's the change, that's the acknowledgement your soul has been craving because every time you choose to give yourself what you've been waiting for someone else to give you, you remind yourself, you deepen the belief that your worth, your value, your more than enoughness has never been outside of you. It's been within you all along. It is your birthright, you are a thousand percent deserving, it it's who you are fully lovable, fully deserving, more than enough, always supported, always cared for, incredibly special perfection that's who you are get back to that you deserve it do it a little bit every day every time something comes up that you feel uncared for give yourself that care Alright guys that's what I got for you today I hope you found this helpful please leave me a comment and let me know if this stuff hits if you'd like to see more of it if there's anything else you'd like me to cover because I feel like this is the stuff that has changed my life the stuff I do every day the stuff that has made the biggest impact for me the stuff that has given me my power back Okay, have a great weekend.

Nicole:

I'll see you next week. Bye for now!
