Intro – Welcome into another edition of the Sumner County Sports Podcast. I am your host Zach Womble and joining me as always on the 1s and 2s, the man that makes me sound crispy behind the scenes, JP Plant. As always please like, subscribe and rate the podcast wherever you may be listening. You can follow me on Twitter @zachwomblemsp and Main Street Preps @mainstreetpreps. You can also find us on Facebook under the same tag, and you can follow our newspaper sites at the Gallatin News, Hendersonville Standard and the Portland Sun. I want to give a quick shoutout to the fans who tune in each and every week, we are up to 612 all-time downloads through 29 episodes (including 12 in Germany and 3 in Russia) and I just want to say thank you, I am very grateful for your support.

Before we get started this week I do have a plug for our Newspapers, the Gallatin News, Hendersonville Standard and the Portland Sun. This Thursday (Gallatin, Hendersonville) and next Tuesday (Portland) will feature our All-Sumner County girls basketball teams, and the following week we will put a bow on basketball with the All-Sumner County boys basketball team announcement, so make sure you are on the lookout for that this week.

So, what have I been up to since the end of basketball season? I did enjoy a tiny bit of R&R this past weekend celebrating Caroline’s 3rd birthday and birthday party, but that doesn’t mean I was MIA completely. In the two weeks since the last time you’ve heard from me I’ve covered Gallatin softball, Gallatin baseball, Portland-White House baseball and some soccer sprinkled in the mix.

First Up: Our Player of the Week – Maddie Floyd, Fr. Gallatin High School. Floyd tallied 12 RBI in last week’s 22-2 win over Hendersonville. She connected on a grad slam and two home runs, finished 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored.

I’m recording this show on Wednesday, and tonight I have plans of catching District 10-4A action between Gallatin and Beech. Gallatin won Tuesday night for its first district win of the season, so it will be interesting to see if the Green Wave can build on that win.

I mentioned earlier I covered White House-Portland baseball this week (Monday) seeing White House claim a 5-0 win over previously undefeated Portland behind a solid pitching performance of Caden Blackford (4IP, 8ks, 3H) and Zane Brown (3IP, 7ks, 0H). You can see that story and photo gallery online now at Main Street Preps dot com.

Tuesday night was a big night for the Gallatin softball team/field as they dedicated the field to decorated coach Kim Kendricks. Kendricks coached basketball, volleyball and softball at Gallatin High School. She is a 1973 graduate of the school and returned to the school to begin her coaching career in 1989 through 2008, then again from 2011-2015. Her 1999 team won the state basketball championship.

Other events I have on the calendar to cover this week include Station Camp-Beech softball, Hendersonville-CPA soccer, Portland-GB baseball, Portland-WH softball.

Outro: That will do it for this week’s edition of the Sumner County sports podcast, thank you so much for tuning in this week. As always, I’ll see you on the sidelines.
